I love how Anthony Hopkins and Mads Mikkelsen give two very different terrifying portrayals of Hannibal. Hopkins' Hannibal is so beautifully over the top and creepy in how he'll tell you exactly what monstrous shit is on his mind. Mikkelsen's Hannibal though, you never have any idea what he's thinking or what he's going to do. He could viciously murder you at the drop of a hat and never lose his composure.
Actually they can both be the same person. Most serial killers lose the mask after being caught. They become terrifyingly honest. So Mads is Hannibal before being captured and Hopkins is after older too. He has no reason to hide anymore.
@@passerby2562 I don't think so because even after Mads' Hannibal is incarcerated, he remains as composed and enigmatic as ever. It's not so much that he drops the mask and becomes more honest, as it the is the other characters now knowing that whatever he's thinking/planning can't be good.

And He has not been incarcerated for that long yet
Hannibal is also taken as nearly inhuman in the show. His form in Will’s mind is that of a Wendigo. Part animal, part human, part Other. That mysterious Other is his inhumaness, I’d say the Animal is the anger.
Something I absolutely love about the first meeting between Lecter and Clarice is this: "Did you do those drawings, Doctor? Hannibal Lecter: Ah. That is the Duomo seen from the Belvedere. You know Florence?" It's really easy to miss and you don't even realise how much Hannibal was playing them until the end when you find Buffalo's hometown of *Belvedere* , Ohio. Lecter knew everything from the very start.
In the book "Silence of the Lambs" they actually have a scene where she is still in one of her classes and they talk about the speed at which she can fire a pistol. It sets up the speed of her reaction and rate of fire in that final scene.
“Well, Clarice - have the lambs stopped screaming?” Hannibal Lector is still one of Anthony Hopkins' best and most chilling performances, and the moment where the FBI conduct the raid as Clarice ends up with Buffalo Bill is such a tense moment

The studio didn't have the rights to SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (those movie rights were given to a different studio after the first Red Dragon movie MANHUNTER did so poorly), so because of that and other factors the show really reboots the canon and couldn't have anyone named Clarice or Buffalo Bill or Jame Gumb. that scene at 21:20 is so funny, "everyone stay real close to each other and make sure we all look in different directions even if it doesn't make sense!"
24:10 one of my favorite twists ever, the victim using her brains and finding a way to hurt her captor. Probably wouldn't have worked without Clarice's timely arrival, but it was great seeing a victim fight back. "Don't you hurt my dog!" "DON'T YOU MAKE ME HURT YOUR DOG!"... followed by the aftermath with her holding the dog and getting wrapped in a blanket by the cops.

