    For the top crest part of the helm (4:00-10:00), you could have taken a sphere that same size as the one you started with, rotated in X & Y so the latitudinal axis was along the center-line of the helmet. Then delete unneeded faces (everything except the strip along the middle) and extrude the crest outwards. It would have saved you time lining up the bottom with the helmet.

    Hi Mike, I'm trying to model the mouthiece of a Clone Commander from Star Wars Episode 3 (if you type into Google image, Commander Cody Order 66 you'll see exactly what im talking about). Im very confused as to how to do the bottom half of it that fold around underneath on each side. Like i started with the top with a plane and moded it vertice by vertice into place, then i started edge extruding in increments around the curved bend and down, but now i'm trying to rotate and go underneath to wrap back around (i can't link an image here can i?) can you maybe tell me or very quickly show me how you would approach this? I'm a long time subscriber, LOVE your work.

      Try tusing a sphere and two cylinders and attech the vertices

    Hey Mike about models with multiple parts on them how would you go about modeling them do you just have them inside each other or do you combine them? I'm taking a 3D modeling course and the way we go about it is weird. we cut the faces out where the piece would be then attach them at the vertices

      That is a method typically used in gaming. There is more than one way

    sry i may be wrong but i why didnt u just use a smoothed cube would be much easyer and like u did u just have unnecessary triangles

    Really intrested how will you deal with side sphare like if you will model that or use normals

    making the fin...why not extrude along a curve? rather than extruding over and over and over? hmm

    • @StephenWebb1980
      @StephenWebb1980 5 лет назад

      you know, like select the desired edge along the spheres surface, then goto modify->Convert->Convert Polygon Edge to Curve. then select the new curve, move into place, and shift select the face of the cube, and extrude along selected curve in the extrude options...easy peasy
