Thank you for reliving this with me for my first watch. Watching them execute their craft on stage with such mastery is so captivating to the senses and to the soul.... excited that my PF journey is only beginning! 🥰
I saw the tear!!!
Yes...PF has done that a few times already to me... I surrender :)
Simply beautiful. R.I.P. Rick Wright
To me, this is the best version of echoes. It is a great
Blend of the meddle version and live at Pompeii.
I am beginning to agree, but that LaP '72 performance is so strong I'm not ready to officially change my stance yet. I also hear a bit of pre-Meddle freak-out noodling reminiscent of Saucerful and More, which is so cool to see/hear in a modern context.
Hard for me to pick yet...but this one was special for sure!
Live in Gdansk is one of the greatest concert films ever. It doesnt have the epic presentation of a Pink Floyd show but it doesnt need it. The entire recording is so powerful, so emotional and yet uplifting. The band was on fire and complemented by Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra who were amazing. ````````there are great versions of pretty much everything here including the best version of High Hopes.
Nice, thanks Andy
Masterpiece! This version to me is elevated above all others.
Getting to the age when getting choked up says it all. 🙏🍁
While your @Gdansk, i STRONGLY recommend "A GREAT DAY FOR FREEDOM" ... Most powerful guitar solo from David since Comfortably Numb from Pulse
Absolutely outstanding performance!!! Incredible!!!
YES! Can't wait to see more...
Honestly, every time I listen to or watch this, I never want the coda to end.
I feel ya....
We're so fortunate to live in the times when Gods walked the Earth...
Totally agree! We've lived in the 2 centuries in the whole existence of time that will have the very best music I believe :)
It is fascinating to see Richard play! Because throughout his entire career the humility was unbelievable with him because he was the glue that held all their music together!! I really think even though all these musicians on this band are highly rated he was the most underrated keyboardist in almost any band!!! You hear so many people going I don't know what it is about their music but it's mesmerizing or hypnotizing! That has a lot more to do with more than just David's brilliant guitar it's that overall atmosphere that Richard always creates around all the music. It's like his music is the giant blanket that surrounds all the other sounds!!
This is extremely well said, couldn't agree more. I am so happy to see Rick's legacy and crucial contributions to the "The Pink Floyd Sound" being appreciated more and more by new fans who don't have the baggage of history weighing them down.
Although loving the old Pompeii Version most, this last encounter of Dave and Rick on stage has its own magic🌈🌟❣️
Yes Jon! You put it perfectly. If you step back and look at their catalog as a whole, this is all 100% accurate, and I haven't even heard much yet!
I feel one of the best things that ever happened to my generation was being able to go and experience a Pink Floyd concert Live. I've had the honor of seeing Pink Floyd in concert three times with the Pulse concert being one of those times.
Special memories for sure! Thanks
the ending always makes me cry🥲
You and me both! Happened to me twice!
This might be the last Echoes with Richard before his passing. RIP Richard. It is my favorite for the last few minutes where David and Richard go back and forth.
Yes!, I can't think of many more live moments more touching than this....
I will now forever link the call-and-response outro in this performance - and probably every version of the song - to the memory of a friend being moved to tears. Yours induced mine, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Shine On, Brandon.
So much going on in that section, both heard and unheard. Crying was the last thing I would have expected to happen on this channel when dreaming about it back then, but it's just a testament to the power of amazing music and storytelling...
David described this song as basically a conversation between him and Richard, which is why he never played this again after Richard passed. The interplay between the two of them and the end is just pure perfection
That's was makes it so special and a historical moment....Thanks
I love that when Dave improvs, the crystalline sheen falls away and his soulful blues influences shine though.
Yes to that!
This track was my first listening to Pink Floyd back in 1974!! I was 16 years old then!! This version is very different from the original! Especially the last part!! The last part is a beauty 😍 ✨️ ❤️
Awesome start to PF! Thanks so much for watching Robert..
The other guitarist is Phil Manzanera better known as the guitarist for Roxy Music so a top musician in his own right.
Awesome lineup here for sure!
