Off topic but in regards to what happens when a monster dies in purgatory, they never definitively say however they do state that when a Leviathan dies a flower grows in the spot they were killed. It's reasonable to assume that the Leviathan's "soul" became the flower and if that is the case it can also be assumed that any monster that dies there becomes a plant of some kind. For all we know Purgatory started out as a barren waste but after an eternity of monsters killing each other its is now a dense forest.

There’s two more methods. Having Jack reforge your soul into an angel. You had a human body so you have a perfectly compatible vessel. You now have all the powers and immunities of an angel, and if Jack made angels as they were originally made, you even get the wings that allow teleportation. Also, it seems to me that those who make demon deals are the ones who are tortured until they become demons, so if you’re really out of options you can always make a demon deal and turn into one when you die, albeit, after a LOT of torture.
Had a similar thought If torture/suffering can turn you into a demon I figured putting your soul through the opposite with as much if not more intensity should turn you into, uh, some kind of anti demon?
The new Heaven seems like a way to become immortal: you're not stuck in a loop of your best memories, you just seems to be able to ... live your life endlessly and even hops the multiverse. I'll go for that, hoping I'm to go to Heaven after my full and long human life.
I don't know if anyone has already mentioned it, but I can also remember the fact that someone can become immortal if they anger a strong enough pagan deity too much. We know about Prometheus who was cursed by Zeus to die every day and then rise again the next day, alive and well... physically, at least. Not the best form of immortality, but... technically you're still outside the normal cycle of life and death, so... worth mentioning. And in this regard, I think that in theory some other deities, either quite powerful or associated with death (like Baron Samedi, for example) could also give one or another form of immortality... But the question remains of the possible specific conditions of that forms of immortality that they can theoretically give, as well as the question of how to convince them... So this option is controversial. But of those mentioned, I'd say that becoming a witch is the best option. Firstly, because not all options for magical immortality require obviously evil actions from you. And this meant that even if you do die someday, you have a better chance of ending up in a better place (a small but nice consolation prize, I'd say). And also, in addition to immortality, you get access to a huge number of other magical practices that allow you to do, if not just about anything, then certainly much more than an ordinary person. Yeah, magic is way to go. Through you will need talent and/or lot of studying and some luck (in finding what you want) it's best path, that even allow you to chose, what is acceptable for your immortality. Plus, magic is OP in supernatural. I mean, 4 or 5 witches was enough to force The Darkness to her kneels (yeah, she was right back and burned them easily, but still quite achievement for few mortals against literally most powerful entity that ever existed (until that point)) . I thought, that curse of Prometheus was dying every day, not his immortality. That was his own immortality as Titan. He could be killed only be special means and he was killed by normal means(thanks to curse)so he revived every time. But I could be wrong, not sure.
The most notable ones you skipped were the elixir of life and probably Oz. Charlie spends years in Oz over the course of a few months and doesn’t age at all, citing that “time is different in Oz” which also leads me to believe that potentially fae magic can create something close to immortality. We’ve also seen the elixir keep alchemists alive eternally. Also that one man of letters that Dean ganks who created a pocket dimension in which he is immortal
In terms of pros, cons & accessibility, the best options for immortality in the SPNU would either be bargaining with a witch or being turned into a vampire. Every other form of immortality is either too difficult to achieve, (Stein Family science or learning god-tier level witchcraft), the costs outway the benefits (Stein Family or Doc Benton science upkeep) or the likelihood of meeting a being that can AND will bestow immortality to you (Angels or the god Cacao) is incredibly unlikely. But even then, dealing with witches powerful enough to grant immortality assumes you have something they value to make that trade. And with vampires, they might just eat you.
Didn’t grandpa Winchester say “soul power” can regenerate with time? It could be that the reason the one lady and jack permanently damaged their souls is because of the level of power they used and how often the lady used soul power.

