MK2 and UMK3 Arcade1up massacre! (Not of the opponent but of myself)

  • As I hop on the Arcade1up cab in hopes to get better, well tonight was yet another lesson in humility. Here’s the thing, the cab does infact have latency issues, the only cab using an LCD screen instead of BOE, and on top of that there is a .7 second latency issue with online battles. Is this a big deal? Not really BUT it does make a difference when playing between FC and A1UP controls. Regardless. I must get better. Watch as I play:
    MEL
    CHARLIEZARD
    GLACIUSXL
    LASERBLAST2010
    Enjoy!

I love your videos. You’re so good at this game. Watching this on youtube in 2024 thinking about being a kid and watching this in person at the arcade must have been awesome.

Thank you I appreciate the comment. Nothing will ever bring back the glory days of the true arcades, but I will definitely try to over and over again lol

Very cool. Just same random foreign information, that you might find interesting. I'm Portuguese, and my grandparents are from a small town, in an already small country. Back in 2005, in one of the local bars, there was still an arcade of the very first Mortal Kombat! Never saw anyone playing it. I tried a couple of times, but it was too difficult, I wasn't used to those controllers.

Cool that you remember that thanks for sharing. I still remember the last time I saw an actual MK1 machine as well in my city and exactly where it was. The mall has since been torn down, but the memory will remain alive forever 🙏🏽👊🏼

I had no idea you were recording or dealing with all this. I actually hate getting LiuKang, and Mileena on Random more than once. They're over used already. So on Fight 4 I picked everyone's least favorite, Reptile. And then Shang to get some other fighters in the mix. Why else would I morph into BARAKA against LIU KANG! I also really don't like to block, I prefer to avoid. If you watch, I usually only block when there's no other option. You'll never see me backing away full screen or just blocking. I lose to that stuff too but never resort to doing the same. At that point I'd just go do something else.
And yeah, your monitor is added even more delay. I noticed that even before I bought the cab. I thought the input delay was insane. Then in other videos it seemed a little less. So, yours is stacking delay which makes "reacting" nearly impossible. Even on the base garbage monitor I have, the delay makes things like Bicycle kick and ground pound way harder to deal with than it would be on an in-person arcade cab. It's the only thing I don't like about it. Spamming moves doesn't work as effectively offline, but it's rewarded on 1up. Especially if you stack a third factor of... 2bar wi-fi with some players.

Dealing with what? As for recording I’m TRYING to get better by playing more and recording sessions to watch what I can improve on but like you mentioned the latency is a big issue. I was looking at MK Deluxe cabs here for that BOE monitor to be honest but I can’t justify buying another cab at this time. I do notice I’m improving on Fightcade but as for getting better on my 1up cab that’s a huge challenge. Thanks for the breakdown and comment dude I appreciate it 👊🏼

lt is Iike you have said before, you have to pIay very defensively and l guess that's just the way it is if you want to be "at the top" when it comes to these games. lt does suck some of the fun out of it, but it is the way it is l suppose. l, myself, have just started playing on my A1U cab and most don't play this way but the "top pIayers" definitely do. The bIock and wait approach is certainly not the most fun way to play.

I’m not a fan of that style.. I’m starting to question my choice of even wanting to get “better” on the cabs. Because ultimately getting better means playing super defensively on top of learning “glitch” jabs and such and, it makes the game lose its appeal almost. I appreciate the comment 👊🏼

Playing FC made me better on the cabs. My suggestion would be 2 weeks of only FC then return to the cab. I noticed a big difference in my skill level. I was against glitch jabs and run jabs for the longest time. It's just part of the game on all the early MK's at a competitive level. I can tell you from experience though, using them just adds another layer to the games making them more fun, not taking away 💜@BushyStallion

@@BushyStallion Nah, the thing I've had to understand too, is that most of us grew up as "THE BEST MK PLAYER" in their hometown back in the day. Everyone was #1 to everyone they knew. Now we've all congregated on the world stage. A giant pool of all the #1's. So, in that realm, we can't all be "THE BEST" anymore, but it's because of who the competition is. And honestly, I think some feel the need to maintain that #1 spot a bit more aggressively than others. That's all. I still love to be great at the game, but I'm in my 40s now not my teens, so I don't need a "#1 MKII Player" trophy to feel something positive about myself. So I'm cool with being mid-tier among the best.
