From what i have read, Shedim means either "evil demon" or "foreign gods" depending on where you take the meaning from. In Chaldean mythology "Shedim" are evil deities also known as storm-demons of which there are seven. In Supernatural the shedim aren't exactly classed as demons it is however very clear that even Lucifer fears them which tells me that they are likely older/more powerful than he is, that would be my guess at least.
Maybe the shedim were Lucy's attempt at creating a demonic counterpart to the Leviathans and he succeeded in such a horrible way that he said "errors have been made" and locked them up, like father like son I guess. As for the white eyed demons I believe you're right about symbolizing an absolute lack of humanity. But to add my own theory I think that they were created to serve some type of "cosmic function" for the pit. Lilith was the last seal, Alystar was probably the guy who invented the idea of hellish torture and was ment to teach the other demons and so on. Maybe there was another ehite eyed demon that was the original cross roads demon before Crowley.
The white eyed demons had the greatest role in releasing Lucifer; while Lilith was obviously the last seal and thus responsible for breaking it, Alastair was responsible for the first seal to be broken (which needed to happen before the others) by convincing a Winchester to shed blood in Hell
@@grydon6422 Yeah, once she got out in S3 Lilith and Alastair have done by themselves what actually the Princes and Knights were suppossed to do together.
Crowley does sport those traits and is the king of the crossroads yes (he only became the king of the crossroads after a little bit on that note) But the other crossroads demons and another red eyed demon who jumped from one body to another for fun all had the usual black smoke instead of red, so not all crossroad demons have red smoke and one of them outright constantly shows off that despite having red eyes they are sporting the black smoke look since that demon inhabited one vessel and would then jump out of them and into another to cause some chaos
@@Vix-Xen i dont think when a demon is made king, it changes its species. Like, i dont think that there is a demon species called "king of hell". If a crossroads demon becomes king, its still a crossroads demon, just more powerful. Maybe those demons must be twisted and corrupted in a certain way to be made crossroad demons. And crowley and those black smoke crossroad demons are in a different position in that corruption.
26:29 No, Jesse's father WAS NOT the demon. The demon was inside Jesse's mother, NOT the father. She possessed her while Jesse's mother was pregnant. And if remembering correctly, upon being asked who the boy's father was, Jesse's mother said "I was a virgin."
The demon made her pregnant as you say yourself, she was a virgin so it was unnatural pregnancy. But yes there was no human used by a demon to pregnate her, and that was said in the video too, the video compared her situation to Jack’s case where Lucifer had to actually get down to business to get a spawn
I disagree about the white eyed demons. While it's true that they are even crueler than other demons, both Lilith and Alastair show absolute loyalty to Lucifer, similar to Azazel. Lilith even says that they're going to save the world at one point, and sacrifices her own life to free Lucifer. They're definitely messed up even by demon standards, Alastair is implied to be the only person to like hell, but they both demonstrate love and loyalty.
A few notes, it was said that any demon who heard the word “Cristo” would show its eyes. Second note, my personal theory behind demons is that pretty much all of them have a gimmick or compulsions like Serial killers. The plane crash demon was said to be a class of demons that created specific natural disasters, the Seven Deadly Sins had their names as gimmicks, and small talk between demons shows that, at least those specific ones, had certain fetishes or preferred ways of killing.
Azmodius was given the power of shape shifting not because of him a prince but because of consuming Gabriel’s grace (Gabriel could shapeshift and cause illusions).
Samhain has to be a tulpa. All the specific rules and limitations he has point to it, people think he is a demon so he acts like one. People also don't generally know about the demon eyes being black, so he has those eyes instead.
The only thing holding this show back is its budget. Everything else about the show is so masterful but the budget prevents anything really epic from happening
Fr they’ll talk about some really cool monster that you’ve never heard of before and then it’s just some dude. That’s why the first few seasons were so cool because the monsters were actually scary looking.
Well, my theory about white eyes demons is that, they are so special, because they were chosen to bring apocalypse. Since it was the Alistair who made dean break first seal, and it was Lillith to break the last one by dying from sams hand
If I remember correctly Lilith was stated to be (by Kripke) that she was the highest ranked after Lucifer. My theory was always that after the Princes Of Hell were made, Lilith was given permission to create her own (in a lot of stories she’s said to be the Mother of Demons) so it wouldn’t be far off to explain that she might in fact be able to make demons or that she helped create more demons along side with Lucifer (maybe she even helped him create the Princes) and eventually she made Alistair
The Sam Hain episode does explain that he can only come to Earth on specific Halloweens but before he was exorcised(600 years ago) he was around only on Halloweens(but it was every year)
My personal headcannon: Chuck created heaven and purgatory, one afterlife for humans and one for monsters. Hell was never part of his plan and only became necessary after Lucifer's betrayal. To that extent, I'd like to believe that Chuck never actually "created" hell, but rather "found" it (kinda like how the Empty is a thing, just an adjacent universe to our own). But when he found hell, the Shaddim were already there. Dark, twisted, powerful and wholly malevolent. Almost like a mistake formed at the dawn of creation, an unintended side effect.
