I've been subscribed to this guy for less than a year and every time I have an issue and look it up it always leads me back to this channel. Thrill is an absolute LEGEND.
I've been using this same method for full body tracking for about a year now thanks to Artsy's tutorial. Works pretty great! I'm really thankful that the VR community got together to make the programs needed and it was nice to see that you made a really nice and easy to comprehend video on how to do the set up as well! Hopefully this will show people with Rifts, S, and Quest can do full body as well!
Awesome tutorial! Some extra key points: - Make sure your Oculus is connected and linked to the PC when installing, as this could speed up the process, immediately letting you know if your base stations are properly working. - Make sure to ONLY use the specific cable that came with each separate base station. If you accidentally used the wrong one, you will need to search for the method of resetting base station, which involves deleting the bin file in the firmware and copying over the rescue files inside steamVR's lighthouse folder. - Make sure that if you select slow or very slow that you actually move your controllers slowly. One likely problem: Since the Oculus doesn't connect via bluetooth, steamVR will not connect the base stations to your headset, preventing you from utilizing the power management system, forcing you to manually unplug the base stations.
Thrill at the beginning: The only good way to do full body tracking is with a base station tracked headset with three vive pucks Thrill 30 seconds later: So in this video, you will need base stations and 3 vive pucks
Why can't Oculus make a product where it has VR but also the capability of tracking your body without all this crap 😭 Like I heard the Rift S used to need external sensors (for some Reason Idk why-), so like why don't Oculus do something like that-?
I use the same method for full-body, some notes sometimes you will need to recalibrate the trackers, but all in all, it works great and is a blast for those who can afford it. Nice video by the way.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I WAS HAVING A MENTAL BREAKDOWN BECAUSE I COULDNT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE BASE STATIONS WORKING OR TO GET THE TRACKERS CALIBRATED! you are a lifesaver!!
They should work I know people can use base stations with index controllers with the g2. I only have a first gen wmr headset so hopefully in the future I can get some base stations and tracking bucks.
NOVEMBER 4 UPDATE If you're looking to do this scuffed version, do know it has HUGE road bumps with a lot of troubleshooting when it comes to installing JUST the base stations. In order to make it work, period, make sure the stations are plugged in. With this in mind, make sure you also sync up your Vive trackers. This is actually shown in the video-- go to add controllers, activate pairing mode, and it should pop up. Now, with the stations on the walls plugged in (with a green light), and the trackers turned ON with the dongle in your computer, the base stations *should* appear in the SteamVR interface. From here, you'll be able to rightclick and update firmware. When he mentions "Edit the files", in the beginning, it seems to have broke on a recent update that makes it that SteamVR doesn't care about overrides in the files. By activating the Vive tracker and causing it to be tracked, it forces the options of the Base Stations to appear and track. The first edit, "Require HMD" would've allowed "turn on bluetooth" to appear within the settings, but because it's been patched, bluetooth settings will not work or appear (considering you're using an Oculus, not HTC headset). From here, do your calibrations with OpenVR, and you should be fine. I have no solution to allow bluetooth to be enabled and visible by SteamVR, but tracking still works. NOVEMBER 13 Update After weeks of troubleshooting, the EASIEST way to get help is by checking the calibrator GitHub’s page. There’s a lot of FAQ along with an active Discord that’ll help people’s set ups work. A lot of the issues I’ve listed are on the GitHub’s FAQ and Discord.
I know this isn't exactly related to the post, but could you help me out with the problem the video is addressing around 7:46? I've installed OVR Advanced Settings and copied the suggested bindings, but these bindings don't seem to change anything in VRChat when calibrating.. And I'm unsure where to start to troubleshoot
Ok i finally figured it out. When he made this video playspace mover would move your tracker balls, it doesn't anymore. You have to go into vrchat launch options through properties and enter "--legacy-fbt-calibrate"
I love my quest, I swear by it. I will be doing this method cause once a new headset comes along, I wouldn't need to worry about buying any of these again either. Kinda future proofing. Great video!
I was debating the on the costs and this made me go :o These things are what I'd be getting to go with other vr headsets anyway. My thought process hadn't gotten that far before I read this so thank you lol
I Am commenting late because comments moved also I can’t afford this sort of thing which is sad but yeah you are still cool which is nice and I will like the video I really hope you get to one million subscribers at least by twenty twenty one!
You can buy virtual desktop. I recently bought it and it's really worth it. I bought it because I didn't really like the oculus link and this application is better and wireless and it's only 20 dollars so it's really worth it when you're on the oculus quest
This was so helpful!! You had my exact setup and helped me work through the tracker problem! Sadly, I spent around 4 hours yesterday trying to figure it out. This is the only source that has walked me through the problem, thank you!! 👍
Thank you for the tutorial, took me a bit not knowing I shouldn’t have had all dongles plugged in at the same time while pairing individually. But I’ve had fun with the time I tested it!
Ok, being new to this it took me a while to figure it out, but the base stations won't get recognized until you sync the trackers to it. Then you do the update on everything. Seems to work on my Quest 2 so far.
Edit: Base station was plugged in to the wall outlet and running like normal(A if only 1 station B & C if two) then I did the button thing with the tracker(hold down till it blinks then let go and it should turn green). Then I plugged both into the computer and updated them. It's been a while so my memory is bad, but I know it took me a bit to figure it out.

