Superb. This is just what I like. Perfectly pitched, it really enriches my viewing of games. Other shows take note! Viewers want to see which throws Jimmy G can hit vs coverages. Be like John Madden and dig into specific on-field film details. Sports fans aren't dumb!
This is exactly the kind of content that sets this channel apart, the public WANTS to know and understand the game more deeply. Thank you for making it possible Brett, shout out from a fan in Brazil.
It’s criminal that he doesn’t have a million subs. I show him to all my friends when I need to prove points only for the Kollman Kurse to come back and bite me in the ass. He makes understanding such a complex game so easy and you end up seeing the game so differently on Sunday’s. I find myself reading coverages and DB leverages now and I try to make the read before the QB does. Thank you for providing such great content Brett it really makes the game we all love so much more fun and interesting to watch.
I live in the UK. Mahomes brought me to watching nfl. But you my friend made me appreciate what it is all about. Mahomes made me like it but you made me an addict!
Excellent breakdown! One of the things that has been overlooked the last couple weeks and going into this game is how well the 49ers defense has been playing. Also the 49ers were down 4 RBs that game and had to start a rookie Trey Sermon. They also weren't featuring Samuels in the running game as much as they are now. It should be a great game as I see the 49ers running the ball much more effectively than the 1st meeting giving them a much better chance at the upset at Lambeau.
Kyle Shanahan was also in a play calling slump, and 49ers offense didn't really start doing anything until late game. 49ers are vastly better team in every way since then, although Jimmy G is probably still around the same, showing flashes of greatness with complete stupidity and poor decision making.
I absolutely love the deep theory you dive in to with this video. There are so few, maybe zero, channels creating these sorts of analysis videos at this high of a level. Truly remarkable.
This is refreshing content, sir. 11 years coaching football youth to high school and i always enjoy finding other people who speak this particular language. I was going to create my own YT channel, but I think I'll just watch yours instead.
I’m a RUclips 1.75x speed guy just cause it takes a long time for some to get to the point. I watch yours at normal speed because the insight you provide is unreal and not a moment of my time is wasted. Thanks Brett!
You will probably mention it, but @ 8:30 as a coach, you WANT your HB in space vs the CB. That is the scheme, getting one of your best ball carriers in space vs their worst tacklers, the CBs. That is why WRs block safeties, not CBs. Mitchell isn't Henry, but HBs should be strong enough to go "beast mode" on a CB with a stiff arm or shoulder charge. No disrespect to the CB, but if your HB can't beat him, then you don't have a good runner. I know Deebo would laugh off that CB. Edit: Ah, it was Sermon. That's why. A rookie in week 3. Mitchell will rock that guy's world and score down the sideline if GB tries to play run defense like that again.
Hey Brett, could you do a video on the Bears offense and if there was any adjustment of the offense at all for the three different quarterbacks we used?
Thank you so much for bringing out the tactical side of football for illiterates like me who never played the game in school I love strategy games and learning this side of sports, but it's so hard to come by in sports media. Much love to you brother, happy 2022!
I really wish people on tv could give this type of analysis at least on espn. This is what people want and it’s nice to learn new things that give you a better understanding of the game
We need more videos like this breaking down schemes the basics the nuance of offense and defense. We all want to grow in our knowledge and it starts with this stuff
Great video Brett. This gave me a little insight into something Aaron Rodgers said as it relates to reading a defense pre-snap. He mentioned that he reads the defense pre-snap from the defensive front first, and sometimes doesn't even look at the coverage because the front tells him all he needs to know. I figure that's the complete opposite of what most other QBs do. It still doesn't make much sense to me how that's his process and that it works, but this video gave me something of an idea. He claims that's how his QB coach from early on in his career always taught it.
As great as it is to investigate success like this, I think it'd be interesting to devote a video to something a team does *really* badly, what they've tried to do to change it, and if that works/what could work instead
Yes. I love all of this type of content. I'm addicted to football and also addicted to this channel. Also other very good youtubers I watch respect the hell out of you. So do I. Keep it up. You're the best at what you do as far as deep dives
Episodes like this are what make you one of the best football content producers and educators available to plebians like me! Thank you for helping me understand and appreciate this wonderful game even more Brett!
Hey Brett. Love the content. The technique that Chauncey Rivers used on the zone split play is called wrong shouldering. We use it at the high school I coach at. Kittle wants his inside shoulder to knock him outside to create a hole, therefore Rivers gives Kittle the “wrong shoulder” to get into the gap. Didn’t know if you had this terminology. Great video as always.
You were right that this topic is very meaty. At the same time it the impact of the run fit doing well does force opposing offenses to dig deeper into what else they are good at doing. In the case of the Niners despite having a not-so versatile passing game despite having two of their BnBs that they execute so well being taken away (explosive runs and passes), they still flexed their execution on the quick passing game and it was working out.
What a game by the 49ers. You need to do a video on DeMeco Ryans and how incredible he is doing at protecting his QBs, disguising coverage, and making in game adjustments.
Jesus, this is such an eye-opener with regards to how important talent, scheme, and coaching are in this game and how easily a talented team can suck if it's not disciplined and well-coached (e.g. disciplined).
In my experience, when teams copy a gameplan that worked against the same team the last time and they have won, they loose now (or at least their gameplan fails). Mostly (what I guess is) its because the loosing team puts much more effort in the work after the game and in resolving their errors. The winning team doesn't, of course beacuse the gameplan worked, so no need to fix it. But the next time, the loosing team is prepared (if the coaching is adequatly of course)
@@kghostthegreat true, that's not unlikely. But Brett said in the video they would copy the gameplan and at least for the first half of the game I agree
How was this a curse the packers defense dominated all night, it was the special teams and rodgers choking in the playoffs again that lost them the game.
Love the content! Your breakdowns are easy to understand and engaging and your Film Rooms are super informative (and I'm a Bootleg subscriber, as well). I really dug this week's topic because, as a general trend, offensive plays, players, and systems are typically featured on these types of videos. However, as a defense-loving fan, I appreciated the deep-dive, particularly how each level ties to the strength (or weakness) of the other. I'd love to see how the top coordinators scheme pressure from the front seven. Love your work, please keep it up!!! Make a "Gritz Blitz" hoodie and I just might have to buy one!

I remember my 1st day of camp in college and we were going through run fits. Most confused I have been in my life up to that point, that was until we installed our 3rd down package with 500 different blitzes
This game is giving me similar vibes to the Packers-Titans game from last year minus the snow. A big powerful running team has to come into GB in the cold and try to play offense. I have the unfortunate feeling the niners will be far better at it than the titans though.
The Titans rely on a single back for the most part…the 49ers as you probably know have a more intricate system designed to produce yardage out of anyone (and I mean ANYONE)
I really wish NFL broadcasts could show this better. It's almost impossible to see this in real time. The best I can do is recognize two high safeties or man, watch for motion as a tip-off to man, and maybe a few other superficial things. But for the most part, broadcasts only show the results of what Brett shows us in his videos. It's why I never miss these videos; they show me how much I did miss when watching the game.
Great analysis. I think both teams have grown & changed since week 3. Niners have an emerging Elijah Mitchell as well as utilizing Deebo in the backfield means the Niners have way more speed than they did when they were handing off to Juice during the Packers game. The niners fastball is faster, but the Packers also have emerging players that weren't during the last match-up. It's gonna be a great game & I think it'll be within 3 points.
