I worked next door to comp in the late eighties. Let’s see your first “spintron” which was driven by a small block Chevy. I think all they used it for was longevity testing. Anyway, those guys were GREAT neighbors for a young gear head mechanical engineering student. LOVED talking to those guys and watching them do their R&D. An this video... watching the spring jumping up and down and spinning around at 5:12 literally gave me chills. That was so cool. Keep up the good work. I’ve ALWAYS had really good success with your products. Built right here in Tennessee USA!!!

The cycle from test to grind to test and how fast you can do that is impressive. How to maintain your spot as the industry leader for years to come.

That last clip of it running back and forth from 4,000 - 6500 rpm was awesome!

It literally does that on a million cycle test for hours. Lots of great data for our engineers to peel through to see where they can improve. Its a really good tool.

@@Compcams1976 Great tool and the sound is awesome. I would have never believed the engine's valve train made up that much of the overall engine noise.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! If you’re a gear head and that doesn’t give you chills, go to the doctor. Somethings wrong!!!

I'd love to see Comp run our NHRA Stock Eliminator big block Chevy stuff on the Spin Tron. We all know that with tool steel cams and lifters, with 250# seat pressure, and 550# open pressure, on flat tappets that we spin well past 8200RPM, what we're doing is truly stupid. I'd love to see the Spin Tron show us how truly stupid what we're doing to the valvetrain really is.

If you have done it. Can you show pneumatic valve springs on the Spintron. When will they be affordable ?

I'm curious to know if there has been significant change to cam profile shapes from all of this testing data and valve spring shape

Wasn't the late Great Smokey Yunick the daddy of the Spintron?

But what about turbo backpressure acting on the exhaust valve fillet? Does that contribute to valve float?

I have a curious mind and very much appreciate Comp Cams sharing the knowledge. Basically this spintron video just got my appetite wet oh, I would like to hear more about the details of exactly what you're testing, I noticed the pictures of valve springs and valve stem Flex as well as watching for valve bounce on the seat. However if you could go into more detail about what exactly is going on in those videos, as well as how you get the videos. As I understand that valve opening and closing seems slow but you're taking selective shots to give it a more antimated illustration. A little more explanation about that process. I would completely enjoy the education. You guys there at comp see it on a daily basis, but the General Public does not, so we need a more in-depth explanation and more video. Keep them coming. Thanks

The Spintron is used to test and evaluate all aspects of the valvetrain. We can use high speed cameras to record and help give a visual to the data that is recorded from the different types of sensors we use on the components we are testing. Its an extremely useful tool that helps us develop new products quickly and efficiently. Thanks for watching!

Can you test the " real world " harmonics on the valve train? With the engine fully assembled?

The last spintron is a full on one that spins the fully built engine right? I’d imagine you’d have both.

    Few questions:
You guys ever run a setup with a wet sump setup with the distributor?
Do you have the ability to take data and simulate the track? Such as on a dirt modified where the tires are loading and unloading pulling the engine down, rughrarararaahhaahaaaa kinda thing?
What's the going rate range nowadays? I recal some years ago it was around 2k a day.
Worked at a shop that had a spintron from old Nascar days. Unfortunately it was a very glorified alternator tester and didn't get valvetrain r&d while I was there. Look forward to doing development some day.

    • @Compcams1976
      @Compcams1976  4 года назад

We can simulate all sorts of different track types and common situations that an engine finds itself in during those events. Any testing needed with the distributor in place is done on the dyno.
