The Mileena / Kitana AI throws are ridiculously frustrating and bs
I agree. Seeing this game again as an adult really shows how much money I threw away to annoying AI as a kid haha.
I was playing MK2 at Costco because they have these for sale and I totally agree. My second opponent was Mileena and I was surprised at how difficult she was. Her throws are ridiculous. When I'm performing a move, she somehow grabs me through it 96% of the time. Very unfair!
That's how they made their money of the arcades you had to keep putting quarters in over and over.
I would go as far as to say that the AI straight up cheats. It can cancel your moves and override them with it's own at inhuman speeds. I still love the game but goddamn lol.
you just can't let them walk in on your or you're done
The most effective strategy I found was to force the CPU to jump towards you and counter them with a quick jump kick. To do this take one step forward and jump backwards. You'll notice the CPU hesitate for a split second before jumping forward. You'll hit the ground first and that'll give you the opportunity to launch the jump kick counter. Its pretty effective.
I used to see people use that strategy in the arcades. It works at least until you get to Kintaro. I can’t remember if it works on him. I’m almost positive it doesn’t work on Shao Kahn.
@@Doucheydouche it doesn't work on either of them because they use a "boss jump" (they stay upright, snd don't jump as far).
There are plenty of cheese strats to beat them with nearly everyone, though.
that's the technique i used back in the day, most effective using sub zero after the jump kick counter freeze the ground as soon as i land from that kick enemy slipping toward me and then uppercut or kick him. unfortunately it didn't work with kintaro....
@@Doucheydouche yeah, this is exactly how I played as a kid. I dont remember ever beating II in the arcade. I think I only saw one or two people ever beat it. III and Ultimate must have been easier because I beat that several times in the arcade.
In mk 3 sub zero freezing attack do to the jobe too
Don't hold block at the beginning of the round against Shao Kahn. Hold down to duck, his dash attack won't connect, and then you can uppercut.
For some reason this really satisfying to watch lol
Well there may be another one of these coming soon for you to be satisfied by! hahah
This game's final ROM revision has loop holes depending on who you pick and which side of the machine you play on. These loopholes require the difficulty to cranked all the way to max (VERY HARD) to make the CPU AI predictable from the 3rd fight to the end. This way, the only hard battles will be the hidden characters (Jade for 1P game, Smoke/Noob 2P game) and the bosses ...
If you're playing on the left side: Pick only Cage, Reptile, Sub-Zero, Shang Tsung, Jax, Baraka, and Scorpion. With the latter being the only exception, all these fighters have one thing in common: no teleport move. Teleporters are handy only on the right side because they have a different loophole to exploit. From here, during the 1st match on the Deadpool, just duck down. The CPU will walk right next you, and whiff high punches. Time it right and uppercut 'em. Or if you're Cage: nut punch, football punt (F+HK), shadow kick juggle. You can win the fight with just all uppercuts but the CPU could still get in some retaliation. For the 2nd fight, the pattern there is two or three jumps backward to create distance and then jump forward and kick, and juggle or sweep if it lands. Fairly easy fight but this pattern only works here because now the CPU is pissed off and ready to kill you.
3rd fight onward: When the fight opens duck for a split second. The CPU could open the round with either a jump kick attempt or a teleport, and if you time it right, you can make them pay with an uppercut. Other than that, this is where the CPU likes to approach you until they reach just outside of sweep range and either throw a projectile or teleport move. This is where a CPU Raiden becomes dangerous because he can decide to just ... hooomakamatayeeee ... from the front or back! The key here though is they usually chuck 3 or 4 projectiles moves in a row before advancing forward, teleporting, or shadow kicking. If they advance forward, you need to time a backward jump so that when they walk in close for a high punch, it should whiff since you're already near the arc of your jump or making your descent. This goads the CPU into leaping after you after a brief hesitation ... and that hesitation is key because you're already on the ground by the point to either uppercut them or set them up for a combo. Without this hesitation, you should jump back one more time to create more distance since the odds are the CPU will follow you with another forward jump, setting themselves up for punishment. The drawback here: if you put yourself into the corner, *DO NOT FIGHT YOUR WAY OUT*! If you don't let the CPU throw you out of the corner, they will wreck you with a corner combo and then throw you. So letting them throw you is the best option as it's less damaging and puts them in the corner, where there's a 75% chance they follow up with a special move that can be blocked for a corner combo of your own. If they pursue instead, leap backward once they're within sweep range. They'll probably follow you with leap forward for the hesitating leap forward. Use this all they way up to the bosses ...
