Same here - three years ago when I bought my golf R! Used pan’s method to do a full clay bar, 1-stage compound to get the dealer-induced swirls out, then polish with essence, then ceramic coating! Awesome video Pan!! However, do you have a video of removing the black residue from polishing chrome, aluminum, and stainless steel from Terry and microfiber towels?
Excellent video as always. What technique do _you_ use and _how often_ do you clean a pad when polishing a car? My practice may be too careful - wash polishing pad every two panels. - walk into the kitchen, rinse pad with the sink sprayer - spray pad cleaner on the pad, scrub with dedicated brush - rinse and wring - mount pad on polisher, hold down and away from car and run polisher at 4 of 6 speed to expel water
Thanks Steve! I use the Detail Guardz pad washer system, as it's super quick. When I'm done polishing a car, I will typically have a dozen pads (5 or 6 for compound and 5 or 6 for polishing) so it gets the job done super quickly and efficiently.
Used Zaino line for almost 20 yrs. Only thing that would work well is degreaser. I used Mean Green from Cdn Tire...awesome stuff. Rinse well then would follow up with light gentle soap, Rinse well. Hand wash only.

Thanks Pan. I just spray pad cleaner on all my pads when I’m done with one during my detailing process. I then throw them in 5 gal bucket of water with some Dawn in it. Now they’re soaking while I complete my entire job. At the end of the day I through all my MF’s I used and pads in the wash with Micro Restore and everything comes out clean and done. Just less hassle then cleaning each pad my hand or working a pad cleaning device. But you need to have enough clean pads ready to go for your job at hand.
What ever works for you. Just a quick suggestion though, always wash your polishing pads separately from the rest of your microfiber towels. Pads contain small abrasives that could lodge themselves in the fibers of the microfiber towels and defeats the purpose of having good towels to work with on nice paint, as you could potentially scratch and mar the surface.
Pan a question please involving polishing/correction and pads. I noticed the pads Rick at RAD used on the Lexus IS video then watched you doing polishing tutorials using foam and MF on different cars. Lake and Rupes told me to use a medium MF on my soft Lexus paint then finish with Sonax. Is there a formula you use on manufacturers cars? Such as : Audi gets this pad with this compound and this polish? Porsche i use this pad with this compound and this polish? Hope the question make sense but I am thinking by now you have a guideline for manufacturers and then a corresponding “recipe” for the compound/polish then adjust based on condition of the paint. 🙏thx as usual for the guidance and hard work on the pad cleaner options. 👍👍👍👍👍
How many panels/sections between pad wash? Should a visible look determine when to wash or should I assume several panels or doing the entire vehicle as long as the pad doesn't appear to have a lot of buildup? I'm just a first time end user with a new polishing tool on a 3 yr old black Silverado.

Thanks bro! For me the pad washer is the best for speed and efficiency. But I have seen too many videos where people don't use it correctly. It's important to use the pre-treat spray on the pad, and work it in with your fingers, rubbing it in thoroughly, and then you plunge it in the bucket and pump up and down. Mine always come out perfect as you saw. :)