And of course, the great Guy Pratt on bass.
I can't listen to this without crying. It's as if the two are arguing using music, and the conversation is a sad farewell.
Grazie Richard Wright
Floyd opened the show with Echoes September 1987 in Montreal.
After they took off Echoes to replace with Shine on You crazy diamond.
Wright loves to play with the black keys
I have looked everywhere for the interview to link, but I THINK it was Nick Mason who described the band's disengagement from Echoes through the aMLoR and tDB tours, referring to it [paraphrasing] as navel-gaze-y, outdated, and ~la~la~la~ pretentious. I'm so glad Dave reappraised its quality with the benefit of age and wisdom.
I recognize those eyes.
hmmm ?
@@retroreactions.... You're experiencing The Floyd just like we did. It's beautiful for us older gents to witness young people like yourself, buying the ticket and taking the 'full' ride. You have an old musical soul, combined with the gift of patience, contemplation and articulation. Rare qualities indeed. Thanks for all of the consistent effort and sensitivity that you put into your videos.
Oh I thought maybe you knew me haha.....Wow, what thoughtful beautiful compliments. I really appreciate that. I want to keep improving, but it's very nice to hear that what I'm doing is resonating with you!
Great reaction! Please react to a great day for freedom, live at Gdansk
Yes indeed, the concert setting in the shipyard where Poland fought for freedom from the Soviet regime makes that song even more affecting than it already was.
Great Day ****************** "On an Island" ******************
Thanks Ignacio!
Hi ! very nice live show ! wow ! i was just passing by and stopped to check it out of course ! LoL but i ll have to go at 10 minutes in ! but definitly will come back to finish it ! see ya later ! 🎸🥁
Thanks so much, the ending gets real emotional for me!
You can almost hear them saying goodbye to each other in those final few notes. Yes this was part of Dave's "On An Island" solo tour that year. The entire show was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in London and can be rented or purchased here on RUclips; but is also available for free here, it's called "Remember That Night". Has also been shown a number of times on cable AXSTV over the years. (might want to keep an eye out for it).
Yes he goes heavy in on Pink Floyd material after giving his solo album sufficient due. There's a mean version of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" here with Graham Nash and the just recently departed David Crosby singing Harmony. RIP 🌹
Crosby, Nash and Gilmour. Three iconic voices of rock and roll sounding magnificent together. Nice job as always!!
PS. Floyd's original session Saxophonist Dick Parry also joins him on this tour.
Sounds incredible! Even though I know their 70's live footage is scarce, they obviously have tons of live goodies for me to explore...
Dave said in an interview that he could never try to play this again since Rick's passing cause he felt that Rick and him were talking to each other. i like how they film it with the two in the same frame as they were talking to each other. A freakining master piece of collaboration. Rick said that this tour was the best ever . he said he can actually hear Dave's guitar work. They did some " Barn Jams" ( 6 i believe ) after this with Guy Pratt ( bass) and Steve DiStanislao (Drums) . Checkout he whole concert " On an Island" Dave gets a bow clap from the orchestra, " take a breayhe
I think the song must stay retired forever, after this epic touching moment...
Yes he did a lot of his solo music and in the second half it was Pink Floyd ,I went to see this tour at the Royal Albert hall in London.
I seen David and Rick play this in Glasgow in 2006 and it was good. This however is next level stuff it’s like they have perfected it over the years it makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time. RIP Rick
Every time I listen to one Pink Floyd songs ,If ask me which one is my best or favorite song, I can not choose which one is it , because they have so many masterpiece and beautiful songs. Echose is of that.
I know the feeling....for Depeche Mode, at least 20-30 songs would be my #1! Echoes is brilliant for sure...Thanks
How emotional is that ending.
You can clearly see what it does to you and you’re only just getting into it all.
I’ve been lucky enough to be listening and watching Floyd for 50 plus years and still get goosebumps every time, even now.
🎶❤️🎶
Yes! I'm sure it's gonna happen many more times!
@@retroreactions....
