I bought a Juki TL2200QVP Mini from Echidna Sewing after watching this video. I had done some background research and decided on the Juki because of its reputation for quality and everyone seems to love it. I'm a total beginner. My first use of the Juki was to bind a handmade queen-sized quilt that took me years to piece and quilt. The binding came out really well. I love that I could slow the machine way down. I know I will still love it when I'm much more skilled (and faster). My next quilt will be 100% sewn on the machine. This video was very helpful in getting me started. Thank you (and thanks to the camera guy - the close-in shots with Gary using the tweezers were hugely helpful in threading the bobbin and the needle).
You're welcome! It's great to hear that you had a positive experience with your Juki TL2200QVP Mini and that the video you mentioned was helpful in getting you started with your quilting projects. Juki is indeed known for its quality and performance in the sewing machine industry, and it's wonderful that you're enjoying your new machine.
I have had the TL 2010 for about 3 years and I love love love and adore this machine. Perfect for piecing. Fabulous for free motion. Really solid and never bad sewer.
Thank you! I have been using this machine for 6 years. Best machine I ever worked with ( I have many). I sew garments, quilt and use it on my Grace quilt frame. It’s not only well built, pretty and smooth running, it’s easy to clean and oil.
When I first tried using the automatic needle threader I struggled. It wasn’t so automatic. I persevered & but once I understood it, it’s really super easy. Love this machine ❤
Brought the tlq 2200qvpmini a few weeks back. Your explanations are great! Understand the needle threader a bit more and didn't realise about passing the thread through the hole first when winding the bobbin. Grateful. 🧡 Cheers, M
I've had the TL-2010 for 8 years and absolutely love it. It really does sew like butter and I have never had a single problem with it. I just moved to Europe from the US so had to sell my machine and am about to buy the TL2200QVP as it's replacement. This was a good comparison ... really nice to know I can find essentially the same machine.
Thank you, Gary for the wonderful tutorial. I just got a new Juki TL-2010Q and have been watching some videos to get more familiar with my new machine. I want to do some more practice stitching before I fully change over from my Janome DC2019. I have a pretty simple quilt pattern, fabric, and thread ready to start this new project once I finish the 2 projects I am working on right now. I clearly see the knee lift is a fantastic feature. When you did your demo showing the different feet that is supposed to come with the machine there were several that did not come with my machine. I ordered a Juki/4 inch foot from Primitive Gatherings for my piecing. Once I get going on the new machine I'm sure I'm going to love it! Thanks again! Roxy in Hudson, WI
@roxysherburne9027 Thank you for your comment! Great to hear from you and yes different countries sometimes supplies slightly different feet and accessories. Enjoy your new machine!
Thank you Gary for showing the step-by-step process. I am trying to decide which quilting machine to buy. I've become good quilting with my Singer Quilt Confidence machine and am looking to step my game up. The only thing I was worried about was trying to adjust tension from top or by the bobbin case - I was excited 15 years ago when the top-loading bobbins came in because I really could just drop it in and the machine fine-tuned it for me. I had an awful time when I first started to try to learn to use a sewing machine - that was 40 years ago, and I think I might be able to handle adjusting on either top or bottom now. I want a workhorse that is pretty much all metal and no digital displays. I have narrowed it down to this machine or the Brother Jazz 2, and I think you just sold me on the Juki. Have a good week, my condolences to all affected by Queen Elizabeth's passing.
I bought this machine to quilt with 2 years ago- at first, i loved it. But no longer. Two things to keep in mind- first, the needle threader is terrible. It is super finicky, and rarely works. I had to buy a separate needle threader to do it the old fashioned way. I was surprised by how poorly designed it is. I have a Baby Lock (10 years now) and that needle threader is top-notch. It never fails and is super easy. Second- the tension is a nightmare. Every new project is an hour or more trying to fix tension. New needles, different thread (it does not work well with 100 weight thread for quilting), flannel backing on a quilt- it’s awful. If you are ok with the tension issue, and don’t mind struggling with that, and your eyesight makes threading the needle do-able the old fashioned way, it is otherwise a good machine. But if I had it to do again- I’d pass.
