Scores are just reference points. They should never replace information or opinion. Even then, review opinions are subjective - it's up to the reviewer to give you a sense of their preferences. To those that seem to be suggesting the PS4's 8.2 vs. X1's 7.8, well, think about this: You're talking about the difference between having $10.40 and $10. Ever tip someone 40 cents? I'm a console gamer first, so I'm really loving both consoles. But there's work to do if either PS4 or Xbox One wants to be a masterful product.
I think that the xbox one needs to stop focusing on the fact that it does many things over the Internet ( Like netflix, youtube , ect, ) and focus more on the games for the console ( basically the opposite of the wii u delema ) they know they have competition on with the ps4 but basically making it a PC doesn't help them much nowadays. I admit, I was impressed at E3 a couple years ago at what it could do. But I think they took it a little too far. I give it a 6.5/10 But that's my opinion.
I agree. I like the ps4 a lot cause of its exclusives and the upcoming final fantasy 7 remake along with no mans land I am excited on getting the ps4. It is also a really good blu ray player since I use my ps3 for watching movies.

JoshuaMacGamer It's not that the PS4 is faded, it's that the Xbox One's scaler isn't very good. It tries to compensate by over saturating the colours. That's why a lot of Xbox games have crushed blacks. The PS4 version is how the game was intended to look.
I put the Wii U ahead of the Xbox One because I am a big fan of Nintendo, bigger than I am of Microsoft. I grew up with Sony and Nintendo, and I always liked Nintendo more, but the PS4 is way ahead of the Wii U overall as a console, but I still love the Wii U, I could care less about the Xbox One.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the Xbox One, I think it's a great console despite it's hardware issues, but I'm just not that interested in it, I'll stick with my Xbox 360 for now and the only next gen consoles I'm focusing on are the PS4 and Wii U.

I laugh when they say xbox one is a gaming console first. I have an xbox one, so far it has been pushed mostly on tv and a ways to socialize with friends. Xbox one should not fall in the category of a gaming console, instead it should be just an entertainment system. Gaming is not the only focus Microsoft has, so we should not expect the support we had on xbox360.
They gave the X-Box One a much higher review than deserved, and people still complain? Get over it. Either way, the console is a waste of money. Just get a cellphone, or a tablet if you want those features, and if you want gaming, get a PS4 or a PS3 or a PS2 or a PS1. Because each of these put the X-Box One to shame. Well if you want those features in one. You get the gaming and those tablet features in ONE. Xbone 500$=Ps4 400$+let say for example Ipad 400$. So do you pay 500$ or 800$ for almost the same experience? I'm haven't decided which one i buy yet.
Ign gave ps4 higher score because they recognise that it's about the games and power. All the other xboner reviews based their reviews on non gaming on a ((games)) console.
If you actually watched and listened to the reviews, you would know that they gave Xbox one a lower score because some of the new entertainment integration slows it down.

I find it odd on how you say the PS4 isn't that much different compared to the PS3 while most people would strongly disagree with that, but you would easily have more people saying that the Xbox 1 is very similar to the 360.

More games on the XOX hit 2160p than on PS4 Pro, more games run at a stable 60fps, more games load faster on OneX than Pro. Plus some games don’t even hit 1440p on PS4 Pro. There are a handful of games that still run at 1080p or lower.

Trollovon Flidder I've haven't seen anyone say it's because of what Microsoft said. I've seen many people say "Spybot" and things like that, but nothing about a statement Microsoft made. Considering that Microsoft is trying to assuage fears over Kinect privacy invasion, I doubt they'd say that. Do you have a link to an article that says that?
I said it on the PS4 review and I'll say it again, reviewing a console is silly. Things are going to be so different a year or two from now and that's when the vast majority plan on purchasing one.

This is a very True review, and the guy is right, we have to give some time into the Xbox One and PS4. When I got a Xbox 360, which was the year when it came out, most of the games I did not like, actually, I never really started playing online until 2009 when I was playing COD 4 and Halo 3. And the Xbox One's launch titles are one of the best we have seen, and shows a good example of the gaming. So we are expecting to see a lot of improvements and much better games in 2014-2015
Both this and Rev 3's review is curiously high quality. I mean, the pan around 3D shots of the console? That's leagues beyond the usual quality reviews and feels more like advertisement work.... It's weird
I think they're just high quality because it's a review for a console, which is much more significant than a video game. Doesn't really feel like advertisement to me, just more attention to detail.
Tbh its not hard to do, you need a camera, a table and either a green screen or a white background n then touch it up in editing software. Not exactly blowing the doors of anyone's budget... Plus they've had it for ages now so they've had the time to do it. And as the others say its an important review so they'll spend more time on it and they might have just asked for the shots. Don't know why something being done well means they've been bought by Microsoft.
I got a Xbox One because Microsoft were willing to go into territory no other companies would. I don't care about the PS4 or PC, one is because I don't have the cash to be swapping up graphics cards, two I want to do more then just play games. I want a "Complete" experience, with games and media. Given time, the Xbox One will ultimately be 1st. It has features that keep people coming back.

The Xbox One may have some impressive features and greatly improved from it's predecessor, those features does not justify buying a $500 console that is inferior to the PS4, and almost all of it's features are completely nullified if you don't have Xbox Live Gold. I just don't understand that mentality. If Sony is offering a cheaper system that is more gamer-centric and more powerful than the Xbox One, why sell yourself short on a great opportunity? Everyone knows Sony offers more unique exclusives and PS+ destroys Games with Gold easily. I used to be a Microsoft fanboy until this gen. I'm not throwing money down the drain on a more expensive console that's not geared towards the games. This is just my opinion.

I fully disagree with this reviewer. I do not believe forcing the Kinect on gamers is a good thing considering most hardcore gamers want nothing to do with it, yet are forced to pay an extra 100$ for it. Additionally, we do not care about all these multimedia features which we will probably never use if they will not improve our gameplay experience. I am a hardcore gamer. I want incredible games with innovation, improved graphical fidelity, great controls, an awesome singe-player and multiplayer mode, and a social network centered around my fellow gamers and I so we can connect and play games together effortlessly. It seems that Nintendo, Sony, and definently Microsoft are using their time and money trying to include applications and and services that are usless to gamers. Also, they are taking away our right to privacy, and they are releasing games year after year while milking our money as much as they can. Is a modern gaming focused console hard to ask for? This is why the Atari, Sega, Nintendo, and original Playstation days will always be the best years of gaming.

