Okay so I made it through your composite tutorial, and now I need to make a shadow like this for my model which is a plank of wood leaning against the wall. Should I have done this before making all my layers in the composite to a smart object?
The Split checkbox is PS 2020 only right? Can't find it on my
2019 version.

Are you referring to the Smart Guides? They're in the CC versions of Ps. You can enable them under the View menu.

Right-click the ellipsis (…) icon in the toolbar to open the window. Hold the Shift key and click Done. You now have a banana. And if you want to reset it, repeat but hold Ctrl and click Done.
