The main theme of this song is escapism. She talks in an interview about how she thinks motorcycle people are the embodiment of freedom and she wishes she could just ride away and leave the world and all the problems behind. She wants to escape
The way The Recording Academy has slept on Lana del Rey’s discography and visuals is so pathetically disappointing. This woman has 7-8 studio albums already and maybe not with the biggest sales in comparison with other singers but the quality, the lyricism, the sound, visuals… Damn! This woman is such an underrated treasure, WE DONT DESERVE YOU LANA! 👑
Lana is my favorite artist of the 2010 generation. She has been my favorite since then because no one sounds like her vocally and her songwriting is just stunning. She’s a true poet.
I couldn't agree more. I have met her since 2012. Her music was my fire that never dies. She wasn't famous back then in my country. But now, I'm so jealous, everybody knows her. ಥ╭╮ಥ
@@kevincampos5864 You obviously have not heard her entire musical catalog. Obviously to claim a certain artist to be the greatest of all time is a opinion, but once you hear everything that I've heard and her diverse emotions vocally that sends shivering reality to a lonely life to someone who's lost the love of their life and kept carrying on.
Whaaaa ? :D Come on mate, you don't need to say nonsensical stuff like that to praise her singing, she doesn't have to be THE GREATEST IN HISTORY to be a wonderful singer, it's not a competition.
I always felt like this song was a metaphor for “just keep going”. When your mind is not at peace, you feel that conflict even more so when you’re stagnant. You shut down, and get lost in the battles with the different demons and traumas from your past. Most people go for walks, or go work out, to “let off some steam”, but this song just paints the picture of finding that release on the road. Maybe a car ride may do it for some, but the rush of the wind, the feeling of flying is incomparable. The various men in the video are also seeking the same release, an escape from whatever torments them. A chance to feel uninhibited, and not alone; be it anonymously with a lover, or in a crowd of others who create the safe-space for them to do so. Her melancholy and loneliness ultimately follow her with every man, every situation she found herself in, but these moments were a surge of electricity for her. Momentary, maybe, but always looking for more. In constant danger of finding more trouble. Risky, but thrilling. Crazy. The dichotomy of freedom and being tethered to the fight within us. For her, freedom is in those moments. On that bike. With those men. With those road dogs. In the open air, her issues gone with the wind. We all have our escapes, our releases. We all get tired of feeling fucking crazy. That’s why this song resonates. A reminder to just ride.
@@hanikanso9656 to be honest, I find both of those songs to be a completely different style to ride. I love them both for their own reasons, but imo, ride hits different. It's nostalgic, freeing, makes you yearn for exploration, raw, it just hits the spot. In a much different way to blue jeans and dark paradise
The beginning of the singing part of the video, when she arrives on stade, gives me the same amount of chills as the ending. First time I watched it, I didn't know LDR (yeah, Ride was my introduction...), and when I saw that, I was stunned.
We all know that Lana does not usually dramatize her videos just for acting, and less in this one, she really talks about what her life has been, so the video is 100% about her. She is truly one of the few artists who is usually a true box of secrets, and that makes her artwork unique and beautiful.
When I was still in active drug addiction, I was living from hotel to motel escorting to support my habit. This song resonated with me from very beginning to end. I have almost 3 years sober now but it's still one of my favorite songs and brings back a lot of memories.
There are a lot of autobiographical truths in the Ride video (albeit highly romanticized, which is probably Lana's greatest talent as a writer). However, I believe the biker scenario is meant to be more metaphorical than your friend interpreted it. Your interpretation nailed it on the head; Ride is about rejecting the mundane 9 to 5 lifestyle - sacrificing the financial, housing and various securities that come with 9 to 5s for total spiritual & artistic freedom. To "ride" means to explore, wander through life aimlessly but passionately, bask in the beauty of experience and freedom of possibility. Those who've submitted to 9 to 5s are parked - stable in life (a necessity for many) but missing out on the adventures of the "open road" as Lana would put it. I consider Ride to be of the top 3 greatest music videos of the 2010s. It was released when I was 17 and just beginning to enter the adult world, so it's message had a profound impact on the trajectory of my 20s and type of freedoms I value.