I got a PS4 but I think XBONE is awesome too. I prefer PS because of its exclusive and I'm more familiar with it. And let's be honest, I'm biased with sony. But I cannot hide the fact that XBONE is gorgeous in terms of UI and the controller is god damn amazing. I would like to try it too if I have a chance. One cannot go wrong with these two consoles. Both of them has their own pros and cons.
I've been using an PS2 and it is better than the Xbox 360 , though I like them both. And one odd thing that happened that was that my xbox crapped oil.
its true 3rd party games will look better on the. i felt the xb1 contoller hard to reach triggers the ps4 controller is more inavated touchpad improved tiggers speaker. looks like they really switched around 3rd party games looks better on 360 then ps3 .but i have both system and i love them both
IGN gets to live another day. XD Honestly speaking, I don't believe IGN gave the xbone a lower score than the PS4 because they only because believed the PS4 was better. If they gave it a better score than the PS4 a lot of people would hate and attack IGN. No surprise they gave GTA V a 10 either.
Its dumb to give a console a rating less than a month after release you have to wait like a year to let the console show its potitntal and even then it will imprve with time.
If you want a proper gaming console which is cheaper, gives you 1080p games, more powerful, and gives you free games to download every month then go for PS4, If you want a Cable Box go for Xbox One.
I've watched both the PS4 and Xbox One review's but despite the price I like the Xbox One better but I have been a PS fan since i was 7 or 6. But I just don't like the PS4 that much Sorry PS fan's I also do like the PS3 still and the Xbox 360 but the Xbox One is the best Console I ever had despite the rang of games for now. :)

Less than 1% of PS4's are failing and that's most due to output issues. Compared to the Xbox One bricking MUCH more and the broken disc drive I'd say Sony is doing pretty good. I'm not saying it's a bad console by any means. Of course it's less powerful than the PS4 but that's besides the point. All I'm saying is how can they still have a power brick AND still be larger than the PS4 along with being less powerful. Doesn't make sense.

TodaysTEN Xbox one bricking up ? I have not seen one video that shows the Xbox one overheating/ bricking up .. All i've seen is the Blu-ray disk drive problem which can easily be fixed .
Brian ruiz I just read a few articles that described it. And the drive can't easily be fixed by the user so either way you have to send it back to Microsoft or Sony. Doesn't really matter what the problem is. You still have to send it back. So it's a matter of which has the higher failure rate.
PS4 is cheaper, faster, better looking, PlayStation Plus is cheaper than Xbox live, gives you free games every month, and won't the hard drive of the Xbox get full really have because each game is like 40gb and this Xbox One is supposed to last me 10 years, I don't think so. I pick Sony and so should you.

Don't get me wrong as a pure gaming machine the PS4 will always be better even if at Times marginally so than the one, at no point has the one ever directly attempted to directly compete with the ps4 in the gaming aspect, all I'm saying is that Microsoft is aiming to be an accomplished all rounder, a middle ground if you will between the Wii U and the PS4, I am a Wii U owner myself and I have been considering the one simply because of the added features, ultimately I decided I am too much of a Nintendo fan to move away just yet and I wish to give both systems some time to let it play out, that being said I think that the one has a much better chance against the ps4 than it's predecessor ever did against the Ps3, not because of specs or anything but just out of pure extras.

Its main focus is media man not gaming. It has crappy games now, (not that PS4 are great) and I don't see Microsoft getting better in that department either. Sony though, you know they will deliver when it comes to games. And same with PC.
the whole point of a games console is to be for gamers, this is not it. Using the voice command option is lazy and will ware out quickly. Microsoft make it seem like it is more for tv than gaming since its easy for me to switch anyway to tv. The xbox one is worse than ps4 because unlike microsoft, sony treat you like a gamer and not a easy way to make money. That is my review :)

Day3Gaming The kinect really grows on you. When I bought a Xbox and ps4 back in November, I thought I would never use the kinect but like I said it grows on you and makes multitasking easy. When I play my ps4,360 or ps3 I forget that I can't just say "go to " whatever I want. Also how is the Xbox one focused on TV? It has 1 TV feature. Finally I was on psn when it got hacked and was down for over 2 weeks....

Day3Gaming exactly it is a game console. Microsoft wrongd the Xbox one by offering it as an entertainment console, it is one but a lot of people won't use the other features. The reason I use kinect is because it makes multitasking so much easier. If I'm playing an RPG and get stuck I can just say "Xbox search game guide" or if I want to record gameplay I just say record that. It actually becomes helpful. The TV thing is a nice feature when you think about how much stuff comes on all systems like Netflix, Hulu,RUclips, amazon video, etc. Why not do TV now? Saying Xbox off is as lazy as turning off your console via wireless controller, which we have had for the last 2 generations. Have you tried playing an Xbox one? I don't mean going to GameStop but going to someone's house and sitting down with it. That's what convinced me to get one after I had already bought my ps4. PS: I only use TV during load screens and downloading, a lot of people don't even use the feature.

xbox one kills ps4 game wise...and the tv feature is sufficient but still has flaws...iv'e been playing way more on my xbox one because its hooked up to the cable and i can snap or go right back to my game...i love my ps4 but as of right now the playstation experience is lackluster
To me ps4s os is hands down the fastest and simplest menu interface on any console. Everything fast to reach and easy to navigate. And it has so much space to grow. U all say xbox has more potencial and is gonna grow more. But what u call growth is fixing kinect and tryin to get the menu to where ps4 already has it now. Ps4 already has a near perfect setup so they dont have waste time before expanding their features. Both consoles were rushed and r missin stuff but its obvious sony focoused on gaming first.

