Great info Nate, thank you for sharing. I always appreciate the word of honest people who actually put their hands on equipment. There are so many great choices out there but you were spot on stressing to shoot them all. From personal experience I would go even further and say shoot them all, but wait a week and shoot them all again. I have completely changed my mind and bought a different bow than the one I thought I was going to buy after going that route.

Absolutely love my Bear Legit RTH. Got it Dec ‘20. It’s a little on the small side (I’m 6’ but have really long arms) but other than that it’s a tack driver at 20-35 yards.
My whitetail legend I didn’t care for the spongey back wall. Then I found out it came with a limb stop! But the reviews said the legends are the best single cam back wall with the limb stop on the budget market side
Long time Bear owner (20+yrs), 1st time Elite owner. Had my Domain for 7 years, decided it was time for an upgrade. Went to a new shop in my area and shot the mid priced range ($600-$750) bows. Bowtech Amplify, PSE Drive NXT, Bear Whitetail Legend Pro, Hoyt Torrex & Elite Terrain. The Bear and Hoyt went back on the rack after 2 sets of 3, too much vibration after the shot and the draw cycles were a bit harsh on the Hoyt. The Amplify was a surprise as it was the cheapest of the 3 I had left to decide from and honestly felt really nice overall, I almost left with it. The PSE seemed way faster than advertised, was reasonably smooth, good back wall, was nice.....but the Elite edged it out. The Terrain & Amplify both felt great to me but that draw cycle on the Elite was butter like, the bow was light, and it just felt better to me in the end. The shop I went to, Outdoor Insiders in Gibson PA was fantastic. They setup all the bows to my DL and just let me shoot. When I had questions and wanted opinions they were right there for me. After 100+ shots the OD Green Terrain went home with me. The more I shoot it the more I like it. I couldve taken either of the last 3 home and been happy overall, but wow.....that Elite is a nice shooting bow (I'd still like to play with the other ones for fun). I watched your video and took your advice about shooting everything in my range, thank you. Next will be a flagship bow for me, Im interested in the differences overall.
If you want to see your bow on all the hunting channels and see it advertised everywhere you shoot Mathews. If you’ve shot a number of bows from each company you come to realize that they’re all making pretty much the same/great bows. Once limbs went parallel and the cable guides got revamped there hasn’t been much more to do to a compound bow - the technology plateaued about 10 years for the most part. They’re just changing axle to axle, brace height, specs etc. every year now to give us a reason to “need” a new bow.
I love the elite bows.. but I love my Mathews just a little more. It's Mathews 30th anniversary. I'm excited to see what they come out with this year. Nov 17 will be here soon!
You still have an amazing ability to educate us on different equipment and skills. On a side note-looks like you are testing paint colors on your house. Thanks for a great video.
The dog pecker gnats are so bad here in southeast Missouri that it makes shooting a challenge. In about 5 minutes, you will be running for some cover. And as for the back wall, I prefer the cable stop over the limb stop. The cable stop is like a stiff spring that pushes back against the archer giving some feedback on how much load they are creating. The ultra-hard limb stop wall doesn't allow for feedback and can be problematic to archers who are learning back tension and pulling into the wall. They can unknowingly overload on a really hard wall. Even though the hard limb stop may initially feel better, it doesn't mean it gives better shooting results. But that is something that the archer needs to search out and find for themselves.
The first year they came out, they had a very good drawing bowZ I remember shooting an expedition , elite and obsession side by side in 2015. Tough decision .
I went with the solution I thought YOLO and I love the easy tunability of it. Once you get used to shooting on performance it's great still going comfort while hunting though.

Bought a mission switch when I got back into archery last year. Shot it for a week an could not get used to that back wall (if you can even call it a wall). I returned it and put a little more money into a bow tech carbon icon. I love this bow, I have shot the nock out of several arrows and the back wall is SOLID.

