We were late to the theater the first time I watched this movie back in 1991, and the only seats left were in the front row. it enhanced the ghastliness of certain scenes in this film.
I recently saw an interview with Anthony Hopkins, and in it he talked about his acting method - he literally reads a script 500 times in order to have the written words and actions memorized so that he can just BE the character without having to think about it while filming. He also said he was recently diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and he believes that is the reason why he processes his acting the way he does. I think it's fascinating.
This movie came out shortly after the serial killings that terrorized Gainesville FL while I was attending the University of Florida. That experience made this movie that much more intense.
The thing that makes Anthony Hopkins portrayal of Dr Lecter so unique and fantastic is he brings something so charming and compelling to the character that you can’t quite be completely disgusted and revolted by him. He intrigues you, he drags you in, and that’s what’s your undoing.
Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster were actually never in the same room together during filming!! (If you notice, they’re never in the same camera shot.) They’ve joked in interviews that this was because they were too afraid of each other, to be in the same room.😄
For a real crime story, I recommend In Cold Blood. Many of the scenes were filmed on location. The movie is based on the novel by Truman Capote, it follows the novel quite well. The crime shocked the nation, at the time. It intrigued Capote enough to travel from NYC to Kansas to cover the investigation, etc. he interviews the criminals, etc, get a good idea of the psychological background of them as a result.
PSYCHO and THE BIRDS by Alfred Hitchcock are also trend setters and each is a masterpiece in its own right -at the time they both blew everyone away 1960/1963 WAY AHEAD OF THE TIMES -some say helped to usher in the revolutionary 60's that came into being as i recall...
This movie scared the crap out of me! Dr Lecter and Buffalo Bill were absolutely terrifying. The last scene when Dr Lecter says he's having an old friend for dinner as his arch enemy from the prison, Dr Chilton, gets off the plane and Lecter follows leisurely him is just creepy, knowing what he means when he says having an old friend for "dinner".
I highly recommend reacting to the Saban's Power Rangers Movie from 2017. staring Dacre Montgomery who played Billy in stranger things, Naomi Scott who played Jasmine in the live-action Aladdin movie, Bryan Cranston who played Walter White in Breaking Bad, and Elisabeth Banks who played Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games.
1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real. 2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released. 3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film. 4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice. 5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late😇 Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle played Murdock in "Rambo First Blood II". A great first time/share. 6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony. 7. In the book Crawford did have "a thing" for Clarice. 8. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice 9. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.
My favorite psychological thriller. Ive read all the books (except Hannibal rising) I'm still waiting on a network to bring back Hannibal and Clarice the TV shows😂😂😂
I don’t know if the character of Hannibal Lecter was based on anyone real. But the character of Buffalo Bill borrowed inspiration from the crimes of Ed Gein. He also enjoyed making things of human skin - including said woman-suit from the movie. But he also made a belt made out of nipples, a chair from human faces, and a lampshade of skin. He also had a soup bowl fashioned from a human skull. His crimes inspired several of the worst movie monsters, including Buffalo Bill.
She didn’t follow Dr Chilton’s rules about visiting Lecter, and because Lecter has absolutely no respect for Chilton he appreciated that and kept talking with her. That, and because she was polite and courteous with him. If Clarice followed the rules, Lecter probably would’ve clammed up right at the beginning
If you want to see more of Hannibal Lecter starring Anthony Hopkins, you should watch "Hannibal" then "Red Dragon". I would love to watch your reaction to those movies. 😊
The layout of that basement continues to defy my understanding; it seems like it's 5x the size of the house itself. The key to Lecter is his ego. He enjoys toying with Clarice, but he also wants her to understand his superior intelligence, and in that way she can manipulate HIM into assisting with the case.
This reaction did not disappoint! Buffalo Bill and the senator's daughter were romantically involved during the shoot. Acting! Anthony Hopkins watched this movie in a theater while sitting next to his mother. At some point he realized that she was looking at him, he glanced over and saw horror in her eyes. Acting!
Anthony Hopkins & Jodie Foster gave such excellent performances, as did Buffalo Bill (I forget his name). Interviewed later, Anthony Hopkins said he'd always felt that he wasn't a good actor. If I'm not mistaken, he had been an alcoholic, but I don't know the timeline. Anyway, this film certainly proved him wrong on that point. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a shame, but typical, that they wouldn't pay Foster equal pay for the sequels. They were good, but would've been even better had she been cast for the role.
@@GotWagI love Tony Shaloub (Monk himself), but when I tried to watch that show, I couldn't get past seeing Buffalo Bill (though older and heavier, his voice was the same).
If you're interested in reacting to it, there was actually a Hannibal Lecter film before this, from the 1980s, called "Manhunter". Hannibal was played by Brian Cox from "Succession".
"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." Eww... Fava beans. Gross. 😝 Fun Fact: The rules for speaking with Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) is the same as the rules for speaking with Ethan Powell in Instinct (1999), a role also played by Hopkins. Awards Milestone Fact: This is one of three movies to win the top five Oscars: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay. The others are It Happened One Night (1934) and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975). What Script Fact: Jodie Foster claims that during the first meeting between Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling, Sir Anthony Hopkins's mocking of her southern accent was improvised on the spot. Foster's horrified reaction was genuine since she felt personally attacked. She later thanked Hopkins for generating such an honest reaction. Law Enforcement Cooperation Fact: The real-life FBI's Behavioral Science Unit assisted in the making of this movie. The FBI saw it as a potential recruiting tool to hire more female agents. They were very impressed by this movie's accuracy in depicting criminal investigations, serial killers, and their victims. However, they disagreed with Clarice (Jodie Foster) discovering Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) on her own, because inexperienced agents would never be sent out alone on dangerous assignments.
(Inside Dr.'s joke) As a patient in a Mental Hospital for the criminally insane. Hannibal Lector would most certainly be treated with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors. (MAOIs) & The three things you are not supposed to consume when you are taking those drugs are ... Liver - Beans & Wine.
Another great Jody foster thriller is Panic Room!! Keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through!! Not to mention Forest Whittaker stars in it too ❤
Love this movie, absolute masterpiece with the amazing Jodie Foster playing (rather sparingly) against Anthony Hopkins, who put in a transcendent performance- man was terrifying in his quiet menace, let alone when pounces, teeth first 😅
Have you ever seen Se7en (with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman)? It's a close second to this movie in terms of tone, suspense, and being creeped out. It's excellent.
Saw this movie a few weeks after it was first released, when lines at the box office shortened slightly. And I haven't eaten lamb chops since the spring of 1991.
I loved this movie when I was a kid. Scares me more now. Hannibal the tv series is a fantastic sensual experience. Featuring Mads Mikkelson and Hugh Dancy and Lawrence Fishburn
Im not into scary movies, but this whole range is addictive. Ive seen them all at least 5 times. My mom even read the book Red Dragon before I watched the movie.
Hopkins was only on screen for about 18 minutes and still won an Academy Award- brilliant
Love how as the shrink gets off the plane, He says i'm having an old friend for dinner. Yum😂
The ultimate villain will always be Dr. Hannibal Lecter. No one else comes close!!
We were late to the theater the first time I watched this movie back in 1991, and the only seats left were in the front row. it enhanced the ghastliness of certain scenes in this film.
"Oh and Senator! Love the suit!"
Takes on new meaning when you know what Billy is up to, doesn't it?
🔥 Please react to _Hannibal Trilogy_
- The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
- *Hannibal (2001)*
- Red Dragon (2002)
_BONUS TRACK_
🔥 *The Bone Collector* (1999) || starring Denzel Washington & Angelina Jolie
🔥 *Law Abiding Citizen* (2009) || starring Gerard Butler & Jamie Foxx
🔥 *Seven (Se7en)* (1995) || starring Morgan Freeman & Brad Pitt
Im not into scary movies but I love true crime. I watched Bone Collecter for 3rd time last week.
I definitely second these movies!
Yes! Love all of them.
Misery ( from the Stephen King novel) Kathy Bates and James Caan. I highly recommend the movie,

