My Remarkable which was a gift was recently stolen and I was troubled with the idea that spending the money to replace it might not be the best use of my funds, Although the Onyx book is quite a bit more expensive its feature rich additions means the one off extra cost is ore than covered in benefits. you saved me a lot of time shopping around and checking in stores

      @@bodendorfer I had the SNA5X (was good) it lacked “integration to my workflow”. After 2 weeks w/ SNA5X I realized that distraction free was not true…in that after having action items in my notes I’d have to go back thru multiple notes to physically “capture” action items = distraction. I moved to the NA2+, which provided integration into a capture task tool like Todoist, so in the moment you can send to Todoist and get back to your notes/brainstorming/reading. Thx

    I have my Note Air 2 for a few months now but never got really into the OneNote. Not sure what it can do or integrate in my workflow. If you have hints about optimizing the app into the Boox, that would be great. I feel like I can never find the right refresh values that would be perfect.
    Another thing I would like to do is to share a link of a page that I am annotating so people could see changes in real time. As a teacher in online classes, that would be of tremendous value, but it looks like there is a strong delay. Not sure if it is my refresh options, or the OneNote servers. If you have hints about that, would be much appreciated :)

    Hey Branden! Awesome review! You have helped me make the decision to get the Onyx Boox Note Air 2 plus. Another Question! Are you aware of the new kid on the block called the Supernote X series? The standard tablet is going for $385. Its operating system is Chauvet-handwriting middleware based on Android. Battery is 3800 mAh, Processor is PX30 Quad-core Cortex-A35, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage. You can also handwright you emails and attach files. You can integrate kindle, read e-books, pitch zoom, Mark up PDFs and export with annotations. Future review perhaps?

    Thank you for your review. I’m trying to choose now. I only care about hand writing notes to ditch my multiple notebooks, but I’m trying to figure out what’s best to search for info in my previous notes. How do you find what you need? Is there a key word search on either of these? Or do you search in google drive after you sync? I hope I make sense

    • @bodendorfer
      @bodendorfer  Год назад +4

      So that is a GREAT QUESTION! So with the remarkable, you have to be a little proactive and use tags to index your notes. Then you can search the tags and display content that is related to the tag. As for the Boox, if you use an app like OneNote, you can search your handwritten text. I have a few videos showing you how to do this. Let me know if you want me to share.

    I have Rem2 before it launched officially.
    I have gotten quite frustrated with it's closed ecosystem the same way I've been amused by it.
    It's a nice tool to replace the paper. Good, distractionless device.
    Until you want to get longer random texts to the tablet or photos that aren't converted to .pdf.
    I like the book part as there are a lot of epub-s around and send to Remarkable extension on Chrome in PC and phone works also magic.
    I've read numerous Wiki and newspaper arcticles on remarkable this way.
    And then it gets dark and I can't read in the corner. Great. And then comes out coloured ePaper tablet. Great.
    Other than that. Distraction free device that really feels like paper. Good for quick sketches, keeping scores, digitizing signatures or other forms of handwriting and taking quick notes.
    Onyx experience looks way smoother though. It'll save you some frustration maybe.

      I have a note air 2, they have led lights as a top layer which shines down on the screen. You have the possibility to turn off the light.
      But the screen is closer to the rink layer without the added leds - so there are pros and cons for both devices there.
      The problem with onyx is that they want it all and there interface is confusing, and updates can sometimes be strange.
      I would suggest that you also take a look at the Supernote A5X - it’s an Japanese e ink product without led lights - but with good software and a team that keeps improving it - they also have hyperlinks witch the onyx do is missing

      Personally, I think the Book would be a better choice. A lot of schools use google docs, sheets and such and this would allow them to open those items and even connect a keyboard if needed. As for a planner, I think the academic planner is the prefect choice.

I currently print out the pdf on paper and fill in the different sections on the printed paper and then keep paper charts (I know! Don't laugh! LOL) Anyhow, trying to go completely paper-free in 2024! So, can I use Boox to import in my pdf session forms and then write into the sections on them AND THEN send the completed filled-in sheet to my clients by email...? I'll be short and concise:
    Remarkable = marketing scam milking consumers who didn't put the research in which devices are out there, the monthly feature plans clearly show that.
    Onyx = quality & quantity first, new feature releases are always worth it. It's not a remarkable killer, remarkable was never alive in the first place besides their fancy marketing.
    Bought my onyx boox note air 1 instead of the RM2 and have not regretted it ever since.
    Using it for 2 years now, 0 failures, solid battery, solid storage space.
    Friend of mine got the RM2, 6months and it stopped working for no reason and he had to get a new one from RM for free (good service, but still)
    Can't wait for the Boox Note Air 3
    Fav feature: recordings one notes for when you can't be taking enough notes in meetings as being present in the moment is more important, but you also dont want to miss anything 👌

    I think the Onyx Note is similar to the Kindle Scribe in functionality but I prefer the Remarkable 2 for distraction free, optimal focus environment and high level learning tool. I definitely agree that the Onyx OneNote integration is a plus but when I need to isolate myself from all temptations then my Remarkable 2 is my only option. I don’t need nor desire multiple devices (phone, iPad, Computer) to keep track of. The Remarkable 2 with Connect allows me to archive and retrieve my notes from a single location. Onyx Note is a great product but nothing can replace my iPad Pro for that range of functionality but the distraction level is super high.