Have had my Bear Species for 2 years, came as a ready to shoot package, great for me, may not be fast or flash enough for some people but I'm not hunting Buffalo
For my first bow I've brought the white feather riser 19' with 34' custom made wooden arrows, 3' feather flight and 100g bodkin points. I started at 10 yards, moved to 30 yards shoot at 50 yards now, will start doing 252 competition in new year. Might try at some date the Scroton Arrow competition.

Will be good to hand off to the kids as they grow too. Might get one for myself as well or try another but will test some out and see. Thanks
I bought a Bowtech Amplify in January and have been very with it happy. First New bow ever, and also first time I robin hooded an arrow. Have to point shoot now as almost guaranteed to have arrows hit each other if I make decent shots. Will have to say Manufactures didn't make it easy. Shot the PSE Drive and Hoyt Torrex also. Both were great but that limb stop on BowTech is what sold me back wall is just amazingly rock sold. Also it had a extra 100 dollar package that the shop had which had a drop away and nice quiver. Sight was kind of sad though but changed it out with a Trophy Ridge 5 pin and been shooting great.
I bought a new Enkore last summer, and never been able to tune it, even with the SET technology. Always tought something was wrong with it, but after a trip to the dealer ended up selling it. Went with the V3 and really love my bow!! Easy to tune with the Top Hats system and shoot great. Only downside like you mentioned is module based cam, but with switch weights technology I can live with that. Also been mentioned that module based cam are better at keeping cams peak performance. Don’t know if it’s true😅! Keep up your good work Nate!!
You just starting out but you like a flag ship bow do your home work 8:22 buy used or buy from bow shops they have left over bows from two three years ago they put them out for sale tip check for cracks on limbs and change bow string if you buy used always bring it too a professional bow Technician
I just got my first bow last week. Went to the pro shop New Beginnings Archery in Gettysburg, PA. I tried Bear and Elite while there. I ended up coming home with the Elite Basin RTS. I love how smooth it felt and the rock solid back wall like you stated. Hopefully I’ll get a deer with it this upcoming season!
Love your philosophy and appreciate your honesty! Wish you where in Texas I’d be buying a bow from ya! And I will be trying as many bows as I can to see which I like. It’s been many years since I’d shot one and I’m getting up in age (63) and my son had a Diamond he got off FB market for $150 and at 60# it was great I was rocking 🎯 at 20 yd (yes that’s close)but now I’ve got the itch to get back to it. You have a new subscriber! Have a fantastic day
Only problem that I'm finding with that logic, is finding dealers with left handed bows. Very few keep lefties on hand, many models I'd have to order in before trying. Working on it though, going to my 3rd proshop today
I have a Mathews MR8 ,bought new when they came out only thing i have done to it was a new string. I got the Halon X Comp when it came out but when season comes around its the MR8 that goes in the woods with me, the Halon X is back up bow.
What’s your opinion on the PSE Brute ATK? I had the NXT model in the RTH package and went to get work done on it when they took the serving off it looked like it had been cut a little bit. So I called PSE and they sent me the ATK in RTS package. Just wondering if it’s the same or a little better than the NXT
great video. I think it's funny how people get all defensive if the bow they own wasn't one of your top picks. i currently shoot a Hoyt Helix and really like it. I have also owned Prime, Elite, and Bowtech and they are all great bows. the smoothest most forgiving bow i ever shot was my Elite Hunter, wont ever get rid of that one.
I totally understand the aspect of wanting a rotating mod as a service tech, but from a buyers perspective a mathews can be adjusted weight wise in 5 pound increments and still be at prime efficiency... lots of people don't realize when you back out limb bolts to lower poundage you lose efficiency on the bow. With mathews mods you set draw length and draw weight simultaneously, all while keeping limb bolts locked down. That was a big plus to me and why i chose the vxr over other flagship. Most flagship are similar in shootability these days. I have 3 sets of mods for my bow depending on what poundage I want to shoot 65, 70 and 75. P.s. swapping the mods are super simple, no bow press needed. 2 screws
I see the angle. Just some background and clarity though... 1. The "bow is only efficient when maxed out" is a long forgotten time. Bow of today have locked limbs, pockets, and much better tolerances on shims and axles. The limb bolts used to carry 100% of the load. Now it's carried across more pieces. Still majorly by the limb bolt. 2. Switch weight is just a fancy term for "underutilized limbs". If a bow peaks at 70, but you switch weight it to 60, the limbs are just being put under a difference force curve that limits flex and powerstroke. It's literally no different than taking a 70 pounder and winding the limbs back to 60. Still, I see the appeal I guess. But, like most bow companies, it's a pile of marketing more than magic dust.
