I have the Supernote (SN) and the Remarkable (RM). I wanted to like the SN. But it has lag issues and doesn’t feel like the writing experience to the RM. So far, the RM is a better experience for mr. Thx!!
Need help looking for one that I can take two pages of notes and then to attach several pdf pages to my notes. The pdf is coming from an email or web site. Then to send the whole new file by email.
You do great reviews man, I like how you give very explicit WHY YOU’LL LIKE THIS ONE OVER THIS ONE, rather than what most people do which is give really open ended statements about why one would be better over the other
Thats exactly what im confused about note air or remarkable 1 or supernote a5x Im going to try ereader for the first time I recently sold my ipad pro because im looking for something that i can read my medical pdf books on it and write my notes professionally
Omer - if you are looking for medical pdf books I think you have to look at the Onyx Lumi Max - amzn.to/3s2IZaA or the smaller Note Air - amzn.to/3nl1hAy look at those they give you the best reading options. You would then need a paperlike screen protector and you would be really be good to go.
So, the Remarkable 2 is not compatible with other programs for reading. What I'm looking for mostly highlighting and writing notes on pdfs (legal cases, articles, etc.) Can a Remarkable 2 be used to do that? How would I get the pdf onto the Remarkable 2? For example, if I want to get a legal case onto the tablet so that I can highlight certain parts and write notes on it, how would I get the pdf onto the Remarkable 2? Do you recommend a certain one for this kind of use? Thank you!!
Durability of the Supernote is worth mentioning as well. Supernote even provides a drop test on their RUclips page and on their website with the A5x (pen has built in drop damage mitigation as well). The reMarkable is a bit on the fragile side (including the stylus) :-/
Thanks for the review. I got the RM2. To me, the lack of feature was a bonus. I want this to take down notes and replace my notebooks, not replace my cellphone or have any possible distraction.
@@coffeeeater I still feel great about the product, 100%. However, they just changed their structure to a subscription model. I'm grandfathered it, I'll never have to pay, but if I had to pay $8 a month for the cloud stuff, I wouldn't get it. Don't get me wrong, I really love the device, it's way beyond anything out there. It really really feels like writing on paper, the battery lasts forever, and so on. I just refuse to subscribe to any model where I have to pay monthly for something. I use it to prepare all my classes, take notes, fill out pdf forms, even read books.
@@andychow5509 do you happen to know how it stores the notes you take? Is it in a database like Evernote or does it save individual files that you can later access?
@@andychow5509 Same same. I'm thinking this is the perfect device for me for that exact same reason - no distractions, only effective note taking. I also hate monthly paying lol
None of these products' videos show how well you can write printed or cursive text about the size you showed the typed text (say about 12 point max) with a ballpoint-equivalent thin line. They all assume you want big fat lines and only do sketches and such. Have I missed something?
I recently started using the SuperNote A5X, which has a search feature to search on filenames, keywords, or the 'star' symbol. I have not used that feature yet. Since they do not have a North American distribution centre the shipping and import duty adds to the cost of the product.
@@xreptor Tought this before but it's very high up and nearly flush mounted. It's only bad if you often put the pen out of your hand. For longer writing it's ok. Have fun with your device it will be great.
That's what was drawing me towards it. But since this week they charge new customers $8 a month(!) for cloud syncing, even if it's Google Drive or Dropbox instead of their own cloud. That's actually the reason I'm here (and on other videos and websites) to see some competitors.
me too, but so sad to realize that you have to change nibs every 2 months in average :( I think I will swap with A5x which has ceramic pen, so no need to replace nibs
@@Nemesi19781 Hi Nemesi. Have you had to change yours yet? Have you tested that theory yourself? I find nibs all depend on per person basis per amount of writing done, per that person as well. Good luck either way. Eink is so freaking fun.
@@TheHappyWhisk hi,no I am still waiting to get It,it will arrive next week...u are right,it depends on individual writing style, but it something between 3 to 7 weeks as declared from their website (which i saw too late) and is comfirmed by so many comments i found...its frustrating to change it every 1 - 1.5 months....besides you can only buy from their website and Is not that cheap...I was fascinated by the design of their product which made me accept some of their bad limitations (Little storage and no cloud badically)..but the Need to change the pen tips Is frustrating
Is the A5x front lit for reading at night and not stimulating my brain, and can you highlight and make notes with the pen in the kindle app? Thank you Or is the onyx better for that
Let’s say I have a pdf file that’s 100+ pages long and I want to go to page x, would I have to scroll through each page or could I just input the page # and it takes me directly to that page?
which one has the best search capability? I want something that I can concert my notes to text, easily organize my notes and then search keywords that might be found in the content of a note or document.
Thank you! Just what I wanted to learn! Currently leaning towards A5X - like the combination of notes and reader. Looking forward to your next vids on the A5X.
@@colourful2099 - I ended up with the Remarkable 2. I tried the A5X, but the writing "feel" wasn't as good, and ultimately that is what made the difference for me. My use case: I primarily wanted a "digital notebook". I didn't need an e-reader (I use Kindle) or additional features (also have iPad). I really just wanted the best feeling digital notebook experience. As JB mentions, the final choice comes down to your unique use-case. For me, a distraction-free digital notebook, and RM2 does this very well.
