Thanks for this video. What pads would you suggest I use on an 05 Navigator. It has been neglected through the years and has plenty of small scratchs. I want it to look good, I dont think I want to go through cuting, polishing and then wax. Can i go straight to polish and wax or would that be a waste of time?
great explanation, thanks a lot, I just bought a new car and it does not have many swirls, still I want to correct the most as possible before coating, sadly in my garage I can't use my polish machine, but since it does not have many deep swirls I will do it by hand. which pad would you recommend me to do this job? thanks in advance.
My order of blacklight car wash and glaze arrived yesterday. I'm going to get the harbor freight polisher today. I plan on washing the truck claying it putting the blacklight glaze on then using the wet butter wax. Can I use just the orange white and black pads for that whole process? Or would it be better for me to purchase the blue pad for the glaze? I'm new to this so any information will help.
Hey Jason, sounds like you have a great plan of action! Yes, you can use the orange and white pads for the polishing process, then use the black pad for the glaze and wax. Check out the link below for more information and tips to use while polishing! Thanks for watching Jason and happy detailing! www.chemicalguys.com/How_To_Choose_The_Right_Compound_Or_Polish_For_Your_Car_s/644.htm www.chemicalguys.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/HexLogicPolishingPadChart.jpg
Hey guys, Love the videos! I just got myself a Porter Cable DA, and I'm excited to get started detailing! I'm currently working on a 2001 Subaru, and the Orange, Green then White is working really well! But I'm moving onto a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, and its simply just swirls and mildew. I don't know which cutting pad to select, as this paint is thinner than the subie and from my knowledge a soft paint and I don't want to cut too much out/cut down to paint. Have any tips or recommendations?
If time is not a problem and I have all the products, should I do a 2-3 step polish and finish with V38? I am asking because sometimes I see that you stop at V36 and was wondering if you stop there because the V38 would be overkill? Also I have a white 2013 volkswagen jetta and was wondering if that paint is considered ''hard'' or ''soft''? I tried V36 with an orange hex pad and it removed about 20% of the swirls. Should I try V34 or even V32 with an orange pad? I am affraid to go to aggresive. I have the torq 10FX and use it on speed 5
try sticking with the V36/VSS but switch over to the mircofiber pad. If that doesnt work u can switch over to a 34 with a yellow pad, and if that doesnt work then switch back over to a microfiber pad again and so forth. Just work your way down from least aggressive in pads and compounds. You'll see that there are many different combinations that could get the job done! hope this helps.
HI. The issue is in 4" I can not get a Blue pad (finest polishing one). It does come with a black pad however. Can this pad still work with polishing as I imagine it's the polish that's doing the work even if it's on a soft pad?
I have a 1986 classic car 🚗 with original paint. It sat in a garage for a number of years before I bought it and the owner told me something must have dripped on the top of the car while it was storage. It looks almost like water stains, but it’s not. A friend came by with his D.A. polisher, but it only removed the haze in the finish, the marks or swirls still remain. Anything you can suggest would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to save the paint as the car 33 years old and all original. Thanks in advance!
Hey there! That's awesome, what kind of car is it? You probably need a more aggressive combination of pad and compound/polish. An Orange Hex-Logic Pad with V36 Cutting Polish is a good starting point. Check out this video! ruclips.net/video/jl20YA-ZpWE/видео.html
Are the pad color coding universal? Or is it simply for your company? As in red lads are the softest, yellow the heavy cutting pads, white are polishing pads for all pads...so on and so forth
What PAD is recommended for a 2007 Honda Ridgeline? Hard/Soft/etc.? About my project, the clear coat has swirls and other similar scratches (imperfections). I want to correct the swirls, polish and then apply some coating (most like ceramic--no pad necessary there).
Check out these videos for great pad cleaning tips, tricks, and tools! ruclips.net/video/B9lED1PPuLY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/4vfvP1Z2R4U/видео.html
Is there such thing as a list as far as names of cars that have harder paint and softer paint like you mention F-150 Corvette has a hard paint how about a Honda or GM product. How would you go about finding out if it's hard or soft paint on the vehicle you're working on?
You can use an Orange Hex-Logic Cutting Pad to remove light scratches and swirls from your paint and then follow it up with a White Hex-Logic Polishing pad with a finer polish to refine the paint and bring out the deep luster of the paint.
hi good video.... what products do you recommend me for boats?? what type of pads and chemicals? I have three and I want they look new again.... thanks!!!!!!
what type of pad would be good for 2003 chevy cavalier fresh painted 1 week ago,and what would be good to bring back faded paint on a 1973 vw super beetle....
I Keep seeing all these different color pads (with no continuity between different manufacturers) and no one answers the basic question: Are the pads abrasive-infused with different size grits or are the pads simply different durometers / stiffness?
Hi Hal, this is a trifling question indeed, I actually found a really detailed article on the subject that I think will answer many of your questions, and it will teach me a thing or too about pads as well. The simple answer is the stiffness of the pad and the density of the foam, however I'll take a seat back and allow the article to more accurately describe what's actually happening. www.ereplacementparts.com/article/2663/Abrasives_Polishing_Pads.html C.G. Old 2003 Corolla. Paint is in good ahpe with a few scratches. What paid and wax hould I use to touch it up and which pad should be used on the plasitic headlights that have sunfaded?
Hi! We always recommend starting on a test spot with V36 and an Orange Pad and then adjusting from there. Wax will not remove any scratches and is a final step in the detailing process. When you get to that step, you can use a cream wax like Butter Wet Wax (my favorite), which is super easy and fast to apply, or you can go with a traditional paste wax such as Pete's 53. I'm going to link an article about how to choose the proper pad, compound, and polish for your car. It will lay out each step you need to take to figure out exactly what products are right for your car. I will also link Butter Wet Wax, Pete's 53, and the detailing flow chart below so you can see all the steps to a full detail in their proper order. I need 2 pads. One to removes fine little swirls. Another one to apply ceramic sealer and make it shine.. I owen a 18 black silverado. Any suggestions on what pads to use for black paint
