To all the people bitching about VW reliability: if you don't give any concrete examples of things gone horribly wrong with your cars no one'll give a shit about your whining...
My brother had a Mk6 Golf GTI and my God was that a fantastic thing! It had two doors, white color and the classic GTI wheels. He drove 140 mph on the freeway and could barely feel it. He also did 157 mph with it! In a hatchback!
My friend has one of these and I took it for a spin today, really fast acceleration and loved the DSG gearbox too. It shits all over the ST, and is a better alternative to the r32 for fuel economy/price.
Car and Driver just released the mag yesterday. It had a comparison. The GTI did 5.6 to 60 and the ST did 5.7. The GTI had 100mph in the quarter mile while the ST was at 99mph. Pick the July copy up and see for yourself
I asked the salesman that basically, and he said that VW doesnt believe in tire shredding ricers. They believe in quiet, quick, and comfortable. Thats exactly what he said. Its still pretty quick and it will break into the 5 seconds to 60 because VW claimed 6.9s for the mk6 and it always did 0-60 in 6.5 or lower.
PhantomHOfficial that's what I'm trying to find out. Although the body styles aren't much different between the 2014 and 2015.. this looks just like the 2015 in America..
I've had a Golf GT1for several years now, very reliable and excellent build quality, not as fast as some I like also and not as sleek as some. I do like the look of the new Peugot GTI too.
Can't wait for this to arrive in the U.S. The car for all reasons. The CLA is looking like a doorstop! Thanks, Matt, for another entertaining and informative review.
I have a 2013 drivers edition with the autobahn package, it’s my first car and I’m not sure if it is a mk5 or mk6, could somebody tell which one it is?
In what way is it all round if it doesn't do some pretty important things as well as it should? All round would imply it being around the top of it's sector in all areas and it's not. It's nowhere near. I haven't even driven it yet but the general feeling among friends who have is that it's more of the same. What makes this better all round than a focus ST? Or an M135i? Or an Audi A3? Or a Megane while it lasts?
What the heck. The first pre-series of this GTI featured symmetric vortex rims but not this one. Were those wheels randomly fitted for special laps around the track?
LOL.. actually I love all kinds of cars. I own an R32 until recently.. Loved that car and in fact looking for another one... Not sure I like the new R better but 2008 R32 is pretty cool.
I’m looking for one for my second year of driving. 2013 DSG / Manual. Recon it’s realistic at all? Looking at like 11k for the car itself but what about insurance
It depends how old you are and the area you live in? Also it depends whether you'd want to be either first driver or go under a family member insurance.
Looks good but the question is can i trash the up coming Mazda 3 Mps cause the previous golf 5 and 6 both ate dust, until the R was introduced... but gotta love the looks of the golf
Sorry for the lame question but im new in the VW world and i was wondering- Is this car all-wheel drive or its only front-wheel drive? Thank you and have a nice day! :)
What are the 0-60 times with the DSG transmission my 2012 can hit 0-60 in 5.5 with the paddles I know its just not the same as a manual but with that big of a difference I couldnt reffuse
Only thing I can't abide is the golf ball shift knob and plaid upholstery on the seats. I'll wait until they offer it with a black leather upgrade package.
Yeey! That means it's got the Haldex FXD, electro hydualic diff. I've read about it for years now and it's nice to hear that it is coming to good use. :)
Sorry to burst your bubble but doing a direct currency conversion is not how you determine the price of something in another country. Average Wage? Cost of living? What is considered normal in each country? etc. etc. and so forth.
I almost agree with you. I would say the Golf might get off the line better but it won't be as fast once moving. It's miles down on power. Also I agree with the Megane being best but I would move it down the list because of reliability issues they still seem to have. I would say Focus, Astra, Megane, VW.
I have to say I personally have owned a jetta mk5 and 2012 polo tdi and they have never missed a beat, it had done 130000 AND I remapped it and the only thing I noticed was loud turbo bearings, but it didn't burn any oil, I have heard of a problem with the 2006-2008 2.0tdi unit having injector problems. But my dad owns that engine in his a4 and its fine so far. Musta just been bad luck with the 5 engines :(
Fact is that this car can be parked outside a 5* hotel, carry four people in comfort and still be a hoot to drive. Not many other cars manage that... for that reason it's the best hot hatch. RS wins on the track yes, but this golf wins the real world for anyone who is not a child. It transcends.