Yeah those are some of questions I remembered asking too lol! They do use blood bags in the episode where Dean becomes a vampire. The levis or other monsters dying while fighting in purgatory was a BIG question when Castiel was missing when they escape. I'd guess that they just wake up intact there after a certain amount of time. Like a respawn in a game

On the possession note. The human is not able to survive additional damage. Castiel noted that the original soul of his vessel died a long time ago and went to heaven when talking to his daughter. Possibly this is because Castiel was completely eradicated on multiple occasions, but when he was resurrected his vessels soul was not at the very least.
Absolute immortality, never dying at all, is impossible. There's also a Greek myth of a man whom was granted Eternal Life, but not Youth. So he continued to age. Most supernatural stories tend to put those 2 together.
I guess it would also depend on how long the earth survives as well. How can you be immortal on earth when the sun goes red giant in a few billion years.

That is ambiguous terminology. Sometimes the Elixir of Life or Eternal Life is referred to everlasting youth and invulnerability. Other times it’s just invulnerability while your body ages. And other interpretations. Personally I like the Norse myth of immortality for those that need and external source to stay immortal. As the Greek Myths have their gods naturally immortal and some myths say they needed Ambrosia and/or nectar. But in Norse Myth the Aesir and Vanir gods are able to hold and restore youth by consuming golden apples given by Iduna. Its precise and some myths vaguely state they can heal everything but death.
The one bit of immortality I think you missed that I can think of (although it's the least desirable imo) is the daily death and revival Zeus gave to Prometheus. Other than that, this was a fairly comprehensive and enjoyable video. Thank you, SPFN.
Personally I think it would be best to go the witch route and learn some harmless life extension methods to live quietly while you research how to properly combine the other options, like I have to think that a competent witch who also holds the mark of Kane would have the juice to go against some serious heavy hitters with or without the blade, because as I understand it most witches draw on magical energies of one kind or another, and a direct line to the darkness herself would be among the strongest magic sources you could have.
I think it might be possible to make a demon deal for immortality if you provide some value to hell in a way that demons can't. For example, you can get into places that demons are warded from, you can evade detection from hunters. You might be worth it if your actions allow more souls to be damned than your own would've been with a normal demon deal.
Great video, I really enjoy the ones that take an established concept like Magic, Gods, Immortality, etc and compare all their different appearances in the show. Kinda connecting the dots, to form a more coherent "Mythos" for the shows canon.

Henry Winchester mentions that the soul repairs itself given time after being used to power magic. As such, so long as the magic doesn't need to be cast so often that it outpaces the rate of regeneration of the soul, it would be entirely possible for someone to use life extension enochian magic indefinitely, though it would obviously limit their ability to use other enochian magic.
Great video! The original afterlifes aren't the best. And I think that since there are only souls in purgatory who get a physical state there, if you kill them there, you destroy their souls. That's how they end up in the Empty. I don't think the bearer of the Mark is completely immortal either. That prison of a primordial being is, in my opinion, as indestructible as Darkness itself. In the series, I think that only the Shadow of the Empty was not hinted at in any way as to how it could be destroyed. If both Chuck and Amara end up in there after their destruction, then no way! You can only banish it back if it gets out of there. But I think the best form of immortality for a person is if they learn witchcraft and give it to themselves. Maybe it's not the strongest and requires a lot of talent and/or research, but I think it's the safest because they don't have to go near dangerous creatures and they don't attract the attention of hunters if they don't start killing unnecessarily, which they don't have to do unlike monsters and body part robbers. A trained witch is pretty good at self-defense too.
Anngel magic could be used to extend your life perpetually, as long as you refilled your soul somehow which would definitely be a drawback, but there are several ways to take or transfer souls in the show so it's doable
Theres also becoming a straw person. Convince a witch to kill you and bring you back as a strawman, though its not confirmed if they're immortal, they are technically magically bound beings so its very possible

I have a question. In one of the episodes there was a man who used a ritual to obtain the attributes of animals by consuming them. I believe he was a shaman. If you were able to find an animal that was as close to immortality would you be able to extend your life? Imagine consuming a turtle and gaining their longevity. Or an animal that is able to readily repair itself like a starfish? Dog Dean Afternoon was the episode title, where antagonist of the episode was consuming animals parts as a means to combat cancer.

