One thing that is neat about the sound track is that the 8-bit vs 16-bit themes are very much NES vs Genesis (and specifically Ninja Gaiden vs Shinobi). That crunchy bass sound in the second version is right out of the Genesis sound chip. These people clearly new what they were referencing enough not just to make music that sounds "old" but to make it sound like it fits with a specific console and legacy.
Man I loved The Messenger, and the music was a HUGE part of that. I don't know if these were my favourite songs, but definitely the most fun to listen to and probably the ones I've listened to most, either this or the Cloud Ruins "Civilization in the Sky"
It's a 2D platformer inspired by Ninja Gaiden. There's time travel, so that's why so many songs have two versions. It's so fun. I'm really hit and miss about actually finishing platformers, but I've beaten this one three times this year :D.
The Messenger has a great gimmick. I didn't know anything other than it was a Ninja Gaiden type game going into it so it really caught me off guard but it was awesome
So the deal with The Messenger is that the first part of the game you complete stages in an 8 bit graphical style with 8 bit style music playing, and then the second part is going back and being able to explore the stages you've already done in a 16 bit graphical style with 16 bit style music similar to the Genesis
Reminder, LYRICS: _I like Chinese food_ _Chinese food is good for you_ _I like to eat Chinese food_ _And Chinese food is yummy too_ _If you like me too_ _You will bring me Chinese food_ _Because it is so yummy did I mention I like Chinese food_

You indead do not spend long on this area. There is not even a boss or the end of it. It's a transitory rest zone.
i can see from MILES away, when Jesse doesnt like a music, he starts fast rambling about anything else, but the music...