What pad to start with, setting on machine and which polish as mentioned above is easier for a beginner to use.....Meguiar's or the V32 to V38. Thanks in advance for any tips you could provide.
Love the channel Pan. Before I started watching, my garage shelves were bare. Now they're starting to look like yours!😄 I live in US in Northern Ohio and my garage is attached but isn't heated. Should any/all of these products be moved inside for the winter in case of freezing? Also, any idea on product shelf life? I don't have a detailing business and only use on my personal Car's so wondering if they would still be okay to use if 2-3 years old or would chemical makeup of product change in that time? Could be idea for a new post.... compare effectiveness of different products that have been on your shelf for 2+ years🤔
Thanks for the feedback Joel. I appreciate it. To answer your question, it's crucial that detailing chemicals don't freeze! If they do, they're garbage. And typically, chemicals have a shelf life of 1 to 2 years if kept in stable conditions, meaning non freezing.
Is it bad for my washing machine to wash these pads in there? Will it coat or leave a film in the machine that will affect my other cloths? Curious why some people dont like washing their pads in their washing machine.
Pan , how many pads do you recommend for a car? (4 door) , Yvan at DIY says one…then Matt at obsessed says multiple. My thing is after every shoulder size pass…is it necessary to clean the pad or after every panel should I clean the pad or use a new one? Novice driveway enthusiast from NC lol
Both answers are good. It depends on your preference. Some people, like Yvan, prefer using one pad for each step (one pad for compound, one pad for polish), but clean the pad after each section using a pad washer like this: amzn.to/3I8AVOS I reviewed that pad washer in this video: ruclips.net/video/vfKgy7LOhh4/видео.htmlsi=E22XFKghVdOcKP-o Others, like Matt, prefer using multiple pads for each step (4-5 pads for compound, 4-5 pads for polish) and the switch pads after every other panel or so. Both achieve the same goal: working with clean pads. The clean pads always are more efficient as they correct better. Dirty pads filled with spent compounding polish don't cut as well. So working with clean pads is key. So like many things in detailing, there isn't one right or wrong answer. It's just different techniques. Welcome to my channel. What do you recommend for polishing an oxidized motorhome? A rotory buffer or a D.A.? What's best for fiberglass gel coat which is what most motorhomes are?
@@PanTheOrganizer I have a 30 foot Class A motorhome. Thus is why I asked if a rotory polisher over a D.A. I'm sorry but I would never use Turtle Wax on my gel coat. Just my opinion as a D.Y.I.er
So I recently purchased a system 4000 for pad cleaning…but I’ve also been told that you can’t truly remove the clear coat that’s embedded in the pad no matter how you clean them. Especially from microfiber pads/Wool pads
Hi Pan, great video. I bought the pad cleaner, and I also use the hand cleaning methods that you discussed. My question is that is there a different process for pads used to apply graphene sealants. I have used the McKees product and it is really hard to get those pads clean. Other detailers have told me to just throw those pads away.
Glad it was helpful! Here is my popular tutorial on how to properly care for microfiber towels and microfiber products: ruclips.net/video/t_ryfGlkE9I/видео.html
Neither. If you're to the point of applying a ceramic infused wax, then why not go straight for a proper ceramic coating? Anyhow, regardless of your choice, go for the most durable product first. So look at the durability claims of the products you are using (as you didn't mention which ones). Apply the one that is supposed to last the longest first. And there's no need to apply a ceramic wax and a regular paint sealant, as you can't guarantee proper chemical compatibility. I would pick one, and apply an appropriate topper every now and then, like Bead Maker which you can apply on top of coatings, waxes and sealants.
@@PanTheOrganizer the only thing that has ever been on this car is Ultima paint gaurd plus.....figured I try somthing new after watching your videos..just finished applying turtle wax ice seal-n-shine when you replied , was gong to put meguires hybrid ceramic wax on top...both are SiO²
Another amazing video, I personally liked using the bucket for washing. In the coming videos will you show us the difference between using foam, microfiber, wool pad, for paint correction and polishing , and how difference outcome each have? Regards
i have a question the way we compound and polish the paint on the car can we do the same method on a glossy black rim ? They're no videos showing it, just how to clean them, I'm trying to get rid of minor scratches on the rim's
Pan, any tips on minor scratch removal on rubber/plastic exterior trims? I’m guessing meguiar’s scratch x 2.0 but that works well on painted surfaces, not sure about trims 😭