So is the white microfiber pads about the same as the white foam ones? Like I've seen red microfiber pads, white like those 2 in this vid, light blue microfiber pads, etc. Should I consider the microfiber pads colors to be for about what the foams colors are used for? And the strength of the polishes/compounds for the color of the micros should also be about the same as you would use with the colors of the foam pads? Thanks!
Hey Michael, that's not exactly true. As you heard in the video, of the two white pads in the video, one was a cutting pad and the other, a finishing pad. This video is quite old and now we offer an orange and black microfiber pad. Choose the Orange Microfiber Cutting Pad to remove heavy swirls, scratches, oxidation, and defects from single stage and clear coat finishes. Follow up with the Black Microfiber Finishing Pad to restore depth, gloss, and luster, and refine any heavy compounding marks. Conversely, the Black Hex Logic Foam is a finishing pad with no cut. Thanks for watching, Michael, and check back later today for a new video upload!
Chemical Guys, Ahhh, gotcha! Otw to website now to get me a black and an orange micro! Anyone know if i need the hex no cut pad as well? Thx for the help CG's.
If you want to apply glaze, sealant, and/or wax my machine, then yes, you should pick up the black Hex Logic pad, as you should never apply them a microfiber pad. If you choose to apply by hand, then you won't need the Hex Logic pad. Also, just a reminder that you can only apply glazes, sealants, and waxes with a DA machine and not a rotary.
Ex support CG's! Big help(to me, anyway). Last ? for y'all! If u can answer that is, and an opinion is totally fine! Don't say anything that's trying to sell me something though, please, as I already bought the other pads from here so u know I'll buy if I should, but does anyone apply that last stage(glaze, sealant, wax) by hand anymore, or is trend now to use Hex logic black pads or whatever, like a machine now a days for it instead of hand pads? Don't matter to me, I just wanna figure out what the better of the 2 is, if one's even better than the other. Thx for y'alls support!! Big Time. Oh crap, I forgot to ask you if I ordered the right size micro orange and black- " Chemical Guys BUFX_304_6 - Black Optics Microfiber Orange Cutting Pad (6.5") "- and the other microfiber one- " Chemical Guys BUFX_305_6 - Black Optics Microfiber Black Polishing Pad (6.5") "! Woops. Oh yea, I got a new 6" backing plate. Has velcro, "hook n loop" I guess ya call it. Decent da but not porter cable quality. I'm also prob gettin ready to buy y'alls da, that newer more ergonomic one, not the other one y'all have been sellin for long time. The other, can't remamber the name though! ughh! Hope I edited this in time! Can y'all suggest the right liquid stuff as well? Likje the correct compound, polish, wax, etc, etc stuff for these pads? I got 06 RED Ram, hemi, 4 door, never been taken care of properly but it's paint's still lookin decent. (paint's called the "inferno" red by the door code)Just some scratches in lots and lots of places. Some deep as shit! Some not. But paint still shines somewhat, especially for not being taken care of right for 10 years or so. That's it CG's! I'll leave y'all alone now! Or go back to ur site for anymore questions!!!
If i have a backplate just short of 6" what size pads should i purchase it came with a 7" pad which is redicously big for my vehicle do i go for 4" 5" or 6" ?? Many thanks for any answers
Hi! Great question. We have found 5.5" pads to be the perfect size that strikes the balance of coverage and focused cutting power. In fact, all of our polishers ship with 5" backing plates and 5.5" pads! Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!
What if I use the black pad for a finishing polish like Menzerna SF4500? It would still have the amount of cut the polish offers right? And if I jump up to a white pad with the same polish, this just offers more cut?
I'm in the process of polishing a 1946 Teardrop trailer that's made out of aircraft aluminum that has oxidized, and I've done one side of the trailer by using Blue Magic metal cleaner which came out okay but was a lot of work I'm not going to try with pads on side but was wondering which pad I should use to apply the Blue Magic metal cleaner with? The wool pad or one of the foam pads? Thanks for any help you can give .
Great video what would you recommend for a single stage paint found on old beetles? Thanks for your help I'm fortunate to have a Chemical Guys in my city !!
Greg I own a Mercedes car in which I have plenty of swirl and water marks, with some of them a little deep. I don't know exactly which pad I have to use for this job. Should I use the v36 with an orange pad or the v36 with the green pad? I intent on finish the car with the black light or the butter wax.
eyad aljamal Yes! Stiffer pads make more resistance, friction, heat, and therefore cutting ability. Softer pads make less resistance and heat, so they do not cut. Soft pads are perfect for spreading glaze, sealant, and wax.
I was wondering if I was using my microfiber correctly. Glad I'm using for final polish. I thought it was maybe cutting like wool. Turns out I need wool for an agro cutting pad. My pads are cheaper and different via Amazon, but this was helpful. I definitely see the value in chem guys pads also, which might make me purchase in future once I learn basics with my vehicles
help.. I have an 07 C6 Corvette with black paint. what pads do you recommend? I don't have swirl marks. I am going to clay the car and then proceed from there.
I have some 7075 aluminum I want to polish and have all hexlogic pads including the compound pack that's often sold with it. After rough sanding with 80 to remove machining marks, which pad and compound would be recommended?
After watching several videos on pads , I’m thinking of just staying with hand waxing. Too intimidating . Twice a year I clay bar , then use white lightning and jet seal by hand. I think I’m returning the buffer/polisher I just got today.
Im looking to buff resin. I start out at 200 grit sand paper and work my way up to 2,000. after Im using a novus 3 step polishing comound. Then I hit it with a 3M 35928 Finesse-it II Marine Glaze to remove the very fine swirls. What polishing pads would you reccomend for to achieve a clean polish without any scratches?
Hey, great videos :-) Silly question then... Whats the best order to completely correct the paint and get it looking good? Cut, Polish, Wax and then Seal? Thanks Karl
I have a 6" backing plate on my DA, biggest hex pad I can find is 5.5inches, currently have a dodojuice 150mm pad, backing fits fine but the sponge overhangs a little. Will a 5.5" fit my DA? Cheers.