BOSSES: For Kintaro, play defensively. He's going to fireball and leap a lot. But he's also going to roar and pose just as much. If you're using a character that has a 25 degree angled jump kick, you can Flawless Victory is ass all day long because if you do a snap jump kick right at his forehead when he's walking toward you, he'll bend down to double uppercut you and eat the jump kick instead. This snapping jump kick -- i.e. where you hit the kick button at the same time to leap forward -- is crucial for the boss fights, but fighters with a 45 degree jump kick (Raiden, Lui Kang, Kung Lao) can't pull this off but they have fireball and teleport traps to make up for it. Just keep practicing here. The 25 degree angled jump kickers can wreck Shao Kahn by forcing him into a corner and once there, duck his hook, and retaliate with a ducking low punch + uppercut for a sick two-hitter!
RIGHT SIDE LOOPHOLE: This will be short and sweet: the CPU is a sucker for being goaded into throwing projectiles when you're doing a leaping backward kick. So if you time your kick very late so that the animation for it starts just a split second before you hit the ground, they'll throw a projectile, opening them up for a teleport combo or Liu Kang's low fireball. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I shit thee not! You can fireball trap, teleport trap, diving bullet kick, ground roll yourself all the way to the bosses with the remaining characters since they can't perform any of the loopholes on the left side of the machine. Attempting those loopholes on the right side = Roundhouse City! Not good!
This is pure gold! You’ve really been there, got the t-shirt, and wrote the book. If only we had the resource in the 90’s.
Fun fact there is actually a strategy with teleport characters as well, if you've seen PNDK&M you'll know that the best strategy especially for speedruns is to jump back and kick which will bait the Ai to react then as they react you teleport and punish their reaction, it works the best with Cyber Smoke as he can get the best damage from jump back kick, teleport punish then jump in kick into air grab, it makes running through this game so much easier
My bad I wrote my comment before reading the right side loophole but it works on both sides if you jump back kick straight away then teleport punish on reaction to the projectile
krissspy
@@ctgmighty7039
You are confusing mk2 with ultimate mk3. Cyber smoke is not on this game. It's okay. You weren't even born when these games came out.
Barakas shredder is OP. The ai often walks or jumps into it.
Thats exactly what he just said 🤦🏾♂️
Did you watch the video🤦♂️
@@davidkruse4030 Didn't really watch it. used to run the machine back in the day with this cheesy tactic. You can beat the game on a couple credits if the operator doesn't set the difficulty off of the normal.
Version 2.0 was actually fun to play in the arcades, and just about everyone could 1cc it. That all went away with version 3.1.
My exploit fighter is Kitana - I use her longer sweep kick which has sometimes a phantom connect, and just take my time to draw the CPU in for an unguarded hits. Technique is pretty similar to yours in the video!
The sound effects and visuals in the game are amazing. The voice overs are still some of the best ever made.
Agree.
"I RULE THIS WORLD!"
Agreed
Yep!
OUTSTANDING!
14:03 "surprisningly Shang Tsung is not that difficult here"
Shang Tsung: proceed to punish him
Yes, we ALL SAW the SAME video you did.
Proud to say, I beat MK2, in the Arcade, in the 90s (I don't recall the exact year). I used Katana, and I cheesed the SHIT out of it :) Fan wave, jump kick, air fan, zip punch combo on repeat.
Raiden is the easiest character to defeat Kintaro with. You can teleport after a knock down followed by a roundhouse kick. You can continue teleporting and roundhousing until he's defeated.
Thank You So Much! Your video helped me to beat Mortal Kombat 2 (SNES) as Baraka! I kept on using that Shredder Move!
I’m glad it was helpful!
Now that's interesting. Back then when I tried to figure out how all of this works in MK2 and how the CPU is cheating my top choice was always Barakka, followed by an intentional continue in the Kintaro match, choosing Kitana for that and the fight with Shao Khan. For both I always used the careful-defensive technique and when they got close enough without hitting me I threw the fan elevation thing, hitting them hard after that. It wasn't as hard and combo'ed as you did and took a lot more time but did the trick without a doubt using only one continue in best practice :)
There’s a much simpler method with scorpion to beat the regular fighters after the 3rd one. Jump kick, hold down while they’re landing and getting back up, then when they walk towards you, jump back. They’ll jump with you, but you’ll land first. As you’re landing, start the spear move while you’re in the air. You should be pressing low punch to finish the sequence of the move when you touch the ground. By the time they land, they’ll jump right into the spear. You just do this forever until you get to Kintaro. With him, you can easily beat him with anyone and their jump kick. You just have to time it perfectly right after he uppercuts and misses you when you’re jumping towards him. The jump kick has to be SUPER late and super deep in order for this to work. You can beat anyone with Shao Khan, too. Sometimes he’ll mow over you with a shoulder thrust or a punch, but you can basically jump towards him, land right in front of him and crouch immediately. He’ll do a punch move. Wait for the punch move to completely end, then uppercut him. Jump towards him as he’s getting up and just keep repeating the crouch and uppercut method.
I'll try it!
The difficulty goes up as you play. If you set it to very easy by the time you get to the final fight it'll be on very hard. I'm really good with Reptile, I pretty much get to Shao Kahn with him and then use another character if I want to beat it with someone else.