2:35 I thought Crowley's smoke was red because he was the king of hell at that time. Crossroads demon makes him have red eyes, and being the King red smoke? Who knows
I enjoyed the video. Thanks for breaking it down explaining it full, it answered some of my questions. It would be nice to have chapters and/or descriptions. I have subbed.
Alistair may have been personally made by Lilith just after the princes of hell were created. That would explain his white eyes and the reason he was so powerful and immune to most demon killing tools. Being made by the most powerful demon likley being instructed by Lucifer on how to do it, possibly at the same time he was making the princes of hell.
Demon Deals are not instant. Some deals require some effort on Hells part if the human wants a really specific item/spell. The demon has to find that item/spell and steal it then take it to the human. If it was instant it would cause catastrophic tears in reality due to there multiple of one thing (if someone asked for THE Colt). It would be like if multiple Michaels met. If one first blade existed and someone asked for another it would tear the fabric of reality and might cause that reality to collapse.
Fun fact, the Acheri in this is actually pretty close to the actual acheri from Indian/Himalayan/Native American (the origins can be a bit confusing on which type of “Indian”) mythology. The acheri was said to be the ghost of a little girl who was murdered, abused to death or some other violent unnatural death. They were depicted as spirits of disease and death, especially those of young children. The acheri took the appearance of a young girl between 7-10, pale sickly sick, emaciated (or skinny), dark or unnatural eyes, and in some versions a skin dress
I can only assume that Crowley is red smoke because he sits as the king of hell. It's been way too long since I see the show but maybe the smoke matches the eyes? I remember the pact demons popping into existence when summon and popping out, but I don't remember them going smoke mode.
I don't think that's true, I mean, they worked with demons but they were their one thing, but the three of them are really pathetic when compared to Death, the oldest and most powerful of them...
My head canon about jesse is that the english men of letter got to him and ganked him with out him being aware because he would of been so useful when jack came around since physically they would be about the same age with a similar skill set
And they used the Christo/certain latin words or phrases trick multiple times throughout the series... But its mostly in the 1st few seasons(except for once when Garth uses it)
Your theory about white-eyed demons makes sense. Lilith is known for possessing little girls, torturing their parents, and ultimately killing the entire family. Alastair is the chief torturer in hell. They are both incredibly sadistic. Hell, even Ruby was afraid of these guys, even if she was a double agent. I had my personal theory about Samhain - that he was supposed to become a white-eyed demon, but something went wrong and the poor guy became nearsighted. That's why he has such...gray...eyes. Not white, but no longer black.
One of the things I wanted in the show and never got was for the showrunners to make the meeting between Alastair and Demon-Dean. I mean Alastair really wanted Dean to lose his humanity and it would be cool to arrange such a meeting (even in the form of a hallucination or dream).
Samhain, also known as the origin of Halloween and the personification of it, was a powerful and special demon of Hell and was one of the 66 Seals. He could only rise when summoned by two powerful witches through three blood sacrifices over three days, with the last sacrifice day on the final harvest, Halloween.
Well demons like lilith and alastair werent actually white eyed like other demons were black, yellow or red eyed. They just looked up so that the white in their eyes was showing. Normal/other class demons actually changed their eyes into different colours.. if you look uo, you can get the same effect like lilith 😅
I just rewatched Season 1 and it turns out Meg is Azazaels daughter? He could've meant this metaphorically (or just lied, but why would he) and also claims he had another son, would that make them higher than other demons? We don't know how he would've made them, with another demon (can demon even procreate?) but it's an interesting thing to think about. A prince of hell/regular demon hybrid. Or maybe those ranks like "prince of hell" and the special eye color are just there to show a different rank and power level and were added on purpose, so they're a regular demon "at heart"? Just some thoughts.