Hey everyone! I just bought my first rotary polisher today am i'm extremely excited to move up from a random orbital. Anyways, I did have one quick question that wasn't in the video. What about waffle cone pads? are they any better? Can someone plz explain, thanks.
Great video! Question- I tried to repair some scratches on my bumper by wet sanding then using a spray can with factory matched paint, but the paint-can sprayed unevenly and looks "bumpy"? Will using a buffing machine, with a cutting pad, and a cutting compound smooth out the paint? What pad would you recommend to use with my variable speed buffer?
Hey Buddy, thanks for watching. Start light, you don't need a compound for this job, a light polish like V36 will probably get the job done. If V36 doesn't do the job, then you move onto something like V34. If V36 works, finish off with V38 to refine the paint, I would use a white pad with that. Start with an orange pad with V36, then finish with V38 and a white pad. C.G. Alex -
I have a 06 cadillac dts ,,,black paint job that needs attention,,light scratches and marks,,overall good condition..should i use a gray bar to clean the car before any cutting and buffing,,,
How do these pads stick to the base pad? I have a 5” air driven orbital sander with hook and loop base pad. Can I use it with these pads and will it buff out a hand wax job? How many pads will I need to apply wax and buff out wax?
Hi there! The Hex-Logic Pad also uses a hook and loop backing to attach to the corresponding backing plate. Wax can be applied with one finishing pad such as the Black Hex-Logic Pad and buffed off with a clean microfiber towel.
Hey I am going to buy one step polish (polish+finish+protection, Menzerna 3 in 1). So is it better for me to buy the green pad or the white pad because I want to have a nice shiny finish and protection film created after polishing.
Hey Marko, the green pad is definitely more aggressive and is considered a heavy polishing pad. The white pad is less aggressive with less cut and is considered a medium-light polishing pad. The pad you use will depend on the condition of your paint and the recommendations of the polish you are using. Check out the chart below to see all the color pads and what they do. When detailers use our premium one step polishes such as VSS, we recommend the green pad for medium scratches and swirls and the white pad for light scratches and swirls. Thanks for watching, Marko, and stay tuned for a new video dropping later today! www.chemicalguys.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/HexLogicPolishingPadChart.jpg
Hello! Should there be any very small swirls (not visible to normal light - but visible in a very sunny California day at noon) after treating a Jeep Wrangler with an Orange Hex-Logic Pad with V32; and then a White Hex-Logic Pad with V38? And should I follow with a VSS Swirl Remover? Note: the clear-coat was in terrible shape, and now is great; but it is still not perfect (is perfection even achievable? - make it look like brand new again?). Thanks for your help
Hi Frank! No paint will ever come out in perfect shape. We recommend applying a glaze to fill in the micro scratches left behind. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!
@@ChemicalGuys Thank you for your answer. You just gave me another tool; and please accept my apologies if I am too detailed, but your passion is contagious :)
I also would like to know how to clean the pads, dry, and can the pads be reused? What speeds does the machine use, I understand low, med, hi, but I'm asking rpm information. Thank you.
Hi! Yes, Hex Logic pads sure can be reused when cleaned and cared for properly. You have a couple of options when it comes to cleaning your pads. You can either clean them by hand with a brush and Pad Cleaner, or you can use the Universal Pad Washer. If you only have a couple of pads to clean, then doing it by hand is probably sufficient. However, if you run a shop or detail many cars, the pad washer is probably a good investment. After cleaning the pads, allow to air dry in a clean, dry location. I will leave a link to some videos below on how to clean pads. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/B01zu7wuGA0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/4vfvP1Z2R4U/видео.html

