    On the RGB strip lights I use, I can power up a 3" piece or the entire 20ft coil with the same driver and get the same light output from each led. Not sure why these would be different.

    @FlyRyde- Thanks for the very informative video! Would it be safe to modified an 18" length and only used 15" from it after you modify it? I need a 12" section and then a 3" section (But Pivot doesnt make a 15" total length strip). Would this be bad for the controller given that the controller is specific to the length of the strip?

  • @vezzarn

    Would there be a way to connect each cut section in series? I am very interested in trying this with the sequential Pivots that are out, but obviously wiring them parallel as in this video would create some... goofy... sequential effects haha. Is there a way to scuff up the diffuser coating to access the copper underneath?

    I've got a kind of awkward question. I have a pair of angel eye rings, but they're not covered with a diffuser, so they have that weird/ugly yellowish greenish color to them. If I'm working on a DIY project, is there anything I could spray or cover them with that would make them a presentable white without screwing up the functionality of the ring?? I appreciate any input, thanks a lot.

    Hey there, can you tell that this leds are brighter that profile pivot strip? I’m about to change the drl of my 2017 Honda Accord and I’m trying to guess if it’s a better idea to join 24 channels of the corsomotion leds and kind of modélate them to get the exact same shape of the oem drl or use a 24” profile pivot led strip.

    Hey man. So im doing a full retrofit on my b8 audi and was planning on removing the stock led and install this strip instead. The total i would need is 14 inches and since they make a 14 inch strip i was going to buy a larger one and make it work by cutting. My question is if i bought the 18 inch strip and cut 3 inches off (ill make that work) the length of the strip is now 3 inches smaller and therefore the driver is putting out more power to a smaller strip. Will that 3 inches make a big difference? -Thats what she said

    One question though,will this work on sequential led strips?

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  6 лет назад +3

      This will NOT work with sequential, since there's more to it than just connecting power and ground to the sections. Most premade sequential strips have a data wire as well, which can be affected by extending the wires. If I find a solution similar to this for premade universal sequential strips, I'll make another video about it :)

    When you do this to a car with existing LED DRLS, what do you use to power the driver? Do you use a relay to power externally? or do you tap into the existing parking light/turn wires built into the headlight?

    • @MsFenix89
      @MsFenix89 3 года назад

      My guess on this you would have to remove the existing DRLS and replace them with the new LEDs.. that’s what i did on my Cadillac SRX headlights...

    Good thinking Chris.
    Do all the cut sections need to be wired in succession or does it matter as long as they all end at the driver ( jst connector )

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  6 лет назад

      Nothing fancy needed, just as long as all of the wires from each section come together at the same point. You could daisy chain it, or just run all the lengths to one spot, even if you had 8 different sections from the 24” strip cut up. 👌

    • @jcm3693
      @jcm3693 6 лет назад

      FlyRyde, I wonder, is this same thing also applicable to the prism strips ?

  • @RO-qi9yj
    @RO-qi9yj 5 лет назад +1

    So if I cut the strip smaller let’s say if it’s a 24in and I have to cut it to fit my headlight that only needs 8in do I have to use a smaller Driver ?

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  5 лет назад

      Booty Eater in the video I mention it has to be multiples of 3” sections only, meaning you can have a 6” or 9”, but not 8. And yeah you’d need a 9” driver to run just that.

    Thank you so much for making this video. It's just what i was looking for since i have an infiniti M35 that has a lot of curves in the headlight. Can you please explain if it matters which way you solder the power and ground wires on the LED's (like if there is a +/- listed on the LED strip to know)? Also, i see that you had 3 sets of wires for 3 LED's but how did you connect all 3 sets of wires together and then on to the driver? Can you please elaborate on this.

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  6 лет назад

      I'll have a MUCH more in depth tutorial inside of Lightsmen. To give a little extra info, the strips are marked at each solder pad so you can make sure you use the same color wire for the corresponding pads, and then reconnect all wires back to the main driver that powers all sections of the strip. As long as all wires are connected, the driver doesn't know there's anything different than before you cut the strip into sections.