Hi Joanne, thank you for your feedback. With the needle threader, were you trying to thread heavier weight thread with it as they are designed to be used with normal weight domestic sewing thread and not the heavier weight thread with a size 80 or 90 needle. If you are having issues with it, we can have a look at it for you and see if we can resolve the issue for you. With the tensioning issues, sorry to hear you are finding it frustrating. The tensioning system on this machine does adjusted everytime if you are using different weights of thread. We do recommend having a bobbin case set to each thread weight to make it easier to be interchangeable. As it is a manual machine, the re tensioning is a consistent thing that does need to be adjusted by the user. This is true of most straight stitch machines. If you would like to have a chat with us about the machine, we would love to help you resolve these issues.
Hello my 2010 is wonderful. I have never had an issue with tension. Can seem to get it first pop. Tiny increments. Also the needle threader works every time. One very important hint is to set the needle at the right height by touching that needle up, down button a few times. Gary mentions that in the video. Maybe you haven’t been doing this Joanne. I am very sorry you are unhappy with it. Not me. I use mine every day. I am a quilter and machine embroider. And it is one of my 6 machines.
@@dorsetboronia6744 I guess I’m the odd one out. I mostly use Aurifil 50 wt thread. The tension Can go off with the same thread on new projects. I only use the machine for quilting. The threader worked at first but now it never works. Likely I need a repair. But it is poor quality to begin with. I like the idea of a bobbin case for each thread weight. I will definitely try that. Thanks for the suggestions.
This is by far the best video I've seen on the 2010. However, you missed replacing the needle! I have searched for "change needle in Juki 2010". It brought up your site, and I learned some new stuff; add changing the needle next time, please!
Thanks for your feedback, hope you are loving your machine. Changing the needle is a matter of unscrewing the needle screw, making sure the flat of the needle is facing the back when replacing.
Great video with lots of info. Please do a video on the Juki HZL DX5. I am trying to decide between the Juki TL and the Juki HZL as a quilting machine . I know that the TL is a straight-stitch machine… sometimes it’s great to have zigzag and running zigzag (or serpentine) stitches too.I’d like to have your opinion on the reliability of the HZL machines. Thanks!
@ingfig1 Here is a link to some great videos on the DX5: ruclips.net/video/z7HX__AQO5Y/видео.html These are great machines, easy to use and has lovely stitches.
omy! sooo much great information. i thank you. ordered mine yesterday... so excited as i am quite the newbie. have been working with leather for about a year hand stitching and would like to incorporate fabric into my leather projects using a sewing machine other than my fingers... lol tyfs
sewing clothes: dont need quiltytastic stuff, just hardwearing machinery that does more than just blummin straightstitch. My parents got me a Frister+Rossmann 43 years ago and even then it did straight stitch with reverse, variable zigzag, dropped feed dogs, stretch stitch, a buttonhole, tension setting, footpedal control so you can go slow or fast, bobbin winding - amazing lighting guidance footplate. I've had it serviced and had a couple of broken belts through perishing. I haven't even had to replace the thread cutter. Metal body, metal machinery. It's been a great friend. The only things against it were, difficulty on the buttonhole to make consistent, and no free arm. Can I find anything in the market to equal it? No, I can't. Stuff has plastic parts and so much whimsy crafty stitchery quiltery doodah I Just Don't Need. Or it's about the same power and quality, but ONLY does straight stitching. And what is this about 'this kind' gives you a perfect stitch? Everyone sewing wants a perfect stitch.....
@lornas-w4661 Thank you for your feedback. We understand your attachment to your well loved and used machine. Technology has become a huge part of machines now, giving them more functionality and a true straight stitch is achieveable using a straight stitch plate on machines, depends on the machine that is purchased. A lot of bag sewers do love the straight stitch machine for its strength and durability. Hopefully you find a machine that will be suitable to you!
It is a great machine, thank you for you comment. Hopefully you are still getting to enjoy sewing! É uma ótima máquina, obrigado pelo seu comentário. Espero que você ainda esteja gostando de costurar!
Can you use the pre-threaded bobbins that’s sold, ever so conveniently, on plastic holders? I love this machine but also love having 50 bobbins are perfectly wound and ready. Love your video! ❤
What sort of thread is on the bobbins. You can use pre wounds as long as they are the same size bobbins that go with your machine. The thread quality is something to wary of as well in pre wound sewing bobbins.