I used to cheese kintaro with Scorpion - get him into the corner and try and do the in close HP elbow, the temporary stun means you can do it as long as it takes. Shao Khan is easier, jump into him with no attack and duck, more often than not he'll do the kick or the punch which will miss and you can uppercut. Very cheesy but also effective.
I own the real full size arcade of MK2 and I always set the difficulty to very hard and I am great at the game. I spent tons of hours when this game came out and it's sad to see my Aladdin's Castle closed down in 2000. I was also in a MK2 tournament back then and yes I did win so money for that but for owning a real arcade I had to buy that with my own money when I was age 19 so I started very young in collecting real arcades. I'm 43 now and it's cool to see these mini arcades come to life again especially for the people who wasn't around the 80's and 90's so i'm glad Arcade1up came up with this idea and I wish we had these back then.
Hang on to that cabinet! I hated seeing my local arcades die off. There’s one location left but it’s just full of the newer arcades that have no soul in my opinion. Just money eating beastly machines. These smaller cabinets make it possible for me to have something like the real thing. If/when I move, I hope to have some ground floor room to have some real arcades. Right now, mine are upstairs in a spare room that can’t even accommodate a full sized cab lol.
Oh I still got it with my collection and I was lucky to buy it off at Aladdin's Castle after two years has passed so I jumped on it quick but the price then was expensive but at that time I had to own it. My friends were shock when I bought it and after the mall closed they would come and chill at my place and have fun there so it was cool having a arcade party with my friends late at night. I have one local coin-op shop here as well and they lease and sell arcades still so i'm glad they are still in business through all these years. I bought a Dark Stalkers in a Dynamo cabinet from them for $550 and the cabinet looks like new but I don't care for the game so I bought it because off the price and I still own a few CPS2 games so to me it was a steal. I bought alot from them in the past so they know me so that's probably why I got it for cheap. I think back in 2006 another coin-op shop was open and they were just selling arcades so I stop in to see what they had and what caught my eye was two Ms. Pac-Man. I asked the owner how much are you selling them for and he said $500 each so I picked out the one with the faded graphics on it and the other was just plain blue. If I had more money back then I would of bought both but one is good enough so I was happy. I had a full size NBA Jam Tournament but it got sold and I wish I still had it and the condition was super new and it was in a bowling alley place. Yeah your right the arcades nowadays are children machines and claw games and those don't catch my attention so I pass on those. I hear ya about having your ground floor full of arcades and that's how my mind was set when I was age 18 and at the time I was living in a apartment so being on the 3rd fooor wasn't fun moving them. lol :)
I always walked all over this game with Liu Kang when I was a kid. I'd be spamming punches, fireballs, and sweeps while charging the bicycle kick, and the second I knocked down my opponent, I'd be on them before they could fiht back. It was pretty rad.
One thing I remember noticing in MK2. Johnny Cage got a new fireball attack, which looked like the ball in NBA Jam when you're "on fire".
The Kitana fan lift method was how I defeated Kintaro and Shao Khan to win Mortal Kombat 2 as a kid. She became my favorite player for that trick.
Dropkick fan throw too
If you were really skilled you could even do an uppercut while Kintaro was jumping at you from above. Uppercut would send him to the other side of the screen because of the height.
I abused that Kitana combo so much back then. Fan lift > jump into late kick > fan throw > uppercut. Super cheap, super effective.
If you wish to have or play the ultimate version of MK2 ever made, with a more forgiving and less cheap AI, i suggest you try MK2 PLUS. I installed it on my MK2 arcade cab and this is definitly hands down the best version of MK2 period. Your gonna throw MK2 ver 3.1 away. You get a few new moves, a new AI which is less cheap if you put it on extra easy, Jade, smoke and noob saibot are playable, and some fatalities have also been enhanced like for Johnny cage torso rip, the enemy's legs falls down once he throws the torso over his shoulder instead of remaining straight, which never made sense to me back in the day, stuff like that. Theres a new MK2 plus menu too and features you can tweak to your liking, you can choose the coin-up screen and the game over screen, use the classic or turbo mode, use the new AI or keep the old one.... In a word, its great ! And the greatest thing is, they used the original code within the game to bring out all those enhancement. Its not a mugen version, they kept all the original assets of the original game. Its like an updated version of the 3.1 revision. Check it out, its free if you know how to patch the rom (which i don't think will be an issue for you considering your skills) heres the link : www.mortalkombatplus.com you have all the instructions on the website on how to patch the rom and install the game. You can also get the new UMK3 PLUS that just came out a week ago. Enjoy !
I've heard of Ultimate MK2 and actually played it in an arcade recently. This looks interesting. I will check it out Thanks!