@@averagejackarchery appreciate the feed back , in no way do I claim to be an expert.. only speaking from my short experience (3 years) but I have had other bows that when lowering poundage I would have to basically retune the bow. And with the vxr I honestly have not had to do that once after switching weights. To me that is a big part of the efficiency aspect. Only thing needed is to adjust sights (obviously)
I've been thinking hard about getting a new bow. I bought my buddies Elite Synergy 32 a couples years ago. It's a little on the slow side, but man do I love shooting this bow. It's so smooth, and just feels great to me.
Love your content and supported your new archery shop venture. Off topic, but that cover over your AC unit is actually hurting your system. It’s causing the air from the condenser fan to get pushed back into the unit (it’s accentually recirculating that air) . Especially during cooling. I think you will find the unit doesn’t run as much during those hot days if you would remove the cover.
The unit has been with the house since the late 90s to early 2000s. It's one dinosaur of a mini split system that cools the living room. Thankfully we don't need to run it all that much as the house is quite small and ceiling fans often do the trick. But thanks!
@@averagejackarchery No problem. I'm in Louisiana and because of our heat, it would be a big deal. Being in the HVAC business, I thought it was important to share. If you ever have to replace it, I recommend you consider removing the the structure then.
Mission hammr or switch for lower range, pse embark for mid and Matthews v3 and PSE Evo evl are what the pro shop I work at sells most and doesn't have problems with
Mission bow are not the same quality they used to be look at the ballistic the blaze and my favorite the voyager xt I’ve won 3d’s with that bow one of my favorite but this yr I think mission got cheaper
I have the xpedition x30 wanted the 33 but they were backed up had the DLX last year and loved it. A good mid bow is the amplify by bowtech 8-70lbs and the speed is great on it
Elite does have split limbs on all their bows starting in 2018 with the Ritual. I own a lot of their older models with the solid limb look. Very svelte looking though and I quite like that!
I’m going through the motions of buying a new bow this year. Looking at either an Elite Terrain, Bear Whitetail Pro or Alaskan. Any experience with those or issues I should be aware of?
I would say that I enjoy shooting my Bear Encounter single cam as much as my hoyt carbon spyder zt. It's so smooth and the backwall is a rock. Just a heavy bow that IBO at 315... Slapped a hamskea on it and a nice sight. Hits at 100 yards all day.
In my opinion buying a double cam bow for you first bow is superior. Why, because they put less stress on your shoulders. When your new to bows muscle in the shoulder aren't used to being flexed this much.
I wondering what u think about the new Inline series of bows w/o the parallel cam system? Perhaps the 7 different parts that make up the strings & cables has tainted shops & the people working on them. The Nexus 4 has a much smoother draw cycle than the CT-5 from just 2 years ago. I expect the Inline will get more interst but what will draw the interest when they made something similar to everyone else with the cable falling in the same line as the string as u come to full draw?
I started out with the Bear Cruzer G2 and so far i love it. i will upgrade for sure but for 500 Cad for a RTH that goes up to 70lbs i cant complain. Im sure i will take a deer with it this year.
I think when ever you're shopping bows ,you gotta do apples to apples. And try as many as you can, don't just go on popular opinion. Last time I bought a new bow I put a Hoyt nitrum 34, halon , reign 7 and a br33 up against each other and was actually surprised that the BR33 actually just worked better for me.
