- In this video, I review and operate, the latest release of Santa Fe Northern's from Lionel! For this model, in particular, it is painted in the famous and colorful Blue Goose! I hope you enjoy this video and happy railroading!
Also, I am sorry that I did not put this video out on RUclips sooner but with the combination of family and work, producing videos plays second fiddle. Thanks for understanding and for your support.

That lamp post around the 25 minute mark when it was dark looked really good. Great review, thanks for sharing.
Happy to share! Thanks for the nice comment, and happy railroading!
The Paint Scheme just makes this engine even better than it already is! Also thanks for sharing the history and fun facts on the real thing!
You're very welcome! At first I thought this locomotive was going to be another "oh it's just another random SF locomotive that Lionel pulled out of the number pool," but thankfully I was mistaken. Thanks for the nice comment, and happy railroading!
Rick’s Trains & Materials,
This is the best product review video I have ever seen on You Tube. You provide an excellent and accurate description of the product from the tip of the cow catcher to the end of the tender. Great video.
I am glad you think so, and that you enjoy my content! If you liked this video, you may also want to check out my video on the Lionel SF 2-10-10-2.
Another great video with a cool paint scheme!
Great review and a beautiful engine. I have the TMCC SF Northern 3751 and love the thing.
Glad you enjoyed the review! The TMCC version is still a great model. Thanks for watching, and happy railroading!
great review keep up the good work
Will do! The next video should be a Lionel catalog look through. Thanks, and happy railroding!
Fantastic review. Bought one too. However, I did not think the actual blue color matched the catalog color. More powder whiteish blue than silverish blue. Not sending it back either. Appreciated your detailed overview. Mine may only ride the inside of a display case just like the Juniper and her cars. Decision not yet etched in stone. Then again watching your engine move may turn the tide. It would have been nice if Lionel would have added water smoke effects to tender or blow down effects. It would be nice to have had the option offered Dear Lionel and what’s up with the swinging bell gone the way of the Buffalo!
I am glad you enjoyed my video! Yes, I will admit the blue is a little different than shown in the catalog and I would also say a little different than the prototype. Then again, the prototype was given multiple versions of the "Blue Goose" paint scheme over its years of service. Also, personally, I think you should at least let it stretch its legs every once in a while. Thanks and happy railroding!
If you ever decide to sell id be interested!
@@will2926 Will let you know if I do. Still in the box. I haven’t bought a display case yet either. Thanks for interest.
The tank mentioned at min. 16:49 is not an air tank, it's a heater for the very thick "bunker C" fuel oil.
That's right, I forgot that most SF locomotives were equipped with steam heaters to heat the oil. Sorry about that and thanks for pointing that out to me!
Well done video!
Thanks!
A little weathering paint and that train will look amazing
Agreed!
Why are there no lighted number boards on this model? Great narration and video by the way! 👍🏻👍🏻
Good question, they are actually located on top of the boiler behind the main stack. This was a common characteristic on Santa Fe steam locomotives.
That's really A-sharp looking engine and tender
Yes it is. When I first took it out of the box the paint scheme just blew my socks off! In my opinion photos and videos does not give this paint scheme justice.
(Lee)great review, thank you
Thanks Lee and your welcome!
Also, the 3765 class lives on in the form of the soal surviver number 3768, she is one of 9 surviving atsf 4-8-4, 3 of them are 3751, 3759 and 3768, and the other 6 are 2900's and thoes are 2903, 2912, 2913, 2921, 2925 and 2926. Interestingly enough, 2926 is beyng restored for excursion service
Very interesting! I knew about 2926's restoration and last I heard they are nearly done with her. Thanks for watching, and happy railroading!
Gotta say, I really didn't like the way this looked in the catalog.... But it turned out beautiful!!
Agreed! At first I thought well, I guess Lionel is going to mess up another great locomotive, but it turned out great! Thanks for watching, and happy railroading!
Hi
What passenger cars go with this?
Thanks
You can take some streamlined SF passenger cars and they should look fine behind it. You could also pull some MTH Blue Goose passenger cars behind it as well but they are very hard to find and very expensive. Thanks, and happy railroading!
Who's track u use???
Atlas???
I do use Atlas track and switches. At first, I was going to use Lionel fast track but I have experienced long term problems with it. Now, I will say Atlas switches are not very good. I would suggest using Ross Custom switches instead but still use Atlas track.
I’m taking this home with me whether you like it or not and the passenger cars I’m taking them too but you can keep the big boy and EM-1
Thank goodness! Not the Big Boy especially since its owners manual was signed by 4014's engineer Ed Dickens.
@@TrainMaster04 the big boy is to big anyway the 4-8-4 is perfect
@@yankeesandy2545 Yeah a Big Boy is not for faint of heart.
@@TrainMaster04 okay so im taking the 4-8-4 and the cars *most legit hacking ever* and sent..... wait *sees BIG BOY* nooooooooooooooo i don't want its to heavy at 11 pounds or something
Take it back keep your BIG BOY I’m taking the 4-8-4 and the passenger cars
Your great review of this Lionel fantasy model inspired me to start a combined kitbashing project to make a vintage Rivarossi HO Blue Goose look a bit more realistic and turn the resulting remainder of a gutted BLI Santa Fe Northern into my idea of what No 3765 might have looked like, had it ever been built as a semi-streamlined 4-8-4. Here is the result of my experiment: ruclips.net/video/iQGGeKog0jw/видео.html. Thanks for the inspiration.
I am glad my video inspired you so much! Also, great project idea, I really do like it!
@@TrainMaster04 Thanks! Got to get myself a better camera and get my layout finished - whenever that will happen...
@TrainMaster04 - Does this model have a DROP PLATE between the ENGINE & TENDER?
It looks like an OIL Tender and not the typical Coal Tender.
It does not have a drop plate. However the distance between the locomotive and tender is pretty close.