Thank you for your help Pan. One last question, while you’re polishing do you prefer to use compressed air or a brush like the Rupes one to clean the Pad? Are brushes safe or abrasive to clean pads? Is it a better idea to have multiple pads and cleaning them by hand after polishing so they last longer? Thank you from Portugal 🇵🇹
I use dedicated brushes while doing the paint correction, and I switch pads often. Clean pads work better. Some say that blowing compressed air is fine on microfiber or wool pads, but that it can damage some foam pads so be more careful. They say compressed air can damage the cells of the foam. So perhaps use a brush on foam pads.
Hi Pan quessie for you; products with “pretty” dyes in them that stain pads. Which is better for attacking pad stains, prepared pad products or dishwasher / hand wash detergents, soak more or agitate harder?
Unfortunately, there aren't many miracles against stained pads, especially black or dark stains. The pad will still be clean, but the stains usually stay. The best way to diminish them is to clean the pads immediately after use, and using the pad washer I presented in this video really helps the most with this.
I always separate the pads from the towels, as the pads contain abrasives from compounds and polishes, you wouldn't want those getting stuck in the fibers of the towels and potentially scratching the finish once reused.
I like to use the first method with luke warm water right after I'm done correcting the car. I find that the pads come out super clean as long as you don't let the compound and polishes dry for too long in the pores
Hey Pan, Just wondering why you don't further rinse out the pad with straight water after using the pad washer? Wouldn't the chemical used for breaking down the wax/polish still leave residue that could affect the pad next time it's used? It could mix into the new compound/polish that you would be using???
Hey William, The Dirt Lock bucket filter works to pull and suck the grit and compound coming off the polishing pad. The water is actually super clean, it only changes color from the dye that is used in the compound, which is completely harmless! :)
Hey pam I was curious what pad would you recommend for metal polishing with a da polisher? I have a lot to polish and doing it all by hand sounds awful..
Hey Pan!! I like your videos but have a questioned. When detailing and polishing I notice my pads will get very hot. Do I really need to use a “pad conditioner” like what chemical guys sells? I’ve read mixed things, some people say spraying anything on a pad even ONR negatively impacts your polish. Should you just clean or rinse out or wait? Is one spray of a quick detailed like mequiars sufficient for a hot pad??
You can use a pad washer with a rinseless wash in it to clean your pads between passes, absolutely no problem. It cleans and degreases the pad, all while only leaving it slightly damp. Ready to receive more compound and polish. If you watch the DIY Detail channel, Yvan uses his rinseless wash in the pad washer to clean pads, and the technique works great.
@@PanTheOrganizer right but I heard if a pad gets too hot it needs to be sprayed with either a quick detailer or rinsleess wash. However, I’ve read this isn’t true and can affect or dilute whatever compound you’re using. I’m not eeerrinf to cleaning on the go specifically. Is a pad being very hot from working an issue or can you simply just take it off the panel for 30 seconds or so and clean in the meantime with maybe a brush? Also speaking of cleaning if I don’t have access to a pad washed on the go is there anything cheaper? Is just a brush fine for a bit?
Hey man!Can I wash the pads and let’ them dry for 10-20 minutes then blow water out and will they be ready for use again? How long after cleaning until I can use again
I just use apc and fairy liquid when I need to when I’m doing my car I use 2 pads when they need to be washed I Wil use apc or somtumes just rinse them out gets rid of most of the polish wring the pad out then spin dry it on the machine then continue
Great video Pan, most useful one I've seen related to this subject. 🙂 Video idea: I'd really like to hear your thoughts on air compressors and their use in the realm of car detailing.
@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks for the reply. So no vid, I do have a quick question however. I was just wandering if there was a particular reason you choose to not use a compressor such as a particular drawback, is it to minimize your equipment to keep things uncluttered, or do you just not find them necessary because of the other tools in your arsenal. You obviously accomplish a high level of detail without them and I value your opinion. Thanks again for your great content, your production quality is top notch.
For both reasons. I don't like clutter, and in 23 years of detailing, I just never had the need for one. After decades of detailing, I also got to a point where I only offer one detailing package: the total new car prep. So the vehicles I detail are brand new mostly. I don't do those disaster details like I used to when I first started. Not worth my time. So for people who deal with disgusting older filthy cars, I could see where a compressor could be used to blow out dirt, or for use with tools like a Tornador.