this is real, lana has talked about her past experiences and her road to fame pretty often, she is just a increbible poet for telling her story like this. is my fav video of all time
Lana helped me get through some really dark times. Ride makes me cry every time. I used to drive my car around at 2am crying over stupid shit. Thank you Lana ❤️
I’m a huge LDR fan, and this song has been and will always be my all time favorite LDR song. It means so much to me. I got “just ride” tattooed on my arm and I see it every day of my life to remind me to just ride it out through any struggles I go through. I still get chills every time I listen to this song. And this video is just incredible. Loved your reaction and can’t wait for more. ❤️🔥
To me she's singing about freedom, her being lost, not knowing what to do with her life and wishing she could just ride, and not have to go thru this society's obsession with success, having goals, but at the same time yes there is sadness in there. it seems that she has nowhere she can belong to, and so being part of a tribe with the bikers, makes her feel less lonely
Lana is perhaps my favorite female vocalist. she channels that classic vibe that makes her songs timeless. My mom heard one of them and got confused trying to remember where she heard it in the past. its the voice, its just magic.
Is it bad that I know every word of the monologue and outro without even trying? Lana fan for life!! And I have so many good remixes and megamixes of her that I've collected over the years to enjoy her music even more in a different way. Love from Dallas, TX.
Wait until you guys hear her newest album, the song Dealer is SUCH a trip!!! I cried when I listened to it, it’s just one of those songs that hits you and you don’t even know how
to me Ride is pretty much about being free, having the true freedom, you are so free that your desires cant even touch you... having nothing to lose, nothing to gain, no desire, no expectations.... just peace and being able to accept whatever life throws at you, the true freedom.
Constantly amazed at Lana's ability to arrange music in a way that makes her words come alive. And her creative voice is a well of endless possibilities.

Also just wanted to give you some information about Lana, She is an alternative artist but She has a decent fan following so some people may consider her a pop star but as you've heard Her music is very different than other pop music. She has not won any GRAMMYs yet which is very hard to believe. She has been nominated few times. maybe it is just my own daydreaming opinion about lana since video games, been thinking still, that she's my 2010-2019 music generation, call me crazy but the video games and the rest, i can't listen without not tearing my eyes out, is it much embarrassed publicly, it is just my natural tears toward her and her music, somehow, this is part of the reason why i must get up and move on with turbulence life, and her music, jesus, i do hope someday i can accidentally meet lana and simply hug her and thank her for simply everything, i am now 36, and live life with bipolar and i know step by step, i just ride on with my life, thank you so much for the beautiful reaction, and i did tear up for the final line of hers' saying, but im free.... and "YES!" for 3x i guess for the big guy, thank you
I love the same thing about music, how every song you listen to is unique to the individual listening to it. Even if we all have similar experiences, we each experienced that similar thing differently. Different angle, different combination of emotions, smells, sights that all combine to make it very unique from everyone else, and that is why music becomes so unique to each individual.
There is nostalgia in this video of an outlaw bikers life, in both aspects of the contributing forces and those in the lime light. It captures a perspective of that way of life and the addiction of freedom but also elaborates on freedom in general in other ways of life in your own perspective.
I recommend you a Spanish singer her name is Diana Navarro with the song "El perdón" she is a very versatile singer who sings different musical styles. Always transmitting what she sings and making us feel with that particular voice that she has with those incredible voice notes and melismas. Greetings from Spain
Years ago... I was homeless. I used to hang out with the 'bad guys' ... I had no home. No family... that goes against the nature of being human. The people I knew became my home.. I went along with them.. just for them. I rode along.. I just rode with them. I wasn't them and when my friends asked why I lived that way they had no idea what it's like to live on the edge... when all you have is the people you're with. Back then this song was the closest thing I ever related too...
This is a little off but I really connect with that "melancholy" mysteriousness that people point out about Lana. Like me, she's a Scorpio Rising & that's just our characteristic in the eyes of the beholder. We're quite shy, stoic, introverted, hold some pretty dark secrets, and we usually have transformed from a dark past. At the same time we'll put on a smile when surrounded by sweet people or if we're in a (rare) upbeat mood. Our souls are very deep, and can be very dark too. Another Scorpio rising singer that gives those vibes is Avril Lavigne.