    What color temperature are these? I purchase some Morimoto led strips years back and when I re-ordered some halo of the same brand, I think it came in this "profile" box - They seem to be more 5000K than 6500K like the original 18" strip I got. Wanted to see if you knew these are the ones that are more with a blueish hue - That';s what I am looking for.

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  3 года назад +1

      Yeah manufacturers (different than the brands they make products for, who then sell to consumers) will change LEDs after they run out of a batch, which translates to what you explained. Let’s say an LED company makes a big batch of LEDs and then labels them based on the color, and assigns a bin number for that exact batch. You could have the same color, different bin number, and subsequently a very slightly different color.

      Acrylic is a cool option, but you really need to have access to someone who knows their way around a laser engraving/cutting machine to pull of something really clean. 99% of the attempts I've made/seen, look home made and cheesy. You want what everyone wants I'm afraid, and that means its gonna be hardAF to pull off nice.

      Craig that’s what I want too. Did you find any? The only strips I can find are cheap 15cm and 18cm ones on eBay

    I've bought the profile switchbacks, you can't even see them during the day, they are for night only. I thought you could use them for daytime driving lights, nope.

    These sadly do not have the marks and arent cutable or at least not easily of they are.

    If there a way to make custom diffusers? There are no aftermarket headlight assemblies for my vehicle which makes it seem like the mod suggested in this video wouldn't look very nice...

      Noah- Fence come on show us how to make a custom diffuser.

      I'm thinking something along the lines of finding some kind of clear plastic "brick" so to speak that could be bent slightly after applying heat, then either using a Dremel to cut slits in the plastic that the light could refract off of, or by using hot, thin metal to make indentations in the plastic to achieve the same effect. Or perhaps simply sanding or a similar process could achieve better refraction? I'm not sure. I'm more talented on the electrical side than the fabrication side.

      Looking more into it, it seems that the options mostly relate to the use of acrylic. Frosted acrylic to be exact. The acrylic sheet (or tube) can be shaped and, by using a custom-cut backing (plastic?) to mount the LEDs to, one unit is created that should fit within your headlight assembly. Check out some forums like HIDPlanet for more details

      Noah- Fence I’ve opened up a broken Audi A1 headlight. The diffuser was made from an acrylic plastic tube with shape ridges on the back of it

      What do you think about custom fabrication for one of those using an acrylic tube? I imagine it would be difficult, especially to make a L/R pair

    Hi!! Just found your channel! Looking to buy these profile pivot LEDs from TRS. My headlights have factory LED "strips" but it's powered by a singular LED. Definitely need to upgrade 😃 I need a 14" strip to fit perfectly, but they don't sell 14" strips. So I'm thinking about buying the 18" strip and cutting off 3" of it. I'll have a little extra but here is my question. You mentioned needing a different driver size. If I'm only trimming off 3", can I use the driver it comes with? Thanks for any input!! 😀

      You can overdrive them I’m sure, but ultimately you’re voiding your warranty and eventually when they go bad, or the driver goes bad, you might be forced to buy a whole new set. Kinda sucks 😭

      Well that sucks! Hopefully they won't fail. I really wish they had more size options. Maybe I'll shop around and see if I can find a 14" strip. Thank you for your response! Love your channel!

    Hey Chris, have you ever cut the profile pivot sequential switchback strips successfully?

      Did you ever do this yourself? I’m about to start cutting my 18” set of PP switch backs. Hoping to still be able to use the sequential turn signal, if not, I’m not too worried about it

      @@LunarKr3W Hi there. Yes I did make one cut and reshaped to a “check mark” like shape. The circuits are tiny and can damage easily. I wore magnifying glasses through the process and took my time. A needle tip on the soldering iron helped to get the cut circuits closed back up.
      They’ve been working without issue for a year now.
