lol so i have to vent
so i was given a RES almost ten years ago, when i was like 6-7. i obviously didn't know how to care for him and my parents never bothered to research
we didn't properly care for him pretty much the entire time and i feel horrible for him. i've spent the past six months researching and learning how to make sure he's as healthy as possible. he deserves the world and it seriously pisses me off that it just. never occured to me that my parents don't know what they're doing despite them historically being horrible pet owners

My cousin Amber has a southern painted turtle. She got her 2 months ago and is taking care of her properly, but she will not come up to bask. As a result, her shell is miscolored and has a little dimple in it. Her previous owner said she spent a lot of time in the water, but they had to take her out of the water to get her to bask. My cousin tried this, but her turtle won't stay up to bask. My cousin took her and put her lights over a bin and kept her there for an hour, but she came back to the turtle on it's back. She thought it was probably disstressed and tried to climb out, falling on her back. The turtle also is possibly blind in the right eye. I think she feels more secure in the water because of that, but both of us are at a loss of what to do. How do we get her to bask?? I think she may be getting shell rot or metabolic bone disease or whatever. I hope someone can help her??

I give them food two times a day but they beg for it all the time. So if you know exactly how much amount i should give them, let me know. And they are small really small 1.5 inch hardly.

It is shady most of the day, as to not boil the thing alive, but, during the afternoons, natural sunlight does fall on his basking spot. I do regularly take him out for small strolls in the evenings though, is that a right thing to do?

I give her pretty balanced diet (pellet - veggies - pellet - veggies and so on for a weeks) and give cuttlebone or egg shell once a week. I keep her outdoor so UVB+A shouldn't be a problem.

We just adopted a 4 year old red eared slider. The previous owner was very helpful, he came and helped us set up the tank. We were told to feed him pellets twice a day. He hasn't shown any interest in the pellets in the 5 days that we've had him, I keep netting them out. He did eat a bite or two of romaine, and he does seem to love a bit of scrambled eggs (no oil). Your video on feeding says to feed every few days, and that makes me a little less anxious about his picky appetite, but why won't he eat the pellets? FYI, he is a rather large dude, with a shell of about 7" long, we have him in a 65 gal. Your videos are a lifesaver!