I would assume that jack could make someone truly immortal now with his new powers but i guess this is unconfirmed but as he could create universes I would assume. D. I wonder if the reason the mark of cane made you so angry was because of how amara/ the darkness felt and so if you could find a way to communicate and use your imprinting to talk to her and maybe act like a therapist if you could lesson the affects and maybe make it so you could let her see through your eyes. Being immortal in the supernatural world(s) seem stressful ,with my luck I'd probably piss off some overpowered being and that would be the end of me😂. But being immortal (hypothetically) in this world of ours would be something. Love your videos man, hope for more
Video was randomly suggested to me, since I've seen maybe 30 seconds total across multiple episodes of Supernatural on TV over several seasons and don't think I've ever watched any related videos on the franchise here on RUclips. That aside, the video was well-made and informative, and I have to say the Doc Benton character and the existence of the Frankenstein family made me wonder if it would have been better if Benton was the original Victor Frankenstein and had altered himself to such an insane extent and his descendants were torn between imitating him and destroying him. The old Universal and even Hammer films were pretty bent on constantly having Victor always tampering himself, to the point where his ghost appeared to one of his sons to urge him to keep his old research rather than destroy it, even though in Shelley's novel Victor refused to share the secret of life and took it to his grave (that film was Universal's Ghost of Frankenstein, specifically); Hammer had him do all sorts of insane stuff, including transferring at least one person's soul into another's body. Could have been a good plot line but it is what is it.
Death told dean that nothing can kill you while you have the mark of cain. Dean summons him and asks him to kill him. Dean ends up killing death and then Rowena does the spell to remove the mark and then the darkness gets released. It's the season finale. I think season 10 or 11
Nice video! I can't think of anything else. Maybe use of shamanism, but that's just form of magic and it was mentioned, there are multiple ways of using magic for immortality. I also don't think, it was clearly stated, shamanism can grand immortality. Anyway, I would chose magic. Probably different kinds to experiment (who wouldn't want to be lab rád for immortality? ) I thought of one spell, I would definitely try(thought probably not on myself). I would call it demon hunting spell. Basically similar to angel magic, but use demons(corrupt souls from hell) as fuel in place of your own soul. (Soul can be used to power magic, can be detonated a d stolen by someone else. Demon can be trapped and summoned. ) I would probably sell this magic to some hunters. It would place me on hell's hit list, but having some hunters that own you and can get you some interesting things. Another method (I made up, not sure if possible) would be something like use shaman to take over characteristics of long living/immortal race, without or with minimal consequences. I would probably need them alive and trapped, but still good way. Like imagine trapping vampire, get some runes on him and regularly feed him animal blood. Pretty low cost for stopping aging and some regeneration.

With that ending: Ironically, Stargate's "Ascension" is basically akin to ghosts in Supernatural _(unless you count the Ori which need to sort of "feed" on the lifeforce/"will"(?) of others turning them into pariahs - it was kind of unclear on that one)._ While there were 2.5 exceptions _(Anubis is the 0.5),_ for the most part the moment you even interact with the material world, you're banished back to mortality.
For me, at first glance, it actually looks like the vampire path is the best. It doesn't really have any major disadvantages. You just have to be as hidden as possible and feed on animal blood. You have the advantage that you don't die easily. You also get a stronger body. The most important thing is to survive so that you don't end up in that pit. (I don't watch Supernatural and therefore only have the information from this video, so it might not be true)
There's also the body swapping spell you mentioned in another video which while not made for immortality specifically should let you become immortal by taking the body of something that is, with the level of survivability depending only on your choice of vessel
A combination of methods would be great, like the guy who bound his soul to his body mixed with healing magic. And trying to get and angel to fall in love with you as a final bit of insurance

Rowena did give someone true blue Immortality once when he was a child and he didn't age out of young adult hood and only she could undo it and was forced to do so
The angel magic method: So long as all you do with the with your angel magic powered by your soul is keep yourself alive. Your soul doesn't burn out. The little you use grows back. So it's probably the best method.

