- I got an original Xbox with a 500gb hard drive and I can finally do 480p and 720p. I can't believe how good some of the games look and I can't wait to play it more!
What games do you think I should play?

I bought the original Xbox with Halo when it launched here in Canada in 2001
Good times! I bought the component cables made a difference for pic quality on my 480p 32” TV (not flat screen) also had an awesome 5.1 YAMAHA surround system the audio was incredible
Halo 1 and 2, Splinter Cell and SC: Pandora Tomorrow, PGR, Chronicles of Riddick, Shenmue2 and Psychonauts my best memories I still have all those games haha and most are BC on my 360
It lasted about 5 years then died on me, wasn’t the most trusty hardware I had the disc drive replaced once and it wouldn’t always read the games

I've tried quite a few different external HDMI solutions for the Xbox, I didn't actually opt for a modded one, but decided to give Retro Tink 4K a whirl. Possibly the most expensive whirl I've ever whirled

DEFINITELY check out Doom 3 on this thing. Doom 3 is the reason I wanted an original Xbox.

I have the exact same switches on the bottom of my xbox. The banks are for running different firmwares I believe, you can 'flash' 1 on each. the 'HD' light indicates when the hard drive is being accessed/loaded from. The 'Flash Protect' is a failsafe to prevent the banks from being overwritten. The 'Lan' light shows if internet/LAN traffic is being transmitted to/from the xbox. The 'Chip Enable' is to turn on/off the mod chip altogether. this is to revert the console back to stock.

Bank 1 & 2 is probably because it supports two different firmwares in the modchip (or the DVD drive firmware?). Flash protect in the ON position write-protects the flash so you can't flash a new firmware over the old one.
I hard modded my xbox. But now I can't connect to insignia to play Halo 2 online. It might have an xbox live blocker file in the mod. But I also have it to play the first Buffy the vampire slayer game.😀
bank 1 and bank 2 are two diff places firmware (bios) can exist on that chip, flash protect makes the chip unwritable, the things that go wrong in these systems are old capacitors and specifically the clock capacitor as well as the hard disk, enjoy !
I recently hard modded my childhood Xbox from 2002. I just use component cables and it looks great at 1080i on my 60 inch SHARP quattron TV. Love it so much
Insignia is awesome and really easy to set up, definitely consider it!

I've got a crystal Xbox that's hard modded and has a 5tb SSD that's connected via a star ide to SSD adapter. The hard mod chip has 2 banks of flash memory so you can have 2 different types of firmware installed which lets you switch between each one but not while the machine is turned on as some firmware has better compatibility with some backed up games and also allows you to install larger hard drives.
You have a modchip in there. Bank 1 & 2 slider lets you select between multiple installed BIOSes (seems like this chip can hold 2 of them, in addition to the one built into the Xbox, which can also separately be flashed). Nowadays this stuff is done in software, but you seem to have an older (not worse, just older) one from back in the days of making sure you didn't get your Xbox console banned from Xbox Live (hence the On/Off switch).
The lack of resolution options on the PAL console is just pure laziness from Microshaft. European mid range consumer tvs were a lot better than the 4:3 composite/S-video boxes Americans had at the time. They were widescreen, higher resolution, supported progressive scan, and they all had RGB sockets. America didn't sadly have any tv standards so manufacturers did the bare minimum, and consumers didn't get anything cool before HDTV was a thing.
Gotta try playing wreckless, crimson skies, blood wake , and the original far cry on xbox was a blast as well, almost forgot jet set radio future!
Dude I still game on original Xbox. It’s an awesome system with a ton of games to play. I’m currently playing 007 Agent Under Fire.
Brute Force is a Classic. Definitely check out Fallout BoS, all of the Splinter Cell games, Silent Hill 4, Ghost Recon, any of the SEGA games

Bank 1 and 2 are most likely backups for the bios, so you dont flash to stock one and kill it.
One Xbox game I wish I had is Riddick. Going a bit off topic here, I recommend Shadow of Rome on PS2.
I recommend ninja gaiden black, its also backwards compat with Series X.

I soft-modded my OG Xbox to play those. You can find some fan translations on the web for the Thousand Land game.
Otherwise the usual stuff: PGR, Ninja Gaiden, JSRF, Munch Odyssey, DOA, etc. All the good stuff that the current industry lacks and that is never going to be replicated.

I would always choose Xbox version over ps2 back in the day because they looked and performed better on that system

The best external hdmi right now is xbox2hdmi but I'm not sure if that's available right now might need to pre-order it because they just revised it
Make sure clock capacitor is removed in both your og Xbox’s otherwise you have a ticking time bomb which will die eventually… if left too long damage from leaking cap will totally destroy your og Xbox motherboard beyond repair

Its been a while now, but im pretty shure that if you Just get the component cable for your og xbox, you wil be able to display the 480p 720p and Even 1080i. Even whitout moding it 😊

Hmm. Perhaps.. I belive you can change it to ntsc, and have it enabled. And since most TVs these days do both, it should be fine.
But like i said, its been a while 😂😊 and im not able to hook one of mine unmoded once UP and try Anny time soon either 😪
If your xbox drive sticks replace the rubber in the front of the tray, I love the xbox it’s my favorite console of all time it started everything a latest console dose
Probably a stupid question, but what do you need a memory card for? Wouldn't you just use the hard drive to save?

I know the Xbox 360 was backwards compatible but I don't know if it is the every single Xbox original games for it or just some off the games work and don't work
Some don't work. There's a list of the ones that do and anything else just doesn't play.

Play the Punisher game. Evil Dead Fistful of Boomstick is better than Regeneration. Also the best version of the first Onimusha came out on this system. Genmu Onimusha