@@KillerArcadeGames Yes you definitly have to check this out, its MK2 PLUS beta 2 (which is the latest version) you can also get the recently released UMK3 PLUS beta 1 as well but MK2 PLUS is the more complete package and was released a year ago or so. Once you'll install MK2 PLUS on your mame cab, you won't ever replay revision 3.1 trust me. You'll see. You will need MAME plus to run it but everything is on the www.mortalkombatplus.com website and well documented you shouldnt have any issue patching the rom and make it run in your cab. Enjoy
Where you get your cab from I need it lol fr
what i wouldn't give for somone to release 2.1 of MK2 when you could do the babality then kill the baby lol
Just hearing that old arcade sound brought me right back to playing MKII as a kid.
This definitely brought back some amazing horrible happy/sad crying moments
Just in case, I recommend that you know all of Baraka's special moves so you can use it on other occasions to do more damage to the opponent and if you want to make it more fun you can do Fatalities although it is not necessary
Caught this video late as i was about to sleep. Booted up MK2 this morning. Beat MK2 on my ps3 for the first time in 10 years lol.
Thats awesome to hear!
Still have the muscle memory of how to do all these moves 25 years later....insane
I remember some combos too! Insane is right
Not as hard as you think, mate. Kiiind of riding a bike
My cousin not too long ago came over while i was playing killer instinct on the Wii(modded). He's not a gamer but was able to do all of orchids combos like he never forgot after 2 decades. That muscle memory a mf bro lol
First of all it was 28 ago when mk2 released. Second of all there where 4-5 motions for all the moves. Du df DB bf bb FF the same for every fighting game.
You're insane if you're proud of remembering child's play
I used to play that way when I got my NES with MK2. Good times!
The strategy I used that I found as a kid was pretty simple and usually got me to Kintaro was this - Keep ducked > Let them walk right up to you > Jump Back > 4/5 times they'll jump with you > Uppercut or round house kick > move forward to gain ground > repeat. The basic strategy. Which I think others here in the comments have mentioned. Doing uppercuts was risky though, a late timed round house kick was better because it would send them right over to the other side of the screen meaning you could walk forward and not get stuck at the back of the screen where you couldn't jump backwards. Kintaro I can't remember how I beat him, I think I just use to cheese him with jump kicks.
Kung Lao's diving kick is good too! Jump backwards and have them jump with you and use diving kick.
I figured out pretty quickly that Baraka was the fighter that would get you to Kintaro with that slashing attack when I first played the game. After that just jump kick with any fighter to defeat Kintaro and possibly Kahn. I only found out about beating Kahn effectively by watching youtube videos.
Mixing in baraka's command slash move (forward+punch) here and there is also effective against opponents that try to shimmy you like raiden was. It has longer reach than his slashing barrage does.
Man you work with hank hill lmao love that 🤣😂 propane and propane accessories 🤣
Here's my strategy for this game, for opponents 3 and onward (minus the bosses), I usually jump backwards all the time, and the CPU mimics that as well, as soon as he jumps toward you, immediately high kick, rinse and repeat. The bad thing about it is, it does NOT work for all characters you play as.
Never played this MK2 as an arcade - only on PC. But this video did bring back memories. I remember playing lots the MK1 arcade when I was a kid.
Remember well that Kano was the one to first get thru Goro. Kano's leg was so low down on the jump kicks that you could easily hit Goro immediately when going up in the air. A long serie of rapid jump kicks towards Goro's face was more than effective. Kinda repetitive (and boring) surely - but was the way to get easily to challenge Shang Tsung with all of the other characters.. Good times.. Nowadays sometimes play MK1 on a plug-n-play controller game that connects directly to the TV.😁
WOW, love that Kintaro intro round. goddamn 4 armed tiger stripe prick bastard of my youth
Cool technique. Makes sense. Smart playing. Simple and effective. Appreciate the vid
back in the 90s what we did was a very simple thing.....wait for the computer to get pretty close to you, but not close enough to grab you, then jump back. if the computer jumps, upper cut it. if it doesnt, then jump back again. it takes a while to calibrate the distance correctly, but once you do, it will follow your lead every single time.
Playing the Sega Genesis version when I was 10, If I saw that Mileena and Kitana were at the top of the tower, I'd immediately hit "reset".
LOL!
I remember when my old classmates and I in elementary school would trade moves, fatalities, friendships, babalities, and pass around the players guide too! Ahhhh good times!
All you gotta do is hold down and crouch, then jump backwards. AI will pause, then jump forward without attacking.
Yep thats the strategy for every character except the bosses pretty much
And thats why i hated this and sf2 turbo because it read inputs i didn't know this shit as a kid so i assumed i sucked but now i know it was rigged to rob me
the only ones that technique doesn't work playing as are Liu Kang, Raiden, and the female ninjas. For those 4 it's better to play on player 2's side where the difficulty is lower
@@blackneotheone2978 the crouch jump method won't work if you pick liu kang or play on the second player side
@@biggezee i didn't even know that
This is encouraging...I thought it was me. Good to know everyone has experienced this game completely ass whipping them
Its not you, this game is brutal.
In the arcade I use to hope somebody would come over to challenge me. A human was slot easier than computer 😂
Haha I agree!
