Been a Matthew's guy my whole life, don't see myself changing anytime soon. The stealth advantage is the biggest one for me, I tune my bows and practice relentlessly so I'm not as worried about my form or grip being off. Once I have the feel of the bow committed to muscle memory, I trust myself to hold true. But that feeling when a silent stick slips through a deer at 40 yards before it realizes it was even on the way, that is what it's all about for me. I really enjoyed the review!
I’m with you but curious to try Hoyt . I did years ago while looking for a lighter hiking bow but upon firing it’s like holding a explosion. Not a big deal for one shot but 50 shots a day wouldn’t be fun. Something different for everyone. Bows don’t matter it’s the hobby that does matter .
They are both amazing bows, he had to dig deep to give the edge to the Hoyt and I’m sure his personal bias paid a part.. either way if you can shoot almost any new mid to top tier bow is going to be fantastic..
Oh I guarantee there’s a relationship with Hoyt in some way still.. Not saying he’s dishonest and not saying I think there is anything wrong with that but he had to dig deep to find a reason to give it to Hoyt .. both bows are exceptional Hoyt’s are just so bad on hand shock..
Best bow comparison I've ever seen. You were thorough and very detailed. And you nailed all the key points that mattered for a bow HUNTER! I could care less about those paper shooters. I practice religiously with my bow and still be off my mark when shooting a giant buck. It's just the adrenaline, the cold, the nerves, maybe I'm rushing it, or the bucks taking forever to step out, everything that can go wrong WILL go wrong and the bow still needs to shoot lights out for me. You did a great job to keep the viewer engaged and your delivery was perfect. Please do more of these videos. Thank you!

I'm buying a 2021 too, not sure who yet but I think the amount of ppl that switched from hoyt to mathews cause of the vxr is why hoyts taking an extra 3 months compared to everyone else in the release of their 2021 models. Beyond excited to see what hoyts done
Really like how you broke this down, gives people a lot to think about if they are bow shopping. For me the back wall is huge and is why I favor my VXR over my last year's Hoyt. Also the best thing you can buy IMO for hunting accuracy which is akward positions and abnormal conditions is the BOWMAR nose button if you don't have one you really got to try it.
Very easy to understand why the Hoyt was more forgiving. The Axius Ultra is a 34" ATA bow with a 6 3/4" BH. This bow lends itself to be forgiving, especially for a long draw archer. These are also some of the reasons the VXR is so much faster.
I wonder how the Axius would stack up to one of Mathews longer bows like the Traverse with a 33”ATA and 6.625” BH. Thats the bow I went with because many with longer draw lengths preferred it over the VXR and Vertix.
@@ctfishing2021 The Traverse is a great bow. Possibly the best hunting bow Mathews has ever put out, IMO. I figure Bomar chose the VXR due to switch weight capability and the ability to get 75+lb.
@@BowmarBowhunting I was hoping someone would comment on that, as I didn't want to double post. I am assuming that is custom? I don't see that combo on their site.

Thanks for all your informational videos you do!! Keep them coming please. Your the reason I started bow hunting and its nice to know the way a taller person sets up the riggs!
@God's Com'n Yes the Atlas goes to 34 DL but the VXR which is what he is testing in this video only goes to 31 DL and he mentioned that his DL is slightly longer than 31.
They are all good bows! What's important is how your treated after you buy it. Cracked a limb on my Mathews. Sent to Mathews expecting to pay for a new one, new limb NO CHARGE ! My Hoyt riser snapped in half right above my hand hitting me in the face. Sorry nothing we can do about it ! Never will buy another Hoyt !!!
My limbs started to delaminate on on a Mathews MQ1 12 years after I bought it. Took it to Scheels sporting goods and they contacted Mathews. Mathews had new limbs for me, NO CHARGE !!! in two days which was awesome because bow season opened like 4 days later. Customer service matters. i wont look at another bow manufacturer.
Great video josh. Found a bottle of bowmar nutrition bcaas in my kitchen the other day and was a little confused, come to find out my wife also knows you guys. Couldn’t believe it. You and Sarah got quite the empire going!
Torque tuning is so important and I'm glad you brought it up... I was a staff shooter for PSE for a lot of years... invented the Jim Dandy bowhunter super tool back in the 90s to help tune bows and I learned a few things great video thanks... I'll stick with my carbon stealth 35... I mean it weighs 3.5 lb bare... strapped to my backpack I have to reach back to make sure it's still there...it's that light and shoots great
I still believe the Traverse is the best bow Mathews has made! Had 2 Hoyt Carbon bows and they creeped like a Mofo! Nice on the hand in cold weather though and light as a feather.
Much respect for Josh's opinion and insight... my 2 cents.. My 2020 bow, a Bowtech Revolt X for these reasons.. Smoothest draw cycle (by far), Tunability, Accuracy, Grip comfort, Rock solid backwall especially for cable stop (can hold it back forever).... many great bow manufacturers to choose from, but hard to top Bowtech lately, in my opinion.
Thank you for that in depth comparison. Most people focus on just the speeds and weights of the bow but you went into what really matters when buying a bow