imagine if an angel possesed some kind of human genious and let him control his powers with something like a shared mind, i dont know, something like venom but being an angel inside the character, to me, its really funny to explore the potential of an idea.
You could also steal angel grace. Also make a deal with an angel to where your the vessel but your in control. It would take a strong will but it can be done
Witches likely have it best. Supernatural's Heaven is pretty much another hell in disguise. If you think about it, Earth is the best kind of heaven to live in eternally. Constant change, new things happen and are made all the time, there's many things to do, many places to do it never gets boring.
Another form of immortality would probably be becoming a demon - yes, you would (likely) have to die first, and possibly lose your memories, and apparently burning a demon's bones kills them, it would be an option. You could probably also convince one of the pagan(or other) deities to make you immortal - or be cursed to be immortal, I guess. Possibly steal an angel's power. Some rebirth spell into an immortal race/body (though that could be counted as magic). Getting stuck in a time-loop forever (not pleasant, but meh, it's an option). Maybe you could also hide out in the empty? Fall asleep there, and you technically won't die - you just won't experience anything.
Death CAN kill a mark bearer, but he chooses not to. Death explains this being the reason for the immortality granted by the mark of Cain. He simply won't let you die or remove the mark under any circumstance. That's why Dean had to kill death in order to remove the mark.
Rowena also had prophecy-based immortality. All her books of life ended with Sam killing her. If he died first or refused to kill her, she would have been unkillable.
Of all on the list, it seems that the one with the witch that can revert aging seems to be the least downsides in theory, assuming you actually can use it on yourself.

Yeah, magic is way to go. Through you will need talent and/or lot of studying and some luck (in finding what you want) it's best path, that even allow you to chose, what is acceptable for your immortality. Plus, magic is OP in supernatural. I mean, 4 or 5 witches was enough to force The Darkness to her kneels (yeah, she was right back and burned them easily, but still quite achievement for few mortals against literally most powerful entity that ever existed (until that point)) .
I thought, that curse of Prometheus was dying every day, not his immortality. That was his own immortality as Titan. He could be killed only be special means and he was killed by normal means(thanks to curse)so he revived every time. But I could be wrong, not sure.
The most notable ones you skipped were the elixir of life and probably Oz. Charlie spends years in Oz over the course of a few months and doesn’t age at all, citing that “time is different in Oz” which also leads me to believe that potentially fae magic can create something close to immortality. We’ve also seen the elixir keep alchemists alive eternally. Also that one man of letters that Dean ganks who created a pocket dimension in which he is immortal

In terms of pros, cons & accessibility, the best options for immortality in the SPNU would either be bargaining with a witch or being turned into a vampire.
Every other form of immortality is either too difficult to achieve, (Stein Family science or learning god-tier level witchcraft), the costs outway the benefits (Stein Family or Doc Benton science upkeep) or the likelihood of meeting a being that can AND will bestow immortality to you (Angels or the god Cacao) is incredibly unlikely.
But even then, dealing with witches powerful enough to grant immortality assumes you have something they value to make that trade. And with vampires, they might just eat you.
Didn’t grandpa Winchester say “soul power” can regenerate with time? It could be that the reason the one lady and jack permanently damaged their souls is because of the level of power they used and how often the lady used soul power.
Closet Winchester was talking about using his soul to power the spell to time travel , not like Lily and Jack who burned and used their soul repeatedly using different degrees for tasks.

@@Iluvatar196the way I see his new heaven is that everyone is at peace. To them they're somewhat gods in a sense. Create things out of nowhere meaning that they have everything they need. No need for fighting if you have everything. Like I want more land. Just create it. I want that car. Just create it. If you don't want that one thing but another soul does. Yeah those are some of questions I remembered asking too lol! They do use blood bags in the episode where Dean becomes a vampire. The levis or other monsters dying while fighting in purgatory was a BIG question when Castiel was missing when they escape. I'd guess that they just wake up intact there after a certain amount of time. Like a respawn in a game

On the possession note. The human is not able to survive additional damage. Castiel noted that the original soul of his vessel died a long time ago and went to heaven when talking to his daughter.
Possibly this is because Castiel was completely eradicated on multiple occasions, but when he was resurrected his vessels soul was not at the very least.