I LOVE my Bowtech Solution I bought in March of 2021 for the DeadLock cams, I really liked the draw cycle and it’s a beautiful bow. But I’m debating on maybe in the spring trading it in on an Elite Enkore. Nothing wrong with my Bowtech but the features and warranty/hunt guarantee from Elite really peaked my interest. Might have to take the shootability challenge
last yr was or daughter first bow...she shot a lot in the shop...didn't know shineola about an brand...she felt most comfortable with the mission Radik...She had it adjusted twice; poundage and draw length. She is a highly completive volleyballer, has grown an inch and a half.. Her last Archery practice she mentioned, she's not as comfortable with the bow...I have to wonder if its the spongy backwall... I'm in the market, for a brand new use flagship Bow....Once again, AJA has given me something to think about... Thanks again...
I am looking at the PSE Drive NXT for my first bow. Shot it a couple days ago but as a brand new archer I would like the opinion of a knowledgeable person who isn't trying to sell a bow.
What’s your opinion on the 2022 Bear Whitetail Legend Pro? That’s the one I’m pretty set on getting. Dual cam, either 3.5 or 3.9lbs, and a 6.25” brace height for $560. You can also add limb stops. This would be my first bow and don’t want something super cheap, and also not super expensive.
When I bought my first bow a few months ago I went in wanting the Hoyt torrex, found the bowtech amplify and I believe a bear legit, shot all 3 of them, ended up with the amplify. Haven’t seen much content on the amplify other than a few videos.
@@averagejackarchery I would create content but idk anything about archery, I still haven’t figured out the weight set up yet, I need to go to the range and shoot the ranch fairy kit. But need to paper tune with the kit first and figure that out first. Archery on a budget is frustrating lol.
I just bought the amplify today. I will be picking it up tomorrow. Keep in mind this is the first bow I’ve ever shot or purchased. Hopefully it does me a solid!
@@gainingaltitude1562 I’ve enjoyed mine so far. It maxed out at around 71#. I picked mine up early March of this year. And been hammering it out the last few months with upgrades. I’ve upgraded the sight, stabilizer bars, wrist sling, and drop away rest. It’s a good budget bow for someone to grow with. Hope you enjoy it!
@@averagejackarchery I might trade in my Halon32 for the VXR. I tested the 28 and the 31.5 and they’re both awesome. I’m about to flip a coin at this point. I was in Pennsylvania a week ago. Traveled to Blain to get a puppy from some Amish people out there. So much of that area is like trapped in time. It was beautiful. Made me realize what a shit hole upstate New York has become. Wow. We have old buildings like this too but they’re crumbling and not well kept.
Whats your opinion on Quest bows? I really like the smooth draw and the accuracy of these bows. I've had Diamond and Matthews as well and just gravitate back to Quest. I shoot them really well for shooting right handed and being blind in my right eye, no peep sight, with a Bowmar nose button. I have both the Amp and Thrive.
Quest gets ZERO hype and I think it's a crying shame. Their single cam Forge they made (maybe still do?) was a favorite of mine for a mid-priced budget bow. Their Amp and Thrive with the binary cam system also didn't get much love, perhaps due to their module swaps instead of rotating. Otherwise, G5 did some good stuff with the Quest lineup.
I have an old Elite Z28 bow, my local pro shop has an Elite Energy 35. I know this is all relative, but would you jump on that Elite 35 or save up to get say the Omnia which is another 500?
I am wondering why you like shooting an Elite Ember if it only has up to a 29-inch draw length? Didn't you say in your video that your draw length is over 31-inches?
Question what company do you think has the smoothest cam need an easy to pull back bow out front before the let off kicks in had shoulder surgery in February and don’t want to go to a crossbow yet thank you
Thank you for the info. I'm brand new and just started shopping. I have 24.5 draw length so I'm pretty limited on bows. I am strongly considering Matthews prima. I am text the Hoyt eclipse as a side by side comparison. May I get your input?
@@averagejackarchery thank you. I am liking it the best at this point. Going back to shoot them today. I primarily want to target shoot but also want hunting options. How much of the wiggle should I worry about? Most prima, reviews say it's very forgiving for target shots?