MS completely misread the market when they introduced the Kinect for the 360, in answer to Nintendo's gimmicky controller. People just weren't interested in buying into Kinect and very few games actually supported it. For me the only true application for Kinect is in keep fit training video's, where it worked well enough for Nintendo and it's casual user and kids support clientele. Now the XBomb costs much more than PS4 due to the NO CHOICE bundling of Kinect, which few people actually want and fewer still people will actually use after the first week, when it will be left in a cupboard. To make matters even worse, the new Kinect doesn't work as well as MS claimed it would on release. So those customers who might have been willing to be impressed with it, will have abandoned it forever before any future upgrade software is released for it and won't bother, UNLESS they are absolutely forced to drag it out and upgrade it by some future patches. I expect that to happen and would find it a major annoyance.
:LMAOOO, I have the XB1 and Kinect is not a waste, the whole UI was designed around Kinect. It makes everything easier. Mine works no problem. Full 1080p camera is really nice on Skype. My Sony friends are impressed with it and were having fun controlling the XBOX itself and using in game commands in BF4 with it. Sony is competing with MS but MS is competing with Sony & Apple, among many other companies. They aren't gonna limit their console to just gaming. See there is the beautiful thing, you don't like the XBOX then buy the PS4. No need to bash the XBOX b/c you don't like what they did
DO NOT base your decision on hardware differences. The PS4 isn't that much stronger than the XBox One. We'll know more later, but the best graphics of launch titles is actually an Xbox One exclusive (Ryse kills the competition). The Xbox One's setup is lower latency and faster speed, whereas the PS4 is all about big bandwidth, and if games go in the direction I think they're going (more approximated ray-tracing, less rasterization), then low latency is going to be much more important than high bandwidth. Future graphics algorithms aside, the machines are still "very close" according to John Carmack (if you don't know who that is, you should look him up. He's one of the biggest innovators in graphics algorithms in the industry). I'm going to tell you why the machines are very close. 8 GB of GDDR5 memory sounds amazing but GDDR5 memory is dual socketed RAM, it's meant to make loading textures faster, and by nature of dual-socketed RAM, the size of the space available has logarithmic payouts (the more you have the less it improves). The PS4's CPU has to use the RAM for it's processing too, so it causes more processor overhead (wasted processing time) than the XBox One's setup, which sacrificed stream processors for embedded SRAM which runs simultaneously with it's native DDR3 RAM. That plus the built-in move engines not only means less latency but also less CPU burst and wasted processing time. "Oh but the PS4 has 50% more stream processes!" If you've ever said this than you're a PC gamer and you only care about your spreadsheets and not what's actually happening inside the rig. The way stream processes help improve graphics is by increasing the number of threads (more parallel processing) the processor can run, but the payout is logarithmic. Microsoft, being a software company and understanding the underlying computer science, decided to trim off the extra stream processes and boost the GPU in other areas that are more impactful. "But PS4 games are being rendered at a higher native resolution!" That's because the XBox One uses 10% less of it's total processing power on the game than the PS4 and reserves it for the operating system (windows 8 and multi-tasking and such). The developers dealt with it by just lowering the native rendering resolution. Some gripe about it, but I personally can't tell the difference. In the end, the differences between the machine's specs are miniscule in comparison to the impact the quality of the dev-kits and the robustness of the OS will have. A 10%-20% difference in chip power pails in comparison to the difference a well-written program makes. But no one is talking about that, everyone is caught up in the spreadsheets. As much as it might pain you, we simply won't know until a year or two down the road which one has a superior dev-kit and drivers. Maybe that's why so many are griping about chip differences, since that's the only thing we know right now and everyone wants to know everything right now. So I'm saying all this so that you don't fool yourself by purchasing one over another because you think one box is superior over the other based on hardware alone. The hardware between these two is actually closer than it was last gen. You should be concerned much more about other things such as exclusives, total experience, friends, and so on.
I am getting the PS4 because I have been playing playstation since the first one was made. Before that it was the nes, snes and n64. Then sony got a hold of me with their playstation. I got a high end gaming pc but I am so excited to get my PS4, mainly because of the exclusives and all my friends having one. I get what you are saying, to many people simply just want to piss people off by saying which one is better. I just enjoy gaming in general. I bought the xbox 360 last year and have enjoyed the exclusives it had to offer. But I am excited to get back on a brand new playstation entertainment system. You got lots of great points by the way. Mita Baker Not really... the main concern when it comes to PCs is "Did I buy a decent enough gaming rig and will it be enough for me for the next couple of years?" I bought a $1000 PC.. sadly enough it is an overpriced, underpowered piece of hardware just barely surpasses a PS3 in power. I should've instead built my own for even less money and even more power. As far as upgrading it goes.. your driver manufacturer should be releasing constant updates to bring more potential to your system for free..don't know where you got the $200 part from unless you really expect people to keep buying graphics cards each and every year.
Don't compare Xbox One to PS4, Compare Xbox One to Xbox 360, that's is after all what they based the console off and went from there, they didn't say ok sony whats your console going to look like, whats its specs, ok thanks we will make this console like this now. No they went from what made the xbox 360 great and improved and add, it may not be perfect just yet but with future patches or even new versions of the console down the road we might end up with something even better, iron out all the bugs and polish off the UI you already end up with something almost every game wants, I do wish they went with more of the windows 8 feel where I could customise the design to my liking but none the less this is still a nice looking console and im happy with my day one purchase of it, later down the line I might buy a ps4 or upgrade to a new version of the xbox one, depending on what happens which right now no one can say.

