Fixing Bad Custom Headlights

- THIS is why I never try to fix lights that other people have built. You get all kinds of surprises once you start!
Elise reached out to me after she had lights built for her Mitsubishi Eclipse 4th Gen and they started to give out. So I decided to help her out on one condition, which was for her to open up the lights, and remove the permaseal before she brought them.
SHE DID!?
We tore into the headlights only to find the lens had been ruined by the fumes from paint which could have been avoided! Using ZEP degreaser you can remove chrome and leave the black plastic on certain parts. The great thing about removing the chrome with ZEP is that its FAST, and it doesn't gas out later.
We added replacement addressable LED strips from Lighting Trendz and Halos from Sinister Retrowerkz, all controlled by BlueGhozt.

Whats up FLY! Thanks for your content man I love watching your videos. I'm about to do my headlights on my 2017 infiniti qx80 and ima swapp the projector lens out for one etched and get rid of some of the fake chrome. I'm thinking about adding some Led Strips. Whats the best ones I should use and how do I get them to work with the blinkers. Do I just wire them straight to the blinker harness?

Wowww just found your channel and am getting myself into blacking out my headlights housing, all to find this video a little later! I have a 4G Eclipse with the factory HIDs. I tried using aftermarket halo headlights that were made for halogen models only then to find I didn’t even know I had HID! It’s been a mess. I love seeing others with eclipses! I’ve never customized headlights before though! 😭
After watching this video and also this video of yours, "4 Types of Sequential LED Switchback Lights | FlyRyde", my question is when I take apart my 2014 Mercedes Sprinter headlights is there ever a place in the build where the clear plastic cover that was original glued on can be re-attached successfully using a rubber gasket making a tight seal if there are enough screws for the cover. You know, instead of going back in the oven.
My 06 eclipse gs did not have the projectors. First mod was some out of the box halo units

I been wanting to do this to my car with my eclipse and I'm going to use your video as my guide and also do the brake lights after I order new lights cause mine have cracked from the sun
When removing strip at end of video you can try taking a exacto knife and score the sides its what paintes do to remove tape from a wall if done right your paint job should be safe from chipping im guessing same thing would work for that strip
So I aslo have a 4g Eclipse with rgb halos. I did a crap job installing them and need to replace the lense cover and housinga. Can I put the internals of my stock hid lights inside the depo light housings?

They where more common on what I like to call the "4g V2" or the ones made from 2010-2012, and most common on the gs sport, the where gorgeous but unfortunately much like the interior they didn't age well and most of them ended up with broken hid mechanisms and got swapped for halogens due to the new hid assemblies costing upwards of 400$ a piece
Do you do a baking soda bath after to neutralize the degreaser?
with the degreaser the piece is black? Or do you paint it?

So like how much would it cost me to have you do headlights for my 2007 cheysler 300 srt8? It's got the h.i.d system from factory too. I want halos. Demon eyes and halos.
I used regular (not high temp) matte black plastic paint for my headlights.. did I mess up and risk paint flaking? 🥲
Not if it sat and gassed out really well, especially in the heat. Lots of times people seal up painted parts that are only dry on the surface, and then the sun bakes them dry inside the lights. The out gassing during that is what wrecks your lenses

Where did you get those halos? I checked sinister retroworkz website and they only have white/yellow switchback halos.
I asked him, and he’ll hopefully add the newer brighter version he just sent me soon.

Jb weld or a clear plastic 2 part epoxy. Also you can use some heavy duty double sided mounting tape.
so what your saying is that i have to let my freshly painted headlights sit out in my garage for about 24hrs before reassembly???
Or longer. Remember that just because the top layer of paint feels dry to the touch, doesn’t mean it’s not still drying deeper down. Those fumes have to go somewhere. Probably best not to have that somewhere be the inside of your headlights.

even when its done right custom headlights and tails have a high failure rate. maybe one day components will last much longer than they do now. for what many of these LED's cost its a big waste of money longterm. technology needs to hurry up lol
