This is one of my favorite movies. I watched it yet again the other night. It is so moving. I thought it was a lighthearted look at Disney by the ads. When I saw it I was in tears. It is sad and beautiful. It’s not about Disney or making Mary Poppins. That’s just the setting. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. Thompson is fantastic playing PL Travers as still basically an injured child. Fantastic performance
I didn't realize how likable she is in real life! I guess I've seen several characters who are grumpy and she did such a good job with them, I just assumed she was like that!
Are you kidding, darling? ^^ This is the most funny, witty and warm-hearted woman this planet has ever seen! ❤️ I recommend strongly to get addicted to some more stuff of hers... ❤️
I LOVED this film. Emma Thompson was marvellous. I watched it on a long flight to Hong Kong and literally wept during the "Kite" scene. So nostalgic too because Mary Poppins was the first film I was ever taken to see at the Monaco in Rhiwbina when I was about 4 years old!
Yeah, have to admit tears were forming my eyes at the end of the movie. I’m a adult ,52, but I can say Mary Poppins is my all time favorite Disney movie since I was a boy. So when this came out, I was ecstatic. Even accidentally saw some of the making(was attending something else, and walked by the “movie premier scene “ and saw Hanks etc.
Nanny McPhee is also the opposition to Mary Poppins in the sense of the people that want her but I will say that there is a connection of how both don't want to say direct goodbyes. With Mary, the children want her and the parents are the ones who end up learning the majority of the lessons. With McPhee, the parents are at wit's end and don't know where to turn, whether due to loss or misdirection. The kids learn the basics and this displays magic by McPhee's appearance becoming more appealing. This then teaches the children the main lessons of all - be kind and don't judge by appearances. It also proves to the adults that you can do it on your own, just with a clear direction. Though I believe both share this same sentiment of Nanny McPhee's. "When you want me, but no longer need me, then I have to go."
I would agree Emma, its one of your very best if not the best. PL Travers was a lost soul. The Book now and the movie makes more sense to me, I am 59, I was 9 that August of '64. I should make a point to see more of your work than I have.one of my failings.
I loved this movie that moved me so much!I had already seen and enjoyed very Howards End, Nanny McPhee and another of her works, now with this film she overcame! I didn't know why Mary Poppings thrilled me so much especially that part where Julie Andrews sings " Feed the birds", I think this should have won the Oscar for best actress! Enma Thompson was so great and superb on this caracter! She played so well that woman Ms. PJ Travers that thrilled me with her problems in childhood, why it was so difficult to handle her like a real Greta Garbo who put the Disney studios on the knees, she had fear that they would distort story of the book that was in the background a story of her own life, the love that she had in her father.Tom hanks was also great as Walt Disney although I think Disney was a little more cheerful,i do not think he was a misogynistic as the infamous Meryl Streep of the old spoiled Hollywood said ,she kissing until woman in the mouth, this shameless!
Thank you. That speech was based on lies and Meryl didn't do her research. She's literally a puppet. So many came to disneys defence. He did hire women. But as the years went by he allowed them to work longer and in different positions. The reason why he couldn't do so at first was because they would not be educated by their families who, before the war, deemed them worthless. They would also marry or have a father over them who wouldn't allow long hours if any work at all. They would also have children and devote their lives to them. Not like now. And her whole thing about an employee saying Walt didn't trust women was a section of a book. It was about him looking at his daughters and wife eyeing a cat and him telling someone a joke about how he doesn't trust cats or women anymore. Meryl is a puppet. She stole Emma's thunder and that's why she didn't get her award.
Such nice movie..the actress enlivened the whole imagery amazingly I wud love to watch that transformation of a little girl to such stern woman any no. Of times..it's so realistic great job of a protagonist!
I don't think they're rivals... she said she made peace with Helena, plus I think Greg Wise is a much better match. ❤️ But apart from that: she was much better than Carter. ;)
Describing P.L. Travers as everyone has, it seems rather ironic that she would even create a "Mary Poppins" type of character. It's quite obvious a character for children. Did P.L. Travers write a book on Mary Poppins? I'd love to read it!
Emma Thompson was fantastic as PL Travers. However, I knew so little about Mary Poppins before I saw this movie that I thought she was playing Julie Andrews. In addition, I think it's rather ironic that she was so great as Mrs. Travers when she's such an elegant, classy-looking woman and Pamela Travers the person looked more (and apparently acted) like Mama Fratelli.
Why is she talking smack about Pamela Travers? Did she ever meet Pamela Travers? Not good to talk ill of the dead, because they cannot defend themselves.
No red in the movie she stipulates because she doesn't like the colour. !!! Oops. She's wearing red lipstick throughout the whole film. BLOOOOOOPER. HUGE.
Of course it's her favourite role! It's the sort of shit you spew when promoting a film. Then all of a sudden her next film is the best role she's ever had. And so on and so on

Thank God that Emma Thompson is nothing like P.L.Travers. She actually has a sense of humor which is needed to survive in Hollywood.
I love her laugh! Shes like my favorite person ever
Same!
And I love Janeway btw, so nice profile pic:)
Thanks
Just reminds me of “I’ve got a Porsche!”
Yeah, Emma’s pretty cool 👍💗
@@alioc3298 yesssss!!!!
Daddy sends hugs

