  • How To Install Demon Eyes and Honeycomb Lenses, in this case for a Nissan 370Z at FlyRyde.
    This is a universal install on the Demon Eyes, but I give a bit of extra information about these custom etched lenses as well. If you DO have a 370z and upgrade to the STi-R lenses, make sure you use some wire like I did to keep the lenses nice and tight!

      The lines in the lens actually help to aim the light output more precisely, so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic. Do you go out and test your creations to ensure you aren't actually causing issues and being a general dick to others on the road?
      I hope so, when I mod stuff, I do it with an aim to not "be that guy" that is creating issues where none needed to exist.
      I love your mods, but take a min to ensure that the mods you're doing don't cause issues for others. When you think only about how cool it looks for you and to hell with everyone else, you create momentum for overreaching and needlessly asinine laws to get passed.

      I’d like to first give a legitimate acknowledgment that what you both posted was understandable and seemingly for the good of others. Here’s where I get real, and I promise, I’ll make a video on this, not only to correct anyone that’s confused, but because I genuinely DO care about you guys learning something.
      So about getting real, the aspect of this video referring to “blinding” people, is in reference to someone standing directly in front of your car looking at about a 45 degree angle down at the headlights with the low beams turned OFF, demon eyes on, with enough “blinding” light to catch your general attention, more like a “woah, what was that?”
      The part of the video where I talk about Fresnel lenses versus crystal clear, I challenge you to first research, then get first hand experience, then come back with any valuable knowledge to correct anything in this educational video. A clear lens projector will be found on certain projectors, such as the JDM or Euro spec 2015+ GTR lights compared to the factory North American spec lights of the same year. The difference in the two compared side by side will show exactly one difference: Clarity.
      You can see the output more clearly, where it is designed to go. Not up in someone’s eyes. Not up on stop signs and back windows of cars like all the DBag truck drivers with reflector housings and HID/LED “upgrade” bulbs...
      Clarity on the road, and specifically the cut off line. The absence of the lines/dimples/frosted pattern on the projector lens, allows for a sharper line, with a bluer “prism” or “flicker”. You’ll notice this as well from many current LED equipped factory headlights, or Luxury cars with HID from years past. They have sharper cut off lines.
      That is what the clear lens gives you. All the keyboard warrior talk, or tisk tisk BS uninformed concern that will continue to be added to this video is both expected (sadly) and yet understandable.
      Lastly, if you saw this on the road, you wouldn’t hate me. You wouldn’t run me over. You wouldn’t say anything to me. You wouldn’t correct me, or frown. You’d walk past the car, notice some glowing lights with a weird pattern, and either like it or not care. If you were to visit my shop and see this kind of custom work in person, you’d say the things inside were cool and you were glad to have stopped by and met me.. and that I was bigger in real life than you expected. That is all.

    I actually appreciate all the tips and tricks you put in here. Who knew watching a 25 minute RUclips video would make me a demon light enthusiast. I always wondered what was in the projector that caused the cutoff look. I thought it was the lens but in reality it's the window in the back. Which I'm guessing is like a shutter.

    I just used a piece of honey comb vinyl on the back of my projector lenses. Its much more cost effective and can be taken off if you decide you wanna go a different route with your etched lenses. This was my first ever headlight retrofit on my Q50 and turned out perfectly. cost me $450 all together in parts and the install wasnt that difficult. Just time consuming. The parts i used for my build were the Lightingtrendz flow series rgb kit and custom dynamics demon eyes.

    Nice work:)
    I work for a medical company and I build prototype vein finder machines. We also use highpower leds and for edging where wires make 90 degree turns an epoxy it's used. Not a fan of double sided tape for an area that is exposed to high heat.

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  5 лет назад +4

      The great thing about tape, is it works so well, and still, it’s not permanent. Glues and more hardcore adhesives basically are a commitment to always keep it the same, even if the product fails down the road. Not fun to pull parts out that are epoxied in, but it’s definitely something that happens.

    • @JaySimons1

      I think that 3M double sided will generally hold up, but the electrical tape that its adhering to generally wont. You know what they say about the weakest link in a chain, if that electrical tape comes off, which it probably will in that scenario, the double sided goes with it no matter the strength of the double sided. I don't think most think about that.

