• How To Use A One-Step ...
In this video our team demonstrates how to change backing plates. Most machine polishers, such as the TORQX, TORQ10FX and the TORQ22D come equipped with a backing plate. However you can easily change out the backing plate size to perform other detailing jobs. So whether you would like to add a smaller backing plate for those hard to reach areas or change your backing plate to a larger size for bigger jobs we show you the proper way to change the backing plate size. Not every area of the vehicle is easy to polish with a 5.5'' buffing pad. Some areas are more compact and are easier to polish with a 3'' pad; some areas are large and flat and are more efficiently polished with a large 6.5'' pad. Switching out the backing plate to facilitate pad size changes is easy with the TORQX. Follow these simple instructions and use the included tools to change to any size backing plate to get the job done!

thanks for this video!
I like this guy, learned alot from watching his videos 👍
Happy detailing!
What size is that wrench!
I bought this recently and it came with some extra brushes for the motor. It would be nice for Chemical guys to do a maintenance video on this unit like greasing the spindles and replacing brushes.
Great suggestion!
@@ChemicalGuys I have to give props to you guys for so many detailed videos on detailing a car and I have learnt a lot and also built a "arsenal" as you say of Chemical Guys products. I love them and they are all good. So if you also want customers to buy your polishers, then a more detailed video of maintaining these devices just like you have on all other chemicals would be nice.
These guys are really such detailing pros😁😃😍🤙
Happy detailing!
good explanations. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Just got my Torq 10fx. It has a a stiff 5" red in color backing plate and then a second also red 5" that is much more pliable. The unit has a yellow stiff backing pad already installed. Is there a major difference in using any of these given they are all the same size?
I'll ask again I guess, do you guys carry those smaller pads in store/ online? I've yet to see 3" pads other than the lake county pads in store. Where can I get smaller hex logic pads?
Thank gosh about the washer I wondering if I needed it so I just used it any ways thanks
Happy detailing!
Thanks for the info
Happy detailing!
What size thread are used ?
Good work
Thank you so much 😀
Where can I get 3" hex logic pads? I have never seen them before.
I agree I can’t find the smaller back plates and pads anywhere.
I ordered a torque 10fx DA a few years ago but I lost the wrench to change the backing plate, do you guys sell them on your website?
Hi Eric, thanks for watching. We don't sell the wrench, I would recommend going to a hardware store with your polisher so they can look at the spindle thread to determine what size wrench will be compatible. The wrench should be easy to replace. Thanks for watching Erick, stay tuned for more great videos.
What's the difference between the red and yellow backing plate?
Hi Gabe, great question! The standard yellow plate is great for flat surfaces, polishing hoods, door panels, rooflines, and trunk lids. The red flex backing plate shines when working around the curves on the hood, polishing rounded headlights, and gliding along the contoured surfaces of wheels and panels. The red hyper flex backing plate gives you more flexibility when working on arched panels, and cornering. Thanks for watching, Gabe, and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
chemical guys, I just received my 10fx in the mail today and did not come with a rench to take the backing plate off. who can i contact or email about getting one shipped.
Thank you, and love all of your products.
Hi Cody! Did you check in the instruction manual bag? The wrench is usually packed in there. If it's not there, contact our Customer Service department and they'll get one out to you ASAP! www.chemicalguys.com/category_s/283.htm
The wrench is a 14 mm, you can get one from Bell deluxe tube repair kit. It won’t fit thru the torq slot but if you angle it it works great- it’s a thin wrench.
The Bell kit is for bicycles
This is the way that most if not all rotary tools work. I'm surprised you had to make a video showing how to do it.

Can I use 3" backing plate for a torq22d????
Hi! The TORQ 22D can only be adjust down to a 5" Inch backing plate. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!
Black on black, i can't see that...
This saves me from having to get 2 machines
No. It won´t save you for getting of second machine, because when you replace 5 inch for 3 inch the machine will be discounterweighted and it will be vibrate like a vibrator. rip yours hands.
I lost my wrench 🔧
