This is so badass! In the MK games back then, it was amazing that they actually had real actors and promoted them within the game too! I mean if you beat MK3/UMK3 or MK Trilogy, it showed them all with the cast of characters. The way they used sprites and motion capture for a game in 1995 is freaking madness, way ahead of its time.
It was awesome, but actually fairly old hat at the time, not ahead of its time by any means. That was an old school idea being modernized, and was a popular technique at the time. Sadly it was a relatively short lived fad due to production costs.

MikeTLRi Wait a sec...does it count as cosplay if they’re the original? Or is it cosplaying the character sheets? You’ve opened up a whole can of philosophical worms here
Yeah !
I did see a Katana cosplay at an anime con last year, she looked bad ass
I don’t see actors in this video. I see mortal kombat characters in real life.

Thanks, bro
Sub zero was red? Huh. Thought it was ermac or something
@@PomadaGamingthere was never an unmasked ermac in mk3 so obviously it's sub zero
I wonder why they used 2 costumes for Cyrax/sektor instead of one for them and smoke and recoloring it digitally?
@@PomadaGaming saves having to have a blue and green screen. If the actor wore a blue costume, either it would get lost in the scene, or they would need a second screen
The designs still look fresh and actually easy to cosplay. I love it!
Yeah I love the 90s and 3rd era and including mk vs dc designs for the mortal kombat characters. I don't really like the over design looks they have now. Details are fine but don't over do it. Keep it simple and traditional especially if they are eastern based characters.
@@gokuwrightattorneyatlaw5227
Yeah baby. And it's seems like the design was *grossly overdetailed* for some people's taste right...
And I think that keeping it "simple and traditional" thing for designing any "Mortal Kombat 🐉" characters seems like a *pretty good choice* to me...👍
Well thanks for that, Astrid Parungao 😄👍! The character design itself definitely still looks *fresh as ever* okay...✌️😁
Damn this was an exciting time . MK3 in arcades , MK movie on the big screen , MK magazines scattered around my room trying to learn everyone’s moves ... such great memories
yup
Agree
That satisfaction when you invited friend just to perform freshly learned fatality, or whe you discovered new Shang Tsung morph.. :D golden times.. secret service articles on the wall.
I forgot all about the fact that we had to buy 30 dollar magazines to learn the moves lmao
I still remember spending all my allowance on "Tips & Tricks" magazine which were expensive for me at the time.
Ed boon out there busting front flips on to mats, he should of put himself as a hidden guest character in the game years ago
He sorta did with Noob Saibot, Noob is Boon backwards along with John Tobias, the co-creator, Saibot backwards, the closest they got I believe
Good analysis sir lol I would of never known
@@IgorBrendo what backwards saibot you are talking about?
@@v-trigger6137 puting Boon and Tobias backwards you have Noob Saibot
Mokap couldve been ed boon and it would be perfect
My favorite Mortal Kombat in Sega. Nostalgia for childhood. The actors are very well chosen.
So basically MK is so ahead of its time.
Basically
Nearly all games made at the era used similar technique, pixelating photos into sprite. But I can see that MK set-up were quite elaborate and seriously developed.
The early ones are.
They were natural bodybuilders which is even more cooler...
Ye, they looked natural not the big sausages in a net from the last games
How could you know they are natty, you did them blood test yourself ?
thats y shao kahn has gyno lol
Ricardo milos
not all of them, actually. i know John Parrish was one, and i think so was John Turk, but the others i think only had fitness/martial arts instructor credentials (in some cases, clearly more the former than the latter).
Wow RUclips’s recommendation is actually nice this time
Ed Boone munching on that popcorn in the foreground all while Kung Lao is doing his moves in the background is beyond hilarious😂😂😂
Dude, SHAO KAHN’S ACTOR WAS JUST HUGE.
Ruler of the Outer Realm made of silicon :p
Maybe huge in size but in height he was only about 5'4 and was wearing risers. Ed Boon is 5'11 and the actress that played Sindel was only 5'.
You blind

Without my glasses. :)
He is Nikolay Valuev
This is so epic! Thank you for this amazing upload!
Oh hey didnt expect to see u here
Let's do this shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!
8 Bites exactly what I wanted to say
Should've made a movie with these actors.
FireStormBaller we run into a problem with the ninjas characters
I don't think they know how to act.
I think most of them had martial arts, modeling, or athletic backgrounds. One of them was even a game designer (Sal Divita who was Nightwolf).
@@thebasketballhistorian3291 The people from the MK-movies didnt know how to act either, lol.
Funny thing is when they were making a movie, the actress that played Sonya in the game actually wanted to be in the movie as well but was turned down.
@Bergr B he was clearly joking, take it easy man.
I watched this multiple times. I’d love to see more behind the scene clips of MK
The fact is the old school MK was made by real humans behind the scenes. Nowadays only animated characters. Not bad, it's also great but amazing how they used to work with real guys.
Zerdest Erkan Today they still use real people for the face model, they put those sensor thingys on the body of the actors and they animate it afterwards
@ yeah just like in friday the 13th the game
Zerdest Erkan, Real humans were in "Detroit: Become Human" and etc.
Actually, you need reals humans to make humans character
Damin Mance this technique of making games is just outdated now. Making MK like this nowadays would just be plain stupid. I have no problem at all with mortal Kombat going 3D. Games evolve. And it is kind of necessary if you want to tell a good story
As for *27 years later* , it's pretty much as groundbreaking to this time even in the times of *cutting-edge CGI graphics* right now...
It was awesome, but actually fairly old hat at the time, not ahead of its time by any means. That was an old school idea being modernized, and was a popular technique at the time. Sadly it was a relatively short lived fad due to production costs.
This is like some sort of sacred footage
This is the kind of dedication we need in todays games. There arent enough places that do this kind of good job
I always thought Jax looked like Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air!
When first saw this video I thought he looked like creed jr
The generation differences in these two comments is so obvious
@@dazburnside7340 on god