A DSG shifts in 0.04s IIRC. So if a normal/average person shifts gears in 0.4-0.5s in a manual transmission car then this is where the one full second difference comes from.
The plaid seat fabric from the good old days are getting pretty old, the good old black seat is ok as well you know. Aside from the seat, its a pretty good car.
I don't get why people have a problem with Matt - I watch videos because of him. Informative, tells people what they need to know if they actually want to buy the thing rather than just screaming "POOWWWEEERR" or exclusively reviewing cars I will never own. Plus Matt actually seems like a decent bloke unlike some reviewers who disappear up their own arseholes...
Are these custom features such as performance, comfort drive available in the USA? I don't think so...the european version has even power seats...it is a shame they downgrade the car in the US....
I recently purchased a GTI with the Performance Package and DCC. I'm convinced that VW under rated the HP. It's got to be more than the stated 220hp. It's a very quick car.
David Vanderson It goes to show you what a lot of torque can do. We compared a 1.0 125hp Focus with a 1.4 125hp Golf. Same power so goes about the same, right? Not a chance. The Focus could just about go around town at a half decent pace but take it out if town and if was appalling when you consider it has 125hp. The Golf however is fantastic round town, as fast as the gti up to 30 but it was still very fast out town. It was all to do with the torque. The Golf had it in bucket loads. The Focus had none.
The electric handbrake is one of the best features on the car. It simply works! You drive. You stop. The brake comes on. You give a little gas. The car moves forward. You hands never leave the wheel. What's not to like? All cars will have this within 5 years...
Hello Auto Express I really like your reviews. This is a great review of the 2013 VW Golf GTi... I would like to have your permission to upload some of your videos to my channel?
ok whats the problem with Focus ST on road, it steers well on road as well and what about the induction noise of ST,the 2 turn lok wheel 2 wheel steering, the compliant ride quality and the less price tag on door... defenitely Focus has a better chasse.. the recaro seats, the wagon option of ST..... yes i am a Ford fan because i test drove them and felt them, they have much better handling than VWs, the new golf may b better but still i think they are just praising it 2 much
The MK VI is around 30k fully optioned, this should fall in the high 20s. I will be able to make the payments, im not worried. I hope we get dynamic chassis control and the lim slip diff. We do not get chassis control in any current VW in USA, really hope MK VII changes that.
yes thats true, it can b parked in a 5* hotel and thats where its meant 2 be on a real challengin road or on real twistys and on a real track the GTi suks in front of Focus ST,Megane and Astra so i wud say its personal preference, also the Focus ST 2 has a superb suspension setup that dosent jarr ur back like megane and astra,Focus also has those excellent recaro seats, also the sensational induction noise that absolutely makes the money worth spent on Focus ST as well,
You're right. It's nothing to look at. It's a wolf in sheeps clothing. I used to sell cars. And I've driven lots of cars with way more horse power. But the GTI was the most fun car I've ever driven. It's sticks to the road like fly paper and accelerates like a bullet. Test drive one.
Just ordered mine! I really hope it's faster than my mate's civic type r. Beats my current gti by a mile! SO frustrating and its non freakin turbo!! :(
Oh, also, try checking the prices of cars before splurting out stuff on the internet. A6 in the USA is $43,100 (sans tax) converted directly to GBP£ is £26,557. Cost of an A6 (sans tax) in the UK is £25,000. This is why I said the Golf was vastly overpriced - its only £3,400 cheaper than an A6.
I have never bought a second hand car (i still have my first car which i bought brand new a year ago). For the same amount of money i could of have gotten a M3 E46 but the bimmer would be more expensive in the long run (breakdowns, tax, fuel bills etc etc). Trust me if i had the money i would by a 911 in a heartbeat since it's my all time dream car,but due to being a student i have to settle for a Skoda (which don't get me wrong i love and adore my car)....
Btw , I'm sure over in the UK and Europe you guys have the Volvo polestar edition..extremely fast and good looking just sayin if you wanna spend money you mine as well get the most out of it
It is a great car. It's quality inside and out with perceived well built materials, nothing can match it in terms of hot hatchery. However, the price is quite phenomenal. Nearly £30k with the essential performance pack and adaptive chassis! That's nearing Golf R territory and Audi S3 money! Far better get the Leon FR for about £6k less or a probably more powerful Cupra for £2k less! They're not too far off in terms of quality and have the same underpinnings as the golf!

I want this as my first car.