These two machines do not have a stitch regulator and there is a ruler foot that can be purchased separately. For the current price on the TL-2010 and the TL-2200 please select the link: www.echidnasewing.com.au/?skw=tl
I’ve heard stitch regulators don’t necessarily work particularly on free motion quilting. Do your research before you buy. Check the yt video comparison: Sew Be It Quilts.
This was very helpful in my decision making process. However, as thick as a jeans seam is, it still doesn't represent the bulk I face when making bags/purses/wallets etc. My entry level Baby Lock machine can sew jeans but struggles with bag making. It would be nice if you were to include a demonstration using the materials; canvas, vinyl, faux leather, we use. Seam thickness and topstitching them consistently, is why I'm looking for a machine like this. Thanks so much!
@ritaadler-everett5392 - How many layers are you trying to sew through? We do recommend you trying the machine if you are able to - Are you local to any of our stores? Or we can have a chat to you over the phone if you are in Australia. Our number is 1800 000 360.
@@EchidnaClub You are so kind! I'm in the US, but find your videos so informative. The number of layers isn't the only consideration for bag making. It is also the type of materials and their thickness that can be a challenge and you have a combination of them in any given seam - especially during the final construction phase. I.e. 4 layers of vinyl + 4-6 layers of lining and pockets (can be made of quilt cotton, canvas, cork, etc) + 2 or more layers of interfacing + zipper ends. Although we try to keep interfacing (especially foam, or stiff ones) out of the seam, you still end up having to sew through them when topstitching. And bags have curves and small fiddily seams. I want a powerful machine to easily go through those layers but is also good at helping me control those seams while topstitching. Phew!
Yes that is a few layers! Maybe look at getting an industrial straight stitching machine if you have the space? They are made to sew through multiple layers.
@Kitchguy It will dull over time and it also depends on how thick the thread is that you are sewing with as to how fast this will happen. It doesn't dull it straight away, it does take a bit of time, and they are replaceable on these models.
Just now see your information on the 2010 which I have and the major trouble I’m having is that I CANNOT unscrew the plate to clean under the pressure foot 😢 please tell me how to unscrew the screws.....I’ve tried many many screw drivers....please help me.....thanks for your help
@sewwhat9387 If you can not get it to unscrew, we would recommend you take your machine to a technician and get them to sort it for you. They will be able to loosen it for you and assist you.
@joycedwyer8778 Is it in American dollars or Australian. We are an Australian company and our prices will be different. If it is the same machine, they will both weigh the same.
@paulagonzalez371 These machines are available on our website and we are based in Australia: www.echidnasewing.com.au/juki-tl-2200qvpmini-sewing-machine-quilt-virtuoso www.echidnasewing.com.au/juki-straight-stitch-quilting-machine
I've been looking for this sewing machine everywhere but I am worried about the voltage. I live in Qatar operates on a 240V supply voltage, can you please tell me what's the voltage of these machines? thanks!
@traciblack2079 How long since you have had your machine serviced? If it is new or has been recently serviced, you need to check your tension as this may be the issue or it may be a needle size problem with the thread size you are using.
Hi Nancy, if you are having trouble I would take it to a Technician. You can give us a call and we can try and help you over the phone, our number is 1800 000 360
How will this machine handle topstitching through 3mm thick faux and real leather with cardboard in between( so thickness is probably more like 5mm)? Also can you fit other attachments like fabric guide, and one that lets you stitch around curved corners? I am limited for space so definitely need a desktop version as opposed to an industrial machine on a 1200 wide table.
@motifsembroidery3790 With that thickness the machine would struggle with the density that you are sewing through. Are you in an area where you could bring in a sample to try the machine?
I was looking at the JUKI Industrial Sewing Machine DDL-5550-6 as there is one for sale near me but not sure if it can sew leather or if I can change the plate etc to accommodate theses thicknesses. I’m limited for space which is why I as looking for a ‘desktop’ model.
@motifsembroidery3790 You could always approach the seller and ask them what its capabilities would be. Unfortunately a Semi-industrial would not be able to cope with the thicknesses you are going to be sewing - totally understand the limited space problem.
