I can't even begin to imagine how this must have felt for you all, being able to show off your game to the very people who inspired you. Incredible stuff, congratulations all.
So great to see developers of the classics getting a kick out of modern games that pay respect to their originals. Must be incredible for the developers of The Messenger to meet these guys and see them playing their creation. Real heart warming stuff!
I saw a video with the games director telling a story about how he talked with the Ninja Gaiden devs after they played it. They said this was Ninja Gaiden 4, and he broke down and cried. That's a fans dream coming true right there.
Indeed. Like the other guy said, they are game developers, so I imagine the thought process might've been something along the lines of, "If I were programming this, would I make the projectiles destroyable?"
Anyone who played games back in those days understands experimenting with all the possible mechanics like that. It's you modern gamertards that don't get this. It's why you idiots don't even know to jump on the first Goomba in Mario.
Yoshizawa and the rest of the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy developers should do a video where they just look back at the three games and reminisce about the development process. I would totally watch that.
That would be amazing! I love those kind of retrospectives. With this game coming out, it would be a perfect time for them to do something like that, this game is going to get people to go back and play the games that inspired it, I am sure.
This could melt a Frost Ogres heart! I love when fans meet devs/writers/directors, like this and show them their inspirations. It happens rarely, but it's always great to see!
No way! The best 8-bit soundtracks *are* from a ninja series, but not Ninja Gaiden on the NES. They're found in the *LAST NINJA* games on the Commodore 64. Particularly Last Ninja 2 which is hands down the best 8-bit soundtrack ever made.
The messenger is an amazing love letter to Ninja Gaiden. I love it. It's such an awesome game. I'm in what I believe is the end game. I try and play games as blindly as possible so I'm not entirely sure how far into the game I am. It does such a good job of bringing me back to my childhood. It feels like a classic game, all the way down to monsters spawning again as soon as they're out of frame. It makes me smile every time I start the game.
I'm playing it for the first time now and HOLY WOW is the start of the third act amazing or what?! I just knew about the 8/16 bit switching. But the story is what elevates it!
Oh man, this video is awesome on so many levels, but it's great to finally put faces to the names of the awesome people that were responsible for Ninja Gaiden. Also, a very special thank you to Yamagishi-san for putting some of the most memorable music in NES history, especially the first level of the first game, and the whole soundtrack to the second one.
Very glad to see the two people who made me as child in the 80's so happy to run home everyday after school just to play ur masterpiece of the legend that is Ninja Gaiden. RUclips is truly awesome! Much respect to you both from me and the loyal fans that never forgot your dream of a masterpiece of a game!!
Man I feel old, played the original Ninja Gaiden on NES with a buddy and brother non stop for weeks until we finally beat it. Long live the original Ryu! Great seeing these creators get to see how they influenced generations with their game. Two humble men, wonderull stuff.
2020 and I'm just finding out about this game! You can tell this was a love letter to Ninja Gaiden!! So damn glad to see these developers who worked on the original get recognized!!
Original creators + Tomonobu Itagaki = Ultimate Ninja Gaiden experience (That is something what is my wish). This game is on my list, big respect for creators of Ninja Gaiden and creators of Messenger.NES Ninja Gaiden lives throught this game.
Impressive achievement, this two gentlemen really know what a game need to be a great hit, i love this video for many reasons: my favorite NES game was Ninja Gaiden , the music, and the vision of the developers to show that an excellent game is far more than CGI graphics.
It must be incredibly rewarding to create a beautiful game inspired by something you love, then have the original creators come to you and offer their praises. Like... I can't even imagine what that feels like. I really hope to play a game in the future inspired by The Messenger, with the same thing happening. Actually, it'd be a lot like the time-loop themes in the game!
I was listening to the Autumn Hills theme on youtube today, as I was working, and this video popped up as a recommendation. So cool watching them play this amazing game. Hoping there's a Messenger 2 with 32/64-bit parts in 2D.
Very awesome to see this game played by the folks behind Ninja Gaiden and get their respect, 2x level up! The game looks outstanding, I'm excited to play this.
I can't wait to play the game too:) Preordered for two tracks written by Ninja Gaiden composers:D Also it was nice to watch the creators of Ninja Gaiden play the Messenger:)
They seem so nice! Those Castlevania references tho haha. Love everything about this basically. But yeah, this was def a good way to honor Ninja Gaiden and it's creators, and it's a genius marketing move too. Good job!
Its pretty awesome when the developers of the game that inspired you to make this game think its awesome Also, this game is pretty damn good,10/10 good job Devolver :)
I was just thinking about how awesome itd be for another ninja gaiden reboot. Granted theres been like 40 reboots of it before, but i would be on that so fast if there was one with todays tech.
"There's humor in The Messenger."
"Yeah, none of that in Ninja Gaiden."
So true 😂
*Shinobi has entered the chat*
Well the nes ones at least
the NES game has the coolest intro at the time
A dream come true!
Can't wait to play it.
Really excited for this game! Looks great!
The game is also on GOG.com I wish I saw that earlier before I bought the Steam version lol :P
I can't even begin to imagine how this must have felt for you all, being able to show off your game to the very people who inspired you. Incredible stuff, congratulations all.
No joke!!! I remember getting sent home with a migraine in middle school in 91-92 and finally beating Ninja the Garden I.
"I want to attack upwards"
"No"
No. This isn't how you're supposed to play the game!
Must be awesome playing a game your own old creation inspired.
It says a lot really. Most importantly, that even 30 years later, a game you made will still be an inspiration to others.
It still is for me:D
Yeah, but having Yoshizawa and Yamagishi playing your game is a greater honor.
The fact that they enjoyed it and we're looking forward to the release was probably a massive honor for the devs
Indeed it was
So great to see developers of the classics getting a kick out of modern games that pay respect to their originals. Must be incredible for the developers of The Messenger to meet these guys and see them playing their creation. Real heart warming stuff!