Hi, I thought you might enjoy this little gem. 5 Tracks from David Gilmour, Live in South America, (2015). A couple of tracks you may be unfamiliar with, plus the others you’ll know, culminating in another classic version of ‘Comfortably Numb’.
1. Astronomy Dominé. (The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. 1967). 2. Us and Them. (DSOTM, 1973). 3. Today. (Rattle That Lock, 2015). 4. Time. (DSOTM). 5. Comfortably Numb. (The Wall, 1979).
But, I especially thought you’d really enjoy seeing the crowd on this video. Definitely worth a watch, but just my own opinion.

Enjoy 🎶❤️🎶
Mate I’ve gotta say I’ve gotta take my hat off to your Gilmour and co reactions…!Your very focused and thorough! Not to mention how much you enjoy it all as well! Nice one mate!!
So good to see you appreciating the genius of Richard Wright, a keyboard wizard he was.
The guitar strap, Gilmour is wearing used to belong to Jimi Hendrix. David’s wife bought it at auction as a Birthday gift.
Rock on Brandon. 👍🎸🤘
Richard is now up there for me with Martin Gore, Alan Wilder, Tony Banks, David Paich, etc...
Wow that's awesome! Thanks for the watch and comment, hope all is well. Did respond to your email in case you didn't see it!
@@retroreactions.... I did see it thanks Brandon, you’re a star.⭐
Thank you for reacting to this beautiful performance. It's so moving to me that I can only handle it when I am in a certain space emotionally. As for the band, it is David Gilmour's solo band, although the bass player from the Pulse concert, Guy Pratt, is performing here as well and continues to perform with David on his solo tours. Richard Wright also performed with David Gilmour on David's solo tours (although David tours very infrequently; perhaps once per decade). I was fortunate enough to see David Gilmour on his solo tour in 2016. He performed classic Pink Floyd songs (complete with a laser light show) as well as music from his handful of solo albums (his 2016 solo album, 'Rattle That Lock', is enjoyable). He still sounded great. If you ever want to react to music from that tour, I suggest checking out his version of 'Comfortably Numb', as well as 'In Any Tongue' from the tour David Gilmour, Live in Pompeii, 2016.' As for Pulse, if you haven't already heard them, I suggest 'Sorrow' and 'Keep Talking.'
One more thing!! I started to cry a lot when David started the last part 😢
You and me both.... :)
They must have known Richard was dying there at the end it was like they was saying good by to each other
Great reaction. Nothing like a 60 yr old man, drinking his coffee on a Sunday morning listening to this epic performance with his headphones on, looking at your expressions and listening to your comments. It was hard to keep the tear drops from falling into my cup when David and Richard start trading off notes .
One of the most powerful moments in music that I've ever witnessed....
Thanks for watching Jess!
@@retroreactions.... you're very welcome. I subscribed after watching You're first Pink Floyd song. I very much enjoy all kinds of music. I am very partial to classic rock however. Pink Floyd are special to me though because my 17 yr old guitar playing grandson share a love for them. He and I share a close bond in our love and passion for music. We share new RUclips experiences anytime he comes to visit. I will surely share your channel if he doesnt already know about you.
That's awesome! He has great taste like you...thank you so much Jess. Really appreciate all your support :)
Give Dave a little look on his solo work . "Live at Pompeii" 9Dave's final concert) a return 43 yrs after. Guy ( bass) Steve D ( drums) keys Chuck Leavell ( Alum Brothers) & Greg Phillinganes ( Micheal Jackson former Music director) "in any tongue" " The blue" Only repeat song from 1972 " one of these days" last time "comfortably numb" 150 million views.
Yes definitely want to check out that show...
This is from David's 'On An Island' tour. Two shows were filmed and released: this one (the Gdansk concert) and the concerts in the Royal Albert Hall (released as 'Remember That Night'). Both are available on Gilmour's youtube channel. He plays his solo album, which is fantastic, and Floyd classics. Both shows are very close in terms of setlist and quality, but IMO 'Remember That Night' is overall the best one. It has a cleaner sound, a better light show and the band plays a bit tighter. Plus it has guest appearances from Crosby & Nash and David Bowie.
