I never bought a PS5. With all the industry bs with this gen I wont be buying one either. Ive gone back to my older consoles and I also couldnt be happier. The games are better. The community is better. It's everything it used to be and more now. Keep at it.
I agree, I bought everything this gen, though. I think this will be the last one that I do this unless things take a change, which I seriously doubt that it will. I did, however, find and fix a lot of the consoles I had as a kid and, some that I always wanted to have back then; modded them and felt the same as you say. I was even more surprised that you can play some of those consoles, like the original xbox, online, like back in the day, but today in 2024. After trying all that out, all I was thinking was how much of a waste this new gen feels in comparison in terms of overall quality/content per game compared to those old games. There are even some other things in their designs that I really can not truly understand, but I do know that they feel different, and not all of it is nostalgia.
I have been out of gaming since the Xbox One. Even then I felt the demise of gaming on consoles. All of the fun has been stripped. This year I modded a Phat PS2 and an OG XBox to use 1TB SSD HDD's, and I couldn't be happier. I also built a GBS-C to scale to HDMI and work on modern TV's. As we speak, GTA III is being played. I haven't been happier and love having these on display. FYI, I was 21 in 2001, and that was peak gaming! What a time to be alive. I am glad I can still feel it now.
yeah I thought no one would be talking about 360 and ps3 game collecting tbh, it's so weird to see because when I was 11-12 years old, "Retro" was considered to be the NES/SNES and all those old sega systems but now 360 and PS3 are joining that circle.
This is what is so funny in 2024. I have worked hard on my games room. Dual LG Ultragear monitors 4K LG Oled C2 My PS5, my day one Series X (which i use solely for online shooters), my newer Series X which at the time was the same price as buying the official storage, so i use the newer Series X for big campaign/story driven games, my Series S that i use for all smaller titles and my gaming PC for Steam/GOG and PC exclusives. I spent all that money to play games and have them looking the best they can...... And don't get me wrong, there has been some epic new games. But what have i done this year mainly? Been playing Alien Breed 1,2 &3, playing through the Alone in the Dark series from the very first. Playing Half Life 1 and 2 and playing through the original Delta Force 1 and 2 campaigns..... All those games are on Steam or GOG. On my PS5, i am replaying Syphon Filter and on my Series X, i am playing the remastered versions of Tomb Raider. It just shows, that nostalgia is strong, but also it is the quality of the games! I have games i can readily play, today in 4K 60 or higher... That are very good games. But instead i am choosing too play games made in the 90's and early 00's that aren't anywhere near 4K visuals and FR doesn't even come in too it, yet i am having a great time. I think game developers really need to rethink the direction they BELIEVE gamer's want too what we actually really DO want.
When the "new" consoles came out in 2020, I went retro myself. I just needed the confirmation these new consoles would be terrible. These are the ones I picked: Softmodded Original Xbox with 2TB internal for 6th gen multiplats, Xbox exclusives. 477 games. RGH Xbox 360 with 1TB internal for 7th gen multiplats and 360 exclusives. 135 games. CFW PS3 with 1TB internal for PS2/PS3 exclusives and PS2 remasters like the Jak collection. 45 PS3 games, 74 PS2 games and 2 PS1 games. CFW PS Vita with 128GB SD Card internal for PS1, PSP and Vita games. 32 Vita games, 15 PSP games and 40 PS1 games. Total: 820. I still have room for more but at that point it would just be shovelware or stuff I will never touch. Both the Vita and PS3 with CFW are great for PS1 games. Also, all PS2 games I tried on PS3 worked and appear to be perfect but some have minor issues you can't fix even with config files though even those are still fully playable and enjoyable. Other than that, every game works flawlessly and they're all inside the internal storage devices. Load times for OG Xbox games especially are ridiculously fast. Seeing Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex load levels in just 5 seconds is something I never thought possible.
I got my original xbox connected to insignia since september 23 and i had such an amazing time with it allready, whenever i get an online multiplayer itch it scratches it perfectly, Truly recommend it to get everything out of the console
More people need to know this, I am heavy into all these things and can't believe I just found out about this last week. I can asure you more people would love to join but have no idea this exists, especially now with all these crazy markups on the online subscription prices.
One game I deeply regret never playing when I had the PS3 was Killzone 2. That game was a friggin' masterpiece. Deserved far more attention than it got when looking at first person shooters back then and today. If I could go back in time and choose any game I would play with that console, that would be it no question.
Hey there! 😀 I enjoy the older systems and games much better as well! Back in the day, I had a lot of fun on my PS 2 with games like Socom Navy Seals, Max Payne, and Burnout Revenge. On my Xbox 360, I loved the Farcry games (Predator is a good one not often mentioned), Sniper Ghost Warrior, and the Splinter Cell games (I loved Blacklist).