I knew (but had forgotten about) his method of reading the script 500 times… but I hadn’t heard about his autism diagnosis.
This movie came out shortly after the serial killings that terrorized Gainesville FL while I was attending the University of Florida. That experience made this movie that much more intense.
There is a book that was written that tells why Hannibal was the way he was. Was very good.
Don’t remember many movies where the characters talk directly to the camera in full frame so often. It’s very unsettling.
The film is trying, to make you feel, unsettled. & It's working.
Swept the Oscars.

Don't miss "The Bad Seed" , the original from 1956. No one is reacting to it. I doubt that anyone who's seen it has ever forgotten it.
Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) has a bit part as a warden in the movie Shutter Island, very much worth a review.

Another gem is Unforgiven.
Dr. Lechter cared about Clarice, and he wanted her to figure out who B.B. was to help her learn.
I think "Red Dragon" (prequel) was better than "Hannibal" (sequel). Edward Norton matched Jodie Foster as the compelling protagonist.
1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real.

Oh the story continues, "Hannibal" is next.
My favorite psychological thriller. Ive read all the books (except Hannibal rising) I'm still waiting on a network to bring back Hannibal and Clarice the TV shows😂😂😂
Masterpiece. These are the films I want to see people react too.

Watch Contact with Jodie Foster! As an emotional guy, I know you'll really appreciate it. One of my favorites of all time.
SEVEN and Bone Collector.... both great movies if you enjoy this one.

I love Forest Whittaker. Makes me want to rewatch Ghost Dog.
Awesome reaction! I love this movie! 🎥
I hope you have not seen, and do a reaction to my favorite film "Pulp Fiction"
I can’t wait for you to watch Hannibal. This is a three-part series!
You commented that you wondered if this was based on anything. Buffalo Bill is loosely based on the case of Ed Gein. Thanks for sharing!
Great reaction!! ❤
Love this movie, absolute masterpiece with the amazing Jodie Foster playing (rather sparingly) against Anthony Hopkins, who put in a transcendent performance- man was terrifying in his quiet menace, let alone when pounces, teeth first 😅
Fun reaction, another film that keeps you freaked out is " Seven" with Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Have you ever seen Se7en (with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman)? It's a close second to this movie in terms of tone, suspense, and being creeped out. It's excellent.
I agree: from what I've seen, most people rank Silence and Se7en as the two greatest psychological crime thrillers, in this police procedural style.
For a wild and crazy awesome psychological thriller I recommend “The Cell”.

Damn.. didn’t know you had this channel
I love Jodie Foster, second because I'm a gay man, and first, because she's an amazing, American treasure
❤❤❤
Hi Im bit late, will check out later. Love love this movie. Please watch the other of the range too. Specially Hannibal and Red Dragon.
🏳🌈
The answer to "What does Hannibal do next?" is in the film: "Hannibal." Also a good film. Perhaps a little bit more graphic or gross than this one.
Im going to catch up your reaction on this on my tv definately later this morning.
Im not into scary movies, but this whole range is addictive. Ive seen them all at least 5 times. My mom even read the book Red Dragon before I watched the movie.
There’s obviously not a part two……😂😂😂
way too much skipped.
🐣🐤🐣🐥
Why'd you skip the scene of Miggs throwing semen in Clarice's face??