  • @YTGreyita
    @YTGreyita 4 года назад

    Chris great stuff man. Just one quick comment about the Fresnel lens. The lines in the lens are there to bend the light straight so it doesn't flood in all directions. The lines do nothing to soften the light. Essentially with a Fresnel lens you can direct the light without blinding oncoming drivers. A full clear light is a flood lens and lets light go in all directions looking brighter but in fact it's the same intensity as the Fresnel. Might be safer for cars driving towards you to have the Fresnel with honeycomb etched in it. Anyway love the channel and content! Keep up the great work man!

    The Retrofit Store charged me $193.98 for one pair of etched lenses. They make you buy their lens which was irritating to me, now I have to deal with a lens that does not quite fit so good. The solution? Spend more money and upgrade to new morimoto Projectors. Its funny in my area of the world, nobody has demon eyes. Halos are everywhere, on everything, so boring. You can see my Demon eyes way farther away and now with the new etching upgrade angled upwards, way cooler than those tiny thin Halo bands around a vehicle's headlights. Oh well, to each his own.

Overall though great video, most people probably wont notice the soldering stuff but I figured id point that out.

    So this is just to light up the lense? I have Halos so they would be around the lens I can still have the demon eyes? I'm asking because our state has a law against colored headlights

    From your experience , can you tell me which demoneyes is brighter between the Colormorph RGBW or the Profile prism RGB? I think the Profile Prism come with a reflector to help direct the light toward the front lens to make it more brighter, but is made to be installed on the top of the projector. I would like to mount a Profile Prism on the bottom of a Morimoto 4.0 projector, but am afraid the 9 leds on the board would be visible through the projector lens. One of the problems I see with demoneyes is the ability to be bright enough to see during the day.

    what if you put one demon eye on the bottom and one on the top would it shine on the road and also have a blinder effect?

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  5 лет назад

      Look at the Genesis Coupe Headlight in the beginning. The demon eye has one of each. We did an Aston Martin last year with 2 demon eyes in each Projector. It was cool , but kinda seemed like a lot of extra effort for not much different of a look.

    I just installed a bi xion bulb in my bi xion morimoto projectors. The funny part is my car is a h7 and the morimoto is a h1 so I did bem using h1 which isn't a big deal but finding a bi xion h1 is kind of hard but finally found a couple and ordered w pair but had them shipped to Chicago, I live in Arizona, and I wasn't and still am not if the ones I ordered come with a bi xion harnes. So I ordered a pair of 9007 that come with a harnes. Once it got here I looked and realized it's not that much work to get those working on my car. Sure enough I'm driving around wit 9007 bi xion in my h1 projectors that were installed in my stock h7 car.

    Why would you not use an epoxy to secure your circuit board rather than double stick tape? My worries would be the heat effect on the tape and long term life of your installation. There are some epoxies by Devcon that are heat rated also.

      You’re missing one monster piece of the puzzle my friend, one that only comes from experience. You’re assuming that the part you want to ultra secure in place is not going to have any issues ever, and that much like a diamond being set into a piece of jewelry, this little LED board is perfect and will never experience failure or need to be replaced.
      Tape works great, it doesn’t all the sudden get tugged on by headlight gremlins inside the light, it’s secure yet replaceable, and it’s not messy. Practicality and efficiency my dude. Beats out overthinking and overbuilding all day every day 👌

    Would you be able to do a BMW M3 E92/93 headlight? it's a very difficult job with the OEM Adaptive headlight and the reflector headlight.
    I'm sure you would get huge number of views. Keep up the good work. Cheers

    Another awesome video! Have you done very many projector retrofits? I know you usually just modify the existing projectors, but what about older cars without projectors and retrofitting them into it?

    • @flyryde
      @flyryde  5 лет назад +2

      Peace Parts the Genesis Coupe light at the beginning had a MH1-7 retro in the high beams. As a business, retrofits are common, and dangerous. It’s my opinion that if you do this stuff on the side, you shouldn’t offer retrofits due to the time involved, as well as the massive potential downside if there’s ANYthing wrong with it after the build.