There is no escaping it plus Sony initially wanted to ship the PlayStation 4 with PS Eye, and a $500 price tag. But after they found out that Microsoft was doing something similar, they opted for a lower price and no PS Eye. They also had a similar DRM policy but quietly changed it before revealing it at E3.
I've been a Sony gamer all my life and need thought of getting an Xbox, but this time I was a little more open minded and decided to try out both. My friend has both and honestly I found the Xbox one to be a more enjoyable experience, it's not only a gaming console but also an entertainment system, ps4 is strictly gaming and the visuals are hardly better than the XB1, and the XB1 exclusives look great. Ps4 is a great system too, I can't say it sucks and I don't think anyone can, but to say the Xbox sucks is also just as stupid. Both are great consoles, I just went with the XB1 because I personally feel it's a funner system. Though more than likely ill get a ps4 later on down the road.
Finally a guy who isn't bashing xb1 or ps4 and isn't biased. I prefer my ps4 and I own both but XB1 is amazing and fellow Sony users just stop it your making us look like assholes you don't go on videos and bash things you don't own.
Playstation started off well with the ps1 and ps2 easily beating original xbox ps3 wasnt so great 360 won last generation this generation ps4 is the obvious choice for a gamer more power better graphics better and more exclusives huge improvement in controller can actually use for shooters now and just focuses on gaming unlike the kinect reserving 10% of the xbones rams. How am i a fanboy? I was on xbox 360 last gen i simply choose the better system. At you acknowledge that the ps4 is better theres a lot of xbox fanboys who refuse to accept that fact. Xbox is a decent system only ps4 is better. I respect your opinion though.
Now it only really depends on the games. If the PS4 games look better than the Xbox One's - get that, but if you prefer the Xbox One games - get that.Although the PS4, at the moment, doesn't have many exclusives announced that have a release date and so could be over a year away. Maybe leave it until after E3, if you're not sure. But I would say that most of the problems, that they mention in this review, have been resolved.
Xbox One is also a driving simulator... "xbox snap tv" *lose control of vehicle*... what did we just learn? dont watch TV while driving a vehicle.... trust the authorities, it will only end up in crash! :D
ign's reviews are never very accurate. xbox one is differently the better choice. i have both and i can say that xbox is still clearly winning. xbox one should at least get a 9. yeah so what sometimes theres a few bugs. but look at it this way, its new UI is new to a game platform console. sony never had the balls to step outside of the box and do things completely different.
Nice review. I do get tired of the internet insinuating I'm a lesser gamer for opting for the Xbone. I like both consoles and I don't think one is more suited to gamers than the other. Their marketing has differed but, Xbox is still primarily a games console and PS4 will give you access to tons of media apps. One is primarily a hardware company, the other is a software company. It shows in the products. The PS4 has better hardware in a far sleeker shell and the Xbox has far more innovative software. The PS4 will get better software features and catch up in that regard and like the last gen, the differences in hardware will not affect the quality of games and the growth of cloud computing will close that gap. Overall, I do think the PS4 is a better day 1 purchase but, I invested in the Xbone for what I think will be my preferred console for the next 8 years. I hope all the early adopters are enjoying whichever they have.
Actually PS4 is more of a hardcore gaming system while Xbox One is more about all around media. Sony says this themselves all the time and Xbox One is commonly referred to as an all-in-one entertainment system. But I do agree with you. I like both systems and look forward to having both. I was a more hardcore Sony fan until I started seriously educating myself. I was always going to get an Xbox One but now I'm actually very excited and interested in it.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm asking because I don't know. I did my research as well and I don't yet see this difference. Sony has been very indie. That in itself isn't hard core but I did appreciate it as I was a huge advocate in XBLA (and should probably have shares in Microsoft after the amount of Arcade titles I bought) but Xbox's ID seems equal to Sony's efforts.

Since you talked about the XBLA you probably want an xbox one since you will be used to the controller (its the same but feels so much better) and keep your account but besides that I think it comes down to your preference in exclusives. I personally choose xbox because its exclusives look better (titan fall, Halo, Dead Rising, Forza, RYSE, killer instinct,etc...) while PS seemed to only have killzone and 2 other big exclusives. Also the kinect is so much better, while I wouldn't rely soly on it it is nice for in game and navigating voice contols. And what your friends are getting also plays a part, ultimatly it comes down to preferance.
It's final, if you only care about games then buy a PS4 and if you want something that does more than play video games then buy an Xbox One. I'm proud of my purchase and hopefully everyone else will with theirs.
Curious that they don't mention the lack of 5.1 Dolby via the optical. Or the constant "Say Stop Listening" popups. Or the frequent "Please Connect Controller" popups. What about the Xbone always being on, always hearing the fans. In order to watch TV, you have to turn on the Xbox... Or the lack of A LOT of things: storage space status, download status, can't voice message friends any more, or that you can't use ANY pre-existing 360 accessories. Any headset that relies on an optical connection, or a controller "mic hole" just won't work any more. I had a Xbone for exactly 38 hours... I was very happy when they accepted my return without hassle. Yeah, I know there is an update coming "Post Launch". Here's a Ferrari, you'll get the engine a little while later. And a chat adapter "Early 2014"? ... Fail. I've never been this disappointed at any product launch. I'm not frustrated enough to make the switch to something as ridiculous as the PS4, but man I'm close. I hate how all these reviews seem to think its ok to be content with mediocrity. John Q Public doesn't get one of these systems to "just try out". Its well over 500$ just to start playing a game. 500$ will get you a top of the line 360 and enough games to keep you busy for a long, long time. "Might want to wait" is the only thing anyone should take away from this video. It's not ok to be mediocre. I wanted to be wowed by this system. Wow, what a let down is more like it. Lets get serious IGN. How is it ok with anyone that this new system isn't a 10. Or at least an 8... Personally, I think 7.8 is too high at the current state of the console. You can watch TV with it? Who cares. I watch TV without it too. Plus I find the three red lights in the Kinect bar extremely distracting. Yeah; I know you can turn all that off. You can turn off the One "all the way", which will disable the voice control. Which brings us back to a bigger, more expensive 360. Really, the graphical improvements are minor at best. Put that 500$ towards a better TV and you'll see some graphical improvements too. Such a shame. Keep and love your 360. It's going to be the best console for another 8 years.

Xbox One: 200,000 dedicated servers with there Xbox live support making a better online experience. Controller was the better one for me, I fell in love with it from the start! Kinect actually made a purpose of being there, it's actually not so bad as you think it is. The exclusives are great, to me a lot better launch titles than the Ps4 titles! The console it self is really quite and the design to me looks better then what it seems like! A lot of failures with the console it;s self was big, but they are already starting to fix them and Microsoft is adding a lot more new features to the console. Ive never got into tv as much as I had have before I got the Xbox one. The interface to me is just has this superb look that made me love this console! The Graphics are brilliant but a tad less good as the ps4 but you can't see a difference! The hardware is good enough for the Xbox One as it isnt as good as the Ps4 hardware it still does play games in 30 - 60 frames making it deffently playable! There are also heaps of games coming to the system! 9.3/10 for me with the Xbox One Ps4: PS Plus is worth it, you get a verity of games to play for free each month. Online service is a lot more better then what we last had with last gen console ps3! The console has a great design that just killed! it looks great in your entertainment centre! The interface to me is kinda just plane. It does look neet but didn't beet Xbox One's. The graphics are great only a tad better than Xbox One! The games look great on this system! Although to me there wasn't reallly any exciting launch titles, I mean i could play them but they just didnt get to the addictive point. But the upcoming games for the PS4 look great! The console has had a lot of issues but doesnt do anything towards not buying one! To be honest I wouldnt get this system till late this year due to the fact there isn't as much games or anything else to keep you busy for the next year. 8/10 for me (The rating to both consoles to me would probarbly change after a year)