@@GaryGirouard Thank you for replying! I find it interesting how much e-ink devices can differentiate between each other to surve each costumer. I'm trying to find a small ebook drawing device that can also be used as a comic and book reading. I also use my iPad, but some note taking just doesn't work on glass for me. Right now I'm leaning towards the A5X.
Hello everyone, I've been thinking about purchasing some kind of e-ink notetaker as I am at university and it is really tireing to be using so much paper. I wanna find sth simple, with as few distractions as possible. I have my Kindle reader allready so I don't look for anything to primarily read books on. I want it to be pretty much "just" paper, as I take a lot of notes and edit PDFs. Also I take these notes in several languages. First I went to Remarkable, but they put in place a new montly fee and I don't like that as the device in itself is very expesive already. Now Im looking at Supernote, which kinda feel like the right choice. Im really not good at picking out electronics, does anyone have any suggestions for my situation? Thanks in advance
Being able to have the Supernote have the kindle app is amazing and with customer support and the Remarkable going to subscription model it's really no choice!
Thanks. I'm still thinking about which one to get. I really want a device that does as much as possible since ... money :) Onyx' ability to function as th hdmi screen of a seperate computer is very attractive. But the A5X seems so good overall.
I would like buy one Supernote A5X. But unfortunately, Ratta don't shipping to Brazil, and here, it will me cost more thar 2000,00 bucks. It's virtually impossible get one right today.
I am note sure which one would suit my needs. One thing which I have not seen is if I can scroll pages, make noetes and bush them up and down, like an unlimited paper roll, with which one can I do that? and the second question is I would need like an explorer tree where I can save my notes, can I do that with all of the e note paper? Thanks
Thanks for the great content! Really torn between the Note 3 & the A5X - which would you say is better for highlighting, annotating ebooks / pdfs & exporting the highlights / notes?
I am seeking a device for school, to download books, documents, and even kindle books. I also want to. E able to take notes on my books, highlight things and simply not have to lug around a lot of books for class. What device is really good for that? Do they have the ability to download entire textbooks and allow me to take notes in them?
You're better off with an ipad in this kind of situation. Not a ton of these devices play well with kindle books aside from the nook. Ipad will offer more flexibility then just get a note taking app
Which one has a longer battery life? As I’m mainly looking for a large screen, with long battery life, and Arabic text friendly for PDFs in Arabic, could you recommend one?
Coach, thank you for your assistance! I really appreciate how well informed your videos are, while maintaining a friendly approach towards all the devices! Please keep posting and go on with your exceptional work! May you have a successful new year!
Hey Stacy if you want really budget you could look at Mobiscribe or Likebook - amzn.to/3nu4AFq - but I think spending the extra is worth it on ANY of these 3 rM2, Note Air or Supernote a5X.... if you are really on tight budget look at Rocketbooks! - They are great and cheap - amzn.to/3bnh3Iy
I actually think they all do a pretty good job of that I haven’t had too many issues with any of them as far as organization of files thanks for asking
What about the supernote a6x? Is that one as recommended as the a5x if I wanted to use it for notes, as reader and have access to other 3rd party apps?
How do you go from handwritten notes to type written notes? Do you OCR a not and just copy and paste? Brainstorming would be great but it’s important for me to organize into a formal document as well. What is your workflow?. Thanks
Thanks for the comment part of the issues is the OCR is not very good on any of these devices. So for me I am using them primary as note-takers which then I save as a PDF in the appropriate folder in Google Drive, most of my major projects are shared with the team through Google docs and spreadsheets. I do planning, note-taking with these devices thanks for asking more workflow videos coming.
@@morningcoach Thanks Coach! Gosh, that's tough. I was hoping to have this workflow 1) Heavy brainstorm/thinking/creative flow with pen(like how we were built) 2) Magically convert through OCR to a text file 3) Paste into and Edit/Format/Beautify in Word/Notion to share with team mates. Thinking in front of a computer isn't ideal. I guess, I'll have to retype everything after writing it down. In this respect, I'm not sure a device like this is that much superior to pen and paper then. Thanks for the feedback!! Really appreciate you taking the time! TY
@@quetas83 That's just one too many steps. Looking for something seamless and make it that much superior to paper. It'd be great to go from handwritten note to text editing with a simple 'share' button. Trying to simplify life.
There is a left-hander mode in the Note which is ok but could be better (I have the Note 3). The problem I have is more pronounced when I'm writing while holding it and it wouldn't be a problem if the tablet is resting on a table: the "maximise page" button in notepad (and when the note is already maximised, the "menu button") is on the top left corner and can't be moved which becomes a problem when I start a new note because I tend to write "upside down" (i.e. with my wrist bent and over the writing) so my wrist can rest on something while writing... but when the tablet is on a table I can write "normally" so my wrist doesn't need to rest on the tablet and thus not touching those buttons by mistake. It's not really a big deal though and I appreciate Boox having that mode. I have never tried any of the others because a simple note taker doesn't meet my needs.
Actually, discovered a big "no no". Even in left handed mode, when I display the note app with my neoreader... you guessed it, the note app is on the right hand side! Definitely something Onyx needs to fix! Grrrrr! Update: you actually can switch the sides of the apps, so I'm much happier now. I've wronged Onyx!
