Lana Del Rey is NOT a conservative, but she’s also not a far-leftist. If you listen to her albums, she has zero interest in political correctness or feminism. I think this is about a woman's longing for the presence of a man, a true love. Her friends are great, there is nothing they couldn't do, except take away that empty space in her heart that wants love. That wants a good man. The diamond. The thing that takes away the pain... this song really captures a modern woman dilemma, the fact that they can have it all, but still have that part that wants to be a well loved woman in the arms of a strong man. Nice!
It's in a lot of her music about men. She doesn't ever aim at men badly she brings up our separate issues at times. iirc was it not born to die which was about how we can be both our worst enemies yet love each other? Been a whole since I listened to her music but I'm always blown away by her acoustics and vocals.. she's just incredible and one of the greatest artists to ever live imo.
Not exactly. The song is about how the man promised to give her a family and what she wanted, and she’s painted blue by him, as bruises. It’s mostly about how her sisters are there and support her, and are what she cares about.

the earlier stuff from Born to Die and Paradise was amazing. everything she has done since then has been a weak attempt to recreate that early success. but to me it just smacks of being contrived and doesnt have the catchy rhythms and melodies of the earlier songs.

I LOVE Lana del Rey! Her voice, appearance, and music videos have a retro look and feel to them. Her voice is so beautiful, it’s soft and buttery. This song feels nostalgic. I have an old photo of me as a little boy sitting on top of a red tractor on my grandpa’s farm, so I can totally relate to that.
It's so endearing to see Michael's misty eyes while lising to Lana. She knows how to convey that feeling of lost girlhood. I feel the nostalgia from my past. The gripping fear of the future on my heart and the longing for my girlfriends from my childhood. That time was so unique and wonderful! But now an entire generation of girls have to reckon with growing into a woman. In this fucked world that doesn't even know what a woman is means those those little girls we were in the past have to endure growth by trial and error. And most of us fall into error.
Is Lana really considered mainstream? She's more of an artist to me than a pop celebrity. Can't remember the last time I heard any of her music on the radio.
Oh her music is absolutely not on the radio. She does no live TV performances or interviews of any kind. But… she’s the 30th most streamed artist on Spotify currently. So she’s actually pretty mainstream oddly!
She's mainstream. But her music doesn't always fit pop. Summertime Sadness, Born to Die, West Coast, High on the Beach, Stargirl. Like everyone knows who she is even if most people don't listen to her new albums. If that makes sense.
Love your analysis on poetry. It reminds me of what G.K. Chesterton once said “Imagination does not breed insanity. Exactly what does breed insanity is reason. Poets do not go mad; but chess-players do. Poetry is sane because it floats easily in an infinite sea; reason seeks to cross the infinite sea, and to make it finite. The poet only desires exaltation and expansion, a world to stretch himself in. The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens…It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits.”
Yeah, yeah. Chesterton's problem was he got so caught up in the aesthetic symmetry of his arguments, he was too willing to swap concepts (like a jewel thief swapping a bag of sand for a diamond) in order to make them work. He makes reason the opposite of imagination, which is a parlor trick. He starts with a false premise and follows it to its logical conclusion. I think the word casuistry is applicable to GK.
A Lana x Michael Knowles crossover? I love this! I LOVE him!!! His way of commenting on the news and celebrities never has this intensity and negativity. He finds a way to critique it and keep it light and informative all at the same time. Some of the other Dailywire hosts are hard to watch cause they make me feel like everything is dark and bleak. Michael gives me HOPE!!!
@@Ian.MurrayTo some extent, you can't fixate on someone's political opinions constantly. Does it end with the artist only? Or have you pre screened their drum tech's or producer's opinions also?
Lana is my favourite singer ever. I can't even skip any song she's ever released, all of them are just amazing. I hope you'll react to more song of hers.
I hate the part where she says “my P***** tastes like Pepsi cola” a bit much for me😅😅😅😅I like every single song too my gooooooooosh her cover of summer wine? YESSSSSS
Lana Del Rey has a lot of range in her voice and she can hit deeper, more sultry tones too. I'd love it if she released an album of past classic songs like Peggy Lee's 'Fever', 'Why Don't You Do Right?', etc. as well as Lena Horne's 'Stormy Weather', etc. She could bring back a lot of those iconic 30's, 40's, and 50's torch songs with a new twist.