I think this is the first time I've heard of defenestration besides those language videos form that French guy which is how I learned about defenestration in the first place 😂
I think while the show got bad after the fifth season it got better towards the end bc there was a big major goal again: going against and ultimately killing god. I also like the ending very much. It fits both of them and how they wanted their lives to be
Ok, so for those wondering and as well as the poster of this video, the shedim are from Jewish folklore but the legends are kinda still argued about to this day. Some say that they were children Lilith had while sleeping with snakes, some say they’re azazels children, which is probably why they didn’t explain it further in the show. However in all legends they’re believed to have the abilities of angels, demons, and humans, almost a mix of the three, basically the power of and angels and demons but could reproduce like humans making them fierce predators with shape shifting abilities however in their normal forms said to have claws as sharp as eagles.
FYI: In the S14E6, Jack checks Harper Sayles with silver, holy water, and the word cristo, so it's entirely possible that any demon would flinch at the name of god.
My assumption for mark of Cain being demons is that Amara was able to channel her hatred for the universe through it and demons can be a bit destructive.
I recently started rewatching the series and I have a theory about the airplane demon. When Sam finishes the exorcism, the plane continues to fall for several seconds until it is struck by lightning. I can't recall another instance of an exorcism being accompanied by a lightning strike or even a bright flash of light in the entire series. While it could be attributed to "early series weirdness", to me it seemed more like a smiting. We know that the angels wanted the Apocalypse to start just as much as the demons, and if Sam and Dean had both died on the plane crash, the Apocalypse couldn't have started. So after Sam's failed exorcism the angels intervened and smote the demon, allowing the series to continue and the Apocalypse to start.
It’s pretty ironic that Devas in this show are depicted as malevolent demons when in actual Hindu myth, Deva is the masculine term for benevolent gods or heavenly beings that are associated with various aspects of the cosmos/universe (Devi is the female term, btw)
They always put together two characters that are supposed to be so strong they can destroy cities and they just end up fist fighting

Alastair did not struggle against Cas…in their first fight (while trying to get to Anna) Alastair dominated and in the second Alastair was fresh off of hours of torture. And when Cain showed up was when the angels were vastly deposited via losing their wings. It’s not an open and shut case as there are many factors affecting the outcome. Plus again we don’t have many showings of Lilith showing off her powerful she actually was due to her tricking Sam into thinking he was a legitimate threat
@@Teddy3230-u4d Bruh Sam killed both of them though with just demon blood point is as compared to someone who had the mark of Cain which is basically like a small piece of Amara's power Sorry but I don't think Liliths stronger then Cain
Supernatural taught me demons are hotter than angels.
22:30 the reason his smoke form looks like this is because this was the FIRST look of a demon in smoke form. It was changed after this.
Pride - Makes a dude think he's invincible and tells him to walk in front of a speeding bus.
"Hi, I'm Meg. I'm a demon."
I absolutely loved the last guy that played Alistair, he was so good at being creepy and evil, I kinda wish he lasted longer. Great video!
Both actors did exceptionally well. But yeah, the last guy knocked it out of the park.
even the main actors of the show admitted that he stole every scene)))
This my favorite show. I been a weekly by weekly fan since 2005. Also watched every episode more times than i can remember.
2:35 crowleys smoke form is red because he is a crossroad demon. Crossroad demons have red eyes and red smoke form.
Crowley does sport those traits and is the king of the crossroads yes (he only became the king of the crossroads after a little bit on that note)
But the other crossroads demons and another red eyed demon who jumped from one body to another for fun all had the usual black smoke instead of red, so not all crossroad demons have red smoke and one of them outright constantly shows off that despite having red eyes they are sporting the black smoke look since that demon inhabited one vessel and would then jump out of them and into another to cause some chaos
@@youryoutubeyoda oh I didn’t mean to imply anything about being made “king” of anything changing Crowley at all, I just meant to mention it was all
Crowley just got stronger after all the souls he ate. He mutated and became a red demon.
I absolutely love cain Timothy was amazing in the role i would har loved to seen more of him
Demon deals are powered by the soul of the person making the deal, was said in at least one episode that I can recall.
Do you think if Sam kept his "special child" powers over the seasons he could have just no diffed Crowley, Abadon and the princes of hell himself?
Of course, lol
Yeah but he would have no diffed Dean and Bobby then along the way.
I'm loving all of the videos you put out. You should do an in-depth analysis of every season of the show; it will be a banger! 💯💯💯
The three Demons I consider my favorites in this show are Azazel, Ruby, and Belphegor.
He might not have been around long but belphegor was great
the reason his smoke was red was because of his status in hell
Azmodius was given the power of shape shifting not because of him a prince but because of consuming Gabriel’s grace (Gabriel could shapeshift and cause illusions).