When you say that Remarkable2 is not the best as a ereader, just to understand…what are the limitations exactly? Can I use kindle there? Can I have an online connection to download books from my different archives like epub, pcloud, dropbox or do I have to transfer them from a sd or whatever? Is there enough memory to keep notes and books to read?
No kindle - it is OK but you have to load them in and it works, I just use a dedicated Kobo it works much better for my reader and then use the reMarkable as a notetaker -
@@morningcoach thanks a lot. Still confused though 🤣 I would prefer to have one tablet only…ebook reader, good for writing (better if it’s very good cos I need yo write a lot) and that works well in general…🙌🏼
@@michelaferripersonaltraine8926 Yes that is the issue non of these are the perfect device which like an e-ink iPad. The reMarkable really is only a notebook, for paper replacement and they don't plan to build in other features, the ONYX products can work like you want, but to me I am not a huge fan. Just don't work - quick and fast, but you could look at ONYX BOOX some people LOVE them. You can put Kindle on those -
Nice but in my last months of research i have been comparing android tablets that can do the same and more like the new Xiaomi mi pad 5. Same price range more power and storage and options . I think this will be the way i go. What are your thoughts?
This comment is for anyone reading, I'm very used to drawing black and white and with pencil/pen and paper. I recently bought a Huion graphics tablet and I love it, it's very nice and use Clip Studio which has a lot of functions have gotten used to using it BUT, I feel like I'm better at drawing when it comes to pen and paper but don't like taking weird awkward pictures with weird lighting and not being able to see it well on camera. Can any of these compensate for what I feel is missing? (a real(istic) feeling pen and paper drawing tablet) thank you in advanced to anyone who takes the time to read and leave a comment
Thank you for this super helpful video! I am currently in university and am looking for a device which is particularly strong on the pdf and annotation side. I have particularly been looking at the Boox Note Air and Supernote A5X for this, however cannot really make up my mind between the two. It seems like the Supernote is more functional overall, but I don't like that it cannot zoom in in pdf documents. Any advice on the rundown between these two?
I'm studying electrical engineering and I have the A5X. If you go over to reddit you'll see that Ratta is really active with the community and keep adding patches to add functionality and remove bugs. For example, we now have zoom in PDFs. ;)
I think I'm looking for the same use as you- I'm looking to be able to highlight, zoom in, and write notes on a pdf. Is that what you do with yours? Which one did you go with?
Hi . I have some books in PDF format on my USB drive. Can i move them from my usb to one of these devices and read them on the device? (Sorry for my poor english)
I take a lot of notes for work. Whether it's for something I need to do in the near future. Or info that a customer is giving me. Or instructions that I need to hold onto. I don't need anything fancy and I would like a search function somehow for my notes. Which device would you suggest?
The analysis jumps around too much to be helpful to anyone who isn't already super familiar with each product. I don't know which product you're talking about at which point.
Thank you for a great video. May I ask you if Onyx Note Air is good for academic reading? And another question. Is it good for reading at night? Thanks!
I've been looking at so many different devices and I'm still kinda lost- which would you recommend to a college student who has to read, take notes on, and highlight a lot of pdf documents + wants to use it as a notebook replacement for other note taking?
Hey great videos! I have a question about the durability of these tablets. Which of these tablets is the sturdiest? I'm deciding between the Remarkable 2 and Supernote A5X but am worried about tossing them in a backpack. The Remarkable 2 looks sleek with the leather book folio, but is the book folio enough to protect the tablet in a backpack with a laptop, books, and other things? Note Air and Remarkable 2 both have glass, but Supernote seems to have a more flexible screen, so I'm wondering if this means the Supernote screen is less likely to crack when I have it in a backpack?
@@morningcoach Hi there, great reviews as always. Max Lumi vs Note Air vs Nova3???? Assuming the software is similar. Does the NOVA3 have hand-writing search and hand-writing to text conversion? I can't see it described anywhere and its important to me so I don't have to create text bookmarks all the time like I currently have to do on my surface in OneNote. I want a primary e-paper note taker and reader so I can ditch my Kindle and let my surface be a PC (because OneNote just does not cut it). Think I am definitely edging on the 7.8, sounds like you'd pref the BOOX software over the SuperNote.
I was sold on getting a Remarkable 2 watching the vids. But then I came across the jagged line issue. Curious why its not being talked about or pointed out? Im a pencil artist and use rulers/tools for many lines. The examples ive seen of the jagged lines is utterly unacceptable. Do you know if it was fixed oem?
They are really difficult from a customer service perspective some devices have it the jagged line issue and some don’t but some people have hacked it using some hacks which I don’t wanna do. That’s a great device with some issues but the customer service is just not very good I don’t know if it’ll improve once they get all their shipments through
Hi JB: We are thoroughly confused as to what to recommend to our medical device operators. We are mostly concerned with health effects since many of us have Lyme Disease which makes us sensitive to EMF fields from a chewed up nervous system. Staring at computer monitors is also horrible for us. We need a device that: 1) Eink with no backlight. I loved the Sony PRS 650 for reading. Can the light feature be disabled on these new devices? I'm a bit concerned you are saying R2 is bad for reading (we were leaning toward that). All our reading files are Epub and PDFs. Do you just mean the software is bad or the healthiness of reading is bad, something else? We don't care about Kindle software. 2) WIFI needs to be able to be disabled fully. We absolutely cannot use wireless for health reasons. Is the R2 the only device that can connect to the internet via the computer usb interface? This is very important. I'm not 100% sure R2 can do this? Can they all do this? 3) Functionally we have to take a medical report pdf from a USB drive (which is used to download the report from the medical device) and mark it up with notes. Than email the report to the patient. The quicker this flows the better. 4) We all take a ton of notes from medical research pdfs. The PRS 650 was horrible at this type of thing. 5) Been eyeing that thinkpad from your other video. Any idea if you use the Eink part with the main power off to read a book or something? Or do you have to have the main processor involved? Anyways less power is better, so PRS 650 etchasketch style with more functions is what we are looking for. What do you recommend? Thanks for your help! Great channel!!