Hey Jason, sounds like you have a great plan of action! Yes, you can use the orange and white pads for the polishing process, then use the black pad for the glaze and wax. Check out the link below for more information and tips to use while polishing! Thanks for watching Jason and happy detailing!

Did you figure it out?
Are those color coding standard across different brands or just for chemical guys? And for foam or microfiber, which is better for new honda? Thanks!
These would be within the Hex-Logic pads. Colors may vary depending on brand. For newer paint, we recommend using a foam pad.
Thanks!
Need to remove swirl on my Black Denali Yukon. I'm going to use Porter 7424XP what would be the pads you use from your polishing pads
Orange
What would you recommend on a 2000 explorer pearl white finish.
Thanks
What PAD is recommended for a 2007 Honda Ridgeline? Hard/Soft/etc.? About my project, the clear coat has swirls and other similar scratches (imperfections). I want to correct the swirls, polish and then apply some coating (most like ceramic--no pad necessary there).
Thanks for the video; do you have a video on care and maintenance of the pads? Are they one and done pads or reusable?

Happy detailing!!
Is there such thing as a list as far as names of cars that have harder paint and softer paint like you mention F-150 Corvette has a hard paint how about a Honda or GM product. How would you go about finding out if it's hard or soft paint on the vehicle you're working on?
Headlghts...wool or orange pad for cutting? For v34, usually v36.
Hi Aaron! Use an Orange Foam Pad to restore headlights.
Thanks for explaining the wool pad.
Happy detailing!
Thanks, this was short and to the point. Very much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
Any Tips for polishing my 2010 BMW F800GS windscreen? Weathered with light scratches from all the off-road riding and dirty water drying on it.Mike.
which one would you recommend for heavy oxidation on boat gelcoat ?
Hey Mike! Polishing with a Yellow or Orange Hex-Logic Pad with a compound works well for removing heavy oxidation.
Hi guys, which pad to use for removing light scratches and swerls on 2014 honda accord. Thanks
Hi! Check out our Marine line: www.chemicalguys.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=621&Click=18676&Social&RUclips&Cat621
How should we handle the pads after use? Do they get washed? I'm thinking letting them sit between uses they can collect dist and scratch your car?
what type of pad would be good for 2003 chevy cavalier fresh painted 1 week ago,and what would be good to bring back faded paint on a 1973 vw super beetle....
Can I jump straight from a yellow to white pad or do I need to use an orange one? Will be using on a c6 Corvette
Does the green have any cut at all? Could i substitute the orange for the green if i have soft paint?
what pad do you recommend to remove oxidation from pvc clears (boat enclosures)?
Hey there! Try using an Orange Hex-Logic Pad to remove oxidation.

Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a new video dropping later today!

What type of pad would you recommend to apply Chemical Guys v4 all-in-one sealant/polish for Honda paint?
I'm in the process of polishing a 1946 Teardrop trailer that's made out of aircraft aluminum that has oxidized, and I've done one side of the trailer by using Blue Magic metal cleaner which came out okay but was a lot of work I'm not going to try with pads on side but was wondering which pad I should use to apply the Blue Magic metal cleaner with? The wool pad or one of the foam pads? Thanks for any help you can give .
Hi there! Using a microfiber pad will easily cut through oxidation and stains using metal polish.
Hey! Try using an Orange Hex-Logic Pad with V36 in a small inconspicuous area as a test spot.

so, hard pads for buffing and softer pads for waxing and polishing ?
eyad aljamal Yes! Stiffer pads make more resistance, friction, heat, and therefore cutting ability. Softer pads make less resistance and heat, so they do not cut. Soft pads are perfect for spreading glaze, sealant, and wax.
and what product should i use with harder stiffer pads ?
3M™ Perfect-It™ Rubbing Compound

compounds for removing scratches
I was wondering if I was using my microfiber correctly. Glad I'm using for final polish. I thought it was maybe cutting like wool. Turns out I need wool for an agro cutting pad. My pads are cheaper and different via Amazon, but this was helpful. I definitely see the value in chem guys pads also, which might make me purchase in future once I learn basics with my vehicles
Those pads look like they were sized by a guy who drives a lifted truck with 40" tires 😂
No, but seriously. Thank you for the product knowledge!
What pad would you use to apply butter wet wax or carnuba wax or liquid carnuba?
The black one .
Or red
Do orange pad can be used for removing small scratches on windshield?
Best video I have seen that actually explains the pads. What do you recommend for older nissan frontier paint?
Hey, great videos :-)
Silly question then...
Whats the best order to completely correct the paint and get it looking good?
Cut, Polish, Wax and then Seal?
Thanks
Karl
Dude I'm color blind what pad should I use?
After using a paint correction product is it correct to then apply sealant and then finishing wax... ?
I have a 6" backing plate on my DA, biggest hex pad I can find is 5.5inches, currently have a dodojuice 150mm pad, backing fits fine but the sponge overhangs a little. Will a 5.5" fit my DA? Cheers.
So green pad is designed for Mercedes Benz since paint/clear coat is hard and then its good for Suburu since they have soft paint/clear?
Excellent video. How about which pads for epoxy resin?
Hey! Use a Yellow or Orange Hex-Logic Pad for cutting then refine with a White Hex-Logic Pad.
I appreciate your honesty on educating us!!
Happy detailing!
what pad do you recommend for a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was thinking the orange hex
Does the coloring on the pads mean the same things across the whole industry or just for these specific ones
Hey! We recommend checking the link down below to see what pad does what. Thanks for watching!
www.chemicalguys.com/blogarticle?cid=blog-article-hex-logic-pad-color-code
Green is a more aggressive pad than the white one. White is a light polishing pad and green is a heavy polishing
Very informative, well put together video. "AWESOME!"
Hey everyone! I just bought my first rotary polisher today am i'm extremely excited to move up from a random orbital. Anyways, I did have one quick question that wasn't in the video. What about waffle cone pads? are they any better? Can someone plz explain, thanks.
So for heavily oxidated spots, grey areas (on roof), start out with orange? Or yellow 🤔
Hey! Test in a small inconspicuous area to determine the correct combination of pad and chemical.

What do you use to buff out a car with decals and pinstripes
I have a 06 cadillac dts ,,,black paint job that needs attention,,light scratches and marks,,overall good condition..should i use a gray bar to clean the car before any cutting and buffing,,,
Hi Charlie! Absolutely, the Medium Duty Clay Bar is a great choice for prepping the vehicle for paint correction.
Which pad to use to polish aluminum and remove scratches?
is my first time doing polish on my 2008 white f250 the paint show small particle of rust. what pad should i use and what product should i apply
Question from your experience what kind of pad does Toyota paint respond to well ?
Which pad should I use to clean/polish my glass cooktop??

Hey CG, which pads work best with 2007 BMWs? Polishing and removing some scratches.
Enjoy!