@PascalNas Thank you for your enquiry - You will need to go onto our website where our current pricing is listed: www.echidnasewing.com.au/juki-tl-2200qvpmini-sewing-machine-quilt-virtuoso www.echidnasewing.com.au/juki-straight-stitch-quilting-machine

(Some people move their hands so excessively when they are talking that you just wish their hands were handcuffed under the table.) But this guy is a good teacher. (A lot of people can’t explain their way how to pour piss out of a boot.$
@sewbizgirl Are you in Australia? If you are we are happy to help you over the phone or you can come in store if you are in Brisbane, Melbourne or on the Sunshine Coast. We also have agents around Australia that could also help. One thing to note with the 2010 is you need to set your bobbin tension first and then adjust the top tension. I would tighten the top tension up until you can see the bobbin thread and then back off the top tension till it is more balanced. The turns on the tension dial are quite big as in a full turn to make any difference.

Other juki TL RUclipsrs say not to use the automatic thread cutter on T70 thread because it will dull the blade.
What’s the difference between the two?
@Fattiapples The difference is the TL-2200 comes with 4 extra feet and has a blue colour on the front.
Is the one on Amazon a lighter weight machine. It is a lot cheaper there.
@joycedwyer8778 Is it in American dollars or Australian. We are an Australian company and our prices will be different.
If it is the same machine, they will both weigh the same.
Where and How much it the juki sewing machine is?
@paulagonzalez371 These machines are available on our website and we are based in Australia:

I've been looking for this sewing machine everywhere but I am worried about the voltage. I live in Qatar operates on a 240V supply voltage, can you please tell me what's the voltage of these machines? thanks!
We use 240V in Australia but we can not supply these machines overseas.
@@EchidnaClub I’m planning on visiting Australia this summer! I just wanted to know if you sell these machines with a 240v
Awesome :)
What cause my tl2000qi to not pick up my bobbin threads if you may answer
@traciblack2079 How long since you have had your machine serviced? If it is new or has been recently serviced, you need to check your tension as this may be the issue or it may be a needle size problem with the thread size you are using.
I cannot adjust the pressure foot pressure, the knob on the top will not turn even though I have the pressure foot down, what am I doing wrong?
Hi Nancy, if you are having trouble I would take it to a Technician. You can give us a call and we can try and help you over the phone, our number is 1800 000 360
Can you give us some more information Nancy?
How will this machine handle topstitching through 3mm thick faux and real leather with cardboard in between( so thickness is probably more like 5mm)? Also can you fit other attachments like fabric guide, and one that lets you stitch around curved corners? I am limited for space so definitely need a desktop version as opposed to an industrial machine on a 1200 wide table.
@motifsembroidery3790 With that thickness the machine would struggle with the density that you are sewing through. Are you in an area where you could bring in a sample to try the machine?
@@EchidnaClub I’m just outside of Canberra
@motifsemboidery3790 That thickness really make the machine work. You would be better off looking at an industrial for those thicknesses.
Can it sew vinyl?
@idacarrasquillo4028 Yes it can sew vinyl dependant on the layers you are sewing. These are great machines that are used in a lot of bag making.
what about the TL18 qvp
@WKazzey That machine is not available in Australia but the equivalent is the 2200QVPMini.
J’voudrais savoir prix cet machines

(Some people move their hands so excessively when they are talking that you just wish their hands were handcuffed under the table.)
But this guy is a good teacher. (A lot of people can’t explain their way how to pour piss out of a boot.$
Thank you @jaywinter2483 for your feedback!
What oil do you use for this machine?
You don't oil the machine, this is done through your regular service :)
They suggest oiling the machine after 4 hours of sewing. The manual shows all the places to oil and clean. Tri flow oil is recommended.
I must have got a lemon. My Juki 2010Q has given me constant tension problems.
I have a simple Brother sewing machine that has a needle threader. I never use it bc it is complicated. That looks complicated on this one too.😂
@kimberlyprice4803 It is a matter of getting used to the technique to get it to work. Just a little practice and you will get it!
Don't buy from Sewingmachinesplus in Encidido Ca. Customer service is rude if you have a problem.
@mellinaowens3804 sorry if you have had a bad experience.