    • @bodendorfer
      @bodendorfer  11 месяцев назад +2

      So the Kindle Scribe and reMarkable are more comparable than the Onxy Boox and the Scribe. The Boox runs off an Android mobile OS, so there is a lot more access to apps. But if you are looking for a productivity monster, the iPad is the place to be.

      same. People don't get it that Remarkable 2 is made for optimal focus. and imagine having 4 split screens in 1 screen that's crazy enough to destroy your focus. True, Ipad is there for all the functions we need. Remarkable 2 is there for focus, isolation and deep work

      Great question. So I use apple products as well. I use onenote for note taking which syncs across devices. Now when it comes to onenote. I use the book ultra and all my notes sync between the device and my apple gear.

    Actually, you've convinced me i did. I have an Android tablet, in that i have a Chromebook, my phone, a desktop, and the Remarkable was to be for non-distracting writing. Watching this review made me realize the Onyx would put me right back into distractions again, the very reason I bought the Remarkable. This gave me the answer i wanted. Well to be fair about the distraction thing: On the iPad you have the choice of turning on a focus mode, where you can turn off notifications, or allow certain notifications to reach you during a set period of time. Or just turn on airplane mode.

      I have notice that too. Why do you think remarkable users get so defensive?

    • @stevenprosser8813
      @stevenprosser8813 Год назад +5

      @@bodendorfer I'm not too sure, but it feels similar to how some get about apple products, or in the console world I think Xbox users more so than playstation users would get some weird entitlement that they have the best gaming system 😅. I guess it's the fanboy/fangirl affect that ReMarkable 2 has established in the few years they've existed; which is super bizarre!
      My only guess as to why the users feel it this way is that ReMarkable has spent a fortune on ads convincing people that their device is THE BEST for workers, students, professionals, etc. that want a distraction free work space with the "best writing feel" like writing on paper. And while the writing experience is great, I personally felt the ReMarkable 1 felt more "paper" like as the screen was plastic with more grit. The ReMarkable 2 has returned to using glass that I think has a slight coating on it, etc. According to GoodEreader the absolute best writing feeling is the latest Fujitsu Quaderno which has the similar plastic feeling/grit of ReMarkable 1.
      As for distraction free, you can make ANY device distraction free. I had a Samsung tablet that I used for reading before I got into Eink devices. It had literally only the Kindle App, libby, Marvel unlimited, and comixology (now I would add dc universe and perlego to it as I have to my Boox devices 😁). I had no email, notifications were turned off, etc. On my Boox I have kept email, buy removed notifications. I personally have no temptation to browse the web on Eink really, so for me I hold any of those Boox devices and they have the same distraction free space as the ReMarkable 2.
      I think for most users ReMarkable 2 is the first and for a while only Eink writing epaper device that they have ever heard of. But they could choose from Supernote, Fujitsu Quaderno, Onyx Boox Nova series, Note series and Max Lumi series; Bigme has around 10 or so devices, Meebook has a few, both Meebook and Bigme have Google Play like Boox; Sony DPT Quirklogic Papyr, Hanvon, Hyglaze, the PineNote (identical physically to ReMarkable 2, but significantly cheaper with no subscription with 128gb of storage and I believe 4gb of RAM vs. ReMarkable 2's 8gb and like 512mb RAM or something like that?) I know it's a bit finicky as it's apparently super open world for developers to play with and then as common users we have to possibly pick which software to download for writing latency, etc.? I don't totally get PineNote so anyone interested do more research 😅.
      ReMarkable is also fairly new on the scene, Boox has been around for like over 10 years, but have never pumped in the money into their ads the way ReMarkable has. So my guess is that ReMarkable users have less knowledge about the competitors that exist out there and once they do stumble on them and hear their device may be inferior they get defensive, because everything they've ever heard from ReMarkable has told them they are the greatest device, etc. 😅. AS A REMARKABLE user I would hope that this fairly new subscription service would add many new software features and perhaps beef up the customer service department that is often complained about it! 😅 instead they seem to keep pumping out ads