I love and respect her so much because she takes her art and craftmanship very seriously but does not take herself too seriously. That's high wisdom.
I would just love to see a movie with Emma Thompson, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Julie Andrews.
Manny Pineda My being will be complete :)
Could we add Helen Mirren?
She is gorgeous. And this is one of the best movies I've seen. Wonderful actress.
That moment when you find out she was professor Trelawney😵
Alexandra Maria or Nanny Mcfee XD
WAIT WHAT?!?!?
Daragh Maclachlan And Nanny McPhee :D
FucKING WHAT?!?!?!
I KNOW
her hair really does look amazing! She looks amazing.
:D Was about to same the same...
She didn't say "the best " but "one of the best" . That's very different and not as offensive to her other directors !
Emma's laugh at the the beginning 😂😂😂
"Well.... UNmake it up" LMAO
And the one of the worst snubs in Oscar history
Just enjoyed Emma Thompson watching Savings Mr.Banks on my flight from Paris to Yerevan! Do love her! Amazing woman and actress!
What a wonderful actress and what a wonderful movie
AMAZING movie. Incredible acting, script, and storyline. Tom Hanks was amazing as always, too.
She deserved the Oscar for this film.
Superb movie in every way!
I just love how she's so jazzed about the penguins...It's the simple things!!
What a fun person Emma Thompson is! Brilliant actress too. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. (Just finished watching it on Netflix.)
Nanny McPhee is also the opposition to Mary Poppins in the sense of the people that want her but I will say that there is a connection of how both don't want to say direct goodbyes.

She's so funny brilliant
Emma, you're so beautiful... wish I could look as refreshing as you at that age. Wonderful portrayal you did as PL Travers!
One of her lesser known, and remarkable, roles. I love this movie.
From this, to Nanny McPhee, Sybil Treelawney, and then the Baroness… this woman had the characters down to a tee
I've met Emma, on a film shoot in Glasgow Scotland. So down to earth.lovely woman.nanny mcphee?
emma tompson NAILED IT. her performance was so...
Emma Thompson...she is just brilliant! She is just muu-waahh perfect.
"That smells like perm juice!" OMG hahahaha!
She is fabulous. Actors really acquire more talent as time progresses.
I would agree Emma, its one of your very best if not the best. PL Travers was a lost soul. The Book now and the movie makes more sense to me, I am 59, I was 9 that August of '64. I should make a point to see more of your work than I have.one of my failings.

Thomas Newman's beautiful score is like a character itself in this wonderful film.

I love her!! I love the movie a lot that I've watched it a couple of times.
Every movie she acts in she makes me cry, this movie, I was still crying the next day. I love her.
Favorite movie
This is one of my favorite movies
Such nice movie..the actress enlivened the whole imagery amazingly I wud love to watch that transformation of a little girl to such stern woman any no. Of times..it's so realistic great job of a protagonist!
I love this movie
Emma Thompson ,what a talented actress, writer and wonderful human !
She'd play a good Hillary Clinton
I'd rather see her play an older Queen Elizabeth I
klassicalmuzik oooooooh.im obsessed with the Queen...I'd love to see her as Elizabeth.
B Richard I know right. She would be awesome!
She was in that movie "Primary Colors", playing, allegedly, a character who was supposed to be based off of Hillary.
Stephanie Gittinger and while she was filming that movie, Trump asked her out
She’s wonderful.
Emma Thompson is better than Meryl Streep any day!
No need to compete. I'm glad both are around, performing, and that they're friends to each other :)
#LEGEND
God what a great movie.
She's singing in Sweeney Todd? Wow! First her rival, now her.
I don't think they're rivals... she said she made peace with Helena, plus I think Greg Wise is a much better match. ❤️ But apart from that: she was much better than Carter. ;)

I found it. A whole set of Mary Poppins books, for $23.00.

SHe was fantastic in this role
They may have an opening at The View!
Send them your resume.
"My hair smells like chlorine. And sweat." Yummy mummy!
She didn't hate Americans and America. She emigrated there in '39 with her adopted baby and lived in NYC and New Mexico until well after the war.
Nah her best role is Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. ❤️
Since time has passed & after having played the Baroness, would she still say Mrs. Travers was her best role?
Beautiful woman.
With her hairstyle, Emma looks a like Nanny McPhee!
I think her best role was ( forgive the spelling) but it was Tottie Fruite. It also stared Robbie Coltraine.
Her inlaws live near me and see her around. Shops in Poundland! You read it here!
Is this the story of Woody’s journey to Treasure Planet?
The presenter keeps talking over her, so unprofessional. The guy should be sacked!
Peninugan vs duck 🙄🙄
Me.
Music female teacher ya paino teacher 🙄🙄
Why is she talking smack about Pamela Travers? Did she ever meet Pamela Travers? Not good to talk ill of the dead, because they cannot defend themselves.
Dance role cartoon🙄🙄
So who is Emma Thompson?
How do you live even?
She looks like Hilary Clinton! Lol
Giuseppe Di Mella she played a version of her
COCAINE!!!!
M Metropolis you got any
Hey just kidding
No red in the movie she stipulates because she doesn't like the colour. !!!
Oops. She's wearing red lipstick throughout the whole film. BLOOOOOOPER. HUGE.
That's one of the contradictions in P.L Travers character that Emma Thompson referred to, I guess.
It's quite sad, I was sure for the longest time Meryl Streep was playing P.L. Travers
I prefer Emma not as a blonde.
Of course it's her favourite role! It's the sort of shit you spew when promoting a film. Then all of a sudden her next film is the best role she's ever had. And so on and so on
She said it's 'one of the best'. Not 'the best', not 'her favourite'.
Gorgeous actor. The fake excitement over the fkn penguins is just for US-American viewers.
Emma Thompson, how about you actually respect Americans by pronouncing Los Angeles correctly. You're fully capable.
She’s a British national treasure. Beautiful, intelligent, talented. I love her
I love this movie
