Over thirty years now. Hoyt first-5, the bowtec next back to hoyt. Newest hoyt three years ago, loud snap almost at full draw. No one could find it. Happened at 20-30 shots. This was a new bow. Returned it. After trying many, I bought a V-3 Mathews. It so outperformed everything. This is my first Mathews. I am so very impressed with this bow.

Shocker...? It is always a Mathews with elk shape. We all predicted the outcome. I do like MFJJ though. I have been a prime guy for years, but after shooting all the bows, one thing was for certain the Hoyt has the best draw and a way better grip than the Mathews. I have never been a fan of Hoyt but I did end up buying one because i thought it was the best bow out there. I quit chasing a brand!

While I haven't looked at the v3x, I personally have and love my Ventum 33, shot side by side with a V3 33 for a few weeks and just couldn't come to be comfortable with the Matthews. I really wanted to like the v3 more, but the draw cycle, balance and feel to me was mushy. Speed and sound was really impressive on the v3. To bad the Ventum 33 @ 84 lbs won my vote... but to each their own. Bottom line, shoot them all and make your own choice. Chances are you're gonna love whatever you buy especially if your current setup is 5+ years old

Same process I just went through. Quickly narrowed to a V3X, Ventum 33 Pro, Prime Inline 3. If I had picked after one shot, the initial pick would have been matthews. But, shooting for a couple of hours total, the back wall just started to reveal how mushy and ill defined it was. Not gonna work for holding on an animal waiting for the shot. The prime felt jumpy and the Ventum just got better the more I shot it. She came home with me. The lesson isn’t the bow, it’s to SHOOT THEM and stop looking at logos/brands.

Tons of great lessons and insights unrelated to the bows themselves during this video. It was between the Ventum Pro 33 and V3X 33 for me... can't go wrong either way. For that reason, I came back a second day and did a head to head fresh and the V3X took it.

As someone who owns both Mathews and Hoyt the only issue I have with this is once he seen how much she loved the Hoyt he started to verbally nudge her towards the Mathews. So much so he started commenting his own negative views/thoughts on the Hoyt while she was holding it. And then praised the Mathews while she held the Mathews.
You can definitely tell especially in 2nd half of review he was pushing her to the Mathews.
Either way I’m a big fan of both brands and that’s why I own both V3X and Ventum Pro. Congrats to her for her choice!

I was torn between the two, But ended up going with the v3x 29. The deciding factor just ended up being there was no shop in my area that sold Hoyt gear. The store is a large mathews dealer and most familiar with the brand, So that's just what I figured would be the smartest choice.

The next bow she liked was the Eva Shockey & the 1st MXR ,,, well,, she didn't like it while shooting it blindfolded.. . . The bow will pick you & the 305 picked her !!! Didn't feel any improvement although I know they improved upon your ability to work on your bow in the field. Shot the hoyt and loved the draw cycle/grip as well as the balance. Ended up going with the hoyt rx7 30". My lady told me I had better like it because I will not be upgrading for a while😅.

I personally think Hoyt makes the best bow all around today, and for many years. They've had a couple brain farts but overall, well constructed bows. I'm still still shooting the PSE EVL 32 from 2021 when Hoyt went binary. But it's high time I move back to Hoyt. For Mathews ? I simply can't see what everyone likes about the draw cycle and the high points Mathews builds into the cam's to provide more axle @ full draw toreduce string pinch for longer draw people. They weigh the riser down beyond anyone's else's riser to give the no kick after the shot, which I think is what attracts Mathews shooters. I'm not a fan of the Mathews, and them not making 80 pounds, puts them to the side for me. 75 pounds vs 80 is a difference.

So this is definitely a good process of helping someone pick a bow. And I think this is one of the most thorough ways i have seen. However, I have never understood why pro shops do not have shooters try the bows out in multiple positions??? I mean when your in the real world hunting one encounters countless positions and foot positions and stances and postures. For example i have helped multiple people decide on bows and I always have them try a normal stance and an opens stance and a closed stance when standing. In addition, i have them shoot sitting down and kneeling because all of those are real world scenarios for shooting. And each position has a different feel and posture. And i even have people who are trying to determine what draw weight they should start at have them sit flat on the ground in a long sitting position(feet and legs outstretched in front of them and then have them try and pull the bow. People are always surprised at how difficult it is to do this and control and well ultimately if i cannot pull the bow back in this position with bending and weaving and pointing the bow to the sky or twisting the neck then u probably should not start at that draw weight until your stronger or can handle it better. So those would be the only thing i would add to their format on shooting to help a person really see what bow fits them the best. Other than that everything else is excellent

I have not purchased a new bow in over 12 years. Still shoots great. I have taken over 30 bull elk in the field in the public lands mostly in Washington State. If you got the money to buy a new bow ever year that is great. Personally, I shoot a longer axle to axle bow to reduce wrist torque. I have only taken three bulls standing but most have been taken on one knee or both knees bending my body around trash or a tree.

They are simply not there, not even at the importer!
I finally ordered a Bowtech SS34 purely on what I could deduce from your RUclips videos!
Can be tuned yourself because also a left sight or arrow rest does not have these must be ordered first.
I hope I like the compound bow, but it's a leap of faith here.