Started with Mathews and haven't found anything that I like better or any problems that would cause me to change. Seems like Hoyt has lost a few folks over the last year or so......
Nice comparison and so true about the forgiveness of a bow being right up at the top of the list for a hunter. We don’t hunt in ideal situations and you need your bow to overcome situations in real life hunting scenarios.
Josh, thanks for putting this video together! Very professional, enjoyable, and well done. I like the way you break down each feature because it really makes one think about what is really important when choosing a bow. I think the great thing is that if you love Mathews and you choose them, then you win. If you love Hoyt and you choose them, you also win. Same with the other top brands. You did point out that a person with a 28" draw could get different results and this is 100% accurate. The best thing a bowhunter can do is shoot every bow they can get their hands on and then choose the one that fits them the best. Thanks for the video! Many of us enjoyed it and I would like to see the same comparison of two different brands of bows.
It looks like he’s comparing a vxr 28 to a rx3 which has an axle to axle of 30.5 which makes a huge difference... should have been done with the vxr 31.5 for a better comparison and would change the outcome on some of the problems
I wasn't even considering the 28 until I shot it on my 4th time of testing. It just felt way better to me. I dont shoot out west so it seemed like a perfect fit. I do however plan on practicing alot this winter out to 60 yds. So maybe regret will set in a bit? There all great bows in my opinion. I just went with what felt best in the end.
@@ernestodelao1601 yeah, i probably just need more practice. When I miss it is left or right, so just torquing hand I am sure. Have robin hood an arrow too.. does fly nice, fast and flat.
Things didn't go as planned thru the summer didn't shoot nearly as much as I wanted to. Getting a custom string put on ASAP then shooting more! I'll see wht happens at 60yds. Out too 30 I've never shot tighter groups!

Your not the only one
The reason I love Bowhunting so much is Becuase of that adrenaline rush
Go check it out tomorrow on my RUclips! I killed a huge doe and my dad smoked a big buck!
Very well said dude I agree with you. Thanks for the feedback
It looks like he’s comparing a vxr 28 to a rx3 which has an axle to axle of 30.5 which makes a huge difference... should have been done with the vxr 31.5 for a better comparison and would change the outcome on some of the problems
Its not a 28, I bought the 28 and almost regret it.
That's not a RX3 for starters
@@ernestodelao1601 yeah, i probably just need more practice. When I miss it is left or right, so just torquing hand I am sure. Have robin hood an arrow too.. does fly nice, fast and flat.
Things didn't go as planned thru the summer didn't shoot nearly as much as I wanted to. Getting a custom string put on ASAP then shooting more! I'll see wht happens at 60yds. Out too 30 I've never shot tighter groups!
I love my spyder turbo zt has been my dream bow for year. Josh you and your wife have got my kids in to bow hunting. And they can’t wait thank you so much for what you do keep up the great videos
That’s amazing man! Thanks for the support
It makes it so hard to pay attention with those crazy mounts in the background
Awesome video, great detail in each category really helps me decide what brand to go with for my new bow, and the video also got me through my cardio at the gym!! 😂
That’s awesome keep working hard!
Need to get a bowtech review as well. Bowtech really has it going on recently
Said no one ever haha
Really excellent video. Lots of good quality information.
Thanks!!
Your average bow hunter isn't torque tuning.
Then be a better bow hunter
@@theinnatechase6608 sorry best bow hunter ever 😂
They definitely aren’t. You can make the argument that if you’re an average bow Hunter you SHOULD torque tune to help with your inconsistencies.
@@jonathanperillo1795 I bet you 75% of the people that watched this don't torque tune.
Most just tune there bows and go hunt. Make sure center shot is good. Either bare shaft tune or paper tune and that's it.
Sitting at a 32.5” draw length, the Mathews Atlas was basically one of my only choices, but I’m SO happy with it. Being new to archery, I’ve stumbled into this channel and LOVE it. Thanks for the great content Josh!
Good to hear dude!
Hoyt double xl im a gaint my self 33.5 inch draw
Do a trophy room vid I would enjoy
Some day I will man, thanks!
Bro imagine if Hoyt and Mathews calaborated to make a bow together
I shoot a vxr. I like it a lot better than the rx4. I was honestly disappointed in the rx4.
Yeah hoyt suck pretty bad🤮🤮
Same love my 28
I’d be interested in seeing the results of a test on an RX4. I’m the same, just switched to a V3 from my RX4. Was never really happy with the RX4 way too temperamental.
The axius is like the Helix. Good forgiving bow