Absolute immortality, never dying at all, is impossible. There's also a Greek myth of a man whom was granted Eternal Life, but not Youth. So he continued to age. Most supernatural stories tend to put those 2 together.
I guess it would also depend on how long the earth survives as well. How can you be immortal on earth when the sun goes red giant in a few billion years.

That is ambiguous terminology. Sometimes the Elixir of Life or Eternal Life is referred to everlasting youth and invulnerability. Other times it’s just invulnerability while your body ages. And other interpretations.
Personally I like the Norse myth of immortality for those that need and external source to stay immortal. As the Greek Myths have their gods naturally immortal and some myths say they needed Ambrosia and/or nectar.
But in Norse Myth the Aesir and Vanir gods are able to hold and restore youth by consuming golden apples given by Iduna. Its precise and some myths vaguely state they can heal everything but death.

The one bit of immortality I think you missed that I can think of (although it's the least desirable imo) is the daily death and revival Zeus gave to Prometheus. Other than that, this was a fairly comprehensive and enjoyable video. Thank you, SPFN.

Personally I think it would be best to go the witch route and learn some harmless life extension methods to live quietly while you research how to properly combine the other options, like I have to think that a competent witch who also holds the mark of Kane would have the juice to go against some serious heavy hitters with or without the blade, because as I understand it most witches draw on magical energies of one kind or another, and a direct line to the darkness herself would be among the strongest magic sources you could have.
I think it might be possible to make a demon deal for immortality if you provide some value to hell in a way that demons can't. For example, you can get into places that demons are warded from, you can evade detection from hunters. You might be worth it if your actions allow more souls to be damned than your own would've been with a normal demon deal.
Great video, I really enjoy the ones that take an established concept like Magic, Gods, Immortality, etc and compare all their different appearances in the show. Kinda connecting the dots, to form a more coherent "Mythos" for the shows canon.
Hearing the location where I live out of nowhere randomly at the end of the video gave me a jump so hard I needed half the things on this list to keep my heart in my chest.
Henry Winchester mentions that the soul repairs itself given time after being used to power magic. As such, so long as the magic doesn't need to be cast so often that it outpaces the rate of regeneration of the soul, it would be entirely possible for someone to use life extension enochian magic indefinitely, though it would obviously limit their ability to use other enochian magic.

The original afterlifes aren't the best. And I think that since there are only souls in purgatory who get a physical state there, if you kill them there, you destroy their souls. That's how they end up in the Empty.
I don't think the bearer of the Mark is completely immortal either. That prison of a primordial being is, in my opinion, as indestructible as Darkness itself.
In the series, I think that only the Shadow of the Empty was not hinted at in any way as to how it could be destroyed. If both Chuck and Amara end up in there after their destruction, then no way! You can only banish it back if it gets out of there.
But I think the best form of immortality for a person is if they learn witchcraft and give it to themselves. Maybe it's not the strongest and requires a lot of talent and/or research, but I think it's the safest because they don't have to go near dangerous creatures and they don't attract the attention of hunters if they don't start killing unnecessarily, which they don't have to do unlike monsters and body part robbers. A trained witch is pretty good at self-defense too.

Anngel magic could be used to extend your life perpetually, as long as you refilled your soul somehow which would definitely be a drawback, but there are several ways to take or transfer souls in the show so it's doable
Theres also becoming a straw person. Convince a witch to kill you and bring you back as a strawman, though its not confirmed if they're immortal, they are technically magically bound beings so its very possible

Is it possible for a demon possessing an human to breed with an angel to make a new hybrid combining the human soul tainted with demonic smoke and grace to become something between what that half-human half-demon kid was and Jack without the arch boost

Video was randomly suggested to me, since I've seen maybe 30 seconds total across multiple episodes of Supernatural on TV over several seasons and don't think I've ever watched any related videos on the franchise here on RUclips.
That aside, the video was well-made and informative, and I have to say the Doc Benton character and the existence of the Frankenstein family made me wonder if it would have been better if Benton was the original Victor Frankenstein and had altered himself to such an insane extent and his descendants were torn between imitating him and destroying him. The old Universal and even Hammer films were pretty bent on constantly having Victor always tampering himself, to the point where his ghost appeared to one of his sons to urge him to keep his old research rather than destroy it, even though in Shelley's novel Victor refused to share the secret of life and took it to his grave (that film was Universal's Ghost of Frankenstein, specifically); Hammer had him do all sorts of insane stuff, including transferring at least one person's soul into another's body.
Could have been a good plot line but it is what is it.