The RM2 is OK as a reader it works just not as good as some other devices. Let me get a video together for your other questions. Thanks so much for asking.
@@morningcoach Thanks! Much appreciated! I think I've watched 3 days of content of you and My Deep Guide. More unsure than ever now. If only we had an unlimited budget to buy all of them. lol I guess A5X can edit Word Documents not just note them up? Is that the only one with word processor capability? Maybe add that to the video? The patients would love to be able to do email, write/type, note take, and read, all via a non-wireless connection on an Eink display. Eink really is a game changer for our community. Seems like we are almost there with these new devices!
Note taking no questions the Remarkable is worth its name! For reading I have a likebook Ares : easy to use, the form factor is right for carrying it and it's really intuitive and the note taking is ok. For the total price of the remarkable2 I have all I need. Now I am praying that they keep updating the Remarkable 1 in the future... and if my Ares dies I'll keep this kind of system.
Has anyone tried the speech to text capability of the Onyx Note Air? Curious whether that works and how well. Thanks. Really appreciate your videos, btw!
On my Note Air I use SAMSUNG S PEN TAB S6 LITE for stylus and I've slapped on some screen protector called "ESR Paper-Feel Screen Protector for iPad Pro 12.9 2021", which is essentially what was recommended on another channel (My Deep Guide). It works super well and really gives it a very convincing paper feel when writing. I think the most important factor is the stylus though, and it should be easy to find (it also happens to be magnetic, so you can attach it to the side like the standard pen). Even with the standard Note Air screen protector it feels really good, but I couldn't handle all the air bubbles. The aforementioned stylus comes with two nips, a soft black and harder white one. If you don't roll with a screen protector, you can use the black nips and it's decent, but if you put on a paperlike screen protector and swap to the harder white nip, it's practically perfect :)
When I am out and about doing bids I usually just have my phone, a note 10 that I take notes with. When I get home, I like using my remarkable. Do any of these other devices pair with your phone, so you can use the same app for taking notes on both so I can keep all my notes together?
Thanks for your videos! The details you put into them is awesome. I currently own the Remarkable 2. I love the writing experience but I find myself not using it because although it lets you organize your notes, it doesn't have a search functionality. I'm a Executive Assistant and take tons of notes during meetings and NEED to be able to do a search based on keywords or words that may be in the text of the notes. In researching various products they don't typically indicate if they have this search feature or not and I'm not able to buy any others until I know they have this feature. Can you make any recommendations?
Great advice, JB, I’m sold on Supernote. Has Ratta told you what’s the life expectancy for its rubber-like screen protector when using the ceramic nib? I love the idea of a permanent nib but wonder if it’s best to be safe and just use Lamy’s softer-nib pen which Ratta also sells with its devices. Are you able to compare the writing differences between these styluses when you do your in-depth review of the A5X? Thanks again for another great show.
No I have not found out, but will ask for sure. I only have the HOM stylus but will try and get ahold of some others, though I REALLY like this. But great questions let me do some work on this. Thanks for asking!
Thank you for the video. I have an apple laptop and am looking at a notebook for note taking, reading, and especially reading and notes on PDF and word files. Which one works best in terms of comparability with my apple. Eg does iBooks files work or not. I have always used apple products and getting an android while I use apple laptop is a SCARY step.
Have you ever tried to scan with an antivirus the Onyx Boow note air live in video ? A scan with ESET antivirus for android detect 15 malware (system app) named Android/autoins.O and Android/autoins.M any suggestion to remove these malware ? It seems that the malwares are inside the system code delivered by Onyx :/
title only works on a single word , not a whole sentence. If you want handwriting recognition for sentences , start a word document then write your text, then double tap with your finger and it will convert all the handwriting to text ( it is very impressive , probably better than RM2)
reMarkable 2 is for me, because I AM A WRITER!!! I am not looking for a bunch of Applications, I need to just write and get down my thoughts. If I wanted Apps I would get an iPad. Besides, I am a Mac girl.
The 3 competitors at the beginning of this year for the 10"3 format...The quality of the software updates will make the difference in the coming months !
With the supernote you can export your notes to be saved as a PDF on the device, if you have access to wifi you can sync documents to their own or the Dropbox cloud. I however use a USB-drive (USB type C) to transfer files from my Supernote to other devices.
Thank you!!!! Omer the 'reader' on the reMarkable is OK - it is not really meant for that - where the Android devices have dedicated readers ON THEM - BIG difference. You can get by with the rM but Kindle books etc.... are out. Just really PDF's and non-protected epubs. Thanks for asking!!