xbox one may not be as powerful as ps4 but the exclusives are a lot better on xbox one and the fact of backwards compatibility makes it another reason to buy the console. I really do like the ps4 its fast has some ok exclusives and Call of Duty black ops 3 is an exclusive by a month now. I like the simplicity of PS4 but everytime i have played it i literally get so bored i just turn to my iphone. every time i play xbox one i literally cant stop playing as the exclusives are so great and the social media and apps on the console just keeps me away from my phone and just the games are great! I find the xbox one remote clunky at times and personally prefer the 360 and ps4's remote but overall if your into the entertainment Get an xbox one If your into the specs speed and overall a greater gaming experience get a ps4!
I like my xbox one better than my ps4. The ps4 is great but clearly lacking in features compared to x1. And judging by how sony sony was with the ps3 updates to features over its life cycle makes me worried that what I see is what im gonna get for the next 10 years...where as microsoft pioneers in added features an improvents based on what they did to improve during the 360s lifecycle.

I think that the xbox one needs to stop focusing on the fact that it does many things over the Internet ( Like netflix, youtube , ect, ) and focus more on the games for the console ( basically the opposite of the wii u delema ) they know they have competition on with the ps4 but basically making it a PC doesn't help them much nowadays. I admit, I was impressed at E3 a couple years ago at what it could do. But I think they took it a little too far. I give it a 6.5/10

JoshuaMacGamer It's not that the PS4 is faded, it's that the Xbox One's scaler isn't very good. It tries to compensate by over saturating the colours. That's why a lot of Xbox games have crushed blacks. The PS4 version is how the game was intended to look.

I laugh when they say xbox one is a gaming console first. I have an xbox one, so far it has been pushed mostly on tv and a ways to socialize with friends. Xbox one should not fall in the category of a gaming console, instead it should be just an entertainment system. Gaming is not the only focus Microsoft has, so we should not expect the support we had on xbox360.

If you actually watched and listened to the reviews, you would know that they gave Xbox one a lower score because some of the new entertainment integration slows it down.
MMA bas rutten Actually the PS4 is more powerful since the PS4 isn't split into 3 parts. Its way too early to say "in the long run" for MS based solely on their cloud. I find it odd on how you say the PS4 isn't that much different compared to the PS3 while most people would strongly disagree with that, but you would easily have more people saying that the Xbox 1 is very similar to the 360.

More games on the XOX hit 2160p than on PS4 Pro, more games run at a stable 60fps, more games load faster on OneX than Pro. Plus some games don’t even hit 1440p on PS4 Pro. There are a handful of games that still run at 1080p or lower.

Shouldn't They be reviewing the older generation of consoles instead of the new one? These consoles just came out, there hasn't been enough time to prperly judge them yet.
Of course there has been. It's a review of how the console is currently. It may not be useful to consumers in five years time but it is right now.
If you want just games go ps4, If you want games and lots more go Xbox.

This is a very True review, and the guy is right, we have to give some time into the Xbox One and PS4. When I got a Xbox 360, which was the year when it came out, most of the games I did not like, actually, I never really started playing online until 2009 when I was playing COD 4 and Halo 3. And the Xbox One's launch titles are one of the best we have seen, and shows a good example of the gaming. So we are expecting to see a lot of improvements and much better games in 2014-2015
Both this and Rev 3's review is curiously high quality. I mean, the pan around 3D shots of the console? That's leagues beyond the usual quality reviews and feels more like advertisement work.... It's weird
They had xbox ones in office for a long time according to Adam sessler, so getting all the shots and reviews ready should not have been that hard.

I think they're just high quality because it's a review for a console, which is much more significant than a video game. Doesn't really feel like advertisement to me, just more attention to detail.
Tbh its not hard to do, you need a camera, a table and either a green screen or a white background n then touch it up in editing software. Not exactly blowing the doors of anyone's budget... Plus they've had it for ages now so they've had the time to do it. And as the others say its an important review so they'll spend more time on it and they might have just asked for the shots. Don't know why something being done well means they've been bought by Microsoft.
I got a Xbox One because Microsoft were willing to go into territory no other companies would. I don't care about the PS4 or PC, one is because I don't have the cash to be swapping up graphics cards, two I want to do more then just play games. I want a "Complete" experience, with games and media. Given time, the Xbox One will ultimately be 1st. It has features that keep people coming back.

The Xbox One may have some impressive features and greatly improved from it's predecessor, those features does not justify buying a $500 console that is inferior to the PS4, and almost all of it's features are completely nullified if you don't have Xbox Live Gold. I just don't understand that mentality.
If Sony is offering a cheaper system that is more gamer-centric and more powerful than the Xbox One, why sell yourself short on a great opportunity? Everyone knows Sony offers more unique exclusives and PS+ destroys Games with Gold easily. I used to be a Microsoft fanboy until this gen. I'm not throwing money down the drain on a more expensive console that's not geared towards the games. This is just my opinion.

I fully disagree with this reviewer. I do not believe forcing the Kinect on gamers is a good thing considering most hardcore gamers want nothing to do with it, yet are forced to pay an extra 100$ for it. Additionally, we do not care about all these multimedia features which we will probably never use if they will not improve our gameplay experience. I am a hardcore gamer. I want incredible games with innovation, improved graphical fidelity, great controls, an awesome singe-player and multiplayer mode, and a social network centered around my fellow gamers and I so we can connect and play games together effortlessly. It seems that Nintendo, Sony, and definently Microsoft are using their time and money trying to include applications and and services that are usless to gamers. Also, they are taking away our right to privacy, and they are releasing games year after year while milking our money as much as they can. Is a modern gaming focused console hard to ask for? This is why the Atari, Sega, Nintendo, and original Playstation days will always be the best years of gaming.

I got a PS4 but I think XBONE is awesome too. I prefer PS because of its exclusive and I'm more familiar with it. And let's be honest, I'm biased with sony. But I cannot hide the fact that XBONE is gorgeous in terms of UI and the controller is god damn amazing. I would like to try it too if I have a chance. One cannot go wrong with these two consoles. Both of them has their own pros and cons.

