  • Basalt rocks are some of the most fascinating and photogenic rocks in the world. They make landscape photography an absolute pleasure and can create some strong compositions. Kálfshamarsvík is loaded with basalt! The beautiful lighthouse works as a fantastic focal point for all the leading lines and repetitional patterns the basalt can make. In this episode, I explore this small cove and share how I find new locations to photograph. Kálfshamarsvík is definitely on the must-see list of Iceland. Kálfshamarsvík is neither secret nor hidden, but you will have to get off the beaten path to find it.

Nice to see someone getting so excited about a location - I was afraid that if you grinned anymore the top of your head would fall off 😜. Looks like a fantastic place to visit. And thank you for reminding us the Iceland is not only the ‘iconic’ locations put has plenty to offer those prepared to look a little closer.

Went here last September under your recommendation. Had some wonderful shots. It was cloudy but decent light until the clouds lifted a bit and the sun peaked out from under and gave me a bright light. It was quite spectacular and a memory I will never forget. Thank you for recommending this basalt column Field.

Having been to the giant‘s causeway I believe you would be amazed of the atmosphere and beauty of the Irish landscape. Giving further thought; you need to go. Playing catch up with your videos, so just getting to the Iceland trips now and reviewing them. All beautiful. It was great to see your first as you started doing your videos and to see you get better and more relaxed from video one to the following year, you seemed much more at home. I love the Basalt rocks. I had the opportunity to visit Ireland a few years ago and see the Giants Causway. A must for anyone. It has some beautiful aspects, both locations are beautiful, I got some fantastic pictures, and the crashing sea against the rocks and the coast was spectacular. Beautiful pictures as usual Mads.

HI Mads! Hitting the like button for your videos is always easy, commenting in a few sentences is far more difficult. The drone footage was very good, giving me a quite thrilling impression of this particular site, I must agree that it should be easy to find images of this area online. Your discussion of the compositions you worked always leaves me with a deeper understanding of the subject, thank you for that. Today's images were breathtaking (grossly understated). But for me, the passion you hold for this location was completely infectious and will spill into my day in a most productive and enjoyable way. So you get to be the star today. Sorry for the wordiness, but this is the condensed version...:-). Cheers from BC and thanks for sharing!

I discovered this place six years ago. This year I had the luck, after raining days, to take pictures of it in full light. I absolutely find this place very good. I have to change my kind of travelling, because I am going too quick and too far. My aim to visit the northern highlands of Iceland in three weeks was good, but when I see, what you Mads made of the places, i really have to take a motorhome instead of my own car, to have the possibility to come to the place and rest there. I know Iceland quite well, because i was there 16x. ( 4 time in Febraury). It is my land of dreams. Thank you for your special views with the drone.

The running paid off! Great timelapses. The last image and second to last are my favorites. Excellent work Mads. Always love starting my day watching your newest episode! I’ll certainly be making the journey here on my next trip to Iceland. 👍🏻

Hi Mads. Lovely video from a fabulous location. Love the images, especially the sunset shot at 13:55 - stunning ! Amazed that the location isn't well known in Iceland, but I guess it will be now ;). Many thanks for sharing Mads.

Mads, I look forward to your videos every week. Truly inspiring the way you tell the story behind every photo. I was messaging Sean Bagshaw last week and asked if there would be and chance the two of you getting together. I would love to see what 2 world famous photographers can do together.

Another superb video but it hurts 😉 Were there last year but didn’t scout enough and left with some uninspiring pictures, now I have to go back. Thanks for your videos, they give me new energy to search for the next voyage.

Great video Mads. Can really see your exitement of finding tge location. You location videos are great. Have you thought of doing a video where you discuss things like where to logisticaly stay in order to have acces to certain locations. What type of car to rent and when to go there depending on if its aurora photography, mot winterlike photography, summer type photography and so on. For exampli if you stay at this location and rent this kind of car you can access this and this and this location for aurora photography. But if you visit in say june you can go to this and this and this location. Keep up the good work. / Andreas Sweden

@@MadsPeterIversen Still shooting with my canon glass and metabones adapter at the moment but seriously considering the 16-35mm. I've had the 24mm Sigma Art F/1.4 for astro work for ages, great bit of glass :)

Another great video with amazing pictures and drone footage.
When you use Sony with canon lenses does your adapter give you auto focus or you use only in manual?
And which drone do you use for this drone footage? I think the first picture is from the drone
Going to Iceland in December and seeing all your videos as guides
    Thanks a lot

All your Iceland videos have inspired a trip next year...they are wonderful. Thanks for the inspiration. Is early April the preferred time for photography? or do you prefer a different time of year? I travel as you seem to do, living in a car, but this will be my first to a foreign country, I usually stay in the US.

You're very welcome! In my humble opinion end March/April is the worst time to visit Iceland. Everything is melting and the grass is still brown :/