Thanks so much for choosing RIDE, I suggested it on your Born to Die resction video! 😊👏 Imo it is her best single, but obviously others may not agree. I also love your reaction to it, I was spellbound by her voice most of all, her talent is breathtaking.😇💘 Personally I like that she chose men that weren't akin to make models for the video because confidence, masculine strength and passion can certainly make up for that for a young woman. Also she makes a reference to her father living a similar life and the men are all older so thr narrative makes sense. There is sorrow in this tale about ultimate freedom, your friend was right. She cannot stand the corporate box that puts food on the table, she desired to be a poet she said in the first monologue but that dream was never realised. It was for Lana I feel, she certainly is a poet , but not for the character depicted in the video. The freedom she craves really is pretty hard core though and there may be a sadness felt after the intimacy with several men in the back of her mind. I did wonder at one point, and I mean no offence to anyone , that she meant a totally different type of "ride". But I was getting carried away! 😃 She rides fast with the bikers, the wind whipping hair across her face as if to scold so she can AVOID introspection, she just wants to drink, have fun, be wild. ⏳🔥 Keep one step ahead of the melancholy thoughts that threaten to bring her and her world to collapse. It also interests me that she says she was in "the winter of her life "when she encounters the bikers as if she was in a very bleak place when she met them. This hedonistic lifestyle saved her from a banality that had become so toxic she couldn't live with it. I think this song is a bit special especially combined with the video 🌟and cannot understand why it failed to be Number one in every country! Despite her popularity I still believe she is under rated, she has so much soul, a sultry beautiful voice and is a wonderful writer and weaver of dreams. She takes the listener to another world.🌌🌠 I'm subscribing as I have seen your two Lana reactions and adored them both. Really enjoyed your reaction, Thankyou xx😊🌷
I love how this song represents Lana's love of freedom. She is a true Libertarian, and that's one of the reasons why I love her so much. She's so inspiring. :) The true spirit of Americana.
I watched every video reaction to Lana on your channel and I love the way you express yourself (and your guests) about the interpretation of what you're hearing. It's a really cool channel and now I'm subscriber
Lana and this song were introduced to me by my daughter. Some of what I hear in the song reflects my daughter. It’s beautiful and also haunting for me because of my daughter’s struggles.

hope you're okay now 💗
@@Safe214-u6r I am so much better now, thank you 😊
Its all a true story its so touching and so authentic shes one of the best writers of all time
This is a little off but I really connect with that "melancholy" mysteriousness that people point out about Lana.
What does the planets have to do with your personality? lol that's dumb
@@erikperhs_ imagine calling something you don't understand "dumb"
@@obey_forever_mae There's nothing to understand. They believe the planet decide their fate. That's dumb.
I loved this so much. Thanks guys. I have been a Lana fan since the beginning.
Thanks so much for choosing RIDE, I suggested it on your Born to Die resction video! 😊👏 Imo it is her best single, but obviously others may not agree. I also love your reaction to it, I was spellbound by her voice most of all, her talent is breathtaking.😇💘
Personally I like that she chose men that weren't akin to make models for the video because confidence, masculine strength and passion can certainly make up for that for a young woman.
She rides fast with the bikers, the wind whipping hair across her face as if to scold so she can AVOID introspection, she just wants to drink, have fun, be wild.
She takes the listener to another world.🌌🌠
I'm subscribing as I have seen your two Lana reactions and adored them both. Really enjoyed your reaction, Thankyou xx😊🌷
I love how this song represents Lana's love of freedom. She is a true Libertarian, and that's one of the reasons why I love her so much. She's so inspiring. :) The true spirit of Americana.
Harmony Korine films do this. Kind of a desperation, but love of some journey, never boring...
This is me to all my friends 😂♥️♥️
I LOVE Lana! You should also check out norwegian artists like Aurora, Astrid S and Girl in red 🌟

Ride's music video is so great, its like a short film 😍
Lana and this song were introduced to me by my daughter. Some of what I hear in the song reflects my daughter. It’s beautiful and also haunting for me because of my daughter’s struggles.
