A very good video, thanks. I owned a Mark 5 and Mark 6 Tornado red GTI's in 3 door. Sadly I didn't think the Mark 7 was as much of a visual step forward from the MK6. The Mark 7 still looks lovely, but I decided to opt for a BMW 125i M Sport, which matches the GTI performance. I love the BMW, but I do miss the awesome gear box and torque of the GTI's. Its probably the best gear box I have ever used. I hope the MK7 interior is better than the MK6, as I had no end of issues with rattles and creaks! Have you got a GTI MK7? Its out here in the UK and has been for over 6 months.
The last Euro or German looking Golf / GTI / R32, etc. was the MK4. To me anyway, the '337' or '20th A.E.' GTI's looked awesome. The MK4 R32 did as well. I don't like the MK5 and later designs. Just my opinion.
Thanks. We're going to do more of these in the future. Hopefully in another week I'll be able to get something together on first drive impressions from Europe.
Fantastic car but just a notch too much of a front wheel driver, The only limitation hot hatches have is they have to be available to very broad audience hence they're all made front wheel drive because it's simply safer way of taking corners fast even by accident if enthusiast pedal push won't make it oversteer into bushes. RWD always more fun sorry, especially if got 200+ hp
Concerning the new turbo setup. Is it like the 1.8t's were where the turbo and manifold are separate or is it like the MKV KO3/KO4 with the one piece manifold? Also any solid info on what size turbo the MK7 is getting? I have a KO4 MKV so I'm reeeeeally hoping they went with the KO4!! That would kick ass to not have to do a turbo swap to get to 300fwhp! Thanks!
Thanks for uploading this, top stuff. Looks like a fair evolution on the old model to me. Pretty much exactly what I expected and wanted. Well, not exactly what I wanted, more crazy VR engines would be nice but I doubt VW has any plans for anything like that. Either way, I like it.
With the exchange rate where it is, this car will be over priced unless they strip it in some way as they have in the past. Let's hope they find a way to bring these in without pricing it in the stratosphere. Maybe they'll need to expand US production in TN to include the Golf lineup.
Great shape way better than the one we have in the market; They need to put more HPs in these cars. Koreans are making strong statements in this segment. Overall I am looking to get this one, but I hope the new GTI will start with at least a 240 hps engine.
what no-one has mentioned is the bafflingly low fuel consumption figures on the MK7. 139g CO2, same as the 1.6 litre Ford Fiesta ST (a supermini). The MK5 was 190g, this is a HUGE improvement. You can drive fast without freaking out about fuel consumption.
Actually the reason for FWD being most popular in budget cars is primarily cost reduction, safety then a distant second. BMW's RWD safety systems have 2 stage stability control (DSC > DTC) and are as safe I'd have thought due to this.
great job! love this vid as it is more concentrated on the details which really juice up the anticipation for a tactile trial. i do wish we would get some of the euro options for the gti here... like the suspension adjustment. =/
great video and information on the cars, i'm really leaning towards the 4door GTI. I've been doing a little bit of research but does it cost more to maintain a TDI version? it's definitely appealing in mileage
Eh... they look kind of feminine, for the regular golf i guess it works, but i was hoping they would go more aggressive this time around withe gti. I dont mind the sleek led tail lights on the gti though.
tell me why it just looks like a bigger version of the civic, come on VW shouldve stuck with the 06 design now it doesnt even look like a VW looks like a fukn civic damn VW been fukn up.
You could always lease a MK6 for 3 years, then by the time they get all the kinks worked out of the new platform, you can trade the MK6 in for the MK7. That's what I'm planning on doing!
Great video. The seat at 8:36 is not stock though. Its the "ergoActive" seat with manually tilting and extending seating surface, electric lumbar support with a massage function.
I think that they should take the sunroof design from the Tiguan and have it extend to the back of the car. Other than that, I'm in love with the new Golf, especially the GTI
Almost perfect right from stock! The only issue I have is with the electronic parking brake. I need full control of that. Be it for emergency situations or for fun ;)

In your BMW,
you can sail with me in my yellow submarine

i hope VW gives an option whether to have panoramic sunroof or non-panoramic. i am not in favor of the panoramic...

They are soft touch in the models they had on display. Base models could be different, but we'll see.
the problem here is the price. more than 30k for a golf, i like the new g7 the only golf i like anyway, but, srsly 220ps, 30k+ ? are you serious.
a golf 6 with new dress. the technology is 95% from the old. and the old one had a lot of problems. The owner of this car will feel bored quickly.
I am glad they have kept the dual exhaust pipe on this car. It looks great and balances the car. BMW should learn a couple of tips from this.
All buttons identical to the ones on Audi A7 ... Golf definitely has a magnificent interior wao !
the gti looks awesome hopefully it comes out like that and brings the price of the mk5 down so i can get it sooner rather then later lol
VERY MUCH EXPENSIVE...VW PLEASE REDUCE THE PRICE....SHOULD BE NOT MORE THAN 20,000 POUND
Thank you for this awesome overview of the 7s. Too bad I'll never be able to afford one...
@symbianworld there are only 18" on the Golf currently, but GTI will have a 19" option.
Will there still be the red ambient lighting at night? Love feeling like i'm on the bridge of a submarine in my rabbit!
it is fantastic video alot of informatio i wish next time ,it can gives an information about the engine too
The radio at 10:38 is not the standard 5" those dont have the proximity sensor. This is the 5.8".
I bet they will be available, its impossible to tell whether or not it will make it to production.
the GTI looks awesome.. but wtf is up with the little windows by the front doors? take that offff!
Sure there are 19" wheels available? Currently there are max 18" available
Please tell me u dont have to chose e-e-brake! and there is a way of changing that radio....
I am not getting a mk6 gti now; my current car can hold me over til the mk7 gti comes out.
I can't stand A - pillar windows :/ Kind of disappointed regarding that design decision.
Thanks! Is the Dash and Door materials soft touch and not hard plastic like the Jetta mk6?
I LOVE those stock GTI wheels. I think this will be my first new car.
Thanks for the walk through. Just looking at pictures wasn't doing it justice.

The only thing preventing me from buying this is the projected reliability.
