My father was a Yeoman Warder. My parents last abode was Tower Green, right by the Bloody Tower (known internally as "the blood tub"), which my mother used to clean after closing. My children were baptised in the chapel of St.Peter ad Vincula. Thank you very much for this excellent video! 😍
Oh wow - that is so amazing! What fascinating experiences you had. Thank you for sharing! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.
I am a Londoner, born in St John's wood in 1929. I just love walking around London with you. As I am living in Sydney Australia, I do miss MY London, so a very Big Thank You.🙏🙏🇦🇺🦜🐨🦘
I'm stunned. Your video shows 100% more of the Tower than I was able to see in 1985. The jewels were not even there at that time, they had temporarily sent them away (?). But all the rooms of the monarchs were also not available, or if I walked through them they must have all looked the same, with no markers. You have done a wonderful job and NOW I have seen a lot of the Tower.
The Yeoman Warders are amazing. When I visited the Tower in 2015, two stood at the chapel and explained what the chapel was used as and who were buried underneath. At the end, they kindly reminded everyone that you had to mind your step when going outside. Should any woman fall, she was reminded that these men were strong and would gladly catch them. Should any man fall, he would be reminded that the ground was rather hard.
Excellent tour, thank you. Having visited the Tower on three occasions, this is the most informative visit of all. It's really great when someone from a different country takes such an interest in British history.
Glad that you enjoyed the video. If you haven't done so already, you can hopefully check out our back catalogue of virtual London tours ruclips.net/user/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. There is more where this came from.
agreed very detail indeed. I've been there twice and I only briefly knew the history. I knew more of inside than outside. thank you, interesting tour indeed❤
Thanks so much. I'm a disabled EMT/FIREFIGHTER & bedridden. I spend a lot of time watching vids, touring the world and places I'd have loved to see. This is marvelous. I do have a suggestion. When you walked by several displays mentioning the items, you didn't take time to show them. Even just 3 seconds or so would be lovely to see things. The material used in the beds, weaponry, coins, helmets, etc. I'll check out other vids to see if I can find them. Keep up the great work & climbing... Look forward to seeing your other tours.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Maeve, and that I ca help you travel virtually. You are also right about the camera work - this was my first video so hopefully you'll see the improvement in my others :) ruclips.net/p/PLo-M-WVj_1AgnS93gTRHiJWxsgLzCt4CT
That was excellent, thank you. I am a wheelchair user, as such I would not be able to access, many of the areas which you covered, so without you I would have missed so much ❤
I’m in the same situation, I would love to visit more of the historical sites we have but for access reasons this is more or less an impossibility. So thank you so much for giving such a detailed and informative view of this. From the comfort of my sofa I can immerse myself in our fascinating history, I will be looking out for more of your content now 😀
What about them bionic legs what the US army are testing out people in wheelchairs can actually stand up and walk in them?? Probably too expensive though but hopefully in another 5-10 years they price will drop so you can afford them..

I just found this channel and I'm so excited. London is my number one place on my bucket list to visit, mainly because of the Tower of London. I've just felt drawn to it ever since I was a little girl. I'm an American, and I think our history is so boring. English history is my favorite by far.
I'm British and I do love our history. I have alot of American friends and they are all interested in our history. I also live in a very historic town. It's beautiful
I'm an American who has been to England on extended trips three times. I was interested in British history long before that. The Tower is among my favorite places to visit. My first trip was in 1993 and I was there again in 2001. My last visit was in 2008, when I went with my 5 year old (at the time) son. He still remembers the Yeoman Warder who was out tour guide. I hope he remains interested in the history as I have all these years.
@@ToursbyFootLondon I appreciate the tour :) I visited London, but my time space was limited, so I visited the Tower an hour before it closed without tour. This video showed me how much i missed. I'm looking foreward to a tour in the tour with free tours by foot or with a beefeater. Heard they really show the british humour during the tours :) But thanks for the video and the information :)
Really great video, thanks for your effort putting this together, allowing people like myself who have never visited, to be able to have an indepth and comprehensive tour.
These walking tours online, are great. I really appreciate watching them. I am wheelchair disabled in US. Love to see some from Italy and Austria/ Germany. Sandrigham Home of Kings & Queens, also. Haven't seen any online.
We are so glad to share them with you, Kay! Sandringham has no public access, alas :( Our European channel may be of interest to you, though: ruclips.net/channel/UCDqyEmKOSkMbSYuLI3XTSBQvideos

