I downloaded it on my Switch a few months back, since it was on a sale. Man, I COULD NOT stop playing it. The dialogue was so good, especially the ones that are easy to miss. Also, the difficulty was pretty fair throughout. 10/10 game
Alright, so some context for these songs: Melody to Break the Curse is the 16-bit version of the theme for the final stage in the game, the Music Box. There is an 8-bit version as well, and the stage takes place inside of a music box. As a result, all of the obstacles in the stage are synched up to the music, making it a lot of fun to play through. Also, as a bonus, the melody you hear in the first 6 or so beats and repeated throughout the song is the “music box” song, ie, the song that the music box plays in-universe. They then took that short melody and made this whole banger out of it, lol. As for Impact Zone, it’s from the game’s free dlc Picnic Panic, which does indeed take place in a tropical island setting (the base game doesn’t). As for the song itself, it’s actually one of the few songs in the game that doesn’t have multiple versions. There’s just the one you heard, that’s it. The song does take place during the opening gameplay section of the dlc, which is a surfing minigame, so the song obviously fits very well. It’s definitely my favorite song in the dlc (with some tough competition) and one of my favorites in the game overall.
Yay more amazing messenger music!! Thanks! Keep in mind that every single track has 2 versions, an 8bit and a 16bit version. There is a reason for this which I will not spoil! Its insane the feeling you get when going from one version to another ingame. Nuts!

It was not intention to sound like last ninja but to sound like 6581/8580 SID that is used in commodore 64, that is why sound seemed so familiar. Those ringing octaves, that the C64 sound chip makes. Every C64 game sounds like that. They worked hard to achieve that sound feeling but yeah, that's why. There are very few video game systems that generates sound via chip inputs, not just playing samples. That is why there is particular sega genesis sound, but no sper nintendo sound, because genesis was vocalizing instructions while snes just played snippets of compressed samples. In other words, snes can play anything but sega sounds sega.
I missed your other Messenger videos! Music box is my favorite song in the game, both musically and plot wise. Absolute masterpiece of a game - hope you give it a try sometime!
Sabotage Studio's whole MO seems to be making games inspired by the stuff they loved growing up and they wear their heart on their sleeve for sure so far with this game and Sea of Stars and I love them for it. A Melody to Break the Curse is even cooler in context and very mechanical (music box!). Impact Zone is straight up for a surfing level XD. Picnic Panic was a free smaller expansion with a goofier slant beyond the humour already instilled in the base game. And yeah, took place on a tropical island. I've been fighting a bit of an itch to play the game a third time already this year, which is incredible for me because I almost never replay platformers assuming I even finish them to begin with.
I discovered this game thanks to people who loved the game and kept saying it was a great game. It looked like the kind of graphics, music and gameplay I like so I gave it a track, and indeed, it was a great game. You said on the previous video that it must have been done by people who love video games. Yep, you definitely feel that while playing. I'd like to share one thing about it. In the game, every area has a shop. And every time to enter a new area, you can ask the shopkeeper to tell you a story. They're often funny, and have nothing to do with the game, they're just tales and fables you can read if you want to. The last one, that you get right before the end of the game, after being enjoying the game for several hours, hit really hard. Here it is: One last for the road, huh? Why of course, here's one for you. There once was a little boy stuck in a well. It wasn't really clear why he was in there. People assumed he fell while playing, or that someone had pushed him. In truth, he had jumped in there himself. He spent years in the well, wasting away anxiously, feeling utterly inadequate. He had a deep desire to share his ideas with the world, but shame having played such a big part in his upbringing, his will lay broken. That's why the well suited him so perfectly; a place to hide, where he could be alone with his stories, with no one to mock or judge him. A safe life, unfortunately devoid of purpose, but at least shielded from rejection. One day as he was role playing, a wanderer passing by looked down the well. "Hey, what's going on down there?", he asked curiously, intent on joining in on the fun. "Oh, nothing... sorry about the noise", the little boy replied. And thus the well remained silent for weeks. The wanderer, patient and compassionate, sat by the well for all that time. His mind was already made up. He would do whatever it took to get that little boy out of there, so that he could share his stories with the world. The creative flame in that little boy's heart refused to die, and eventually he started roleplaying again. And so the wanderer very cautiously started interacting with him again, telling him that his stories were entertaining, and nothing to be ashamed of. Their friendship built really slowly, based on genuine intentions and trust. A few months later, the wanderer and the little boy were sitting together in the well, laughing and sharing stories. The well became an increasingly habitable place, and passersby started looking in. "I think I'm not the only one who would like to hear your stories." the wanderer mused one day. "I'm too afraid to climb out." the little boy replied. "It's ok", the wanderer reassured him, "let me know when you are ready." Years passed, the little boy's imagination becoming more focused, his thoughts and stories shaping into a concrete little world. And then one day, he decided to take the chance. He would build this world and show it to everyone. The wanderer helped him climb out. Merci Philip. The little boy shared his ideas with creators of all crafts, and to his surprise, they wanted to help building it. And so the small team was put together, and he officially became a writer! I wish I could tell you it all ended in fame and fortune, but I trust you understand it's not what this whole journey has ever been about anyway. Merci Sylvain. Merci Eric. Merci Martin. Merci Michaël. Merci Philippe. Merci Jean-Luc. Merci Carl. Merci Savannah. Merci Magalie.