Thank you, Pan. A very timely video! Hold on, how many pads are used when paint correcting a vehicle?? Do you use 2 pads each for compound, polish, and wax for a total of six?
Typically, I use 5 to 6 pads for the compound stage, and 5 to 6 pads for the polishing stage. Working with clean and fresh pads, and cleaning them between passes and panels is key to a proper and efficient paint correction.
Thank you for the video cause only doing 1 car a year I can't justify spending that amount of money for a pad washer. After you wash them wouldn't be better to reattach to your polisher and spin it to get it to dry faster?
Hey Pan! I just got my shipment of brand new Meguiars foam pads in yesterday. Is it necessary to wash them before using them on their first application? Thanks in advance.
I have that one at home too. It does the job. I just tend to prefer the one from The Detail Guardz as I don't have to use my machine in it, and their pad cleaner liquid is really great.
Hi pan. Just abit off topic with all the new ceramic coating and graphene coatings coming out do you still consider opti coat pro plus the best protection for your car excluding ppf. Cheers
It's the best professional grade ceramic coating yes. The competition is very strong in the pro grade coatings world now. And there is one I'm currently testing that might equal it, or perhaps beat it. More on that soon.

Hi pan this Carlos from Orlando fl what I am
Asking how long you work the polish and sealer into the paint please advise me
Due to this channel I have been able to do a full paint correction and ceramic coating. With 0 experience before watching this channel.
Congrats Andrew. What polisher did you buy and what brand of coating did you choose
Same here - three years ago when I bought my golf R! Used pan’s method to do a full clay bar, 1-stage compound to get the dealer-induced swirls out, then polish with essence, then ceramic coating! Using a griot’s 6inch DA polisher and so far it’s working very well for my needs - I’m no professional so it’s perfect to just do my vehicles.
@@pjfan173 Thanks Pan!! I used the Rupez mark 3 with their 3 stage system and their pads. Then I used the CQuartz 3.0 for my ceramic. All thanks to your channel! I have enjoyed the videos and now have a new hobby
Pan is awesome! He knows so much, helping us constantly!providing links to everything He uses....takes the time to record, edit and shares videos! He is an asset to all of us! Thanks, Pan!
Ah thanks for that Andrew! If I can teach my viewers a thing or two about detailing, I can go to sleep happier at night. :)
Curly Wolf here - I really appreciate Pan’s honest and enduring enthusiasm for detailing and teaching. His infectious love for what he does helps me want to strive for excellence in detailing my car and whatever I’m doing. Thanks, Pan!
I appreciate that! What's your favourite video on my channel so far Curly?
@@PanTheOrganizer Hard to select a single favorite, but among the ones I like best are the ones with Yvan and the garage tour. I also enjoyed the interviews with the scientists at Turtle Wax, 303, and the blending company. These latter three granted me new insights into the industry behind the industry! - Curly Wolf.
I would like to thank Pan for getting me hooked on car/bike detailing... I am about 600 dollars in deep with my Karcher K3, IK multi pro pump bottles, sprayers, 4 different foam cannons, dressers, drying towels and assorted micro-fiber towels, car pro gear coming out the wah-zoo and of course brushes....I just need to look eventually at getting buffing/cutting and polishing gear which is going to hurt me again and got a feeling I need to spend another grand to have the entire car detailing deluxe kit 😂😂😂.
Glad I could share the detailing bug Tommy! 👏🏻👍🏻
Are you kidding me?!?! I just ordered pads for my polisher and you upload this video. Pan, you are always on time! Thanks for the video!
Glad I could help! And you guessed it, having clean pads and cleaning them as you polish (after passes or panels) is key to a proper paint correction.

Just want to thank you for this video. I bought and used my polisher for the first time today, and accidentally went over an aluminum trim piece that put black oxidation into the pad - which then showed up in the white paint. Cleaned the pad with dish soap and it looks like new.
👍🏻👍🏻
That bucket pad washer worked surprisingly well!
It sure did! I love it for quickly cleaning pads while polishing a car. I can use 10 to 12 pads for a car, so this really helps my speed and efficiency!
I’ve actually combined method 1 and 3. I’ll rinse with a detergent in the sink then put them in the washer with my microfiber towels

Excellent video as always. What technique do _you_ use and _how often_ do you clean a pad when polishing a car? My practice may be too careful
- wash polishing pad every two panels.
- walk into the kitchen, rinse pad with the sink sprayer
- spray pad cleaner on the pad, scrub with dedicated brush
- rinse and wring
- mount pad on polisher, hold down and away from car and run polisher at 4 of 6 speed to expel water

I was wondering what is the best way to clean my pads. Thanks for this video.
You are so welcome!
Great info and timing. I gave pads to clean. Also very useful to know how many pads you use for a typical car
Thanks Ric!
One more thing that I have learned from You my Man. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. Blessings from LA 🙏🙏🙏

How many panels/sections between pad wash? Should a visible look determine when to wash or should I assume several panels or doing the entire vehicle as long as the pad doesn't appear to have a lot of buildup? I'm just a first time end user with a new polishing tool on a 3 yr old black Silverado.

Great video as always! I use all 3 methods depending on the mood that I am in. Most of the time I feel I can get the best results when I do it by hand though.
Any suggestions for pads that have been saturated; too much wax was used and I can squeeze the liquid product out of the pad.

Some people, like Yvan, prefer using one pad for each step (one pad for compound, one pad for polish), but clean the pad after each section using a pad washer like this: amzn.to/3I8AVOS
I reviewed that pad washer in this video: ruclips.net/video/vfKgy7LOhh4/видео.htmlsi=E22XFKghVdOcKP-o
Others, like Matt, prefer using multiple pads for each step (4-5 pads for compound, 4-5 pads for polish) and the switch pads after every other panel or so.
Both achieve the same goal: working with clean pads. The clean pads always are more efficient as they correct better. Dirty pads filled with spent compounding polish don't cut as well. So working with clean pads is key.
So like many things in detailing, there isn't one right or wrong answer. It's just different techniques.

Yes same method. Or just a bit of APC, work it in and rinse.
When applying graphene or ceramic coatings (in glass bottles), always throw away the applicators and towels used for the application and removal.