Michael, you need to start with Born To Die Paradise edition 💯🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Been listening to Lana for a long time now. She’s something else. Not like other artist today. She’s authentically her and her music holds a message we all can relate to one way or another.
PLEASE DO MORE LANA REACTIONS I am begging Michael this was so great. She has MANY thought provoking songs that i feel are better than 99% of pop music out there. Lana is saving the culture without being cringe.
Michael should listen to Stephen Sanchez next, I think he would appreciate the fact that a twenty year old is bringing soulful music inspired by Sinatra to main stream listeners!
Lana is the only singer I listen to , she has made me learn to see all the beautiful things in life and everything I want to work for ♡ love this reaction
LDR, my 16 year old daughters greatest obsession at this stage in her life, and I'm so thankful for that. As a God fearing lover of the Lord, I feel there's a lot worse things out there, LDR isn't vulgar, Shes so kind to her fans and stand for many good things in a world coming apart at the seams..
The problem with much of modern music is that it either glorifies a hedonistic lifestyle without mentioning the hole in a person's soul that sort of life creates (modern pop music) or it fails to examine why hedonism is so captivating in the first place (modern christian music). Lana (who is very likely not conservative by the way) is fantastic at capturing both the allure of the hedonism (giving the devil his due) and then brilliantly shining a light on the dark emptiness one feels after living a hedonistic life. She does this nearly perfectly in her most recent album which Knowles should definitely react to. She (and all good art) does the same thing good liturgy does, it understands all aspect of the human psyche, not just the good or bad. This is why Catholics start every Mass with the penitential rite (Lord have mercy). We acknowledge we're all hedonists in some capacity but we want more and we're striving to fill the hole with the good.
she was in love with a police officer from OK and they went their separate ways. According to the web search results, Lana Del Rey and Sean Larkin met on a dating app in 2021. They split their time between Los Angeles, where Del Rey lives, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he calls home. Del Rey even met his children, who Larkin admitted were "kind of blown away" by the relationship. They broke up in March 2020 due to their busy schedules. I have found myself in a similar situation with a man from Oklahoma, we also met on a dating app and he has kids from a previous relationship. I moved from LA to OKC to be with him but I need to return to LA soon. This song is so comforting due to the pure coincidence of the similarities. I grew up listening to Lana since high school so it's just heartwarming to be able to relate to this song so much still even now in my late twenties. Music connects us in the most beautiful ways.
lana del rey is my favorite artist, all of her music is so beautiful, I'm so glad you reacted to her, I love how you break down songs. I would reccomend her songs "how to disappear" "the grants" or "ultraviolence", if you plan on doing this again
Alot of people think lana is depressing I think her music is very relaxing and it is cozy to me If you like her music: Love , Lust for life, Fuck it I love you / The greatest, and this is what makes us girls are my favrities
I think some people don't understand her free and relaxed lyric writing here (she writes all her songs by herself mostly) because we are used to her "born to die" era where everything was pop and Hollywood and Americana related lyrics. She has been developing this recent work with personal references mostly (her sister, her friends, her dogs), that's why maybe you might be confused! But trust me, Lana's records and writing are wonderful.
Lmao she’s multifaceted like most people. She mentions Jesus and Marilyn Monroe in the same breath. Heroin and drugs and alcohol too. She’s an artist she’s not hyper focused on any one thing. Very nostalgic and melancholy. She’s my favorite.
I would describe Lana as a Classical Liberal more than anything. Idk, one of the cool things about Lana is she is not boxed into any one type of thing. She is a very multi-faceted artist.

Conservative was a very strange description, and I don’t think they’re referring to politics. I think they’re referring to style, but she certainly does not have a conservative style. She has a very on the edge style.
Lana is not conservative but she’s also not a leftist. She’s just a great music artist with a uniquely lovely voice. ❤ I’ve always loved her music and still do. 😊 On an added note, I do wish a lot of us would stop throwing the “conservative” label to anyone who just happens to not be interested in towing the leftist line. This is why we are having issues with the current red pill(which is not conservative whatsoever) as well as a few other micro factions. That said, I hope everyone is having a Blessed day. 💙🙏🏻
I’ve been following Lana for over a decade now, to say she’s conservative or leftist would not feel right. She’s traditional in her values and accepts the American dream proudly throughout her music. She represents true divine feminine energy. Truly an icon and someone I will always admire .