That depends, i remember some dudes was simply masters in this game.
@@juanfonseca31 lol just played the arcade version last night i cant believe i use to beat this game at 7 years old im am puzzled right now
A lot more fun, too. I was the only person who really played fighting games in my friend group as a kid, which led me to think this is the worst Mortal Kombat game in arcades, and I still kinda do.
I remember back in the 90s spamming quarters at MK2 and using the Kintaro corner glitch to beat him. I made it to Shao Kahn once, ever since then I've been obsessed with owning an original arcade of it.
P.S. The game is so unfair to Scorpion.
I remember watching this guy at the arcade use Kitana to high fan them up in the air while they in the corners and just high punch them to death as they couldnt fall back down.
It took me 2.5hrs to beat this on easy on xbox 360 arcade to get the final.damn achievement I needed! Bloody torture.
This video was extremely helpful until I got to Kintaro. For Kintaro I use Liu Kang and the strategy I would use would be to use my ring finger to charge the bicycle kick with the low kick Button and use my middle finger to jump and high kick. I'm playing on a mortal kombat arcade 1up machine
Nice! Yea, Kintaro throws a wrench in this plan haha. I haven't tried Liu Kang against Kintaro yet, I'll give it a shot.
Revenue was about $600M US. I remember not having much of a hard time in 1993 getting to Kintaro but then it was tough beating him and that took me a few months to actually win using Raiden and later with Ermac. The MAME version is not as good as the arcade, but you can buy a refurbished MKII for about $800.
If u use lui krang and bicycle kick against kintaro in the corner n spam low n he cant do nothing. Also u can sweep kick when hes close that works too
It's kinda like using Dhalsim in SF2 because he could stretch his arms and therefore make it easier to hit the enemies. I remember those good old days... :)
I’ve mastered this game with Liu kang. Simply do the flying kick over and over while simultaneously holding low kick for 5 seconds to stash the bicycle kick. The flying kicks just buy you time because the opponent mostly ducks to avoid getting hit so you have to be fast with your buttons. But when you stop let them get close to you then release the low kick button and bam bicycle kick. Obviously you have to use your own creativity of other ways to cause damage but that’s a staple and is the go to in a tight spot and it works every time. I’ve beat the game on max difficulty more then I can count with liu kang doing that.
When you let kintaro win I started laughing hysterically
That immediate uppercut after he said that
When you jump back they almost always jump towards you. Before they land just smack them back with an uppercut or a highkick sweep, this works for every character.
You don’t have to go to the edge of the screen.
Just crouch, and let him get near, and than jump back, the opponent will follow you with a jump!
I remember to play MK2 in Hungary with one coin (20Ft) trough!
There is also a trick for player two, and with that you can make nice lookin “combos”.
Hey guys, old MK2 player here that used to beat the game on double master on one quarter while playing as Shang Tsung able to turn into every character, do every move/fatality. There's an AI glitch you can take advantage of which involves doing a roundhouse sweep after you've uppercut or jump kicked the opponent down so your 'sweep move' that isn't anywhere near them is transpiring as they are getting up. You then jump forward towards them and not attack. This confuses the AI and you're able to 'walk' them back into their own corner. You then walk back towards to mid distance and then jump towards them. They will typically do a projectile attack that you use a delayed kick while in the air so that it lands and you avoid the projectile. Combo them and punish.
To get them back into the 'walk glitch' again, you use sweeps while they are landing from a jump forward, or similar so they do a backflip back away from you, then you jump forward again without attacking.
I've seen some MK2 playthrough videos of folks doing this, tho a lot don't know it. Once you learn this tactic it makes the game more enjoyable and doable and less of this turtle in the corner tactics shown here, as you're not limited to any one character or as player one or player two. You can do the glitch with all characters.
Good info! I've been able to walk them into the corner a few times but I can't seem to perfect it. I got so many suggestions from this video I made a follow up of me trying everyone's suggestions...mostly failing though! haha.
@@KillerArcadeGames I actually came across your video because I've been thinking about getting the cab. I really wanted to get the Cosco one after I saw videos on that, but yeah... that's no longer an option. I was watching your other video you referenced. After you get them walking you do not jump back, you instead WALK BACK to mid range, pause for half a sec (they should do an attack), and you jump forward and start the combo process. You will notice when you have them walking with you, you can shuffle back and forth with them and they will kinda 'dance' back and forth shuffle with you. Jumping or stopping in movement is what causes them to immediately attack. This is why reptile immediately kicked you out of the air when you were in his face attempting to jump backwards. Again, once you have them in the corner you walk back to mid range.
Also a general tip with Scorpion. If you jump kick and they block, teleport back away from them to usually avoid counter attack. This is especially effective if they block while in the corner, because you just teleport away from them, instead of going to the other side of the screen.
