Engineered, developed and tested to specific requirements of our OEM clients. These pads utilize the best foams from around the world and the latest of testing and research and development including Chemical Guys own Self Centered backing system!
The Hexagon is not new to science, it's just new to detailing. Rather then try to reinvent some catchy gimmick, Chemical Guys invests in technology that through the years has simply been unbeatable and improves on it. Hex-Logic pads are designed to hold product and distribute it evenly over the surface of the pad, delivering a superior even finish that is hard to achieve with any other pad.
Nature selected the Hexagon for storage and designed it to be one of the most efficient holding cells. For example a mass of hexagonal wax cells built by honey bees in their nests to store honey and pollen. The bees build the comb with 6 sides for even distribution of product fast and effectively.

You guys should think of providing amazon links to each product by both color & time ...
TLDR compound + polish combos (descending order of aggressiveness):
Cut:
Orange Hex: V32, V34, V36
Green Hex: V36, V38
Finish:
White Hex: V38, P40
Blue Hex: glazes (Blacklight, EZ Creme, etc)
Black Hex: wax (Carnuba Creme, Butter Wet Wax, etc)
Red Hex: sealants (Jet Seal, Top Coat, etc)
Thanks!!!
Would orange be used with rubbing compound?
what about yellow.
WHAT ABOUT YELOOWWWWW!?
@@lumpyrex007 yellow is the heaviest cutting pad like if your paint has scratches that are deep and you cant get them out with the orange
If polishing is used to bring out shine and remove scratches, and there are harder pads that u can use, why do u use “compound”?
Also... is green and orange pads for compounding and the ones on the bottom for polishing?
Please balance your volume.
Good stuff though, love the video.
Every Paintwork is Unique. Even in a specific manufacturer, the paint can differ from model to model. Every paintwork requires a "Test Spot" to ensure you have a proper combination. I would recommend to start with V36 and an orange pad as a baseline then adjust the pad or polish accordingly to achieve the desired results.

Hi! Check out the chart below to see all the color pads and their uses. It's a really useful thing to have around the garage. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back tomorrow for a new video upload! www.chemicalguys.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/HexLogicPolishingPadChart.jpg
Chemical Guys so is this universal?
Thank you guys so much! I have all the hex logic pads, but I've been using them wrong and getting frustrated. This video has shown me exactly which pad I should be using. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video. Reminds me, I need to order a few new pads!
Very comprehensive explanation of the various types of pad. Thank you.Ps: Ignore those who accuse you of "stalling and repeating". Sadly, these days, many people have the attention span of a gnat.
Yeah. They have no patience. I wonder what they're like in the bedroom.
Very 'handy'.
I agree - good call.
Great vid. Thanks for the explanation. It's nice to see the breakdown on all the pads. Thanks again!
Try using less polish. It seems like maybe you are using a little too much. You should only use 5 small dots for each section. You can always add more polish to the pad if you didnt add enough but it is much more difficult to remove polish. Once your pad gets saturate with "spent" polish, you need to clean the pad using a pad cleaning brush or a Pad Washer. I personally prefer the Pad Washer because its gets the pads VERY clean with little effort.
-Greg@CG.
The term “cutting” always confuses me, but I assume that means removing part of the clear coat?
That's correct!
Thanks! exactly the explanation I was looking for
Happy detailing!!
Than You. Enjoyed this because I learned something important about the quality, selection to use the right pads for the right resulting in an excellent car polish job. Using the right pad is important as you do not want the incorrectly use a pad not suitable for a particular and demanding job and ruin a car's paint worth several thousands of dollars. Its illuminating and enjoyed it very much.
Thanks for explaining the wool pad.
Happy detailing!
I couldn't really find anywhere that explained what each pad did. Thank you for the video now I know which pads to buy.
Hi Derek! Thanks for the awesome feedback, we are glad that you liked our Polishing and Buffing video. Happy detailing!
I'm a big Chemical guy fan here. Their products, along with the videos have educated me a good bit and I'm thankful for that so Cheer's!!
Thanks for the amazing feedback!
Just what I was looking for, as a beginner this is invaluable. Thanks Greg!!!
Thanks, this was short and to the point. Very much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
After watching several videos on pads , I’m thinking of just staying with hand waxing. Too intimidating . Twice a year I clay bar , then use white lightning and jet seal by hand. I think I’m returning the buffer/polisher I just got today.
I was wondering if I was using my microfiber correctly. Glad I'm using for final polish. I thought it was maybe cutting like wool. Turns out I need wool for an agro cutting pad. My pads are cheaper and different via Amazon, but this was helpful. I definitely see the value in chem guys pads also, which might make me purchase in future once I learn basics with my vehicles
So is this same color coding an industry wide standard?
in general, yes. But always double check.
Is there like a diagram I can print out
Yes there is and all their training can be found here - www.chemicalguys.com/HOW_TO_ARTICLES_s/338.htm
Foam color chart for dummies (beginers) Thanks, the video was helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Green is a more aggressive pad than the white one. White is a light polishing pad and green is a heavy polishing
Thank will do! I apply 50/50 by hand but I am new to the Carnuba and Liquid Carnuba....
Very informative, well put together video. "AWESOME!"