I've watched both the PS4 and Xbox One review's but despite the price I like the Xbox One better but I have been a PS fan since i was 7 or 6. But I just don't like the PS4 that much Sorry PS fan's I also do like the PS3 still and the Xbox 360 but the Xbox One is the best Console I ever had despite the rang of games for now. :)

Less than 1% of PS4's are failing and that's most due to output issues. Compared to the Xbox One bricking MUCH more and the broken disc drive I'd say Sony is doing pretty good. I'm not saying it's a bad console by any means. Of course it's less powerful than the PS4 but that's besides the point. All I'm saying is how can they still have a power brick AND still be larger than the PS4 along with being less powerful. Doesn't make sense.

Brian ruiz I just read a few articles that described it. And the drive can't easily be fixed by the user so either way you have to send it back to Microsoft or Sony. Doesn't really matter what the problem is. You still have to send it back. So it's a matter of which has the higher failure rate.
PS4 is cheaper, faster, better looking, PlayStation Plus is cheaper than Xbox live, gives you free games every month, and won't the hard drive of the Xbox get full really have because each game is like 40gb and this Xbox One is supposed to last me 10 years, I don't think so. Don't get me wrong as a pure gaming machine the PS4 will always be better even if at Times marginally so than the one, at no point has the one ever directly attempted to directly compete with the ps4 in the gaming aspect, all I'm saying is that Microsoft is aiming to be an accomplished all rounder, a middle ground if you will between the Wii U and the PS4, I am a Wii U owner myself and I have been considering the one simply because of the added features, ultimately I decided I am too much of a Nintendo fan to move away just yet and I wish to give both systems some time to let it play out, that being said I think that the one has a much better chance against the ps4 than it's predecessor ever did against the Ps3, not because of specs or anything but just out of pure extras.

Its main focus is media man not gaming. It has crappy games now, (not that PS4 are great) and I don't see Microsoft getting better in that department either. Sony though, you know they will deliver when it comes to games. And same with PC.
the whole point of a games console is to be for gamers, this is not it. Using the voice command option is lazy and will ware out quickly. Microsoft make it seem like it is more for tv than gaming since its easy for me to switch anyway to tv. Day3Gaming The kinect really grows on you. When I bought a Xbox and ps4 back in November, I thought I would never use the kinect but like I said it grows on you and makes multitasking easy. When I play my ps4,360 or ps3 I forget that I can't just say "go to " whatever I want. Also how is the Xbox one focused on TV? It has 1 TV feature. Finally I was on psn when it got hacked and was down for over 2 weeks....

Day3Gaming exactly it is a game console. Microsoft wrongd the Xbox one by offering it as an entertainment console, it is one but a lot of people won't use the other features. The reason I use kinect is because it makes multitasking so much easier. If I'm playing an RPG and get stuck I can just say "Xbox search game guide" or if I want to record gameplay I just say record that. It actually becomes helpful. The TV thing is a nice feature when you think about how much stuff comes on all systems like Netflix, Hulu,RUclips, amazon video, etc. Why not do TV now? Saying Xbox off is as lazy as turning off your console via wireless controller, which we have had for the last 2 generations. Have you tried playing an Xbox one? I don't mean going to GameStop but going to someone's house and sitting down with it. That's what convinced me to get one after I had already bought my ps4. PS: I only use TV during load screens and downloading, a lot of people don't even use the feature.

xbox one kills ps4 game wise...and the tv feature is sufficient but still has flaws...iv'e been playing way more on my xbox one because its hooked up to the cable and i can snap or go right back to my game...i love my ps4 but as of right now the playstation experience is lackluster
PS3 killed 360 game wise, will probably happen again with all the games Sony studios are working on.

To me ps4s os is hands down the fastest and simplest menu interface on any console. Everything fast to reach and easy to navigate. And it has so much space to grow. U all say xbox has more potencial and is gonna grow more. But what u call growth is fixing kinect and tryin to get the menu to where ps4 already has it now. Ps4 already has a near perfect setup so they dont have waste time before expanding their features. Both consoles were rushed and r missin stuff but its obvious sony focoused on gaming first.