Wouldn't it be LOVELY
i bought one last week 2013, not this performance pack. but WOW is it worth it. 2013 is a great year i HIGHLY recommend
Hunter Cossar How much did you get your car for?
Hunter Cossar I just bought this as my first car, it’s a 2013 drivers editions but I’m not sure if it’s a mk5 or a mk6
@@huntercossar2146 glad to hear. Im buying a friends !!
I am glad Matt is now doing Auto Express reviews :)
This car is amazing.
Thank you vw for making my 2010 look fresh for a few more years
UK and American gallons are slightly different. 47 UK MPG is around 39 US :)
wow.. new Mk 7 looks pretty good and I do like a bit.
A red 2013 GTI is one of a few cars I'm looking at in the next week. It's gonna be hard to keep me away from the GTI.
Car and Driver just released the mag yesterday. It had a comparison. The GTI did 5.6 to 60 and the ST did 5.7. The GTI had 100mph in the quarter mile while the ST was at 99mph. Pick the July copy up and see for yourself

Its still pretty quick and it will break into the 5 seconds to 60 because VW claimed 6.9s for the mk6 and it always did 0-60 in 6.5 or lower.
i'm in america are these specs accurate? Mine has 200 hp and 24/33 mpg city/highway. Is this a different version?
PhantomHOfficial that's what I'm trying to find out. Although the body styles aren't much different between the 2014 and 2015.. this looks just like the 2015 in America..
I've had a Golf GT1for several years now, very reliable and excellent build quality, not as fast as some I like also and not as sleek as some. I do like the look of the new Peugot GTI too.
@Autoexpress, Mat good review but when is the GTD test scheduled for?
Mat mines still going strong at 229,000 km an 07 with no major issues. this looks like the new ride.
Can't wait for this to arrive in the U.S. The car for all reasons. The CLA is looking like a doorstop!
Thanks, Matt, for another entertaining and informative review.
GTI is a world class LEGEND, with a long, respected pedigree! A serious and fun car to drive! A 'drivers' car!
i have seen 100 Gti 7 and stil it looks like shit
stil in love whith the Gti 6
I have a 2013 drivers edition with the autobahn package, it’s my first car and I’m not sure if it is a mk5 or mk6, could somebody tell which one it is?
Also super review. Only review that talks about the limited slip diff option and the dynamic chassis controls. Subd.
This was just the review I was looking for. I'm sold. But I will wait for the new 2014 model with even more POWER!!!
I waited a long time for this!
What the heck. The first pre-series of this GTI featured symmetric vortex rims but not this one. Were those wheels randomly fitted for special laps around the track?
VW Golf GTI is like the Ferrari of hot hatches, it has something money cant buy and what all the other hot hatches never gets. It has a great history!
Golf GTI is the best!! I filmed the 2013 Golf 7 GTI
Most masculine looking hot hatch by a mile. It looks straight edge.
LOL.. actually I love all kinds of cars.

Looks good but the question is can i trash the up coming Mazda 3 Mps cause the previous golf 5 and 6 both ate dust, until the R was introduced... but gotta love the looks of the golf
4:03 - look at the wheel down, when he turns left...
Sorry for the lame question but im new in the VW world and i was wondering- Is this car all-wheel drive or its only front-wheel drive? Thank you and have a nice day! :)
Front wheel drive
The Golf R is the one with awd.
What are the 0-60 times with the DSG transmission
my 2012 can hit 0-60 in 5.5 with the paddles
I know its just not the same as a manual but with that big of a difference I couldnt reffuse

Yeey! That means it's got the Haldex FXD, electro hydualic diff. I've read about it for years now and it's nice to hear that it is coming to good use. :)
why do mechanical limited slip diffs cause under-steer upon corner entry?
Nice review as always Matt!! I filmed tge new GTI
Another absorbing review. Unlike Top Gear, the car takes priority over the presenter.
The GTI is currently the best hot-hatch available in the U.S.! Hands down, a great car.
Yeah. It comes out ealry-mid 2014. I cannot wait to buy it!
Honda had a similar front diff in the last prelude in 97. It was the ATTS option
excellent review matt...as always
So will this version of the GTI become the 2015 version in America?
This is my first car and I absolutely love it. I swapped it for my '12' Honda accord. I am so sorry I didn't buy thevgti
how are the seats in the GTI?
Any plans for a GTD review?
Sorry to burst your bubble but doing a direct currency conversion is not how you determine the price of something in another country.