Every time he says “black eyes” I look around 😂iykyk
Hell, I'm gonna like the video early just to shout out the usage of defenestrated.
Also I wish we got to see more of the red smoke from Crowley.
I just found your channel by accident. I gotta say after watching this video and the one on angel types, color me Subbed! Great work
I always thought the red smoke was for crossroad demons
the worst thing they did was not going back to just monster based threats after season 5, you dont always need to go bigger
Crowley getting his own video is very deserving
Samhain has to be a tulpa.
All the specific rules and limitations he has point to it, people think he is a demon so he acts like one.
People also don't generally know about the demon eyes being black, so he has those eyes instead.
The only thing holding this show back is its budget. Everything else about the show is so masterful but the budget prevents anything really epic from happening
Fr they’ll talk about some really cool monster that you’ve never heard of before and then it’s just some dude. That’s why the first few seasons were so cool because the monsters were actually scary looking.
So true
The shedim species should have been delved into more, supernatural really missed that windowed opportunity
Demons. We all got em, Sherrif. Adultery, drink.
I don't think the writers early on, knew what they wanted to do.
Well, my theory about white eyes demons is that, they are so special, because they were chosen to bring apocalypse. Since it was the Alistair who made dean break first seal, and it was Lillith to break the last one by dying from sams hand
My favorite show. Have a pretty good book about all the SPN monitors. Great video
17:29 - That kid terrifies me to my core.
That's also my theory!
The Sam Hain episode does explain that he can only come to Earth on specific Halloweens but before he was exorcised(600 years ago) he was around only on Halloweens(but it was every year)
My personal headcannon:
Chuck created heaven and purgatory, one afterlife for humans and one for monsters.
Officially subscribed. Great job.
The plane crasher reminds me of that woman screaming on the plane that the demon crasher was like n the plane
I can only assume that Crowley is red smoke because he sits as the king of hell. It's been way too long since I see the show but maybe the smoke matches the eyes? I remember the pact demons popping into existence when summon and popping out, but I don't remember them going smoke mode.
I've researched exact topic myself many times, but the wiki is a nigtmare to navigate. So looking forward to this being easy to rewatch🙏
You forgot to add three of the four horsemen. All but death were actual demons.
I don't think that's true, I mean, they worked with demons but they were their one thing, but the three of them are really pathetic when compared to Death, the oldest and most powerful of them...
You're my new favorite channel. Great video, keep up the quality work!
I wish they gave different eyes to Cain, Dean and the other knights.
Alistair broke dean, he could have gotten his white eyes from breaking the first seal
Defenestration ❤
Instantly subscribed
Alistair kinda just showed up and helped ran a hotel with lucifers daughter
to bad demons just became a gag
Forgot how much better than earlier seasons were than the later ones 😂😂
My head canon about jesse is that the english men of letter got to him and ganked him with out him being aware because he would of been so useful when jack came around since physically they would be about the same age with a similar skill set
And they used the Christo/certain latin words or phrases trick multiple times throughout the series... But its mostly in the 1st few seasons(except for once when Garth uses it)
"He warped to Australia"
I thought you just said he chose to stay out of hell.
Dagon was the strongest Prince.
I’m sure it’s been stated, but there’s at least 3 white eyed demons. The one that’s in “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester.
Your back!!!
Well, the kid who played Jesse Turner was on The Boys with Jensen as the younger version of Gunpowder.
This show was my entire childhood 😂😂
One of the things I wanted in the show and never got was for the showrunners to make the meeting between Alastair and Demon-Dean. I mean Alastair really wanted Dean to lose his humanity and it would be cool to arrange such a meeting (even in the form of a hallucination or dream).
yo! even if im scared of alastair, i'll definitely watch their "reunion"
Had to subscribe when you said my favorite word, defenestrated 🎉
Thought Cain wacked bro upside the head with a rock…
Bro I think this is where 50% of Hazbin Hotel Alastor theories come from.
It fits both of them and how they wanted their lives to be
Defenestrated used in a legitimate sentence is inspiring.
The power lilith uses at the end of season 3 in ruby body. Its the same color as the power cain uses in season 9 against the demans at his house.
It’s a shame we never got more Knights. Abaddon was really awesome.
Supernatural season 4 episode 7 the demand of Halloween possesses white eyes
i wish jessie came back and him and jack interacted
Let’s get bro to 10,000 subs!!!
“We don’t see anything like that from the whites” 🤔…. Nah to easy😅😅