I was hoping you didn't put PSE in your top 3 high end bows. love how my EVL shoots but a lot of small QC issues for what you pay when compared to my mathews and bowtechs
Mission is alright. The back wall is absolutely atrocious for what you're paying for. Much rather see someone shoot a mid line Diamond or Bear over the Mission.

Can you review the Elite Basin . I’m looking to buy the it for next years bow season. Thanks
Have a fantastic day
I'm 25 and shoot the diamond infinite edge pro and I love it!! Very light and small very smooth aswell
Thanks for the info Jack. I just bought an elite tempo with a 32 inch draw length. Shooting easton aluminum arrows.
Shoot them all when picking a new bow. The bow will pick you!
I go in shoot a few differnt model hours and buy the one I like the best....no other bow is worth my time or money 🤣
We get it elite hands u free bows
Only problem that I'm finding with that logic, is finding dealers with left handed bows. Very few keep lefties on hand, many models I'd have to order in before trying. Working on it though, going to my 3rd proshop today
I have a Mathews MR8 ,bought new when they came out only thing i have done to it was a new string. I got the Halon X Comp when it came out but when season comes around its the MR8 that goes in the woods with me, the Halon X is back up bow.
Nice! I buy BEAR SPECIES LD a month ago. Its a good bow. Except a string slider which causes a damage my string and i change it for PSE roller.
I got a bear divergent EKO a couple months ago. I absolutely love it so far.
Us big guys are wildly appreciative of the Mathews Atlas. Been shooting it for 6 months now and am loving it. Great video as always.
I absolutely love my Atlas too!
I never considered Elite in the past, but the next time I shop I will defiantly try one. For now, I have a Bowtech and it's great.
I love your stuff, but I don’t think you understand switch weight technology. It is very underrated because most people don’t.
I have been known to shoot a prime but I would not recommend if you don't have a good prime dealer close to you, they are just a different beast
I’m very interested in nexus 4
I've been thinking hard about getting a new bow. I bought my buddies Elite Synergy 32 a couples years ago. It's a little on the slow side, but man do I love shooting this bow. It's so smooth, and just feels great to me.
Not owning a Synergy is one of the greatest travestys of my Elite buying love. 😭
I'm still shooting my PSE dream season evo from 2011 and I can't find a reason to get a new bow.
Thanks, Greg!
I’m using PSE DRIVE NXT 2021. What’s your opinion on that model
I have the xpedition x30 wanted the 33 but they were backed up had the DLX last year and loved it. A good mid bow is the amplify by bowtech 8-70lbs and the speed is great on it
Why does elite not have split limbs?
Elite does have split limbs on all their bows starting in 2018 with the Ritual. I own a lot of their older models with the solid limb look. Very svelte looking though and I quite like that!
Still got my Bear Escape, don't even know how old it is. Still shoots fine.
I really appreciate videos like this unbiased and just a general good starting point for newer archers.
I’m going through the motions of buying a new bow this year. Looking at either an Elite Terrain, Bear Whitetail Pro or Alaskan. Any experience with those or issues I should be aware of?
Thanks for the video! Do you have any experience with Liberty bow? I'm really considering small one, but I don't see that many reviews about this one.
Very new to bows and this has been incredibly helpful! Thanks brother, God bless!
That would be the Bowtech Convergence, not Divergent. Bear made a Divergent.
It's bowtech convergence not divergent... I think u got it confused with The bear divergent
I'm still using my 2019 bowtech realm ss. It's the most tunable bow I've ever had.
Really good advise, I was thinking of getting a new elite, I love my impulse but I’m thinking I’m might as well try the others. Thanks
The beardless archer
IT HURTS SO BAD
Keep it clean 🧼
Hi AJA, can you tell me what kind of part you have on the front stabilizer i mean this two rods there. Thanks and have a nice day. greetings
It's a Magnus Bowpod. No longer in production. However, I have a DIY modification. ruclips.net/video/42BdjCAFick/видео.html
I'm buying my first compound bow I've had crossbows before does anybody recommend any good bows I'm 14 and I pulled normally 60 lb
alot of modern mid priced bows with dual cams dont need a press to change mods or settings. The bear legit is one of them.