Average Wage? Cost of living? What is considered normal in each country? etc. etc. and so forth.
I get confused: Which channel does Matt work at??
sounds fucking sweet and revs a lot because that's it's design, revs to near 9000 and actually sounds like a sports car, not a lazy turbo like the gti
is this car fwd or rwd?
I almost agree with you. I would say the Golf might get off the line better but it won't be as fast once moving. It's miles down on power. Also I agree with the Megane being best but I would move it down the list because of reliability issues they still seem to have. I would say Focus, Astra, Megane, VW.
can u please put a 0-100 kmph video of the Focus ST
How much would it be in the US?
I have to say I personally have owned a jetta mk5 and 2012 polo tdi and they have never missed a beat, it had done 130000 AND I remapped it and the only thing I noticed was loud turbo bearings, but it didn't burn any oil, I have heard of a problem with the 2006-2008 2.0tdi unit having injector problems. But my dad owns that engine in his a4 and its fine so far. Musta just been bad luck with the 5 engines :(
Engine note lacks the sound of the Focus ST and even sounds a bit strained.
HELP!! Deciding which car to buy. 2013 Volkswagen Passat TDI or the 2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI. Both are fully loaded. HELPPPPP
Anybody knows how many km can you do in one full tank? While driving 90% highway and 10% city?
This GTI embarrassed the new ST in Car and Drivers head to head comparison. 5.6 seconds to 60 beating the ST's 5.7. Phenomenal!
filmed where portugal? feels like it
Great Car! Performance, safety & good quality materials inside.
I never have cared for that Tartan cloth upholstery they use in the GTI, otherwise it's a GREAT car in nearly every respect.
when is this model coming to north america
Has VW made a car reviewer I'd marry? I think absolutely yes.
Wonderful to drive? Compared to what?
Great review, Mat!
in the end of the video he says 'absolutely the best hot hatch money can buy'
enough for me :)
Renault Mégane Sport is not mentioned as it is upper class hot-hatch.
The plaid seat fabric from the good old days are getting pretty old, the good old black seat is ok as well you know. Aside from the seat, its a pretty good car.
I don't get why people have a problem with Matt - I watch videos because of him. All the fun of a quick car without massive expensive repair bills :-)
Are these custom features such as performance, comfort drive available in the USA? I don't think so...the european version has even power seats...it is a shame they downgrade the car in the US....

I love your review Matt
That's true, if the Megane RS 265 is available in your country, the choice is easy, it's the best.
Was going to get one of these. but found out that it's got that awful electric handbrake. So I'm looking for something else.
The electric handbrake is one of the best features on the car. It simply works! You drive. You stop. The brake comes on. You give a little gas. The car moves forward. You hands never leave the wheel. What's not to like? All cars will have this within 5 years...
Notlib I was dreading the electric handbrake but...it's a wonder of modern technology and would not want to go back.
+MIKE O'BRIEN Some maneuvers simply can not be performed with electronic brake and it is a sports car. So the manual brake is recommended.
Buy the time you buy one of these the mk8 will be on its way. Golf Gti is fast becoming an overlooked recession proof car.
¡Nada como un VW Golf!
This one might be the one I am finally gonna buy!!!
Hello Auto Express I really like your reviews. This is a great review of the 2013 VW Golf GTi... I would like to have your permission to upload some of your videos to my channel?
I like this 5 door version , I've got 2 kids and having to get out to let them in and out is a nightmare , awesome car this is.
It's not a RWD, it's not very powerful and it's a four door wagon but for some reason I love it so much I want to buy one.
ok whats the problem with Focus ST on road, it steers well on road as well and what about the induction noise of ST,the 2 turn lok wheel 2 wheel steering, the compliant ride quality and the less price tag on door... defenitely Focus has a better chasse.. the recaro seats, the wagon option of ST..... yes i am a Ford fan because i test drove them and felt them, they have much better handling than VWs, the new golf may b better but still i think they are just praising it 2 much

volks sendo volks simplesmente perfeito esse golf GTI e esse ronco eim
Matt?! isnt it??
Awesome review
Good looking car, beautiful interior, Instead of buying a MKVI im waiting on this car to be available.
great review, review man
Get more sleep my friend! You look like you gained a few years all of a sudden! All in all, great review as usual.
when is it coming to india?????
Just ordered mine! I really hope it's faster than my mate's civic type r. Beats my current gti by a mile! SO frustrating and its non freakin turbo!! :(
