St Kilda the unluckiest team in history. One premiership, by a point, in 120 years, and 5 gf losses, including two very close ones in two years. They seem almost cursed. Must be tough being a supporter.

Well that depends entirely which side of the fence you are on. Horrific ending if you’re a Saints supporter, especially after 09 as well.
Watching the Saints get so close on multiple occasions and not get over the line, over time has actually eroded some of my joy for the game which is a shame but it’s a fact.
I take nothing away from Collingwood though. Congrats on the win.

Saints looked destined to win when.Goddard marked and goaled. Then the terrible bounce for Milne. It really could have been so different. Don't support either team, but it's a sporting tragedy that this Saints group couldn't get a flag. '09 was even more heartbreaking I'd imagine
it's crazy how one tiny thing, like the angle the ball hits the ground at, can cost a team it's 2nd premiership in over 100 years..

They should keep this… it’s like the Haley’s comet of the AFL, happens once every 30 years… it just needs a two week break before the replay… you need about a week for everyone to decompress about what happened, players and fans, before everyone regroups for the replay in mid October with a proper buildup. Racing will accommodate around it.

And when did you play in an AFL match before?
So, you're saying he did nothing at all? Did I see you at the game? Behind closed doors? On the field? No. He's obviously not a key position player. He is a leader. He played mostly back pocket his career and was number 1 at intercepting marks off opposition kicks.

They should have some form of overtime. Maybe a 50 meter shootout, or a 5 minute extra period.
The AFL changed the rules to use extra time periods instead of a replay a few years back.

This is the arguably the greatest moment in sport ever seen and the reason I personal,y became interested in AFL all the over here in America. Where it's impossible to find broadcasts of.
It was unique for sure… but it was proven no longer practical in the modern professional era of the game. The build up to the replay was flat as every one, players and fans, were emotionally spent and the replay was a blowout. Having replay 2 weeks later may have helped, but in Melbourne that’s encroaching the spotlight of the horse racing spring carnival, which is a big deal there too.
Imagine if they did this for the New England v Atlanta comeback Super Bowl several years ago… return the following week instead of OT.

Good on Maxwell for speaking his mind. Not having extra time in GFs was a joke. The AFL has had some very backward rules that very common sense, and this was one of them. Good to see they finally listened to reason and changed it.
In the old days, behinds only counted if there was a draw with goals. So, using the old rules St. Kilda beat Collingwood 10 to 9...
