Cyclic redundancy check error when initializing disk? These are common computer problems where you can receive an error message: Virtual Disk Manager, Data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check). Location is not available, Drive not accessible, or can't read from the source file or disk.
The first thing to do is to backup your data. If the hard drive is inaccessible, check to see if it has a drive letter allocated to that hard drive. You can always try and assign a drive letter. If you have any strange sounds coming from the hard drive or it keeps crashing, BSOD or freezes, then do NOT run any tests on the hard drive, seek professional advice. The main goal is to backup data and then determine whether its a hardware or software problem.

Definately, the amount of customers I went to and never backed up was astounding. When I was called on this error I advised to not use the computer and switch it off and the first Important thing was to backup before tests. I used to carry a drive to copy the full users folder over as that made sure everything was transferred, then the testing can begin

SSD's I have seen fail are like SD cards and fail without warning so Always backup at ALL times

That is true but though he does give indication that your drive needs replacement, I have the same issue and the reason is it’s physically damaged the best thing to do is replace the drive and save every bit of data you can unless you can fix it or know an expert

When I click the external drive in HDD, it grays out the SMART option. It doesnt read the hard drive in disk management either its grayed out unallocated and wont let me format or do new simple volume

Nice video. Most data recovery professionals will go bananas if they hear the word spinrite mainly because they don't consider Gibson
part of the data recovery industry but a poser who talks about things he doesn't fully understand. HD tune is also a good option to check you drive (not free though).

This happened to me after I had plugged in an older cloned system disk via USB 3.0 port. Once I removed the disk and rebooted all was well again.

Hey Brian, my laptop's drive was cleared and I'm trying to reinstall windows using an installation device. When I try to install windows onto the drive, it says it needs to be converted to GPT, when I go to convert to GPT it says data error cyclic redundancy check, when I do a chkdsk, it doesn't work, what should I do?

Sir my toshiba 32 Gb drive is being detected but I get cyclic redundancy check error. I have tried everything from chkdsk with all syntax disc check and scan now commands, diskpart clean disc and creating new partition even with all pro version of all disc management software done everything but all in vein. Is there any other way to repair it. Even not able to format it.

PSA: cyclic redundancy check errors are not fixable. it is a sign of physical damage. you can try to run HDD Regenerator, but it's a 5% chance that you'll get anywhere with it. always backup and keep a backup of the backup. hard drives are $30 for 1TB, no excuse not to have a backup in 2021, or even as far back as 2006, when platter drives started dropping dramatically in price.

I bought a brand new toshiba hard drive and it was working the other day then went on my Xbox today and none of the games on it appeared so I assumed it was a problem with the hard drive but I tried installing cod onto my internal and it says the game is not compatible and won’t install?