she's a wonderful lyricist, and deep in the lyrical tradition. i can't remember which song or album it is, but the interlude where Lana is reciting the words from one of T.S. Eliot Four Quartets - "time present and time past....." - she's a wonderful lyricist
Wow. What a sad song. I've never really heard her stuff before, though I have heard of her. It sounds to me like a woman who is getting older and feeling sad about things not going the way she had expected. She met a man who made promises to her, like he was going to marry her, have a family with her, but then something happened that stopped those plans. Maybe he was a liar and he left or maybe he was a good man but he died? Maybe he wasn't a BAD guy, but he wasn't ready and it fell apart? Idk, but for some reason, he's not available for this plan anymore. Now she can't move on because she wholeheartedly promised herself to him, so no one else can have her heart. It's like they really were married. Prior to modern times (I mean in the grand timeline of all of Human history. Not the past 50 years), this was often literally the case. Betrothal was essentially the contract and God took contracts very seriously. It was the official ceremony. The public one was really more for Man and society's expectations. A famous example was how Catherine Howard was found guilty of fraud/bigamy, and therefore treason. The fact Catherine Howard had promised her childhood sweetheart wifely devotion years earlier, and likely engaged in intercourse with him, meant the church could say she was already married and couldn't have rightfully married Henry VIII. Was that convenient to void that marriage? Sure. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a real concept. Anyway, back to this song... Her friends and possibly literal sisters are as loving and supportive as they can be, but it's not enough. They literally cannot give her wgat she is missing, bo matter how hard they try. Though she cherishes what they are doing. She tries to move on, because life moves on no matter what, but every Spring she thinks of him so much she gets depressed. She shuts down. Now, her friends and family have moved on. They have kids, while she has dogs. She loves her family, and she's happy for them, she very much loves her nephew (in my head canon, this is the one celebrating his birthday)... but she's sad because she never got the family she was planning to. Now, it's possible I'm semi-projecting because this sounds very much like my aunt's life. A life I learned from, because she was so miserable. I knew from her example that I definitely did NOT want to deducate myself to a man carelessly, and then find out he was using me or not serious. I wanted to get married young and have a family. And I did. I'm very grateful I did not make the same mistakes. To be clear, I'm not trashing her, though she did make mistakes. I'm just saying it was hard to see her live the way she did and it was sad. I'm not perfect. I'm not better. I'm just saying I saw this play out before me growing up, and it was a lesson. She didn't have the sane lesson growing up. What she saw was adults failing at marriage, being abused almost to 💀 by spouses. My grandpa was a great guy, but my grandma was selfish and irresponsible. She cheated, divorced my grandpa, and remarried a sick monster. I think because of this, my aunt thought marriage was a sham at best, and possibly even dangerous. I had the fortunate example of my parents loving each other. Which, frankly, is a total miracle since my mom lived through the same stuff. But that's probably enough info to explain where I'm coming from. Probably TMI actually 😂 Anyway, great song. Wow. It has a very "bard" like style. Like a story sung instead of told. I really like it. It reminds me a bit of that song from Mary Poppins, the one about the old lady feeding the birds. It describes mundane things, but it's actually about the pain of suffering and how God is there for those in pain. That's extremely over simplified, but that's essentially the message. I feel like that's the case here too. But it's specifically about the pain of being single. God made us to pair up. It's not good for us to be alone. If I didn't have my husband and children, I'm not sure I could have survived this world as long as I have.
Are we finally getting a song that doesn't feel like it has any hint of "isms" or "phobia"s ?? This is great. Finally a song that has a nice tune without getting political.
Pleasantly surprised by this one ! Lana's been my one and only artist that i have appreciated and been obsessed with ever since first hearing her back in 2012 .. Gods and Monsters was the first of many that i just couldn't stop listening to even if i tried. I had it on repeat for weeks. Walking around the streets of Long Beach Calif. blasting it all day lol lol she's brilliant and so genius with her work. It's phenomenal every single second of it.
Mr. Knowles I have a song suggestion: How Much a Dollar Costs, by Kendrick Lamar, a deeply religiously philosophical rap song that tells a story about Kendrick Lamar meeting a homeless man in Africa that explains to him the significance of turning down the opportunity to help a neighbor in your path toward Heaven. This happens when Kendrick travels to learn the culture of Africa, as a black man, to uncover his roots from birth.
Maybe I'm just not that deep of a person, but that song had me lost 😂 I mean it sounded nice. She has a lovely voice but trying to understand exactly what she was getting at was spinning me in circles lmao. Maybe I just need to listen to it again.