Hi JB. Thanks for the great review. Appreciate you don't have the time to show this, but what I'm really interested in, is less how good the writing experience is and more the ability to write, read, highlight and navigate all of the above across a pdf / epub / kindle book. Specifically I want to be able to easily highlight text and attach handwritten notes AND be able to navigate straight to annotated sections, and collate annotations and highlights in one place. I have no interest in using the device for any web browsing of any kind. So with the above specific use cases in mind (given that writing experience or screen glare are not at the top of list), would you go for the, iPad, the onyx boox air or the supernote A5 to get the job done in as efficient, quick and intuitive way?
Hey thanks - if you are looking for that much functionality I would say iPad for sure. Theses devices just don't have that kind of power....to do it effectively.
I got a remarkable 2 and while it has some great functionality and feels great to use, I'm sending it back. Turns out I just need a better reader. The zoom functionality is really frustrating to use, trying to read papers and take notes in a way that makes sense to me was a challenge, and there was no way to copy paste portions of pdfs to notebooks. I'm not sure what to go with now but I just discovered that these e-ink tablets even existed so hoping one of these will check all the boxes.
Curious to know if you ever found a device that works for you? Trying real hard to figure out which device would work well both for reading and handwritten notes and scribbles
I just want a device to replace my pens, notebooks and books. Nothing more. For anything like running heavy programs, or surfing the web I have my laptop... - The Remarkable2 is beautiful and apparently a really good writer but I feel It wouldn't replace my books. -The Note Air to me completely misses the simplicity that made me consider this paper replacement. It makes me wonder if I didn't care about the paper feel and wanted all of those features without the messy android interface why not just get a normal Ipad ($329) with a rough screen protector? - The Supernote A5x seems like the perfect balance. On top of that not only do they listen to their customers but their pen doesn't wear out. I don't see myself ordering pen tips periodically just so that I can write. To me that misses the point of one replacement for my pens, notebooks and books. I just wish I could pay less for less features... This is the only thing that seems a bit counter intuitive with the Remarkable 2 and the Supernote A5x... The Boox devices are still in my mind...
For me, the reMarkable2 replaces my notebooks and it's what you described, a device to replace pens and notebooks. Nothing more. BUT, I don't know what it's like on mine for reading, I read on my Kindle PaperWhite with no plans to read on my reMarkable2. That said, I am or was, an avid paper writer, note-taker, journal book entry person. And aside from a grocery list, I haven't touched paper since the rM2 arrived. Pricy little tool, but I love it. Last night I used it for an online course to study on and I just freaking LOVE my reMarkable2. The cover though, I made my own. Their prices are insane (to me), for covers so I just made my own. Anyway, if you just want a no-frills, this is an excellent device. No noise. No clutter. Just quiet creating. Hope you find what you need. Cheers!
@@JuanMedina95 Anytime. I am making notes on it now. It's so nice. But, beware, there are problems with the rM2 - just so far, none that are mine. But others have valid complaints and that's why, unless someone is looking for a minimalists e-ink, I don't suggest this device. For my hubby say, I'd likely buy him a Boox Note Air - just so he can transfer his maps and writing easily and read gaming PDFs. But for someone like me, who truly wants a paper replacement and nothing more, reMarkable2 for the win.
@@TheHappyWhisk On my side I want a paper replacement as well but also a book replacement or at least for some of my books. Indeed I find the BOOX products very attractive but it just isn't what I'm looking for.. I feel Supernote got the right balance between the superminimalistic Rm2 and the cluttered boox note air... Thank for your replies! Really helps to talk to users that have already tried it.
@@JuanMedina95 Very cool. Sounds like yo have a good idea of what you want then and that's wonderful. Also a thing to consider is pens. With some devices we can use many different no-charge needed pens and others we can't. For me (and I get it if others don't feel this way), but for me, I have to have a charge-free pen. It's a deal breaker for me as I don't want to have to charge a pen, ever. Plus, oh my gosh, I love buying new pens. I'm eying three other German pens now and I currently have the Noris Digital Jumbo and LOVE it! For the reMarkable2, I went with the gray pen, I just like it better than the black marker. But with the black, at least theirs an eraser but 100 bucks for a pen. Much like the covers, I can't bring myself to spend that. Anyway, this is a long comment, I just love the writing on e-ink. Happy Shopping and if you think of it, please come back and let me know how you like the device you picked. Happy Writing, Ivy.
Give me a device that works like OneNote and I will buy it. I absolutely hate Microsoft, probably because I have been working on their products for far too long. One Note is one of my favourite's. Use it every day. Its a way of life for me. Hats off to the MS Development team. Also quite an innovative product because MS are not innovative by any means. They have their finger in so many pies to try dominate every market.
I love that I found this channel! Thank you for all of these awesome videos! I have a question - I like the super note but I'm worried about getting used to an android device when I'm a die hard apple user. I wish apple would come out with one! I'm curious if you think super note would be simple to adjust to as an apple user? Thanks in advance!
HEY HEY Jessica glad you are enjoying the videos - its SOOOOO hard moving from Apple to any of these. The closest to me would be the reMarkable 2 - simple, works, does what you want, just bad customer service, and really don't know where they are going. I have been using an iPad Mini 6 the new one with a matte screen protector that I love... FYI sorry, but they just are not there :(
@@morningcoach Thank you for the honesty! :) I was really loving the idea of the Remarkable, but I don't want to be on another subscription for cloud when I already pay for it in 3 other places... lol! I do have an iPad Air and I love it but I'm hesitant about the paperlike because it doesn't truly protect the glass. I'll maybe just wait a while longer and see where Remarkable takes the brand. I really like the idea of the Super Note but we shall see!