Btw, the earlier versions (and I'm not using exact version numbers here just the main patches that went out to the arcades) of the software for MK2 were atrocious. If you think the difficulties on the 1up cab are bad, you don't know the dire circumstances of the arcade on v1 and v2 of MK2. What you're playing is like v3. As v1 and V2 were unplayable vs the computer. He'd literally spam toss you. Raiden was the worst then. You couldn't do anything to stop it. Most folks are unaware of this because the patches came out rather quickly once they realized how bad it was. People could only play vs each other, as vs the computer was impossible before the 2nd patch (v3).
Woops and lastly, YES totally confirm player 2 has always been the easier side to play as. The game does cheat on player 1 side after so many victories. Yep even when I was in my prime back in the day, it would pull some mega BS on you, even unblockable stuff just to snag your quarter. If you solo play MK2, you play player 2 side. Absolutely.
Here's a good video by someone illustrating the various juggling combos that are possible in MK2.
ruclips.net/video/YimCA1366As/видео.html
So there is another way to cheat the AI that is actually a little more fun than the one you showcase here because it allows you to actually pull of some nice juggle combos. You have to choose the player 2 side. This works best against the 2nd to 3rd AI opponent because as you mentioned, this is where they get really cheap. Basically all you do is move in towards the opponent and watch them walk back. You can essentially walk them all the way into the corner and as long as you keep walking forward, they will keep walking backwards with no risk of them doing anything to you. Next step is to walk away just a bit and then jump back once. 95% of the time, the AI fighter stops walking away from you for about a second or 2 because they are about to throw a projectile. Right before they do, you are in the perfect position to jump in over the projectile and land a jump kick that will juggle them for the opportunity to land a 2 or more hit juggle combo. I used to do this back in the day in the arcade and beat the whole game on 2 quarters. It even works on Jade but you just need to time your jump quicker because she moves faster. Enjoy!
i'm confused about the start of your combo; the AI always walks toward the player with the goal of doing a throw. so how do you get it to move away from the player? its hard for me to visualize walking forward, then jumping back once, then jumping forward over their projectile. still, i am interested in seeing your strategy in action bc it sounds promising
Billy Bones Here’s a link to the video I created. Notice how you need to walk in slightly before you jump into them to activate the glitch: ruclips.net/video/D8tRi-0uDtE/видео.html
Billy Bones Here’s another video I made for you: ruclips.net/video/HaNbn-G7IsU/видео.html
I used to come home from 10th grade and beat the crap out of this game on SEGA Genesis, hardest difficulty, no losses and some flawless wins and I could, at one point, do it with every character. I don't think I could do that today.
Haha yes, I would LOVE to know the $$$ these machines earned!
I would assume during the peak years it would have been nearly $1k per day on weekends. Those machines were always busy at my local arcade. They had 3 of the same damn game and they were all in use. I know those used to cost them $2-$3k to buy new back then so they must have been making their money back quickly to buy so many.
@Randy Wilson you seem knowledgeable, but that sparked a question... once the machine was purchased, did they take a portion for royalties or anything too? Or once you bought the machine all the earnings were yours to keep?
@@vangoghsseveredear Probably not but I can only speculate as I was born in 1995 lol
@@vangoghsseveredear it depends on the arcade, many places didn't buy games at all. Some like Bally's and Alladdin's Castle bought the games outright. Locally we ha a company called Dee's Amusement and they provided games for convenience stores, Walmarts, Theaters, and some arcades.
@@slimmdogg420 so the companies send you it and rent it to you basically? So they keep majority and give the business a percentage or something? Interesting. I missed the huge arcade boom unfortunately. I was around basically to watch the end of it, but ive always loved arcades. It really is a shame they aren't really made anymore
I dunno if it's the same for the arcade version, but in the console version there's an almost foolproof way to beat Shao Kahn easily with any character. All you do is jump back into the corner as soon as the round starts and hold crouch block. He'll hit you with his shoulder charge which will break your guard and do some chip damage, but his recovery is so long that you can just uppercut him before he can follow up, dealing more damage to him than you took from his shoulder charge. Then you just hold crouch block again, wait for his shoulder charge and repeat. He always does the shoulder charge and he always gets hit with the uppercut every time.
Thanks for showing me your technique Chris.
I am able to consistently beat this game on one credit with scorpion.
It goes like this:
Foot sweep when enemy is close.
If enemy jumps back, teleport punch, spear.
If enemy blocks, jump back.
If enemy follows with a jump, apply a combo.
If enemy does not jump back, repeat previous steps.
On kintaro, it's hard. but basically the strategy is to footsweep and do a little damage at a time.
For shao kahn, it's really easy with scorpion:
Jump forward and kick. Block Shao Kahns lunge.
Punish with spear. Repeat.
The foot sweep and the jump back work a lot for me. When fighting some opponents, I flying kick as well. I will try the strategy you mentioned about Shao Kahn, though. Perhaps, Kintaro is the hardest character to beat.
