@@KeithJohnsonCustomWoodworking I was going to say “pin me daddy”, never have I been pinned by Keith before lol. But I went with something more subtle. Honestly tho, love some of the tricks and tips I pick up from watching you. Enjoy your day Keith. Much love from Toronto, Ontario.
Keith whenever one of your videos pops up, I know it’s going to be a journey of frustration, mistakes, more mistakes, some more mistakes, an innovative way to fix those mistakes, a little bit of Lola, then a beautiful piece of work that reminds me that I still suck at woodworking. Keep ‘em coming sir!
THanks Tony! Surprisingly, there were very few mistakes on this one (must have been a fluke 😂), aside from miscalculating the amount of material I needed to buy.
You really nailed the perfect custom piece for that space. It is clearly custom and beautiful, but the beauty is in the execution of it not any sort of flashy design. This is just absolutely stunning.
As a cat whisperer and aspiring high level cabinet maker/woodworker, I have learned more from subscribing and binging on your videos this week than in the last three years of building. Fantastic channel and filming.
Beautiful work. One day I'm going to make a table for the family to hang out at, and this is a perfect reference! Thanks for sharing the whole process - so many great details in here to learn from.
One of the most beautiful things I’ve seen you make. Very big and heavy, but still elegant dimensions. It suits the corner bench very well, adds a nice character to the space
Another fantastic build and video. Thank you for the tip about using biscuits under the clamps. I have a large bag of biscuits that are about 22 years old and have kind of swelled from moisture over time. I have almost thrown them away several times. Now I am glad I kept them, thanks to you. I always learn something from you. Thanks Keith.
And again a masterpiece made by Jerry and Lola with a little help from Keith. 😉 Nice table, you build there! 👍 I loved the idea copying the angles from the bench. 😃 Perfect details! 😁
Another great build Keith. Your attention to detail is amazing. I was sweating when you were doing the glue up on the legs.. would have been an easy mistake to glue both sides of both before the final assembly, but an absolutely devastating error! Glad you thought that through... sure it's not your first time doing a design like that.
Thanks so much, Bob! Yes, the halflap joinery mistake was avoided after building the white oak coffee table last year with a similar joinery method. I knew I wouldn't be able to assemble the base without several glue-ups. Sometimes I do remember how to avoid catastrophic mistakes 😜
I'd like to say.. simplicity is a bliss.. but dear lord.. what was simple about this? Thank you Keith.. always very valuable tips and good positive attitude :)
Keith, I watch ALOT of woodworking video's and I have never seen anyone use the Katz Moses stop the way you did for your angled ends. Very Nice! What an amazing table, using the simple lap joints on such a large scale, and the fit and finish looks great!
26:32 As for some testing on this site, if you pre glue the end grain to make it adsorb and then proceed to the final glue-up you get a considerable amount of joint strength even from the end-grain surface.
Man you're such an inspiration to me! Love your attention to detail and how you go to great lengths just to make things as perfect as possible. Makes me challenge myself in my projects! As long as you keep making videos I'll keep watching, have a good one 😁
Another great project and video Keith. So glad you use Willard Brothers in Trenton. My very first big project was the crib that my boys slept in, and I bought the cherry and walnut from them. Love your videos and can't wait till the next one. All the best.
Love white oak. Quartersawn my favorite. Beautiful craftsmanship. Not at all my style but fabulous. Just finished a Navy bell project with double 8/4 stock so i about lost it when you mentioned getting the top in place without splitting any of your male parts… truly grand with that bulk - but yep, no joke to move Thanks for sharing. I learned something and enjoyed your labors 🎉👍🏼
Love the base design. Ive got 1000bf of 9/4 w.o. rift and quartersawn coming out of the kin in a few weeks. This will be my next base. Very cool, thank you.
Massive and beautiful. You didn't mention how you resolved the need for two more top stretchers on the table frame, but judging from the exposed dominos that were visible during the routing of the half-lap joints, you must have cobbled some off cuts together?
Thanks very much! Unfortunately, I have no idea how much time as I working on this project simultaneously with 2 other builds. And filming everything can make the process take almost twice as long.
Wow. Another fantastic build. That table top was easy compared to those legs. I always learn something new watching your videos. Didn’t know there was a collet extension available. What’s that Laguna piece of equip behind you starting at 7:19? BTW , Those thick leg cut offs will make some nice hollow vessels or boxes. Keep them coming. Glad you find hurt yourself. That project would be to big for this old man😂
Looking at your attempts to get the best worktop layout. I remember Norm from the Yankee Workshop always laying out his worktops based on the ring orientation, ie one board up and next board down. He said it stops cupping when glued up.
If your lumber is dried and milled correctly, this shouldn’t be an issue. Table aprons and securing the top to the base help keep it flat as well. This is also rift sawn lumber, which has the grain going at a 45 degree angle, not at all like traditional flat sawn lumber with rings. Quartered and rift are much more stable.
Nicely done. I have been wanting to try out that nano ceramic coating, If I can only get the wife to let me build her a new table. You’ll have to let me know how it works out. Great video
Beautiful work like always! I believe in the beginning you said you ran the lumber through the jointer, then table saw, and then the jointer again. Why for the second pass through the jointer? Thanks!
One you have a square flat edge on the jointer, I use that edge on the table to saw fence to cut my stock to a hair over final width. Then, I head back to the jointer to remove the saw marks that were made on the table saw.
