- This video gives you a step by step guide on how to clean a turtle tank. Below are the instructions:
How Do I Clean a Turtle Tank?
1) The first step to cleaning a turtle tank is to remove your turtle from the tank and put them in a container with water. Make sure they have enough room to be comfortable.
2) Next, you will want to unplug your heater and filters from the outlet. This is because we will soon be lowering the water level, and they can get damaged when they are turned on out of water.
3) Now, grab your turtle's basking platform and any decorations you have in their tank. Take a bucket of the tank water, and was the objects in the bucket. You want to use tank water because it will help conserve beneficial bacteria on the surface.
4) Once everything is removed from your tank, you will want to start draining the tank. The easiest way to do this is with a syphon. However, you can use a bucket if you don't have one. If you are doing a deep clean, I suggest removing about 75% of the tank water.
5) Next, you will want to use a net to clean the substrate in your turtle tank. While it will be impossible to get every last piece of waste, try your best to get the large pieces.
6) You will also want to scrub the sides of your tank with a sponge to remove any algae or mineral deposits that might be attached to the glass. It's important to do this thoroughly, because both algae and mineral deposits will be harder to remove the longer they sit on the glass.
7) Next, you should clean your turtle tank filter. This can be done by removing the sponges and washing them either in a bucket or in a sink. You should also rinse off the shell of the filter if there is any build up on it, as this will help improve your filter's efficiency. Once the filter is clean, you can put it back together and place it back in your tank.
8) Now you will want to fill up the tank with fresh water. The easiest way to do this is to attach a hose or siphon to your sink and run it all the way to your tank. If that isn't an option, you can just refill the tank using a bucket. Once you have filled up the tank, you should add water conditioner to the tank if you used tap water.
10) Now put everything back into the tank and turn on your filters.
11) The last step is to return your turtle to the tank.
I hope these steps will make it easy for you to clean your turtle tank. For me, it only took around 35 minutes to clean my red eared sliders tank. In terms of frequency, I recommend that you clean your turtle tank at least once a month. You should also perform water changes every week or two. - Животные
Please keep making videos your channel is very helpful
Thank you!!
Thanks for the good content and all the answered questions
Thanks for watching!
1:47 the gunk that went onto the sponge is probably the material that the basking platform itself is made from, breaking off
Loved the video keep it up
Thanks!
Where can I get that syphon looks so convenient instead of heavy water lifting
yeah I love it. Here is a link to the one that I use -> amzn.to/45bOM1M
Thank you so much
Ut is😊
Nice video
It says the filter sponges for your filter take about a month to arrive. Is that true? How oftern have you had to buy new ones.
So far I just bought the filter, and then I use other sponges as replacements. Probably not ideal, but it gets the job done.
Do a video on the 25% water change process please!
So the sand stays put then.
Yeah
Can you please put the link to the siphon in the comments section
Yes, here it is: amzn.to/45BN75C
Is cleaning the hard mineral deposits with vinegar safe? If not, what are turtle-friendly ways you can recommend? :)
Yes you can use vinegar! I’d just recommend mixing the vinegar with some water to dilute it a little bit before you scrub your tank with it.
What type of filter do you use?
I use this one: amzn.to/3y6Q3KR . It's pretty cheap and keeps my tank pretty clean.
My turtle ate my sand and I got a $500 vet bill along with her not eating for a month
Oh no, that sucks. $500 is a pretty steep bill. Did they have to perform surgery?
Nope X-rays, meds and bill. That was the first time. Had to go again and it was another $400 because it came out and got stuck so they did another xray, enema and meds. She just ate $10 worth of plants and a sucker fish!
Ouch
@@mcaldwell1did it go well😊

Bro, i have a pair of turtle same bread (red eared slider), and for my turtle I only feed them once every evening like 10-15 pieces of food (for each of them), is it is ok....
Do you know how old they are? If not how long is their shell?
@@turtleholic I have purchased it on the month of Feb in this year. I have some pics of my turtle. If you share me your mail I will send it to you 🙏
How long do we wait for the water to be dechlorinated
Great question. The conditioner works immediately so you can add your turtle back right after you put the conditioner in.
You can also prepare water in a bucket 48 hrs before changing the water, because exposing chlorinated water to oxygen will help evaporate the chlorine
How big is that tank?
75 gallons
How do I make it not smell like actual diarrhea.
You will definitely have to do a full water change. And then clean out the sponges in your filter. If the smell keeps returning, you probably need a stronger filter.
I just got a turtle its a baby and its tank is so smelly the next day after i got him
Why does my map turtle always hungry😭😭😭
It’s common for turtles to always beg for food haha