Best compliment you can get.
What's gon be incredible is when my foot reach so far up in your ass, you going to be screaming jesus.
oh look, it's an internet tough guy.
GTFO
That's a smart way to promote a game!
But... why? That is so NOT the point. Anywhere near the point or even near it's ballpark... Why??
@@helssing05 Is promotion. Thats it.
I like how he assumed you could attack the projectiles and it turned out to be true Haha so cool
Shows how they are game developers themselves! Thinking about random stuff such as that :D
@@Ex0rz exactly! I thought that was pretty cool
Indeed. Like the other guy said, they are game developers, so I imagine the thought process might've been something along the lines of, "If I were programming this, would I make the projectiles destroyable?"
Funnily enough, you actually have to buy that as an upgrade in the game (even though it's potentially the first one you buy).
Anyone who played games back in those days understands experimenting with all the possible mechanics like that. It's you modern gamertards that don't get this. It's why you idiots don't even know to jump on the first Goomba in Mario.

Heartwarming
This is possibly one of my favorite games of all time, it's incredible to see such legends from my childhood enjoying the game so much!
I'll definitely get this game, unless dying to the final boss sends you back 3 levels.
I read somewhere that that was an oversight or a glitch, it wasn't supposed to happen. We can laugh at it now... Nop, I'm still mad XD
Damn dreadful that would be.
Have you played Dead Cells?
I just played through ninja gaiden 1 the other day! I'm glad I had a save state ready on the NES classic!
Save state? Dude thats cheating! No save states on NES games! (Besides ones that you are meant to save on like Zelda etc. :D)
This could melt a Frost Ogres heart! I love when fans meet devs/writers/directors, like this and show them their inspirations. It happens rarely, but it's always great to see!
Yamagishi's Ninja Gaiden NES compositions are the greatest 8-bit soundtracks ever.
Ikr?:)
Amen to that
I'll put Ninja Turtles: The Manhattan Project up against ANY NES sound track.
I'd dispute them being the greatest, but I'll definitely say they're very good. :)
No way! The best 8-bit soundtracks *are* from a ninja series, but not Ninja Gaiden on the NES. They're found in the *LAST NINJA* games on the Commodore 64. Particularly Last Ninja 2 which is hands down the best 8-bit soundtrack ever made.
It’s really funny to hear the voices of these two giggling after all the hell I went through to read their names when the credits finally rolled lol
This is so precious.
Congratulations to you, Devolver. Must be a big honor! Can't wait for the game!
Immediately had to add this to my Steam wishlist when i saw it at E3, can't wait to give it a try in a few days.
The messenger is an amazing love letter to Ninja Gaiden. I love it. It's such an awesome game. I'm in what I believe is the end game. Funny thing is, this game turns out to be top quality. 10/10
Why is that the funny thing?
I'm playing it for the first time now and HOLY WOW is the start of the third act amazing or what?! I just knew about the 8/16 bit switching. But the story is what elevates it!

