The Messenger is home to a lot of speedrun categories, but unfortunately some of them are pretty long. So the speedrun featured in this video is a Linear speedrun, where you play through the linear portion of the game, right until it opens up and becomes more of a MetroidVania.
The Messenger is a sidescrolling action game developed by Sabotage Studio and published by Devolver Digital. It originally released on Nintendo Switch and PC back in 2018, eventually making its way onto PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Imo the devs should be proud they could make a game that flows this nicely in a speedrun, sometimes speedies are so messy and clunky, but a lot of messenger's looks smooth and efficient, it literally looks intentional. Big love for y'all at sabotage 💖

this is hands down the coolest speedrun ive ever watched. the devs not having any idea of some of these mechanics and it being so unreal smooth is so cool. it looks like it is all planned out but the fact that its not and its this crisp is unreal.
'Anything they find is theirs' thats a great stance on speedrunnig. Just because it isnt the intended way of playing the game doesn't mean people can't have fun playing it
And bethesda like "Lets' fix the bug only used by speedrunners" in Doom Eternal...

I'm curious to why the 2nd phase was not considered in the speedrun...
Keeping out of the way of the glitches speedrunners find is great. Reimplementing glitches speedrunners found after you've accidentally fixed them is fire.
This is one of the best 2d platformers ever made
Great game indeed, but it was hampered by lackluster combat.

20:00 the screamingly awesome intro to Glacial Peak immediately blasted in my brain. Not my favorite track but definitely the best intro. Rainbowdragoneyes doing the whole thing in two styles is amazing.

Dear indie devs, this is the example of the type of dev work you should adapt for single player games, part of the fun of playing your games is finding that one unintended mechanic that makes us feel fulfilled. Take notes.

You really should look into Titanfall 2. That speedrun is lit. You've already done one video (Control) with Bryonato who's the WR holder in Titanfall 2.
So far, I’m impressed with the devs. That player had to play within the games parameters, must be a solidly developed game or he’s doing glitchless.