Yours is very good reviews. I want a e-reader which can search words among the tons of notes and get me the result, Which is good A5X or Boox Note Air? Also, I understand that A5X does not have the anti-aliasing but Note Air has. How about Note 3 in this? Iunderstand it is not a glass like Air? or shuld I just go for multi-function IPad? Thanks, hoping your feedback.
I always say iPad it is just does so many things good EXCEPT notes - but if don't mind the glass feel you can get by with that. The A5X is solid the Note Air gets a ton of great reviews but really difficult to set up. Once done though it does a lot fo things - still not an iPad though.
I think you covered too many devices here. You should have stuck with the two you focused on only and it sounds like you played with those two more than the others and for this reason probably prefer them. I've got my eye on the Remarkable 2 and that one did not get coverage at all. It has one of the best writing experiences, layers, you tilt the pen and you can shade which is the only device that does this on the market. two colours, A5 has three. The spec of Remarkable could be better though when compared to other devices. Stuff like 6.4 GB usable storage is not enough - definitely not for the price. Onyx have a colour ebook but that's not as good as these devices in my opinion. I am going to wait. I want the Remarkable two with better support (its not just the device that's important). Remarkable 2 looks the most slick out of all of them. The backlit display on devices is a killer for me. Even on the Kindle Amazon spent years developing it so the light did not hit the retina but the whole point of using EBOOK technology is it is easier on the eyes. So many people dismiss this. Walk into a store and they will say use your ipad. They're totally different and a backlit display sort of defeats the purpose of using e-ink technology in my opinion. Also, I used my ipad with a stylus and it works but the experience is not great. It doesn't feel right writing on glass and the tip is too noisy and I would disturb others. The Remarkable even sounds like a pencil when you write on it. Do they all have this feature. No idea. I am putting a comparison together for things like storage, features, support from vendor, DPI, etc. My wish list: Colour display (Onyx do it but its not that good yet) Mini sd for more storage Better PPI. Kindle Paperwhite is old not and is doing 300 PPI. These are doing 226. Why so low? I read techy books so this is important and why only one or two shades of gray. Why not 16+ A stylus with tips that do not need to be replaced so the plastic tips appeals to me I want a fabulous ebook reader and not just note pad as well. Why does no one cover the ebook side? If I want a notepad only, I can use paper and a pencil Ability to spell/ grammar check Convert my writing to text properly. OCR is old technology Ability to search on key words and that means for all notes and not just titles. A lot of these devices cant do this I want the option to read my ebook. Similar to the 1st gen Kindles before they removed it I don't want unhealthy bluetooth built. I don't use wireles head sets for for health reasons. Nothing wrong with cables I don't need it to be waterproof. Mobile phone companies take note. Unbreakable yes. Waterproof, who cares! i am not going to use it in the rain or when i go diving Good battery life. How do they compare? Speedy charge time Good price Good vendor support. Needs to be light and slick looking. Remarkable 2 is by far the best looking device here and I also think it is the thinnest on the market Ability to lock the device and ideally individual sections/ notes like OneNote Maybe to sync with One Note as well? Ability to use the app on your desktop and sync with the device wirelessely. Ability to zoom in using pinch which Remarkable provide with an update. Do they all have this? Ill take a look at your Remarkable 2 review now... Remarkable is a small company but I personally think they will surpass all these other e-ink tech devices in the next few years if they focus more on support. They are the most slick when it comes to design and their software is excellent is what I have heard but their app has not changed from Remarkable 1. That's a shame but I am sure they will get there.
I am looking for a note taker, seems supernote A5X is a better choice, thanks.
The issue with A5X is the handwriting recognition does not exist for entire files (online recognition.)
I have the Supernote (SN) and the Remarkable (RM). I wanted to like the SN. But it has lag issues and doesn’t feel like the writing experience to the RM. So far, the RM is a better experience for mr. Thx!!
The effort you put in making your content is incredible! Thanks for giving your competent opinion. You are great!

Could you please 🙏 tell me WHERE can I purchase the "SuperNote A5X"? Thanks!
Devon should be able to get it here - supernote.com/products/supernote?variant=40919880368319
The gritty paper and pencil feel of the RM2 is the psychological nudge that boosts my productivity. Any of these cone close to that???
You do great reviews man, I like how you give very explicit WHY YOU’LL LIKE THIS ONE OVER THIS ONE, rather than what most people do which is give really open ended statements about why one would be better over the other
Thank you so much really makes me want to do more videos - thank!!
Can you browse the internet on the supernote?
i m still hesitant : remarkable or A5 ?
Thats exactly what im confused about note air or remarkable 1 or supernote a5x
Im going to try ereader for the first time
I recently sold my ipad pro because im looking for something that i can read my medical pdf books on it and write my notes professionally
Same here man

So, the Remarkable 2 is not compatible with other programs for reading. What I'm looking for mostly highlighting and writing notes on pdfs (legal cases, articles, etc.) Can a Remarkable 2 be used to do that? How would I get the pdf onto the Remarkable 2? For example, if I want to get a legal case onto the tablet so that I can highlight certain parts and write notes on it, how would I get the pdf onto the Remarkable 2? Do you recommend a certain one for this kind of use? Thank you!!