Absolutely!
Thank you
Thanks for explaining the polishes... now it makes sense...
You're welcome, Julio. Check out the article below, too. It clearly lays out which pad and chemical you should start off with and where you should go from there. Thanks for watching, Julio, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family!

Are the pad color coding universal? Or is it simply for your company?
As in red lads are the softest, yellow the heavy cutting pads, white are polishing pads for all pads...so on and so forth
Hi, I really don't understand at full about Paint types (Hard, medium, soft or something). So what paint type would my Audi A3 2010 would be? it's a dark grey, almost black. Besides, what type of pad should I use for cutting / polishing / finishing) thanks
Thanks Greg! Just got my 7424 XP today! I can't wait it to experiment with your guys products
What pad would you use to apply butter wet wax or carnuba wax or liquid carnuba?
The black one .
Or red
WANT the precious PADssssss..........My precious.....
I Keep seeing all these different color pads (with no continuity between different manufacturers) and no one answers the basic question: Are the pads abrasive-infused with different size grits or are the pads simply different durometers / stiffness?
Hi Hal, this is a trifling question indeed, I actually found a really detailed article on the subject that I think will answer many of your questions, and it will teach me a thing or too about pads as well. The simple answer is the stiffness of the pad and the density of the foam, however I'll take a seat back and allow the article to more accurately describe what's actually happening.

C.G. Alex -
I will be using a Shurhold DA buffer.
you should put a description/foam type on the back of the pad
Thanks so much for your suggestion!
Cool, thanks. I'll have to try that out.
Best video I have seen that actually explains the pads. What do you recommend for older nissan frontier paint?
What do you use to buff out a car with decals and pinstripes
What's the difference between wave/waffle pads and flat?
I bought your Vss one step to use on my Vette .which pad would you recommend and how many pads will I need. (First time using da) Thanks
Great informational video. Looking to do my e46 soon.
Hi StanceTv! We always love awesome feedback. Stay tuned for more videos coming your way. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!
Those pads look like they were sized by a guy who drives a lifted truck with 40" tires 😂
No, but seriously. Thank you for the product knowledge!
Alot of chemical guys haters on YT but I like them :)
what pad would you recommend for polishing Tesla pearl white multi coat before applying a ceramic paint coating?
Always start with white and move up to orange
Ceramic coating can be polished off. Where are these people getting their information from. my gosh....
Are those color coding standard across different brands or just for chemical guys? And for foam or microfiber, which is better for new honda? Thanks!
These would be within the Hex-Logic pads. Colors may vary depending on brand. For newer paint, we recommend using a foam pad.
Thanks!
Does the green have any cut at all? Could i substitute the orange for the green if i have soft paint?
Great video, this really helped me.
to confusing to many pads wish it was simple gut still great vid
Hi there, thanks for watching. I recommend checking out the Chemicals Guys website, we have a page dedicated to the uses of the pads. Here's a link to it so you can understand what each pad does. Once you read up on them, you will be more confident on what they do, and when to use them. Whatwww.chemicalguys.com/Hex_Logic_7_5_Buffing_Pad_Kit_p/buf_hexkits_9rotary.htm

What if I use the black pad for a finishing polish like Menzerna SF4500? It would still have the amount of cut the polish offers right? And if I jump up to a white pad with the same polish, this just offers more cut?
Very cool information! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your awesome feedback and thanks for watching. Happy detailing!
Mr. you forgot light yellow pad on your left
yes, i have one of those pads. i wanted to know what it was for.
@@LastHumansGarage Did you ever figure out what that pad was for? I cant find any information anywhere on it. I have the light yellow pad and have no clue what to use it on..
Thank you for all information!
You're welcome David! Glad you found this video useful. I think this video is a little bit better in terms of explanation.