The Mathew grips are usually very comfortable, but they are not the best for accurate shooting and that is why so many remove the grips on their Mathew bows and either shoot it without the grips or they get aftermarket grips that are much better than the standard ones.

So weird about the same process figuring out my bow to me I could hold the Hoyt on target more comfortably than the Matthew's.
Also found the slight wiggle at the beginning of the draw to be more helpful than the wiggle at the back end of Mathews , Just found the pin settled faster with hoyt. Oh and Hoyt seemed slightly quiter when having to shoot a little further at Animals figured that as a plus. The balance of the Hoyt was the first thing that was a smack in the Face, compared with all the bows I tested. Easy to hold full draw , but also seemed to me that it moved the least amount at full draw and actually found that the, bowtech held better than Matthew's also. It took me 3 different trips to the archery shop to decide between the Matthews and Hoyt Ventum 33, I took alot of things into consideration, but eventually ended up with Hoyt,
Just thinking mostly about hunting situations, the way the pin seem to move the least , hold time , for those stubborn Animals that stop behind brush for a min or two . So anyway Think everyone who bow hunts is going to have to just choose based on personal preference. Happy hunting everyone and good luck this year!

switched this year from my VXR 31.5 to an Rx7. Booth have bad and good things . I like these front loaded feeling on the Hoyts a tiny little more. Its easier for me to let it down and dont initial shakey wgen it drops in the Valey. But still booth are great Brands 🤘🏼

MFJJ, if I understand right would the vibration even be a point of interest if it’s in the way we grip the bow. Why would we have that as a metric in determining which bow we would get?

Nice final two bow shoot off! I ended up with Mathews as well. And thought it was going to be Hoyt. Nice work Timmy! Keep coming out with great ideas like this! Please do a follow up video of Cassey hunting Elk this fall! Get more woman into shooting & hunting! Great job!

Why not the Prima? Of the Mathews it’s better for the shorter DLs. When my daughter compared it to the Eva it was over 15fps faster than the Eva.

This is the same way I selected my bow. Waiting for it to arrive. Ventum pro and v3x were my final 2, and the mathews came out on top for me. Honestly they all shoot better than my skill level. Also, if you notice her t-shirt, exo mtn gear...best hunting packs made. Mathews bow and exo pack, doesnt get better.

Can't go wrong with any of these bows. I did my process a little different. But everyone is different and looks for different things in bows. I went with a bowtech solution because to me it shoot the best and felt the best. Also the technology did played a factor.

  • @Bowhunterohio

I chose the same bow. Mathews V3X. I did change the grip and went with the Mathews side plates. Here is the thing. It wasn’t my choice or anyone else’s on what she picked. She chose what suited her the best. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes when it comes to a bow. You can even take two people that shoot the Mathews and they both probably chose that bow for two different reasons. Why? Because everyone is different in their own way. Some people are so dead set on one brand of bow that it just eats away at them when they see others go against their brand. Like who cares. She gets a great bow to hunt with this next bow season and that’s what matters. As for the viewers be happy with the bow that you shoot. If you love your bow and your brand then that’s awesome. It’s all about what you like not her. Isn’t that why we invest so much money into our bows. To make ourselves feel good. I know I didn’t go spend a lot of money on my Mathews bow because someone else told me to or because they said Mathews is better than Hoyt. I did it because that was my choice and I feel I made the right one. Isn’t that what really matters.

Yay! An educational archery video geared towards us few and far between female archery hunters! (But relevant to guys looking for a new bow) Thanks Kassy & MFJJ! Would like to see more geared towards the ladies, It's hard to find information that is pertinent to us! How about arrow weight & foc for us shooting lower draw weights? BTY, what kind of bow was Kassy shooting before deciding on her new bow?

Why does it feel like everyone doesn’t like Prime? I’ve watched multiple review videos and a ton of people say the Prime In-line isn’t good compared to other bows, I’ve shot all of those except the Hoyt, and the Prime is the most comfortable bow I’ve ever shot so I bought it lol.

I have owned pretty shot or owned all the brands are naming and right now.Normally I would say something because she didn't like the prime. But I don't blame her. I still shoot a 2018 prime rize. once they started making the cynergy and now the single track bows they have not been as smooth as the original dual track models like the rize, allow, etc. It's a perfect example of if it aint broke don't fix it.

Pretty cool process and what I would have wanted to do when I went to check out a new local shop. I was actually going to wait until about this time to do this, but when I stopped at that shop they had a PRIME Black 3 and a Mathew’s Halon 6 for $600-$650. I was actually going to look at the Hoyt Torrex XT as a replacement for my 2006 PSE Fire Flite 33, since I can’t afford those $1200-$1700 bows that you have there. But when I picked up the PRIME Black 3, it just held on target so well. Sadly with their 5 yard range inside an old dentist 🦷 office I couldn’t shoot.
If they had a VXR 31 (I believe that’s the taller of the two) and had a same year bow to compare to I may have went Mathew’s I may not, I won’t know since I asked the wife and brought home the PRIME. I like it, I just have to work on me, build some arrows and find a coach like MFJJ or Joel Turner to get my bow to its best potential.
Hard to pull a Mathew’s owner away from one that they are use to. Kind of like trying to convince an F-150 owner to go Silverado or RAM 1500 and especially Tundra and Titan.
Thanks for the nice video and I hope that she puts down some black tail and Roosevelt’s this season with her new bow. 🏹
