  • WE GAVE AWAY A DINING TABLE! Even though we were sick halfway through, we had so much fun building this DIY dining table to give away. We have never done a black-stained dining table before, and I gotta say, it's pretty amazing!

    This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.

    If you want pre-stains to work to their fullest let them dry overnight or 6-8 hours if it's very hot and it's outside. Read this in "Understanding wood finishing - Bob Flexner" he say's half of the manufacturer's say wait a few hours others say wait 24hrs some switched to saying less time to sell more of the stuff... I've tried the 24hr method and mine came out flawless on sugar pine. Most people never heard of this even if they recommend his book.

    using the fence as a cross cut stop is very dangerous and asking for a kickback, use a block so that it leaves a gap with the fence.

    I have a new found appreciation for pine! The finish was great. The stain color kinda reminds me of the color you’d get from the vinegar and steel wool stain mixture.

      It looks even better in person too. The camera makes it appear darker than it is. You can still clearly see the grain in person. It actually looks a lot like Sho-Shu-Gi-Ban

    If you have small voids on your seams you can place some wood glue there (unhook dust collection) and then immediately sand over it. It'll fill with the saw dust from the sander and best of all it'll match perfectly.

    I have one more question, sorry. Since this table is for an area that is under cover, you said the Lustre would be fine. What would you recommend for furniture exposes to the weather? I build park benches for the median in our neighborhood, and the Helmsman is not holding up very well. Would paint be the preferred finish? Or is there something else? Thank you.

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  Год назад +1

      Total Boat’s finish is more than rated for outdoor use, however the pine would not handle full elements well. It would likely cup and twist in the sun. Honestly the sun is worse than the rain.

      @nicholem4831 Год назад

      @@slickspade what part of their reply suggests to you that they cont (assuming you meant can’t?) “handle your comment” ?? 😂
      You’re showing yourself to be a dickhead with entitlement issues, and as such, their comment struck a nerve because you now know they won’t be bullied into feeling like they owe you anything. And guess what? GOOD FOR THEM!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
      Tell us Slick Spade, how do YOU earn a living? DO you earn a living?
      It’s obvious from your bad attitude that you’re not an entrepreneur and have never ran your own business. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with that per se, but maybe if you had, you’d have some appreciation for those who have carved out a way and a space to work for themselves. Nobody earns a living by giving things away for free.
      I personally find it refreshing to see a relatively young couple out here running their own business and making a living by doing something they enjoy…together! It can be hard working with your spouse, and starting your own business is never easy, ESPECIALLY for creatives. I applaud this couple for figuring out a way to do both! If you don’t want to pay for plans- that’s your prerogative. Just as it’s THEIR prerogative to charge for them. Nobody is forcing you to build this table…right? To be honest (and I promise I mean NO insult to the hosts because their example table turned out gorgeous) this table build is really not that complicated- it’s actually quite simple. If you’re not capable of watching the video, making note of the lumber they used, using basic math to formulate some dimensions and then using that info to create a cut list, build sheet and supply list…..then this build is beyond your skill set anyways 🤷🏻‍♀️
      So good luck bro.

    • @derekmast3410
      @derekmast3410 Год назад

      @@slickspade @Woodbrew do you have any idea how long plans take to make? $10 is a small price to pay if you don't have the time or skills to do it yourself. Heck you could probably make this without plans by just watching the video.

    • @nicholem4831
      @nicholem4831 Год назад +2

      @@slickspade holy shit dude, did you even go to their website??? They have probably the most comprehensive supply list I’ve ever seen provided for a build by a YT channel. All that…FREE. Including links for some of the specific items they used, as well as the lumber dimensions for this particular build. By the way- build plans are $10. Ten. Bucks. And that comes with an even more comprehensive video, a 30 page pdf document, links for EVERYTHING, plus support if needed. If I had known all that before replying to you- I’d have roasted you harder. Yeah- I’m probably going to go ahead and just buy the plans if for no other reason than to have some of the info in a consolidated space, instead of trying to find the wood scraps I wrote my notes on 😂😂
      Tell us slick, are you against paying for the plans because you don’t have the $10 or because you don’t think they should be compensated for the time and energy they put into developing their extensive build plans and providing thorough resource lists?