Nice, so I have 2 tours from that era to indulge in eventually!
I’ve watched these Shows on the Channel too and they are awesome as always.
🎶❤️🎶
My favorite thing I would say> Take a trip and Never leave the Farm! Head music!
Because of the obvious reverence paid to Rick during this recording, I once believed they knew he was ill and gave him a proper send-off, but this show was recorded in '06 and Rick's cancer didn't rear its ugly head until about 16 months later, so unless it was just kept private for as long as possible, it was sheer luck that they were able to commit this to film. I can't imagine a more fitting and touching tribute in hindsight. Also, I STILL can't tell which of them is singing the higher register in their harmonizing, can you or anyone..? SO perfectly blended! Thanks for doing this Gilmour solo performance, there's plenty more where that came from (I recommend the "Live at the Meltdown Festival" set for a more intimate, stripped back vibe with lots of PF, some Syd covers, and even a touch of French opera!), and of course there is all of Roger's solo concerts too...if you dare to kick that political hornet's nest. That is John Carin on keys, and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music fame on guitar.
Some things just happen for a reason....meant to be...
11:16 Yes, this section was extended in a way too much better than the original recording. It's a musical conversation between Richard and David and one of the best recorded.
Thanks Javier...
From Gdansk there are some fantastic versions of Floyd songs like a great day for freedom, coming back to life, fat old sun, high hopes, comfortably numb...
But an even better concert of his solo tour is remember that night where you can witness an Epic comfortably numb version with David Bowie and imho the most intimate Shine one you crazy diamond with Crosby & Nash, amongst many others...
Seconded on all points. Fat Old Sun in particular is the single best modern revamp of an obscure early track in my opinion, followed by his cover of Syd's Dominoes from the Meltdown Festival.
Same year right? 2006?
@@retroreactions.... yes, ruclips.net/video/WClLSPK8Yec/видео.html
Haha, fat old sun....no clue what direction that song goes in...
@@retroreactions.... I'm excited for you to dip into some of the older Floyd. You do have quite a few stylistic shifts to experience with this band that never ever stopped evolving from a beginning that you can't possibly predict yet, given what you have heard so far. It may be tonal whiplash at first - as I've tried to prepare you for without robbing you of the joy of discovery - but once you have a broader picture of their career I am confident you'll appreciate them even more.
For me, the Best version of Echoes in this tour is on The concert Remember That Night!!! Echoes is more than perfect...
This tour 2006 is wonderful.. but ... David Gilmour live in Pompeii is much better... try many songs from Pink Floyd on this tour... perfect
So 2016 right? Thanks for watching Paulo!
Fantastic reaction. It makes me happy to see people discover and taking a deep dive into this band.
If you don't have enough of it, I recommend the video Echoes & 2001 A Space Odyssey which has PF Echoes played over the final 24 minutes of this classic Kubrick movie. Absurdly synchronous.
Regarding live performances, I'd recommend listening to the album first to enjoy the additional magic after that.
Thanks so much Willem-Jan for the info and for watching!
I love your enthusiasm, and your choices of the classics! You've still only scratched the surface, though. I have a list that I made up for reactors of my favorite artists, (50's-70s), and some examples of their songs. Hope you enjoy: Pink Floyd's 'Echoes.' And 'Comfortably Numb', (live at 'Pulse'). Leonard Cohen, king of poetic folk- 'Suzanne', 'Dance to the end of love'. Johnny Cash- 'I've been everywhere' and 'Ring of Fire'. Martin Denny- 'Quiet Village' and 'Exotica'. Moody Blues- 'Nights in White Satin' and 'Legend of a Mind'. Supertramp- 'Goodbye Stranger' and 'Even in the Quietest Moments'. Rush- 'Freewill' and 'Xanadu'. Frank Zappa- 'I'm the Slime', 'Pink Napkins' and 'Inca Roads'. Steely Dan- 'Deacon Blues' and 'Green Earrings'. Led Zeppelin- live versions from the TSRTS concert, ('Dazed and Confused', and 'Stairway to Heaven'), ELO- 'Livin' Thing', 'Twilight' and 'Tightrope'. Yes- 'Wonderous Stories', 'Awaken', and 'I've Seen all Good People'. Blood, Sweat and Tears- 'God bless the child', and ''Go down gamblin'. I can't stop! Astrud Gilberto- 'The girl from Ipanema' and 'Agua de Beber.' Also, groups and artists like ELP, CCR, The Doors, Bob Dylan, The Bee Gees, the Beatles, (of course). Renaissance, the Who, (Tommy), and Jethro Tull- 'Sossity,' 'Songs from the Wood'.