(Freezing him with Sub-Zero can be quite effective, but you have to be very quick and it doesn't work all the time)
I beat MK2 only few times back in my childhood on Sega Mega Drive 2 and that was it. I never wanted to return to this game again. Well, maybe for playing it for short period of time, like for a few fights and that's it. This game is very frustrating! I'm surprised that no one didn't tried to fix this game.
I tried doing you Kitana method against kintaro on my full size arcade game with revision 3.1 on medium. 98% of thr time he blocks the jump kicks and throws you or does his teleport stomp. The best way I found on my version is to get him in the corner and spam the fan lift fan throw fan swipe over and over again repeating it. He turns into a sissy in the corner. Good thing I don't have to pay to play because I must of continued 50 times
For the very first opponent, at normal difficulty, you can actually just crouch and the computer won't do anything except try to high punch you. This was programmed into the arcade version as well as all the home ports. From there you should be able to just uppercut them the whole match.
If you lower the difficulty, it increases the amount of matches where the AI will do that. It is basically doing that instead of throwing you.
Back in the days, I think I beat the game only with Liu Kang, using fireballs.
So much nostalgia. GG man.
Thanks!
MK 1, 2 and 3 (including Ultimate) def ate a lot of my quarters, but with every quarter i spent, i got better. a lot of kids these days cant comprehend that. you MUST learn and get better when it eats your money every single try.
i got so good that i could use *almost* every character and win with spending $.50.
Getting good at a game or losing money is lost on the average modern day gamer lol. I'm almost at that level in Killer Instinct but I've lost a lot of skill I had when I was a kid in arcades on MK2.
@@KillerArcadeGames indeed they do! haha
but yeah, my skills arent what they used to be as the very few arcades that are around me (and currently open) dont have MK2.
guess i need to just build my own cabinet for Mame! hahah
I had a technique with Scorpion. But I think I've also had good success with Baraka and that Edward Scissorhands move lol.
"the timing is very hard to get down"
*you end up winning*
'oh' 😅
It's much harder but I wonder how you'd fair using Sub-Zero, JIK -> slide -> sweep -> jump away -> freeze -> uppercut/repeat.
i remember on normal, I was able to be able to beat it in two quarters with the "jump back, then quick jump forward and kick, rinse and repeat" method. The reason of 2 quarters was because I had to re-pick Sub-Zero when I got to Kintaro to do the "freeze in the corner and punch the shit out of him" method. However, if the difficulty was put any higher than normal, forget it. The AI was impossible for me. I spent an INSANE amount of money on this game back in 92-93, was SO OBSESSED with it. It remains my all time favorite MK game to this day.
I swear I was much better at it back then lol. Join the channel tomorrow night, I'll be live streaming all 4 arcade games in celebration of the new movie releasing this weekend!
Nice video!, I would like to see you beat the game with every character
I've seen people play MK2 in the arcade and never got hit more than twice and no kontinues. It is possible but you have to REALLY know the game mechanics.
In UMK3, if you pick Sektor/Robot Smoke, jump away from the opponent and kick as you're jumping back, this will cause the CPU to throw a projectile, simply teleport uppercut, kombo, rinse and repeat.
This strategy also works with Kung Lao in MKII.
Straight jump, then Low punch/low kick to trigger their projectile, and then dive kick (down+high kick) while in the air. Works against almost everybody.
I use that in UMK3! I have a similar video on that.
also when you jump kick opponent also sweep them back + low kick at same time( it does more damage)
If you were to inform me 20 years ago that one day I’ll have my own arcade in my living space I wouldn’t believe you
MORTAL KOMBAT 1, 2, 3, Ultimate 3🔥🐉🔥🐉
Hey this video was just recommended to me! Dude we did the exact same thing lol even the title is similar to the title of the video I released lol that’s crazy man, I think we may be brothers from different mothers lol WOW
We may be! My dad was on an ice breaker near Canada in the coast guard way back…maybe there’s something fishy here hahah. I think this is my most popular video, which surprised me because I just threw it together and barely knew what I was doing. Stumbled into RUclips success again!
I found a quite effective way of beating the opponents on the Genesis, I don't know if it works for the arcade version. The main technique works like this: you simply crouch and wait for your opponent to come closer. Before he/she grabs you, jump backwards. Most of the times they will follow you and jump as well. When they do that, you have some options: 1) high kick as they are landing; 2) press back + hk for that stronger kick; 3) if they're close enough when landing, you can uppercut - this is quite useful, because it causes more damage, but it doesn't work all the time; 4) low kick, but I strongly recommend the high kick, because it's more effective.
If someone reads this comment and has the arcade version, he/she might try this strategy. I played the game in the very hard mode (the hardest mode in the Genesis version) and I could make it to Kintaro with few continues. The hardest characters to beat, besides the bosses (Kintaro and Shao Kahn) are Mileena, Liu Kang and Johnny Cage, because of their movements and it's harder for them to fall into that trap.