That would’ve happened if cousin Will actually died from the gunshot on that one episode.
Little did these actors know they would make history
The OneReBorne Well i mean this was the third game im pretty sure they knew what they were in for
I think they had a slight clue....😅
They did lol
Should've had a movie with these actors and costumes
They had a movie about Mortal Kombat
@@gamingpro-nt2kz he said with these actors and costumes.

well just because they do all the move, not mean they can act so better not.
Couch Time - Right
we need another MK like this.

Not even the Earthrealm invasion XD

Macaulay Culkn if he had a decent childhoood.
Kkkkkkks
That must have been so much fun to work on that project!
esp if you're a vain martial arts actor
And it's booming!!!!. Go Mortal Kombat, btw how old are they now?, i've played this game since Elementary school, not for children..i know but it's badass at that time.
Shiva fucking hot. ...
bastiaan0741 awesome
I would work for free on this project
Ed Boon directing Kung Lao while eating popcorn is an iconic moment in gaming history.
The real cosplay!!! Cannot get better than this
Felt like I was back in ‘95 for 6:55 minutes.
really tho
simpler times
Awesome time. I was turning 14 going into 8th grade fall of 95. I remember reading the gamepro comparisons of mk3 for the ps1, snes and genesis versions at the magazine stand inside safeway's lol.
Soon as it came on I felt that same raw feeling I had playing it, perfection
True
They actually got very fit actors to do the job.
i think it was said they got them from a local gym
@@mikeadams9302 nope gym.
"They, or rather the human models for the computerized images, teach karate at the Lakeshore Athletic Club, 1320 W. Fullerton Ave. That's right, Mortal Kombat's murderous martial arts aces Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Baraka and Kitana go by more mundane names like Tony Marquez, Daniel Pesina, Ho Sung Pak, Rich Divizio, and Katalin Zamiar when they're chopmeisters at the Lincoln Park health club five days a week. Even club controller Michael Dow, a top student, was almost in Mortal K. "But they ran out of storage capacity, so they didn't film my character," Dow says glumly."

A young Ed Boon. Gamers should thank that man for giving us one of the greatest fighting games ever made
And also for giving us one of the most recent crappiest stories in mk history
He lost his way at some point, but the original 3 games will never be forgotten.

Another MK with this style would be received with open arms I believe.
Wish they'd go back to this style. It's so cool and honestly, can't get more real than actual people. What an honor to have your entire being be immortalized in a game.
Dude... this is incredible! These actors literally made me dump quarters into the MK arcade machine!
So that’s how the kitana red glitched happened, and people thought it was scarlet

Seeing this and then the young Kano in MK11 I'm amazed how much they got him right.
Magiczny Gość SENPAI
the only thing they fucked up about MK11 Kano, is his eye implant. Rather than his half face gone (like in all previous games) he only has his eye replaced. I was like wtf Netherrealm studios, how can you ruin such a simple design element???
So true
But like this actor for Kano looks like he's having a lot of fun
Kinda makes me want to like Kano more
Brrrrrruh i just said the saaaaaame thing!!!!!!!!!
That's also the same dude who played as Quan Chi in MK4 and Mythologies.

Juan mk3 is pretty broken. Umk3 is better but there's still an exploitable glitch jab that they never patched out and was only addressed in a fan revision. All in all, mk3 killed competitive mk. Today's MK is on a whole new meta and isn't recognizable to me anymore
@@bryanaa196 you're dumb if you don't think Mk3 is good. Graphics aren't everything. I still go back and play 1 & 3 sometimes
I just realized how much past Kano from MK11 looks like the Kano actor
@Shuichi Saihara say that to Kano.
All of the past characters are from just after MK3 I think.
@@hatad321 No, they are right after beating Shang Tsung, A.K.A. Mortal Kombat 1
@@parrata Oh yeah, that led to me thinking that maybe the fighters from the past are from parallel a universe (like in Dragon Ball Z lol). It could make sense since past Kabal runs fast, but the Kabal in this timeline got his super speed when Shang Tsung healed him, and Shang Tsung couldn't have healed him if he wasn't burnt my Kintaro : thus getting "rebuilt" by Kano, but he's not rebuilt, so yeah, multiverse theory, yeet.