So green pad is designed for Mercedes Benz since paint/clear coat is hard and then its good for Suburu since they have soft paint/clear?
which one would you recommend for heavy oxidation on boat gelcoat ?
Hey Mike! Polishing with a Yellow or Orange Hex-Logic Pad with a compound works well for removing heavy oxidation.
How to I know whether my paint is (Hard, medium, soft or something)? I did a ground up restoration on a 1988 Alfa Spider, but I'm not sure of the paint.
Which pad is for butter wax?
Hi! Use a Black Hex-Logic Pad to spread a fine coat of glaze, sealant and wax.
Hi guys, which pad to use for removing light scratches and swerls on 2014 honda accord. Thanks
You can use an Orange Hex-Logic Cutting Pad to remove light scratches and swirls from your paint and then follow it up with a White Hex-Logic Polishing pad with a finer polish to refine the paint and bring out the deep luster of the paint.
So I can use the orange pad for my black light, the white one for jet seal and the black one for butter wax ?
Hi! Use the Orange Hex-Logic Pad for compound/polish and the White Hex-Logic for final or light polish. The Black Hex-Logic Pad can be used to apply glaze, sealant and/or wax.
What you recommended for polish clear coat
Hi Ricardo! Start with an Orange Hex-Logic Pad and V36 Cutting Polish. From there you can determine if more abrasives are necessary.
If I use the green, light cutting pad on a DA polisher to remove light swirl marks, how many clean pads should I use for the entire car?
Hey! It is normal to have two of the same pads or to clean the pad during the job.
So for heavily oxidated spots, grey areas (on roof), start out with orange? Or yellow 🤔
Hey! Test in a small inconspicuous area to determine the correct combination of pad and chemical.
what kind of pad should i use ? i have tried the orange pad and just want to remove some swirls and minor scratches, but the orange pad just creates far more swirls and clear scratches.. 2003 audi a4
very helpful video....thanks!
Thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback!
There is a way to remove orange perl without sanding just with compound?
Hi Rafael, good question. Orange peel is going to require wet sanding- there really isn't a way to remove it with just compound. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back tomorrow for a new video upload!
Can I jump straight from a yellow to white pad or do I need to use an orange one? Will be using on a c6 Corvette
Excellent video. How about which pads for epoxy resin?
Hey! Use a Yellow or Orange Hex-Logic Pad for cutting then refine with a White Hex-Logic Pad.
Question from your experience what kind of pad does Toyota paint respond to well ?
What kind of pad would you use for a fiberglass rv with a gel coat? I’ve heard wool is best
Im looking to do a one step with the VSS. So orange would be my best bet? light to medium scratches
Thanks for checking out the video! I've included a link to the hex pad page of our site which outlines all the uses for the different polishing pads, I've also included a description of the orange pad which would be the best choice for you based on the amount of scratches and swirls in your car's paint.
Orange Medium-Heavy Cutting Pad-This firm, high density foam is ideal for scratch and defect removal. The orange foam offers the correction of a typical compounding pad while at the same time allowing the polishing ability of light cut foam pad. When used with heavier compounds it will remove moderate swirls and scratches with little or no haze. Its an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

Is pad color universal in detailing industry
Do orange pad can be used for removing small scratches on windshield?
When i am polishing my orange pad and some v34 i find that half way through the job the pad gets clogged with the polish and isn't as effective as when i first started out on the car. Is there something i am doing wrong?
great explanation, thanks a lot, I just bought a new car and it does not have many swirls, still I want to correct the most as possible before coating, sadly in my garage I can't use my polish machine, but since it does not have many deep swirls I will do it by hand. which pad would you recommend me to do this job? thanks in advance.
what type of pad should I use to remove overspray paint. neighbor was painting his home.
Need advice on what pads to use for a 15 WRX with very minor defects. I've got V36+V38 and a HF DA with a CG 5" backing plate on. I know that subaru paint is relatively soft...my goal is to polish-seal-wax..
My lineup:
5" CG Backing Plate
V36
V38
Jetseal
CG Butter Wet Wax
Great info I like lake countrys pads personally
Hi James, Lake Country pads are excellent pads! Thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!

help.. I have an 07 C6 Corvette with black paint. what pads do you recommend? I don't have swirl marks. I am going to clay the car and then proceed from there.
hi the video is perfect for the beginners who wants to get their cars polished.question: I have a bmw x5 2008, does it have a hard paint or soft paint?
Seal then wax I believe, I'm sure CG will correct me if I'm wrong!
After using a paint correction product is it correct to then apply sealant and then finishing wax... ?
So my DA kit came with orange, white, and black.
He said red is for sealant...
So I can't apply sealant with the black? But I can apply wax with the black....
Seems confusing
Hi! You can use the red or the black pad to apply sealant. Both pads don't have any cut, so you are totally safe to use either! Check out the pad chart below for further details. Thanks for watching and make sure to check back later today for a new video upload!

What's a good pad for removing water spots on paint and glass?
so would an orange pad be bad for a benz c300 black? green only? with cutting compound?
How do these pads stick to the base pad? I have a 5” air driven orbital sander with hook and loop base pad. Can I use it with these pads and will it buff out a hand wax job? How many pads will I need to apply wax and buff out wax?
Hi there! The Hex-Logic Pad also uses a hook and loop backing to attach to the corresponding backing plate. Wax can be applied with one finishing pad such as the Black Hex-Logic Pad and buffed off with a clean microfiber towel.
Any Tips for polishing my 2010 BMW F800GS windscreen? Weathered with light scratches from all the off-road riding and dirty water drying on it.Mike.
Headlghts...wool or orange pad for cutting? For v34, usually v36.
Hi Aaron! Use an Orange Foam Pad to restore headlights.
I have the orange pad for compounding and I dislike it so much. It's so hard/stiff it wont bend, so when you compound cars with many concaves with it it wont fold into the concaves. I also use the white pad for polishing and black one for applying sealants/waxes but I like these last two, just dislike the orange pad, think it's too stiff.
+Amateur Detailing Its all bullshit gimmick man. Just choose the pad that has the softness and flexibility that you need... and then just overlay the pad with a microfibre towel or something. So you're just using the foam pad as a backing. I overlay my foam pad with a nice soft, thick, high thread count t-shirt.
Try the green.
is my first time doing polish on my 2008 white f250 the paint show small particle of rust. what pad should i use and what product should i apply