For some characters, a simple flying kick works out: the Ninjas (Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Reptile), Kung Lao, Jax and Rayden. You just have to be careful with the distance: it's a medium distance, similar to the one when the fight begins. You shall not be too close or too far. Again, this is for the Genesis version; I don't know if it works for the Arcade.
If someone tested this, please leave a comment and let me know your experience.
Plus:
1) as you might guess, this is not a strategy to beat Kintaro or Shao Kahn. I'll try to find a easier way to beat them, but I still don't know. Perhaps, doing what Chris (I guess it's his name, my listening is awful) suggested in the video.
2) I tested this strategy as Sub-Zero, which is my favourite character. I still need to test with the others, but I don't think there will be a big difference. I will comment here again as soon as I know.
Anyway, that's a great video. Congrats, Chris. Cheers from Brazil!
I will definitely try this! My name is Chris, good listening! haha Thanks for the detailed comment!
Best strat I ever saw was to have multiple style sets of moves with a few chars an get to around stage 7 or 8 an switch around, but good luck doing that game on a single cred.
I just want to say I love your pfp. The Crow is my favorite movie.
@@FluffyBunny9002 TY, mine too 😁
I always wanted to see someone with a setup like that with old arcade machines.
Nice.
The post popular is to let them walk close to u and flip back most of the time they flip and u can counter hard 🎯
i remember just spamming shange tsung' s fireballs to beat everything at any difficulty
You can use the blade chop technique with Kintaro just the same as with Shao Khan at least on the Genesis version. You spam Subzero’s freeze on Kintaro when he teleports and the same with Shao Khan.
I came up with a technique like this using Ken in Street Fighter 3. Everyone would have trouble with Alex ( always the third enemy). I figured he can't defend while attacking and that his specials have long recovery time.
I played this game for years as a kid and I'm still not sure if I ever beat it on anything above easy. lol
Man this game could turn on you so quickly lol. I used to be able to finish it with one coin using Baraka and Kitana. Jump kicks all the way to get out of a jam hahaha!
Thanks for proving this game is fair!
I heard that for an arcade machine to be profitable, a quarter should last you 3 minutes max. Funny enough, the game Baseball Star 2 actually has a time limit of 3 minutes, and then shows the continue screen. I guess there was no way to make a baseball game where you loose in just 3 minutes.
If Raiden or Shang Tsung stops to spam fireballs right outside of the slice range but too close for a jump kick, you could try a leg sweep as you are already spamming backwards.
well i learned something new. the game wants my quarters again...except there is no quarters. thanks man
Hahah thanks for watching!
there is a way simpler way of defeating kintaro which is once u take some time to perfect it is easy work, its just jump kicking him and u kinda stick him in that loop
I lined up quarters on this game back in the day. got to use low kick on the jump kicks, late and deep at their waist which will volley them, combo to blades as you touch down on the ground and finish with the blade spark or juggular swipe move. damage for days. also when backed into a corner do a deep low kick crossover combo to blades, floor sweep and blades again. basically you are hitting low kick and back back at the same time then lowpunch as barakas feet hit the ground.
I always managed to get to the final fight. 1 credit used. Scorpian, spear then combo then while in the air, spear.constantly
When I was a child and played this on the snes, I beat this games a dozen times. I know I used to play the whole game with one character, but can't remember if it was Baraka. Then I'd switch to a different character at the end to read their endings.
That's because arcade versions of games were by far harder since their purpose was to take all your money. Home console versions were easier.
@@carlosrodriguezb Yeah tbe version that I downloaded on the ps3 must be the arcade version because I was nearly convinced that game is impossible.
We did different way. From third you crouch when opponent is in range of a step or better two jump back he will do same thing but with small delay and he is on your mercy ; me- back+HK, and rep again. Second like was show in a corner he will jump after you as you are in the end your jump will be held +kick, he will land from hit then aprouch to the two step distance and jump back and kick in the air as he follow and repeat. Millena katana, liu wil need different strategy
:-) I can pass it with one quarter on either side. It takes a while but you can pick up all the patterns.
Why am I hearing da homie Dashie in my head during that Baraka vs Raiden fight? I'm hearing Raiden shout " OKAY! YOU NEED TO PAY UP DEM 5 DOLLAZ NOW MAH BOI!!! I NEED TO PAY MAH DAMN CHILD SUPPORT!!!"
hahahaha!
you know with Kitana once you grab your opponent with the fan lift you can, after doing the Jump Kick/Fan, you can finish the combo with Flight Punch for even more damage.
Back when this arcade machine was brand new and our local arcade got one, my brother was the first person to beat it, and with baraka. Lmao! I remember he had a crowd of like 20 people standing around him watching as he reached the last two guys and, ya, used hack and slash on them endlessly and beat the game.
me and my friends in any fighting game would call the AI having to win "Terminator mode" anything you do the AI stops you until you are GameOver.
And the game freezes if you still somehow win. AI is the original ragequitter.
MK2 sound and music is my favorite