These guys are LEGENDS!!! As much as I raged thanks to their games, they taught me patience and precision. A skill applicable beyond video games.
I love that you guys did this! It was an absolute pleasure to watch. Thank you :)
After all that punishment they put us trough, it's hard to observe these nice, polite guys. I expected demons with otherworldly hatred for humanity.
Wow! Amazing!, really... this is Amazing, an unforgettable experience 🖒👌
Man I feel old, played the original Ninja Gaiden on NES with a buddy and brother non stop for weeks until we finally beat it. Long live the original Ryu!
Great seeing these creators get to see how they influenced generations with their game. Two humble men, wonderull stuff.
Wow, these legends are playing like a boss despite their older years! Real FKN gamers I love it.
If this was WESTERN DEVELOPER they were going to sue you and demand you to pay their patent
It's great to see these veterans still get excited and show passion for games after all these years. More people from the industry should take notes.
They laughed while enjoying the game, that is more than enough
Thank you so much for organizing this @DevolverDigital, Yoshizawa is a true pro and I'd love to see a more in depth interview one day.
Wow this must have been an amazing experience for you guys!
That was one of the best videos to promote a new game that I have ever seen. Fantastic!
These guys are GENIUS!! Thank you for making Ninja Gaiden!! I still love it to this day!!
This is like the sweetest and most flattering thing that can happen to a team of developers on both sides.
i can't imagine how surreal it must feel that the creators of your inspiration liked your product
Putting the finishing touches on a grant can be the toughest part
Cries in Silksong 😭
2020 and I'm just finding out about this game!
You can tell this was a love letter to Ninja Gaiden!! So damn glad to see these developers who worked on the original get recognized!!
Just picked this game up also! Definitely an all-time favorite now!
It's got to be a great feeling being able to meet devs and play a game you helped to inspire.
This is so cool to be inspired by something and then be able have your creation recognized by those who inspired you.
Legends! I still listen to Ninja Gaiden OST after all these years. Still blows my mind!
These Guys are Legends!

I can gladly say that this game totally delivered! An absolute blast to play through...very satisfying game!
This seems like a dream come true my dudes, congrats!
so cool to see the originators of this kind of gameplay try their hand at this.
This was awesome Ninja Gaiden was my favorite game when I was a young lad and The Messenger is excellent beat the first 2 bosses so far
I was listening to the Autumn Hills theme on youtube today, as I was working, and this video popped up as a recommendation. So cool watching them play this amazing game.

I know about this game because of Jirard The Completionist!
I also knew that Ninja Gaiden creators played it because of him too. What a cool guy.
They seem so nice! Those Castlevania references tho haha. Love everything about this basically.
But yeah, this was def a good way to honor Ninja Gaiden and it's creators, and it's a genius marketing move too. Good job!

Honestly, this video sold me on the game. Thanks!
This game looks absolutely gorgeous!
Wow, Nice video ! 2018 has been another excellent year for gaming
A DLC with the old boys involved would be a nice touch. Or even just help with a few levels and some music themes.
Love how calm and polite they seem
I was just thinking about how awesome itd be for another ninja gaiden reboot. Granted theres been like 40 reboots of it before, but i would be on that so fast if there was one with todays tech.