Her albums make statements when you listen to them in their entirety. This particular album was more of a dive into her personal family and friend life.
I guess I'm not deep enough for this song either. She has a nice voice, but the lyrics just came off as stupid to me. Like half thoughts not finished and then she randomly goes off on another topic. Then again I dislike poetry in general so it's probably just not for me.

Blue Banister is not bad but doesn’t make my top 20 list of Lana songs. Michael should react to more of her work.
???
Yeah like her saying “my pussy tastes like Pepsi cola” 😂 which favorite song tbh
Dirty?
@@Ash_Queen16 'my p*ssy tastes like Pepsi Cola' - Lana del Rey in "Cola" 😅
AW is an awful song
I LOVE Lana del Rey! Her voice, appearance, and music videos have a retro look and feel to them. Her voice is so beautiful, it’s soft and buttery. This song feels nostalgic. I have an old photo of me as a little boy sitting on top of a red tractor on my grandpa’s farm, so I can totally relate to that.
This is so weird, I was just listening to her and the last thing I'd have expected is Knowles reacting to her, and positively!
Right??
The remix of Summertime Sadness was the only one I ever heard get a lot of airplay and that was 10 years ago. I thought she was indie.
She's mainstream. But her music doesn't always fit pop. Summertime Sadness, Born to Die, West Coast, High on the Beach, Stargirl. Like everyone knows who she is even if most people don't listen to her new albums. If that makes sense.
i'm pleasantly surprised and didn't expect this at all, i love LDR
sameeee
Same!😊
When you know you made it as a musician: Michael Knowles reacts to your music.
Lana del Rey is a feminist.
😂😂😂
He got to do an interview with her & break the internet
He got to react to todrick hall
That has got to suck
Thank you Michael for reacting to this song; its my absolute favourite.
Same ❤ my favorite album
We need Michael to react to more Lana

Love your analysis on poetry. It reminds me of what G.K. Chesterton once said “Imagination does not breed insanity. Exactly what does breed insanity is reason. Poets do not go mad; but chess-players do. Poetry is sane because it floats easily in an infinite sea; reason seeks to cross the infinite sea, and to make it finite. The poet only desires exaltation and expansion, a world to stretch himself in. The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens…It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits.”
I love this
@ tell me you haven’t read Orthodoxy without telling me you haven’t read Orthodoxy lmao
I'm surprised that you're reviewing Lana Del Rey. Been a long time of hers and of yours. So its neat seeing your perspective on her.
I have never heard this song but I like it. Her voice is beautiful.
Lana is not conservative she’s a chameleon
separate the art from the artist, youll be less disappointed in life.
@@Pikawarps Your argument is essentially telling someone to shut their brain off and ignore context.
@@Pikawarps 😂she isn’t tho plus her music is garbage

I can’t believe I’m seeing DW reacting to Lana !! Here for it ❤️❤️
Michael, you need to start with Born To Die Paradise edition 💯🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Been listening to Lana for a long time now. She’s something else. Not like other artist today. She’s authentically her and her music holds a message we all can relate to one way or another.
Yes! I love BTD
Chemtrails Over the Country Club is so based, Lana has a lot of based songs.
based how?
It's incredible. Probably her best song. May be The best song.
Okay but the I WAS A WAITRESS WEARING A WHITE DRESS song makes me laugh every time 😂 DOWN IN THE MEN IS MUSIC BASEMENT CONFERENCE 🤣🤣🤣
PLEASE DO MORE LANA REACTIONS I am begging Michael this was so great. She has MANY thought provoking songs that i feel are better than 99% of pop music out there. Lana is saving the culture without being cringe.
I love that you brought this over... She is definitely the most talented artist currently out there.
Her poetry, her voice.
Summertime sadness was my jam in 2013 😂
I dig her cover of 'Doin' Time'.
Its so good
She crushed it.
Michael should listen to Stephen Sanchez next, I think he would appreciate the fact that a twenty year old is bringing soulful music inspired by Sinatra to main stream listeners!
I haven't heard but I'm interested. I usually just listen to Frank, Dean, and Rosemary...
@@ari3lz3pp Until I Find You and Evangeline are 2 of his best songs.
