    Jenny was so damaged by what her father had done to her.
    She was constantly running away trying to find peace and felt like she wasn't worthy of him.
    She's the one that didn't know what love was or couldn't accept it when it was offered to her.

    • @lia53233
      @lia53233 5 месяцев назад +6

      Yeah. I think she didn't know what love was until she had the baby. Previously she had only known love as abuse, so forrest's idea of love seemed simple to her. She didn't want to screw his life up by staying around.

      I agree. I also think all the people who bash her aren't being honest with themselves. I wonder how many of them would get into a relationship with someone who was slow simply because he was a nice guy? I'd venture to say not many.

    • @screamr2d2
      @screamr2d2 2 месяца назад +4

      So true. And that's NOT her fault. She understood the damage she'd done and she got herself WELL. That's what matters. She was a good mom, and by the time she finally became his wife it was when she felt healthy enough as a person to deserve him. It's so sad that it had to coincide with her physical health's decline. I just don't understand the Jenny Hate. Like damn the girl went through some horrific shit, of course she's gonna make bad decisions and have a lot of hang ups.

    Many many years ago i met Winston Groom who wrot the book Forrest Gump. I asked him "Now, when you picture Forrest Gump in your head, do you see what you pictured when you wrote the book? Or do you see Tom Hanks. " He said "Tom did such an Amazing job capturing my image that now I see Tom Hanks."
    What an amazing compliment!

    I lived in Fairhope, Alabama for over 50 years, and ran into Winston Groom, the author of Forest Gump, quite frequently in the local bookstore. I have a signed copy of Forest Gump. He died several years back and the community misses him a lot. Additionally, Fannie Flagg always included the Fairhope, Alabama bookstore in her book tours, as she was born and raised in the same area. You should certainly include her wonderful movie in your reviews, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES at the Whistle Stop Cafe. I will certainly tune in to your movie reviews.....this will be great fun !

      Thank you!!! I was hoping someone posted this. Surprisingly, a TON of people don't catch on. Maybe because she died very early, before they gave HIV/AIDS an official name other than GRID. She died a year before they renamed it, which I thought was a great nod to Elizabeth Glaser, who was diagnosed in 81' a year before Jenny died in the movie. She was a HUGE reason the acronym was changed.

      AIDS is only implied. In the book it was hepatitis C, which was also only recently discovered, but far less well known than AIDS. I suppose the film left it ambiguous for a reason, but personally I thought there wasn't any reason to attach more stigma to Jenny than already existed.

    • @cliffwheeler7357

      @@jlerrickson Well said. The lack of empathy and understanding by many reactors for the traumatised and mentally damaged person that was Jenny was alarming. Especially by many of the female reactors. Call me old fashioned, but I was often told growing up, that women were kinder and more sympathetic than men, to people experiencing problems in their lives. Sadly this is becoming rarer in society.

    1. The music royalties alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑
    2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis.
    3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
    4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
    5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
    6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.
    5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😈
    8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony..
    9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.
    10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
    11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.
    13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"
    14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.
    15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that"
    16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

    If anyone was surprised by when I questioned Little Shop of Horrors being a movie pick, this film right here is the reason why. With many excellent films like Forrest Gump, there is no need to use reactions up on anything but the best, at least in the early stages of the channel. Some other good suggestions: The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List, The Big Lebowski, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Seven, The Exorcist, Trading Places, Akira, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, just to name a few.

      What an ignorant take on this character - Jenny suffered from C-PTSD after suffering terrible abuse at the hands of her own father. This sort of abuse leads to neurological damage to a developing brain that has lifelong impacts, including the ability to connect, not to mention a deep shame and self-loathing. Anyone who has suffered anything similar, will understand the constant struggle she lived with and how self-sabotaging she was. I know she is a character in a movie, however, her portrayal is one that is easily recognisable as realistic and universal to those who live with this horrible condition. I just wish others could look a moment beneath the surface of her actions to try to understand the trauma that drove them.