I want to confirm this is a Great Guide, I have an Oculus Rift S, and I recently bought Full Body things: 3 Vive Trackers (2018) 1 HTC Vive 1.0 Base Station (initially to test) And a Tracker strap kit I followed this guide to the point and as a Result: Full Body Tracking WORKS even with one base station (will buy another eventually). Great to hear dude, I will have the same setup! Is the setup you've done a one time and forget, or is it every time you launch? (The calibration) Thank you in advance!
@@cheeseboy8858 Yuh, after a while I figured it out. I got the 2.0 base stations and 2.0 straps. The base stations connect wirelessly to the dongles once you plug em in **and** turn on a tracker. Also with the 2.0 base stations, you NEED to change the channels by pressing the very very small button on the back of one of the base stations.
This was the only google indexed search result for the OpenVR space calibrator when searching "oculus + vive tracker", everything else led me to OpenVR Input Emulator, which appears to be broken since 2018. Thanks ThrillSeeker!
I have 7 weeks free time during summer break, and after doing some research I found that the Index was the best choice for me. But just when I was about to order one I saw that it would be shipped in 8 or more weeks... I don't have that time. But I still want full body tracking. Now that I know that I can get FBT with the Quest it really looks like a compelling option :)
For people who can’t see OpenVR Advanced Settings or Space Calibrator on the SteamVR dashboard: go to your graphics card (Nvidia/AMD) control panel and add those two programs to your list of shown programs on your computer. Make sure each program is running with high graphics instead of integrated graphics and press apply. If you did it correctly, it should allow you to see the programs in SteamVR dashboard. You can also right click on the programs and run them with high graphics, but this will require you to open both programs like this every time, so it’s easier to change it in your control panel where the change is permanent :)
I just handed out a thumbs up to you! I only do that if you ether make me laugh really hard or you made my life easier in some way, shape, or form and you definitely did thank you!
I have a rift s and the base stations 2.0, ive been trying to connect my base stations through steam vr but when i look at "pair controller" my base station doesnt pop up
UPDATE: Steam vr just recently updated their software space calibrator wasn't working try to this again step by step update space calibrator 1.1 or just do the guide again it should work
You could also do Nolo VR as an alternative if you’re not willing to spend around $500, works roughly the same, only downfall is 180 tracking, but for me, it works very well
After getting all of the parts 2 Base station 1.0s 3 Vive Trackers 2.0s FULL BODY WORKS GREAT WITH RIFT S I just wish my waist tracker didn't drift so much...Its most likely because im in a small play space but still.
If you have the 1.0 base stations and intend to use them wireless for the syncing, set them to B and C. If you need to use the sync cable, set them the A and B. I don't know about the 2.0 base stations.
A tip if you want to make lighthouses sleep , there is a app you can use on phone to make them sleep > Lighthouse Power Management < since im on Rift s i cannot put them to sleep without this app
Bluetooth is not required. All you need to do is turn the base stations on, set them to the right channel (on 1.0 one station should be on B and the other should be on C), mount them to your wall, then follow the rest of the video. When you connect the first tracker it will automatically connect the base stations. Hopefully this helps
Thanks had to go with this method because my valve index controller decided to break on me and had to get it sent back, while I was just wanting to test out my full-body that I just got.
FOR THE OCULUS QUEST 2 USERS THAT ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE 2.0 BASE STATIONS NOT SHOWING UP ON STEAMVR. My issue was that my base stations 2.0 wouldn't show up on the SteamVR. I was on this problem trying to find a solution for 8 HOURS when the answer was simple. Make sure that your base stations are on, but the first thing you want to do is make sure one of your trackers is on, and you're set up and ready to go. With the 2.0, I didn't have to plug it into the pc to have it update. Turn on your trackers and make sure they are connected to SteamVR the same way that ThrillSeeker did. Once that is connected, make sure you're in view of the base stations, put it on your body, and just move around a little. The base stations should eventually pick it up and appear on the SteamVR if you did it correctly. I looked for a solution to his issue for 8 hours and managed to figure it out when I gave up and just tried to play to see what happens. Base stations 2 need to have something to track be picked up on SteamVR. I really wish they included this information somewhere that everyone could see.