Another tikTacky cringe
Honestly, Lana is so cool. She's, for sure, one of the best song writers of this generation
I've never heard of her. I'm 42. But I am impressed. 😊
@lnmas2301 , I don't fight online. So, I will not respond any further. But that was pathetic and rude. Grow up. Rude liberal.
I've always loved Lana's music - _If God made an angel who can sing to men's souls, it's her._ :-)
Lana is the only singer I listen to , she has made me learn to see all the beautiful things in life and everything I want to work for ♡ love this reaction
We acknowledge we're all hedonists in some capacity but we want more and we're striving to fill the hole with the good.
lana del rey and michael knowles in one video sign me up
SAME!!!
She’s not exactly conservative though lol
So what
she was in love with a police officer from OK and they went their separate ways.
OMG! This is why your my favorite, i love lana del rey
But she hates you Donald lol
lana del rey is my favorite artist, all of her music is so beautiful, I'm so glad you reacted to her, I love how you break down songs. I would reccomend her songs "how to disappear" "the grants" or "ultraviolence", if you plan on doing this again
Honestly, it's sounds much better than anything I've really heard for 15 years
I think that she has a degree in philosophy and an emphasis on metaphysics. She puts a lot of thought into some of her songs.
Oh lord my heart, Lana always has it ❤
The voice of an angel and a great songwriter.
*Michael was tearing up from the beauty. I need more analysis!*
Lmao she’s multifaceted like most people. She mentions Jesus and Marilyn Monroe in the same breath. Heroin and drugs and alcohol too. She’s an artist she’s not hyper focused on any one thing. Very nostalgic and melancholy. She’s my favorite.
loved her since forever, changed the way I listened to music. so glad Michaels reviewing it. Lana is so magical and has grown so much!
Surprising self analysis and musicality in this one. I found it quite interesting.
Very minimalist style. Nice! Lyrics, not tune focused. Haunting voice.
I would describe Lana as a Classical Liberal more than anything. Idk, one of the cool things about Lana is she is not boxed into any one type of thing. She is a very multi-faceted artist.
She's absolutely incredible. I freaking love her. She's definitely multi faceted artist.
She is not a conservative but she is a great artist because she writes her own music she is so talented. Her words are so meaningful. I love Lana ❤
She's not a conservative, but Ride's music video is like a nightmare for anyone "woke". :D

Conservative was a very strange description, and I don’t think they’re referring to politics. I think they’re referring to style, but she certainly does not have a conservative style. She has a very on the edge style.
I love Lana and her music. Her voice is beautiful and she is one of the best female writers of her generation, if not the best.
I love her music & her aesthetic. I was amazed of how talented she is when i started listen to her songs ❤️🔥
Lana is not conservative but she’s also not a leftist. She’s just a great music artist with a uniquely lovely voice. ❤
I’ve always loved her music and still do. 😊
On an added note, I do wish a lot of us would stop throwing the “conservative” label to anyone who just happens to not be interested in towing the leftist line.
Burnt Norton interlude from Honeymoon album.
Music speaks to me ❤
Music/lyrics has the power to touch so many souls, it’s magical… he almost looks teary eyed.
Do more of these!
Probably TMI actually 😂
Anyway, great song.
Completely agree, this is how I heard the lyrics as well.
Lol. You just describe my worst fear as a women 🥹
She still has feminist ideology in her hence this song
🍆
That man married another girl while he was out of state while queen lana and him were still bf and gf

Honestly not expecting this but I welcome it fully
Seeing you react to more Lana Del Rey songs might just turn me into a conservative
This is the most professional reaction ever lmao love it
Would love to see you react to more Lana. I enjoyed your thoughtful reaction to this beautiful masterpiece.
I’m not a pop culture fan either as I’ve gotten older, but her music always touches me literally every song I hear
Maybe I'm just not that deep of a person, but that song had me lost 😂 I mean it sounded nice. She has a lovely voice but trying to understand exactly what she was getting at was spinning me in circles lmao. Maybe I just need to listen to it again.
Me too. Lol
It's "The Emperors New Clothes" lol
Her albums make statements when you listen to them in their entirety. This particular album was more of a dive into her personal family and friend life.
I guess I'm not deep enough for this song either. She has a nice voice, but the lyrics just came off as stupid to me. Like half thoughts not finished and then she randomly goes off on another topic. Then again I dislike poetry in general so it's probably just not for me.
Thank you me too.
Michael reacting to Lana wasn't something I thought I'd see 😭😭💗