Can you talk about the giant device that is on your back? How much it cost? Can you draw with it? Thanks
Is it possible to share screen of supernote a5x and use it as a "white board" during meetings?
Durability of the Supernote is worth mentioning as well. Supernote even provides a drop test on their RUclips page and on their website with the A5x (pen has built in drop damage mitigation as well). The reMarkable is a bit on the fragile side (including the stylus) :-/
10000% on that - great call!
How do you find the erase function? Does it work reliably so long as fingers are close enough together? How does it compare to normal erasing?
Could the note air and super nite be good for cad software
Thanks for the review. I got the RM2. To me, the lack of feature was a bonus. I want this to take down notes and replace my notebooks, not replace my cellphone or have any possible distraction.
How you feeling now about the decision? Im considering now
@@coffeeeater I still feel great about the product, 100%.
If i had to choose id take the note air, simply because you can do so much more than just read and take notes. But that's just my personal preference.
I recently started using the SuperNote A5X, which has a search feature to search on filenames, keywords, or the 'star' symbol. I have not used that feature yet. Since they do not have a North American distribution centre the shipping and import duty adds to the cost of the product.
I pre-ordered my A5x Lamy today, cannot wait!
I knew you would - pretty cool A LITTLE buggy but it is BRAND new but overall awesome, I am still learning all it can do.
I'am getting slowly used to the Lamy pen but don't understand why there is only one button. I always have to search.

I have a Kindle and a tablet. I prefer the "no distractions" approach of the Remarkable.
That's what was drawing me towards it. But since this week they charge new customers $8 a month(!) for cloud syncing, even if it's Google Drive or Dropbox instead of their own cloud. That's actually the reason I'm here (and on other videos and websites) to see some competitors.
Just got the remarkable 2!
Woohoo! So cool. Hope it's everything you wanted it to be. I love mine!

Is the A5x front lit for reading at night and not stimulating my brain, and can you highlight and make notes with the pen in the kindle app?
Thank you
Or is the onyx better for that
If you want a front lit device I would go Onyx - you won't get that on the A5X though you do get kindle on both.
Thank you Garry I’m glad it helped
Interested in hearing what you ended up with.
@@GaryGirouard hi Gary, did you use different pens with the a5x? If not, which one did you use? Thanks
Being able to have the Supernote have the kindle app is amazing and with customer support and the Remarkable going to subscription model it's really no choice!
so by that do you mean that the reMarkable on a 'subscription' basis is something you do NOT like, correct?
The screen on the Onyx note air is more tan/gray looking compared to the bright white pepper colored remarkable.
Thanks. I'm still thinking about which one to get. I really want a device that does as much as possible since ... money :) Onyx' ability to function as th hdmi screen of a seperate computer is very attractive. But the A5X seems so good overall.
Just hope supernote devices have frontlight as well. That would seal the deal for me. I love their pens. But the lack of frontlight is a deal breaker

I would like buy one Supernote A5X. But unfortunately, Ratta don't shipping to Brazil, and here, it will me cost more thar 2000,00 bucks.
It's virtually impossible get one right today.
WHOOOOOOO we have to get an e-ink store there that is crazy!
Thanks
So... which one wins?

JB... would you review the Sony HUIS Home Controller? It is an e-ink device.
For sure I will look into that for you :)
What would you say is the best budget E-ink/paper device for a writer?
Hey Stacy if you want really budget you could look at Mobiscribe or Likebook - amzn.to/3nu4AFq - but I think spending the extra is worth it on ANY of these 3 rM2, Note Air or Supernote a5X.... if you are really on tight budget look at Rocketbooks! - They are great and cheap - amzn.to/3bnh3Iy
Preference is to have note taking and Kindle .. I am inclined towards A5x
Very detailed review .. thank you !
Thank you for your review. Do you think Onyx Note 3 would work better than Supernote A5x in writing experience and organizing notes ?
I'm looking to find a digital device primarily for a daily planner, can u recommend one? Thanks
I second this question
Which one does a better job when organizing the notes on a computer in your opinion?
I actually think they all do a pretty good job of that I haven’t had too many issues with any of them as far as organization of files thanks for asking
What about the supernote a6x? Is that one as recommended as the a5x if I wanted to use it for notes, as reader and have access to other 3rd party apps?
Its SMALL but a GREAT device..... I don't know if it has Kindle yet but I think it does will get more information :)
I was hoping to have this workflow
1) Heavy brainstorm/thinking/creative flow with pen(like how we were built)
2) Magically convert through OCR to a text file
3) Paste into and Edit/Format/Beautify in Word/Notion to share with team mates.
Thinking in front of a computer isn't ideal. I guess, I'll have to retype everything after writing it down. In this respect, I'm not sure a device like this is that much superior to pen and paper then. Thanks for the feedback!! Really appreciate you taking the time! TY
@@superdubb even if the ocr isn't the best, you can always export your notes and use a better ocr program in your computer
@@quetas83 That's just one too many steps. Looking for something seamless and make it that much superior to paper. It'd be great to go from handwritten note to text editing with a simple 'share' button. Trying to simplify life.