Hope this helps!
As someone that had to spend a LONG time setting this crap up (and by that I mean I tried, failed miserably, then came back to it days later and finally got it) lemme say some things for people using this in 2021! 1. Be VERY VERY VERY VERY careful about updating your base stations. To be honest, I wouldn't even recommend it they work fine without updating. I updated one of them and it broke. Apparently, there is a chance that the base station update will fuck up its firmware and make your base station basically unusable. And, even though there is a "fix" by steam themselves, it did not work for me. Apparently it not working is very common. It just blinks green and doesn't connect.Thankfully I only have 180 tracking at the moment anyway because I only have one oculus sensor (forgot about that lol). Just be careful! I'm still very upset. Too scared to update the trackers too.. UPDATE: the fix ended up working after trying it a third time. still would rather be safe and choose not to update lol. 2. You don't need to do anything with the base stations and steam vr in general. Just put them up, plug them in, and pair your trackers. It'll automatically find them! 3. I'm pretty sure the steam version of OVR Advanced Settings doesn't work once you download playspace calibrator. If you have that version, uninstall it and use the Github version. Just wanted to let people know as I'm sure knowing this would of saved me a sea of trouble. Everything else was accurate/helpful but I'll update if I remember things. Good luck and happy VRing!
I got a question for you, whenever I click devices>pair controller to pair my tracker, it says "no pairable devices detected. It has worked in the past, but I had to restart my computer and this message showed up. You got anything?
Be sure your vive tracker is seen by the base stations. The base stations will only show up in SteamVR if they detect a steamvr tracked device. Also, the base stations should be plugged into a wall outlet not your pc.

This is a bit late from me (and yes I know it a joke but ima tell you the reason it runs good) when you use the oculus link on your pc your pc then is In charge of graphics and frames
Why am I watching this? I can't afford trackers. I barely afforded the Quest. I don't even need tracking because I don't play games with avatars. But I still somehow want to remember every single step here 'just in case', like the trackers and stations and Link cable will just drop from the sky and suddenly be available.

Lastly, make sure your Oculus sensors and base stations aren't on a shelf or something facing each other because if you let them blast infared at each other, it can cancel each other out and make neither work as good

THANK YOU SO MUCH I'VE BEEN WANTING FULL BODY TRACKING ON MY QUEST FOR 5 MONTHS NOW AND I FINALLY HAVE IT!!!
Awesome tutorial! Some extra key points:
- Make sure your Oculus is connected and linked to the PC when installing, as this could speed up the process, immediately letting you know if your base stations are properly working.
One likely problem: Since the Oculus doesn't connect via bluetooth, steamVR will not connect the base stations to your headset, preventing you from utilizing the power management system, forcing you to manually unplug the base stations.
i also keep loosing tracking because of the
base station and because of that i have to play in a pitch black room
Thank you I was kinda confused with how do I connect the base station to the computer and Im still confused but I think u answered it??
Thrill at the beginning: The only good way to do full body tracking is with a base station tracked headset with three vive pucks
Thrill 30 seconds later: So in this video, you will need base stations and 3 vive pucks
Why can't Oculus make a product where it has VR but also the capability of tracking your body without all this crap 😭 Like I heard the Rift S used to need external sensors (for some Reason Idk why-), so like why don't Oculus do something like that-?

NOVEMBER 4 UPDATE
If you're looking to do this scuffed version, do know it has HUGE road bumps with a lot of troubleshooting when it comes to installing JUST the base stations.
NOVEMBER 13 Update
After weeks of troubleshooting, the EASIEST way to get help is by checking the calibrator GitHub’s page.
Thank you so much for this comment you literally helped me out after an hour of two of confusion!!
My OVR worked fine before, but now they stopped working with FBT
I've been having the same issue for almost 2 years now. Insane. I'm almost ready to accept I wasted my money

Bluetooth is not required. When you connect the first tracker it will automatically connect the base stations. Hopefully this helps