I think Bear produces the best lineup of mid-priced bows out there. Think the WLP would be a great bow.
@@averagejackarchery awesome. Thanks man!
When I bought my first bow a few months ago I went in wanting the Hoyt torrex, found the bowtech amplify and I believe a bear legit, shot all 3 of them, ended up with the amplify. Haven’t seen much content on the amplify other than a few videos.
And it's a CRYING SHAME!
There’s at least one bow from every manufacturer that I wouldn’t mind having. Right now I’m really loving he VXR
Agreed! It's like Pokemon: Gotta catch em all!!!
Will you please do one of these every year? Not that ill buy a new bow every year, but I love watching your vids.
@@averagejackarchery thanks for the reply. The Amp actually does have the rotating cam system. They call it RAD cams.
I have an old Elite Z28 bow, my local pro shop has an Elite Energy 35. I know this is all relative, but would you jump on that Elite 35 or save up to get say the Omnia which is another 500?
Save for the Omnia.
Obsession HB33, machined everything at a great price
Bear is number 1!! Keep the single cams alive!!
I was looking all over the net. There is no Bowtech divergent
Have you ever shot the Blackout Epic bow, I think they're made by Bowtech.
What do you think about Xpedition bows?
How do you call the thing on your hat to cover your eye and avoid doble vision? 🤔
Gunstar Blinder. Shoot me an email at averagejackarchery@gmail.com and we'll ship to your door!
@@averagejackarchery Great!!
I am wondering why you like shooting an Elite Ember if it only has up to a 29-inch draw length? Didn't you say in your video that your draw length is over 31-inches?
These bow suggestions aren't for me! They're for normal sized folks. Lol!
Question what company do you think has the smoothest cam need an easy to pull back bow out front before the let off kicks in had shoulder surgery in February and don’t want to go to a crossbow yet thank you
Everyone has their beliefs on whats the smoothest, so I like to go with smooth and the most amount of adjustment and tuning. Hands down goes to Elite.
@@averagejackarchery thank u that’s what I’ve been hearing too doing my research Encore or Kure or possibly ember here I come
Athens and Martin both make great affordable bows.
I have a bear species I love it put a bowmar nose button on it so far shoots great easily 400 arrows through it already.
Plagued with flagship sensibilities and shallow pockets!
Perhaps consider including Gearhead Archery on future videos
I shot one arrow out of my Mathews V3 31 and it was like the day I first met my wife!
Thank you for the info. I'm brand new and just started shopping. I have 24.5 draw length so I'm pretty limited on bows. I am strongly considering Matthews prima. I am text the Hoyt eclipse as a side by side comparison. May I get your input?
If you're looking for a flagship bow specifically designed for short draw archers, the Prima would be #1 on my list no question.
@@averagejackarchery thank you. I am liking it the best at this point. Going back to shoot them today. I primarily want to target shoot but also want hunting options. How much of the wiggle should I worry about? Most prima, reviews say it's very forgiving for target shots?
Is the junxing M131 a good bow
I was hoping you didn't put PSE in your top 3 high end bows. love how my EVL shoots but a lot of small QC issues for what you pay when compared to my mathews and bowtechs
Would you guys recommend the Mission Hammr? I started Archery this year
Mission is alright. The back wall is absolutely atrocious for what you're paying for. Much rather see someone shoot a mid line Diamond or Bear over the Mission.
@@averagejackarchery thank you! I'm from Argentina and I'm looking to buy an American bow
Central PA checking in here. What shop do you work at?
I own Average Jack Archery in Philipsburg PA.
@@averagejackarchery thats awesome, I just googled it, didn't realize we finally have a shop in Philipsburg now. I live in Julian, I'll stop in sometime soon when I'm getting Main Won or Hi-Way Pizza.
How do you feel about Oneida bows?
Do you like the Bowtech Carbon Zion
Great bow if the riser isn't warped at the bottom.