@@superdubb in that case, from what I have seen, the remarkable ocr is the worse. The others work fine
Which one runs LectureNotes? Oh ... another important question: how they behave for left handed people? Thanks!
The rM2 is awesome but the Supernote is for sure more durable, they have even done drop tests..... so for sure if that is a concern Supernote for sure

Hi JB: We are thoroughly confused as to what to recommend to our medical device operators. We are mostly concerned with health effects since many of us have Lyme Disease which makes us sensitive to EMF fields from a chewed up nervous system. Staring at computer monitors is also horrible for us. We need a device that:
1) Eink with no backlight.
Thanks for the review. Q, how did you improve the writing on the Note Air? You mentioned using a different stylus, could you point out the brand.
@@katrinegadegaard1241 many thanks dear. I recieved mine and so far so good. I'll keep your advice in mind.
Can you make any recommendations?
did you ever find one?
Looking for the same thing, have you had any luck finding something searchable?
I love ur love towards these devices.. ❤️
Thank you very much!!!
Nice question! I hate physics but I think if the nib doesn't wear out the screen has to.
I do know the remarkable 2 has apps for ipad and iphone.
Have you ever tried to scan with an antivirus the Onyx Boow note air live in video ? A scan with ESET
antivirus for android detect 15 malware (system app) named
Android/autoins.O and Android/autoins.M any suggestion to remove these
malware ? It seems that the malwares are inside the system code
delivered by Onyx :/
Late to the catch, but does the supernote have the ability to export text to google docs?
title only works on a single word , not a whole sentence. If you want handwriting recognition for sentences , start a word document then write your text, then double tap with your finger and it will convert all the handwriting to text ( it is very impressive , probably better than RM2)
U Rock!!!!! I just reached out to Supernote about this
I was hunting everywhere to find out how that works thanks so much
reMarkable 2 is for me, because I AM A WRITER!!! I am not looking for a bunch of Applications, I need to just write and get down my thoughts. If I wanted Apps I would get an iPad. Besides, I am a Mac girl.
Does anyone have experience with surfing the internet with these for light reading?
The 3 competitors at the beginning of this year for the 10"3 format...The quality of the software updates will make the difference in the coming months !
You ARE 1000% on it for sure!
Great video! I am looking for a good note taker that I can organize my notes on the device and/or send to my Surface Pro. Any recommendations?
I forgot to add, I don’t want to use a phone or tablet app to save/upload.
With the supernote you can export your notes to be saved as a PDF on the device, if you have access to wifi you can sync documents to their own or the Dropbox cloud.
I however use a USB-drive (USB type C) to transfer files from my Supernote to other devices.
What do you mean by "remarkable is not a good reader"?
I really like your videos
Thank you!!!! Omer the 'reader' on the reMarkable is OK - it is not really meant for that - where the Android devices have dedicated readers ON THEM - BIG difference. You can get by with the rM but Kindle books etc.... are out. Just really PDF's and non-protected epubs. Thanks for asking!!
@@morningcoach And the hyperlinks don't work in the documents, so in-document navigation on the rM is hampered. :-(
@@EVERYTHINGcpo Great points!!!
@@morningcoach Thanks so much for this JB. Keep up the great work.
Pricing on all is just Too high.
Cheers!
@@TheHappyWhisk thanks for the response! Very useful!
Very thoughtful, thank you. I am hooked on OneNote; any of these work well with OneNote?
@@morningcoach Thanks.
Basically if you are going to read a lot of pdf files and you want a lot of free ebooks, so Onyx is your choice 😋
My wish list:
Colour display (Onyx do it but its not that good yet)
Mini sd for more storage
Better PPI. Kindle Paperwhite is old not and is doing 300 PPI. These are doing 226. Why so low? I read techy books so this is important and why only one or two shades of gray. Why not 16+
A stylus with tips that do not need to be replaced so the plastic tips appeals to me
I want a fabulous ebook reader and not just note pad as well. Why does no one cover the ebook side? If I want a notepad only, I can use paper and a pencil
Ability to spell/ grammar check
Convert my writing to text properly. OCR is old technology
Ability to search on key words and that means for all notes and not just titles. A lot of these devices cant do this
I want the option to read my ebook. Similar to the 1st gen Kindles before they removed it
I don't want unhealthy bluetooth built. I don't use wireles head sets for for health reasons. Nothing wrong with cables
I don't need it to be waterproof. Mobile phone companies take note. Unbreakable yes. Waterproof, who cares! i am not going to use it in the rain or when i go diving
Good battery life. How do they compare?
Speedy charge time
Good price
Good vendor support.
Needs to be light and slick looking. Remarkable 2 is by far the best looking device here and I also think it is the thinnest on the market
Ability to lock the device and ideally individual sections/ notes like OneNote
Maybe to sync with One Note as well?
Ability to use the app on your desktop and sync with the device wirelessely.
Ability to zoom in using pinch which Remarkable provide with an update. Do they all have this?
Ill take a look at your Remarkable 2 review now...
Remarkable is a small company but I personally think they will surpass all these other e-ink tech devices in the next few years if they focus more on support. They are the most slick when it comes to design and their software is excellent is what I have heard but their app has not changed from Remarkable 1. That's a shame but I am sure they will get there.
