  • For this new album review, Lana Del Rey delivers a messy, vulnerable culmination that might just be her best album to date.
Best Songs: 'Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd’, ‘A&W’, ‘Kintsugi’, ‘Paris, Texas’, ‘Margaret’ ft. Bleachers
Worst Songs: ‘Peppers’ ft. Tommy Genesis

    Ocean Blvrd > NFR

Ocean Blvd is kinda messy, where the last three tracks feel like bonus tracks and the interludes are almost back to back instead of being spread out throughout the album. NFR has only one skip for me, Bartender. I don’t really care for the last three tracks or the interludes on Ocean Blvd, so NFR wins for me.

This and your Blue Banisters review have been impressively insightful. Lana continues to be truly fascinating if a little frustrating.
This album definitely has more of the elements that made NFR! work so well for me. However, it somehow feels messier and more inconsistent which is both to its benefit and to its detriment sometimes.
The FJM and Bleachers collabs are really something special though. Also, I will defend Peppers, it’s such a quirky bop that I kind of mess with.

Based. It's the most I enjoyed Lana's album since Born to Die (I like NFR tho, but I think new one is better than NFR)

I'm not gonna lie, i was genuinely shocked when i saw the description because i assumed you were gonna despise this. I've established myself as a hardcore Lana stan obvi (see also: my comment on fantano's review of blue bannisters) and this album has not changed that whatsoever. I too think it's a grand culmination of her entire career and personally I'm personally loving every single element of it. I'm really glad you've come around to at least partially understand her artistic appeal in the same way fans like myself do
Definitely her best album to date and yet another 10/10 from her (the other two for me are Ultraviolence and NFR)

I don’t think this is Lana’s best album, but in terms of aesthetic, subjects, and overall theme of this album is really unique and like nothing that we’ve ever seen from her. Candy Necklace, Fishtail, and A&W have chilling undertones, whereas The Grants, Sweet, and Fingertips have mature themes in them. Most artists just swear more and they call it “mature” but Lana actually talks about getting older, watching people close to her die and wondering if she’ll ever find true love. I still think NFR is better, because the album is more cohesive. But Ocean Blvd is a very close second.

      You forgot his NFR review.
Also he doesn't give scores in his reviews since last year, wants to focus more on his analysis and critiques rather than the scores placed on the reviews.
But if you are very curious on the scores... Wait for a few months then find his RYM, the scores will be then there.

Totally agree, magical moments with half a dozen good songs, but some very skippable ones. Bit too sweary and granular to up with the best female albums, such as "Lion and the Cobra".