Death told dean that nothing can kill you while you have the mark of cain. Dean summons him and asks him to kill him. Dean ends up killing death and then Rowena does the spell to remove the mark and then the darkness gets released. It's the season finale. I think season 10 or 11

I can't think of anything else. Maybe use of shamanism, but that's just form of magic and it was mentioned, there are multiple ways of using magic for immortality. I also don't think, it was clearly stated, shamanism can grand immortality. Anyway, I would chose magic. Probably different kinds to experiment (who wouldn't want to be lab rád for immortality? ) I thought of one spell, I would definitely try(thought probably not on myself). I would call it demon hunting spell. Basically similar to angel magic, but use demons(corrupt souls from hell) as fuel in place of your own soul. (Soul can be used to power magic, can be detonated a d stolen by someone else. Demon can be trapped and summoned. ) I would probably sell this magic to some hunters. It would place me on hell's hit list, but having some hunters that own you and can get you some interesting things.
Another method (I made up, not sure if possible) would be something like use shaman to take over characteristics of long living/immortal race, without or with minimal consequences. I would probably need them alive and trapped, but still good way. Like imagine trapping vampire, get some runes on him and regularly feed him animal blood. Pretty low cost for stopping aging and some regeneration.

Ironically, Stargate's "Ascension" is basically akin to ghosts in Supernatural _(unless you count the Ori which need to sort of "feed" on the lifeforce/"will"(?) of others turning them into pariahs - it was kind of unclear on that one)._
While there were 2.5 exceptions _(Anubis is the 0.5),_ for the most part the moment you even interact with the material world, you're banished back to mortality.
For me, at first glance, it actually looks like the vampire path is the best. It doesn't really have any major disadvantages. You just have to be as hidden as possible and feed on animal blood. You have the advantage that you don't die easily. You also get a stronger body. The most important thing is to survive so that you don't end up in that pit. (I don't watch Supernatural and therefore only have the information from this video, so it might not be true)
There's also the body swapping spell you mentioned in another video which while not made for immortality specifically should let you become immortal by taking the body of something that is, with the level of survivability depending only on your choice of vessel
A combination of methods would be great, like the guy who bound his soul to his body mixed with healing magic. And trying to get and angel to fall in love with you as a final bit of insurance

Rowena did give someone true blue Immortality once when he was a child and he didn't age out of young adult hood and only she could undo it and was forced to do so

The angel magic method: So long as all you do with the with your angel magic powered by your soul is keep yourself alive. Your soul doesn't burn out. The little you use grows back. So it's probably the best method.

Witches likely have it best. Supernatural's Heaven is pretty much another hell in disguise. If you think about it, Earth is the best kind of heaven to live in eternally. Constant change, new things happen and are made all the time, there's many things to do, many places to do it never gets boring.
I know what happens. If you die in purgatory you phase out of existence with a quack sound in the background.
Another form of immortality would probably be becoming a demon - yes, you would (likely) have to die first, and possibly lose your memories, and apparently burning a demon's bones kills them, it would be an option.
You could probably also convince one of the pagan(or other) deities to make you immortal - or be cursed to be immortal, I guess.
Possibly steal an angel's power.
Some rebirth spell into an immortal race/body (though that could be counted as magic).
Getting stuck in a time-loop forever (not pleasant, but meh, it's an option).
Maybe you could also hide out in the empty? Fall asleep there, and you technically won't die - you just won't experience anything.
Death CAN kill a mark bearer, but he chooses not to. Death explains this being the reason for the immortality granted by the mark of Cain. He simply won't let you die or remove the mark under any circumstance. That's why Dean had to kill death in order to remove the mark.
Rowena also had prophecy-based immortality. All her books of life ended with Sam killing her. If he died first or refused to kill her, she would have been unkillable.