You guys picked out most of the reveals easier than the audiences in '91 seemed to, especially the time/place sleight of hand in the editing in the final act. I wonder how much of that is because this movie inspired so many imitators after that.
44:10 - Talking about Lecter giving riddles and clues...In his first scene with Clarice, she asks him about his drawings and he says "That is The Duomo seen from the Belvedere." haven't watched the full vid yet but just a fun fact: since Mads Mikkelsen is Danish, his name is actually pronounced "Mass"!
spock'n'roll WOW, I never would’ve thought Mikkelsen is pronounced ‘mass.’ Those crazy Danes...😏
Blind Wave Meets The Silence of the Lambs?! Awesome!
that scene at 21:20 is so funny, "everyone stay real close to each other and make sure we all look in different directions even if it doesn't make sense!"
Ugh you guys would LOVE the show Hannibal. Mads was AMAZING.
I hope you react to the TV series Hannibal. It 's so good!!!
Watch Hannibal (tv show) next! It’s amazing! It’s very unique in its aesthetic and dialogue. We will keep bugging you until you do. You won’t regret it.
What is it on??
Logan W it’s currently on Netflix! :)
a I thank you
Now you have to watch the TV show. It is so awesome! Great actors, amazing sets and music. DO IT!!! :-)
I'm joining the chorus of voices recommending you to watch the TV show. Hannibal is a gem among TV series - it's like dark beautiful art, gruesome yet elegant, even theatrical at times.
Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy are fenomenal - their chemistry, the way they developed these iconic characters and their relationship is something I've rarely seen in cinematography.
Will be glad to see your reaction to this show.
Perfectly said. This show is something else .
I'd like to add my voice to recommend the TV show Hannibal! Some other reactors manage on RUclips, but if you run into copyright trouble, you could as a last resort make it a Patreon-only reaction, I would totally pay to see it!
05:00
Sir Anthony Hopkins: (standing completely still, doing absolutely nothing at all)
Eric: _"That's so creepy!"_
Seriously...You guys need to react to the HANNIBAL series. One of the best TV shows in the past decade.
Gillian Anderson as the anti-Scully.
That first scene with Hannibal and Clarice is so amazing! Hopkins definitely earned every bit of that Oscar!
There is a sequel, and a prequel. The Hannibal tv show is also amazing. I love the movies, the books and the tv show. I hope you react to all of them!
2 Prequels.
How has anyone not seen this movie???!!!
Lol I think some of us forget this movie is 29 years old. Lot's of people haven't seen it!
@@agsmith43 That's not really an excuse, especially since they love Star Wars^^
Modern comic book movies aren't a substitute for actual great movies of days past.
i havent seen it because my uncle watched it and i saw some of it as a kid and it terrified me i saw the part where he bit the guys face
Literally my entire family.
Watch HANNIBAL the series you'll love it
Omg I'm so surprised that you hadn't seen it. When Eric said he hadn't I thought he was joking around. This was so great. I hope you guys consider watching Hannibal the tv series and/or even some of the other Hannibal movies.
Please please please watch "Mad Dog" and Hannibal the TV Show! Lol
Okay now let's get them to watch the other films and then the series
No
@@CymruJedi Red Dragon is great
You guys should watch the TV show too
The guy who played Buffalo Bill was also Captain Stottlemeyer on the show Monk. Took me 20 years to figure that out.
Oh please do the Hannibal show. It's three, 13 episode seasons. It got canceled but the showrunner gave it a satisfying ending. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
Scott Glen (Crawford) has been in a ton of movies: Urban Cowboy, The Right Stuff, Hunt for Red October... the list is endless. Great actor!
Aaron: Is this Anthony Hopkins first role?
Eric: he did a commercial
Sigh. Lion in Winter, War and Peace (best version of Tolstoy's book), Hunchback of Notre Dame. Peter and Paul (ok that one I get not many have seen it)
Lion in winter is great
Don't forget The Elephant Man. It got 8 Oscar nominations and was one of the best movies of the 1980s. Hopkins was excellent in it.
I'm gonna add another comment about the TV show Hannibal, it is truly a work of art and might just be my favourite show of all time
Gotta watch Hannibal (2001) and Red Dragon now. Then Hannibal the TV series!
Jack Crawford is played by Scott Glenn. He's one of my favorite actors. Great reaction fellas.
I wish they'd watch the Hannibal TV-Show. It's so good.
Eric needs Shane as a sounding board for when he's being silly, love you Eric, you make me giggle, great reaction!! Classic thriller movie!!
Oh, man. I sincerely hope you guys tackle Hannibal now that you've seen the Silence of the Lambs. It was just spectacularly done.
Just- watch NBC's Hannibal--- i'm begging you
This movie is amazing!! It also won 5 Oscars in 1992 for Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster), Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Picture
PLEASE watch Hannibal the show, it is absolutely spectacular.
"Whenever feasible, one should always try to eat the rude."
Watch. Hannibal. Now.
The people need it!!
I think you would love the TV show, hope you'll react to it some day!
Oh, I hope you watch the TV show now, because it is SO freaking good, and I haven't really seen many reactors do that show.
Okay now that I've heard the end-of-movie commentary you've got to check out the Hannibal show. You guys would have so much insight into all of it. Please please please, when next you have an open tv show slot to fill consider doing Hannibal. I think you'll like it.
love middle dudes ability to remain silent.
I just started season 2 of Hannibal and holy crap is it amazing. So intense, you guys should totally react to it
You guys picked out most of the reveals easier than the audiences in '91 seemed to, especially the time/place sleight of hand in the editing in the final act.
I wonder how much of that is because this movie inspired so many imitators after that.
Watch Hannibal on Netflix ...ive been obsessed since 2013! 😀loads of fannibals out here that would enjoy watching yall FREAK OUT!
Yes, Fannibals assemble! 😁
@@sophiecooper3624 lmao
Now you guys should watch the Hannibal tv show.
first time Multiple Miggs in view...
Eric: CALVIN! That's how he looked like before we found him!
I - AM - DEAD!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
44:10 - Talking about Lecter giving riddles and clues...In his first scene with Clarice, she asks him about his drawings and he says "That is The Duomo seen from the Belvedere." (in Florence, Italy) and it turns out that Buffalo Bill is from the small town of BELVEDERE, Ohio. Do you think he was giving a clue from the very beginning?
Can we all agree that Blind Wave has some of the coolest beards on RUclips