I use Griots micro/foam pad cleaner....Quick question...ceramic wax then sealent....
Or sealant then ceramic wax
Ceramic first. It bonds to paint
Sealant first then ceramic wax

Thank you. I think I can easily make a pad cleaner like that. The other ones they sell are too expensive. Good idea.
Thanks for watching!
@@PanTheOrganizer Thank you for your help, you are one of my biggest inspirations for car detail.
So how many pads do I need for a small pickup truck (buffing/correcting) and (wax applying)
Great video. All of your videos are great. I needed this information
Awesome! Thank you!
Pan. Can I just wash the microfiber towels with the pads together using free n clear detergent in cold water ? Dry on tumble air dry ?
I always separate the pads from the towels, as the pads contain abrasives from compounds and polishes, you wouldn't want those getting stuck in the fibers of the towels and potentially scratching the finish once reused.
I like to use the first method with luke warm water right after I'm done correcting the car. I find that the pads come out super clean as long as you don't let the compound and polishes dry for too long in the pores
When you change pads, do you put the dirty pad in a bucket of water while you finish the rest of the car?
Yeah the main point is in fact to don't let the compound and polish dry for too long and "cake" the pad. Makes it harder to clean afterwards.
You Pan Are A True Blessing
THANK YOU AGAIN.

Bonsoir pan belle vidéo instructif même si je n'est pas tous compris en anglais bon week-end
Merci Bruno bon weekend à toi aussi!
Perfect timing. About to tackle a huge truck with only a few pads.
Using clean pads, and cleaning them as you polish (in between passes or after each panel) is key to a proper paint correction job.
Hey Pan,
Just wondering why you don't further rinse out the pad with straight water after using the pad washer? Wouldn't the chemical used for breaking down the wax/polish still leave residue that could affect the pad next time it's used? It could mix into the new compound/polish that you would be using???
Absolutely no worries there. It rinses off cleanly. You could rinse with water if you really wanted to, but I didn't see any difference.
I have a lot to polish and doing it all by hand sounds awful..
ruclips.net/video/_u83kxYunf8/видео.html
If they’re only slightly damps after you spin them dry, yes it’s ok.
I just use apc and fairy liquid when I need to when I’m doing my car I use 2 pads when they need to be washed I Wil use apc or somtumes just rinse them out gets rid of most of the polish wring the pad out then spin dry it on the machine then continue

I'd really like to hear your thoughts on air compressors and their use in the realm of car detailing.
Thanks Thomas! Unfortunately, I don’t use air compressors.
@@PanTheOrganizer
Thanks for the reply.

Huge Mahalo for the replies and sharing your insight. I know you're a busy guy and I truly appreciate your taking the time to answer fan questions. 🤙🏽
My pleasure Thomas! Hey, what's your favourite video on my channel so far?
Ok Im new to all of this so i have a stupid question. Is this is the same process you use to clean wax out of your foam applicator pads?
Yes
Got a question. What kind of arm and light is on your polisher? Looks cool
It's a Buff Brite Flamethrower polishing LED light. I reviewed it here: ruclips.net/video/Qfq6HsmOS9c/видео.html
Merci pan,d après la vidéo,utilise tu d abord un liquide vaisselle et ensuite un produit de nettoyage pour les pads,et rincer à l eau tiède ou froide, merci beaucoup pour tes conseils précieux a tantôt bonne journée Fred boni
Yes, you can put in a bucket while spinning the pad on the polisher, so the liquid doesn't fly all over the place though.
@PanTheOrganizer yea that makes since lol thank you
Hey Pan! I just got my shipment of brand new Meguiars foam pads in yesterday. Is it necessary to wash them before using them on their first application? Thanks in advance.
No. You can start using them right away as is.
I bought the Lake Country System 3000 Pad Cleaner. What is your thoughts on it
I have that one at home too.
Cheers mate. Great content as always
Thanks Fred!
Am I the only one that has figured out that soap does very little bit alcohol completely removes it? I've been using Pan's method for years. But I had a lake country orange that I could tell still had white polish in it. So I sprayed some IPA on a small section, looked like brand new orange compared to the soap cleaner section.
Great as always Pan
Thanks Mike!
Try using your carpet/upholstery extractor with apc and warm water
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Hey, what's your favourite video on my channel?
@@PanTheOrganizer that’s a tough one! I just watched your video of you washing your M550i and I really enjoyed that because it gave me some insights on how to be more efficient in my detailing. I haven’t seen a video yet that I haven’t liked a ton. You’re a huge inspiration and great mentor thanks for all you do!
Love this guy
Ah thanks Dennis! What's your favourite video on my channel so far?
