    The very first thing that I thought of when I heard the lyric "In one year we've learned the turn of the mouth" was meeting my grandfather at the hospital after he had a stroke. At the time I thought it was just a health scare but I've actually got to realise the seriousness of the situation when I saw him. The left side of his body was paralysed due to complications of the stroke. To me, the fact that part of his body, but specially his mouth, couldn't move and that he could no longer speak and voice hist thoughts and feelings was just heartbreaking. I was already 15, but it was the first time in my life that I've ever been confronted with our inherent condition, as humans, of being susceptible to mortality and sickness. This song means so much to me in so many different ways, because putting such an universal but unique experience into words is such a hard task. Lana really has an incredible talent with the way she says things through music. I very much stand with you on your interpretation and I adore your videos. Thank you for the content 💚

    I love that you give respect to lyrics that has no metaphorical background behind it. Sometimes we just have to acknowledge that some things are just what it is and that there is no explanation is necessary to understand the whole point.

    I love how early in the song, she says, "But I can't say I'd run when things get hard..." but then she seems to backtrack herself in the bridge with, "I'm probably running away from the feelings..." It's like she was trying to convince herself she wasn't doing it but ended up like, "Yeah, okay... I probably AM running away," in a sense

    • @summersentiment
      @summersentiment  Год назад

      that's a great point! it seems like a bit of an internal conflict that she's aware of and perhaps she ended up "running away" to try to protect herself
      ty for point that out 😊

    This album is unique Lana. Personal in a way it's hard to analyze some unequivocal lyrics, like there's nothing a stranger could add to her experience. Usually Lana has brilliant metaphors, that she allows us to interpret our own ways, but I'm glad she found the courage to give us these masterpieces too. I really like how respectfully you treat her straight forward lyrics and don't try to speculate. Fingertips might be a hard song to analyze. Imo Candy Necklace and the title track would make great analysis videos with room for speculation!

    • @summersentiment

      i agree! i love that you said "there's nothing a stranger could add to her experience", i feel like with certain things that are so personal...they simply are what they are. it's unnecessary (and a bit of an overstep) to try to extrapolate out and figuratively view certain things
      fingertips has been highly requested, i'm trying to see if i can add anything of value to discuss about that song. it's so so beautiful! candy necklace and title track are on the list! thank you for your comment!! 😊 ✨

    "Just another folk song, but anyway" is one of the lines of the album that I found more interesting because I think she is breaking the 4th wall and refering to this song and it's so interesting because this lasts years lana has changed drastically the style of her albums, since Norman Fucking Rockwell, she is doing very minimalistic productions in contrast with the symphonies of instruments and details on the productions of her first albums, now she is often defending a song with just her voice and a piano melody. Part of the fandom has been saying that they don't like this new kind of folk production and they want the old lana back. So she is defenetly refering to that in some way in this lyric.

      i love what you mentioned about breaking the 4th wall. that's a great point and i agree!
      i also enjoy your take on how lana's music has evolved in the past few years. that could definitely be part of the context for that lyric. really interesting to think about, thank you for sharing 😊

    What does finally the ground was cold “they wouldn’t open” mean? I can’t figure out what she means by they wouldn’t open line. Someone please help!

    • @summersentiment
      @summersentiment  Год назад +5

      to elaborate a bit more on what i said in the video, for me i think about the loved ones being buried after they passed. the ground is "cold" meaning it hasn't been touched in awhile...time has passed.
      "they wouldn't open" i think of the literal caskets...they are not coming back. they are gone.
      more metaphorically i think of emotional distance between the passings and the protagonist's internal state. healing may begin now