This is the last time it was performed live at all. David refuses to play it without Rick.
Oh yes, I meant to add that to my overstuffed comment, glad you did! So beautiful the love David had for his musical partner and dear friend.
its now played by pink floyds drummers band nick masons saucerful of secrets, good version of it too
What a note they ended its run on...
@@kevinohara2618 Yes, but not by David.
Yeah, this isn't technically Pink Floyd, but these years, from 1985 and on really,... Pink Floyd was only three people, Gilmour, Wright and Mason, so two thirds of PF is in this video playing in Gdansk.
Roger Waters, a founding member and main lyricist of Pink Floyd, quit the band in 1985, the band Pink Floyd, simply stayed as three. Pink Floyd has always used other musicians and singers when touring, so when Waters quit the band, Guy Pratt was hired to replace him on bass and vocals. Most likely on an interim basis, but they kept him on.
Incredibly, he has been with them ever since!
Even this past year 2022, Pratt played with "Pink Floyd", ( PF is just Gilmour and Mason now), releasing a single, with a popular Ukrainian singer, in support of Ukraine.
It's called "Hey Hey Rise Up", here's a link if you're interested. Gilmour is 76 years old, and Mason is 78!
ruclips.net/video/saEpkcVi1d4/видео.html
Yeah he knows & mentions that halfway through. He might invalidate this assumption, but given the challenges of navigating the algorithm, I think he made the best possible choice using the PF name in the title and intro. Gilmour's name holds little to no cache outside fandom. As for the rest, well said! :-)
I believe that Gilmour’s daughter-in-law and her family are Ukrainian…..so a close connection to that cause. Roger Waters saying it’s basically the West’s and Ukraine’s fault must infuriate Gilmour.
I think I saw him discuss that in a recent interview about his daughter in law..
Thanks Scozz, I did add Gilmour in the title and will just leave it there. I think I'll watch the link now, I mean a new PF song, that's EPIC and extremely rare I know...
How many keyboard tracks are played almost exclusively on the black keys?
Should you wish to delve back further in time, pre "Echoes", you should give "Atom Heart Mother" a listen. It was their 5th studio album and was released in October 1970. Roger Waters and David Gilmour are a bit disparaging about it, but I think that was aimed more at Side 2 which followed their previous double album "Ummagumma" in having tracks recorded by each individual member with varying degrees of success (or failure). Nevertheless "A H M" reached No 1 in the British album charts, as well as having success in other parts of the world. The main track was "Atom Heart Mother Suite", one of the first Rock Band with Orchestra pieces ever recorded, and in my view one of the best, to many Floyd aficionado's, myself included, it's right up there among their finest works. I've included a RUclips link to the 23 plus minute "Suite" below. The Album cover was notable too in that it was the first of their albums not to feature their name, band members or track listings on the cover. I remember reading a comment from some wag saying "that cow has achieved more in life than I ever will, how very true!
ruclips.net/video/Fku7hi5kI-c/видео.html
On my list! I love orchestra combined with rock. I assume the 23:41 Spotify version is the same. That's what I use to listen..
Allora cosa ne pensi ,sono o no eccezionali . Nel finale Gilmour e Wright
Commoventi sembra che si parlino.
Grazie.
Oh sì, molto perfetti insieme! Uno dei momenti musicali più speciali su un palco. Grazie per la visione!
No one reacts to this version thx
Glad you liked, thanks Kelly!