Which for many people is a mistake, because we were wanting and expecting a next gen GAMING CONSOLE, not a standalone Windows MEDIA PLAYER!
MS completely misread the market when they introduced the Kinect for the 360, in answer to Nintendo's gimmicky controller.
People just weren't interested in buying into Kinect and very few games actually supported it. For me the only true application for Kinect is in keep fit training video's, where it worked well enough for Nintendo and it's casual user and kids support clientele.
Now the XBomb costs much more than PS4 due to the NO CHOICE bundling of Kinect, which few people actually want and fewer still people will actually use after the first week, when it will be left in a cupboard. To make matters even worse, the new Kinect doesn't work as well as MS claimed it would on release. So those customers who might have been willing to be impressed with it, will have abandoned it forever before any future upgrade software is released for it and won't bother, UNLESS they are absolutely forced to drag it out and upgrade it by some future patches. I expect that to happen and would find it a major annoyance.
:LMAOOO, I have the XB1 and Kinect is not a waste, the whole UI was designed around Kinect. It makes everything easier. Mine works no problem. Full 1080p camera is really nice on Skype. My Sony friends are impressed with it and were having fun controlling the XBOX itself and using in game commands in BF4 with it. Sony is competing with MS but MS is competing with Sony & Apple, among many other companies. They aren't gonna limit their console to just gaming. See there is the beautiful thing, you don't like the XBOX then buy the PS4. No need to bash the XBOX b/c you don't like what they did
DO NOT base your decision on hardware differences.
The PS4 isn't that much stronger than the XBox One. We'll know more later, but the best graphics of launch titles is actually an Xbox One exclusive (Ryse kills the competition). The Xbox One's setup is lower latency and faster speed, whereas the PS4 is all about big bandwidth, and if games go in the direction I think they're going (more approximated ray-tracing, less rasterization), then low latency is going to be much more important than high bandwidth. Future graphics algorithms aside, the machines are still "very close" according to John Carmack (if you don't know who that is, you should look him up. He's one of the biggest innovators in graphics algorithms in the industry). I'm going to tell you why the machines are very close.
8 GB of GDDR5 memory sounds amazing but GDDR5 memory is dual socketed RAM, it's meant to make loading textures faster, and by nature of dual-socketed RAM, the size of the space available has logarithmic payouts (the more you have the less it improves). The PS4's CPU has to use the RAM for it's processing too, so it causes more processor overhead (wasted processing time) than the XBox One's setup, which sacrificed stream processors for embedded SRAM which runs simultaneously with it's native DDR3 RAM. That plus the built-in move engines not only means less latency but also less CPU burst and wasted processing time. "Oh but the PS4 has 50% more stream processes!" If you've ever said this than you're a PC gamer and you only care about your spreadsheets and not what's actually happening inside the rig. The way stream processes help improve graphics is by increasing the number of threads (more parallel processing) the processor can run, but the payout is logarithmic. Microsoft, being a software company and understanding the underlying computer science, decided to trim off the extra stream processes and boost the GPU in other areas that are more impactful.
"But PS4 games are being rendered at a higher native resolution!" That's because the XBox One uses 10% less of it's total processing power on the game than the PS4 and reserves it for the operating system (windows 8 and multi-tasking and such). The developers dealt with it by just lowering the native rendering resolution. Some gripe about it, but I personally can't tell the difference.
In the end, the differences between the machine's specs are miniscule in comparison to the impact the quality of the dev-kits and the robustness of the OS will have. A 10%-20% difference in chip power pails in comparison to the difference a well-written program makes. But no one is talking about that, everyone is caught up in the spreadsheets. As much as it might pain you, we simply won't know until a year or two down the road which one has a superior dev-kit and drivers. Maybe that's why so many are griping about chip differences, since that's the only thing we know right now and everyone wants to know everything right now.
So I'm saying all this so that you don't fool yourself by purchasing one over another because you think one box is superior over the other based on hardware alone. The hardware between these two is actually closer than it was last gen. You should be concerned much more about other things such as exclusives, total experience, friends, and so on.
I am getting the PS4 because I have been playing playstation since the first one was made. Before that it was the nes, snes and n64. Then sony got a hold of me with their playstation. I got a high end gaming pc but I am so excited to get my PS4, mainly because of the exclusives and all my friends having one. I get what you are saying, to many people simply just want to piss people off by saying which one is better. I just enjoy gaming in general. I bought the xbox 360 last year and have enjoyed the exclusives it had to offer. But I am excited to get back on a brand new playstation entertainment system. You got lots of great points by the way. I still think its funny one of the main selling points of the Ps4 for people is the hardware. Can you notice the difference between the Ps4 and Xbox1 version of games? No. Is it a nice bonus? Yes. But is it a selling factor? Of course not. You buy a console for games not specs. If you want good specs go build or buy a gaming pc. Hell I have one and I don't enjoy it nearly as much as a console.

As far as upgrading it goes.. your driver manufacturer should be releasing constant updates to bring more potential to your system for free..don't know where you got the $200 part from unless you really expect people to keep buying graphics cards each and every year.
Don't compare Xbox One to PS4, Compare Xbox One to Xbox 360, that's is after all what they based the console off and went from there, they didn't say ok sony whats your console going to look like, whats its specs, ok thanks we will make this console like this now. No they went from what made the xbox 360 great and improved and add, it may not be perfect just yet but with future patches or even new versions of the console down the road we might end up with something even better, iron out all the bugs and polish off the UI you already end up with something almost every game wants, I do wish they went with more of the windows 8 feel where I could customise the design to my liking but none the less this is still a nice looking console and im happy with my day one purchase of it, later down the line I might buy a ps4 or upgrade to a new version of the xbox one, depending on what happens which right now no one can say.
Yes you have to compare Xbox 1 with PS 4.. After all, it is a choice between Xbox 1 and PS 4 not Xbox 360 and Xbox 1... It's like saying : Don't compare AMD 8350 with Intel core I5 compare it with AMD 8300 because it's an older model... Or Nvidia 780 with AMD x290 Compare it with Nvidia 680....

I've been a Sony gamer all my life and need thought of getting an Xbox, but this time I was a little more open minded and decided to try out both. My friend has both and honestly I found the Xbox one to be a more enjoyable experience, it's not only a gaming console but also an entertainment system, ps4 is strictly gaming and the visuals are hardly better than the XB1, and the XB1 exclusives look great. Ps4 is a great system too, I can't say it sucks and I don't think anyone can, but to say the Xbox sucks is also just as stupid. Both are great consoles, I just went with the XB1 because I personally feel it's a funner system. Though more than likely ill get a ps4 later on down the road.

Playstation started off well with the ps1 and ps2 easily beating original xbox ps3 wasnt so great 360 won last generation this generation ps4 is the obvious choice for a gamer more power better graphics better and more exclusives huge improvement in controller can actually use for shooters now and just focuses on gaming unlike the kinect reserving 10% of the xbones rams. Xbone is a failure this gen ps4 wins hands down.

How am i a fanboy? I was on xbox 360 last gen i simply choose the better system. At you acknowledge that the ps4 is better theres a lot of xbox fanboys who refuse to accept that fact. Xbox is a decent system only ps4 is better. I respect your opinion though.

Had the Xbox One since Mid-December and have not used the snap feature once.
Or the Tv stuff, but that's because my TV has built in freeview and there is no way use the TV stuff without having to buy something.

Now it only really depends on the games. If the PS4 games look better than the Xbox One's - get that, but if you prefer the Xbox One games - get that.Although the PS4, at the moment, doesn't have many exclusives announced that have a release date and so could be over a year away. Maybe leave it until after E3, if you're not sure. But I would say that most of the problems, that they mention in this review, have been resolved.

ign's reviews are never very accurate. xbox one is differently the better choice. i have both and i can say that xbox is still clearly winning. xbox one should at least get a 9. yeah so what sometimes theres a few bugs. but look at it this way, its new UI is new to a game platform console. sony never had the balls to step outside of the box and do things completely different.