I have XSX and PS5. They are both cool. The games on PS1/2/3 and X box 360/OG are just AWESOME. Playing Killzone 3, the soul blade/calibur series, gran turismo, and Forza are still excellent
I played through all of the Obi Wan game on my modded OG xbox a few months ago. I will say the controls are a little weird at first but stick with it and by the time you get to the third or fourth level, you'll be well adjusted to it. It's still janky and there's obviously better SW games out there but it's an intriguing game and the ending features a funny monologue from Obi-Wan himself that is worth waiting to hear lol
I skipped PS4/5 same with xbox and stuck with my pc for modern games. I have been playing a lot of the older consoles and just finding more and more great games i never knew existed.
I haven’t bought anything new for years, just playing retro and games from a few years ago. Vandal Harts is a really good turn based game on the PS1, Arc the lad too a really good rpg, also Jade Cacoon is really good too.
I recommend command and conquer red alert on ps1. I know its kind of a comprimise playing it with a controller instead of a mouse but I just bought it and its still really fun! Such nostalgia for me 😊
I enjoyed playing Pandora Tomorrow. Granted, it wasn't as good as the sequel Chaos Theory, but it was such a fun experience; with how Splinter Cell was back in those days. Shame it all went downhill around the time of Conviction and Blacklist. I believe there hasn't been one made since then. Would be nice if Ubisoft made more of an effort to bring it back in future, but knowing them, I highly doubt it.
Devil dice is a pretty fun game on the ps1. I own every game considered retro too. It’s called emulation and I don’t have a problem with playing games you can’t afford right now. When I get the money to buy the actual game I will but I’m not going to deprive myself from playing a game just cause I can’t afford it or can’t find it for a decent price. lol.
Don't neglect Alice Madness Returns, it's in my top 20 games of all time so play it. You must play the Killzone trilogy, buy the first PS 2 HD version of killzone on the ps3 store before it closes, it plays beautifully on ps3 and looks great. Killzone 2&3 are fantastic as well. One more thing you should try out and that's the playstation move games. They are so much fun and are great to play. I have sold so much of my retro gaming stuff that I've built up over 35 years and regretted it to this day.
I have a small PlayStation 2 console too, it’s very powerful, and very small to deal with, just keep in mind that it does scratch discs, just go to a game store, and they can run it through the scratch remover, and if you get a memory card jack, it can hold up to 4 more memory cards!🙂
I really relate to this feeling. My Xbox One is the console I most frequently play, but most of the games I am playing are backwards compatible for the 360 or original Xbox or came out a while ago. I remember when they were announcing the next gen of Xbox after the One there was talk of removing the disk drive and I think I tuned out after that since I didn’t want to lose access to all the 360 disks I was using to play older games. Flash forward to now and I’m more interested in indie games I find through game pass or PS2 games I run though emulators than whatever big title is coming out soon. There are so many really cool and unique games out there for older consoles, it’s a ton of fun to explore the libraries that already exist
16 Bit was in my childhood - this was really the era where we could play arcade games at home. After that the Dreamcast then Xbox original. Now I still play Xbox 360 RGH. I think I'll try PS5 next.
Please don’t stop the comedic videos love them. Love these serious ones as well. Are you planning on streaming? Maybe demo discs or something of your favourite games.
Being an owner of a Series X and a PS5, I can safely say that you’re not missing anything. This current generation of gaming absolutely sucks to be honest and I have much happier memories of gaming on my PS2 and Xbox 360 as there was way less BS than there is in gaming today.
I play a lot of retro but you nostalgic crack heads are crazy. Dragons Dogma 2? Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty? Maybe Alan Wake 2 is a bit Alan Woke but not a bad game. Starfield keeps improving, soon even vehicles in that game. But I guess for you nostalgic people even Doom The Dark Ages looks bad. Gears of War E-DAY? FF16? Yeah this generation is sooo bad. Who needs to play STALKER 2 or Metro 4 when we can just play Area 51 on PS2 right? Lol
@@ResidentNotEvil5 I really need to get round to completing Resident Evil 3. I've never really played it properly aside from recording some footage with it!
It's funny you mentioned Star wars Obi-Wan as that was one of the first games I got with my Xbox in 2003 along with halo CE I later sold the console when games to buy a PlayStation 2 due to the fact of the Xbox not having the games that I wanted when it came to JRPGs And the wrestling titles :)
great video, I love retro games, I buy the stuff I grew up on as I'm a gen X er, still have my PS3 super slim I bought new, glad I entered late and got the best model, and that's my most modern system still, great stuff, just now really using it as a video game system more, usually as a blue ray player.
I can see why someone would say the PS1 is their favorite console. There are a plethora of great games in just about every genre on that thing. I bought a PS5 last Christmas and I totally regret it. The games I was looking forward to playing were all letdowns. The only reason I keep it around is to play my back catalog of PS4 games. Lately I've playing sports and racing games on PS2 and GameCube. Been having a good time doing that. The Indie scene on PC is pretty good too.

I found that hard to believe as it was fine last November and that it stopped working because I missed an update.