I do get tired of the internet insinuating I'm a lesser gamer for opting for the Xbone. I like both consoles and I don't think one is more suited to gamers than the other. Their marketing has differed but, Xbox is still primarily a games console and PS4 will give you access to tons of media apps.
One is primarily a hardware company, the other is a software company. It shows in the products. The PS4 has better hardware in a far sleeker shell and the Xbox has far more innovative software. The PS4 will get better software features and catch up in that regard and like the last gen, the differences in hardware will not affect the quality of games and the growth of cloud computing will close that gap.
Overall, I do think the PS4 is a better day 1 purchase but, I invested in the Xbone for what I think will be my preferred console for the next 8 years.
I hope all the early adopters are enjoying whichever they have.
Actually PS4 is more of a hardcore gaming system while Xbox One is more about all around media. Sony says this themselves all the time and Xbox One is commonly referred to as an all-in-one entertainment system. But I do agree with you. I like both systems and look forward to having both. I was a more hardcore Sony fan until I started seriously educating myself. I was always going to get an Xbox One but now I'm actually very excited and interested in it.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm asking because I don't know. I did my research as well and I don't yet see this difference.
Sony has been very indie. That in itself isn't hard core but I did appreciate it as I was a huge advocate in XBLA (and should probably have shares in Microsoft after the amount of Arcade titles I bought) but Xbox's ID seems equal to Sony's efforts.

Since you talked about the XBLA you probably want an xbox one since you will be used to the controller (its the same but feels so much better) and keep your account but besides that I think it comes down to your preference in exclusives. I personally choose xbox because its exclusives look better (titan fall, Halo, Dead Rising, Forza, RYSE, killer instinct,etc...) while PS seemed to only have killzone and 2 other big exclusives. Also the kinect is so much better, while I wouldn't rely soly on it it is nice for in game and navigating voice contols. And what your friends are getting also plays a part, ultimatly it comes down to preferance.

I like Microsoft but I think it was descent and you have to consider the fact that it's xbox one's first model.
It's final, if you only care about games then buy a PS4 and if you want something that does more than play video games then buy an Xbox One. I'm proud of my purchase and hopefully everyone else will with theirs.
Curious that they don't mention the lack of 5.1 Dolby via the optical. Or the constant "Say Stop Listening" popups. Or the frequent "Please Connect Controller" popups. What about the Xbone always being on, always hearing the fans. In order to watch TV, you have to turn on the Xbox... Or the lack of A LOT of things: storage space status, download status, can't voice message friends any more, or that you can't use ANY pre-existing 360 accessories. Any headset that relies on an optical connection, or a controller "mic hole" just won't work any more. I had a Xbone for exactly 38 hours... I was very happy when they accepted my return without hassle. Yeah, I know there is an update coming "Post Launch". Here's a Ferrari, you'll get the engine a little while later. And a chat adapter "Early 2014"? ... Fail. I've never been this disappointed at any product launch. I'm not frustrated enough to make the switch to something as ridiculous as the PS4, but man I'm close. I hate how all these reviews seem to think its ok to be content with mediocrity. John Q Public doesn't get one of these systems to "just try out". Its well over 500$ just to start playing a game. 500$ will get you a top of the line 360 and enough games to keep you busy for a long, long time. "Might want to wait" is the only thing anyone should take away from this video. It's not ok to be mediocre. I wanted to be wowed by this system. Wow, what a let down is more like it. Lets get serious IGN. How is it ok with anyone that this new system isn't a 10. Or at least an 8... Personally, I think 7.8 is too high at the current state of the console. You can watch TV with it? Who cares. I watch TV without it too. Plus I find the three red lights in the Kinect bar extremely distracting. Yeah; I know you can turn all that off. You can turn off the One "all the way", which will disable the voice control. Which brings us back to a bigger, more expensive 360. Really, the graphical improvements are minor at best. Put that 500$ towards a better TV and you'll see some graphical improvements too. Such a shame. Keep and love your 360. It's going to be the best console for another 8 years.

Xbox One: 200,000 dedicated servers with there Xbox live support making a better online experience. Controller was the better one for me, I fell in love with it from the start! Kinect actually made a purpose of being there, it's actually not so bad as you think it is. The exclusives are great, to me a lot better launch titles than the Ps4 titles! The console it self is really quite and the design to me looks better then what it seems like! A lot of failures with the console it;s self was big, but they are already starting to fix them and Microsoft is adding a lot more new features to the console. Ive never got into tv as much as I had have before I got the Xbox one. The interface to me is just has this superb look that made me love this console! The Graphics are brilliant but a tad less good as the ps4 but you can't see a difference! The hardware is good enough for the Xbox One as it isnt as good as the Ps4 hardware it still does play games in 30 - 60 frames making it deffently playable! There are also heaps of games coming to the system!

Ps4: PS Plus is worth it, you get a verity of games to play for free each month. Online service is a lot more better then what we last had with last gen console ps3! The console has a great design that just killed! it looks great in your entertainment centre! The interface to me is kinda just plane. It does look neet but didn't beet Xbox One's. The graphics are great only a tad better than Xbox One! The games look great on this system! Although to me there wasn't reallly any exciting launch titles, I mean i could play them but they just didnt get to the addictive point. But the upcoming games for the PS4 look great! The console has had a lot of issues but doesnt do anything towards not buying one! To be honest I wouldnt get this system till late this year due to the fact there isn't as much games or anything else to keep you busy for the next year.
8/10 for me (The rating to both consoles to me would probarbly change after a year)

Fair review, I can see how both consoles are great in their own ways, I'm personally picking up the PS4 because I'm firstly a gamer and every game is better on the PS4 at the moment, I'll probably pick up the XBone in a few years.

Every game is better on PS4 at the moment? Killzone shadow fall is the only good game on PS4. It's launch line up is weak. Until Uncharted 4 comes out, PS4 hasn't got a game to make you buy the console right now.

xbox one may not be as powerful as ps4 but the exclusives are a lot better on xbox one and the fact of backwards compatibility makes it another reason to buy the console. I really do like the ps4 its fast has some ok exclusives and Call of Duty black ops 3 is an exclusive by a month now. I like the simplicity of PS4 but everytime i have played it i literally get so bored i just turn to my iphone. every time i play xbox one i literally cant stop playing as the exclusives are so great and the social media and apps on the console just keeps me away from my phone and just the games are great! I find the xbox one remote clunky at times and personally prefer the 360 and ps4's remote but overall if your into the entertainment Get an xbox one If your into the specs speed and overall a greater gaming experience get a ps4!

I like my xbox one better than my ps4. The ps4 is great but clearly lacking in features compared to x1. And judging by how sony sony was with the ps3 updates to features over its life cycle makes me worried that what I see is what im gonna get for the next 10 years...where as microsoft pioneers in added features an improvents based on what they did to improve during the 360s lifecycle.