It was so unexpected wonderful! I had no idea and simply stumbled upon this. What began a quick look turned into a perfectly, enjoyable evening. It was brilliant! 🇺🇸
I have been to London many times in my younger years. In truth, it was my favorite city to visit, and the Tower and Westminster Abbey were my favorite places in the world to just wander around and soak up all the history. Just incredible! Margaret gives a really nice tour, informative but relatable and personable. I will definitely be looking at some of her other videos. I can only imagine how sore her feet and legs are at the end of the day from all that walking and climbing!
Thank you so much. I visited a few years ago and you showed a couple of places that were closed at the time, and missed only one place I can think of. I didn't pay that much attention to all the history trying to see it all but your narration filled in the blanks. Excellent tour!

We did not see everything, when there. I refused to rush. As soon as the world gets back to sanity, we want to go back, and the Tower will be on our list. You did an excellent job and sharing history. I highly recommend reading about the history, it adds to the fullness of the visit. Thank you for sharing.

This was a FANTASTIC tour! Like a previous commenter, i have to say that your tour is so much better than I’ve seen from the professionals. You don’t add a ton of extra chat or anecdotes that have nothing to do with your wander through the tower, and whatever you have to say is succinct and well-spoken. I really, REALLY enjoyed this.

This is an amazing virtual tour!!! Thank you!!! I so want to visit London and the Tower of London. Every time I visit London I have to go to the Tower, my favorite place. Thank you. You did a marvelous job and really enjoyed it. Being in lock down, sick or snow day - this is a fabulous way of traveling and sight seeing. Well done !
Thank you so much for this. I was able to see some of this as a young woman in the 1980s. I think at that time it was not as open or as much of a historical museum quality place. I would love to think I will be able to travel again, but it brings me joy that you’ve opened up this view.
They have definitely changed the displays since then, you are right! I hope that you make it back one day but I am glad that my video can fill the gap if not :)

I walked through some of the Towers in 89. We went to England and Scotland on family vacation for almost 3 weeks. We spent most of our time in and around Stratford upon Avon. We spent 3 days in Scotland. And our last 3 days were in London. The jewels and clothing were so pretty.

This is my favorite tour yet I've always wanted to visit the tower of London. I think the ravens story is fascinating. I love all the historical information that you provide.
An immensely enjoyable tour made even better by the very pretty Margaret who speaks with excellent clarity and easily understood. How fortunate that the whole establishment survived unscathed by the Bombings during WW2. So much history within this place, one can only wish that the walls (or Ravens could talk). Thankyou for a very entertaining hours tour of one of the most notorious buildings in the world. From: Will (Australia) ♔ 🇦🇺

The ROYALS we're NAZI SUPPORTERS haven't you seen the old pics of them doing HEIL HITLER SALUTES??? And don't you find it funny all LONDON was bombed and the palace didn't??? That's the first thing you'd bomb and destroy isn't it to try and break the spirit of the natives. And the ROYALTY should be abolished now the Queen has passed away because the others are absolute useless parasites..
Thank you, Margaret, for this wonderful tour of the Tower. I'm in the USA and cannot travel due to illness. You've made it able for me to check off one of the items on my "bucket list" and I must say, your voice is very likable and friendly, helping me enjoy it even more. I'm subbed.

When I visited the Tower grounds in 2017, all of the buildings were open, including Beauchamp Tower, so it's interesting to see that it's closed, and not the first video that shows it closed. By the way, I loved your video. You've done your homework. I see in the comments you did address the location of executions. I spent a whole day on the grounds so I did get to go into every building. Just amazing history. And I have a picture of two of the ravens. I stood only about a foot apart from them. They are beautiful!
I have enjoyed this tour as well as other videos I have seen. I appreciated the soothing voice of the tour guide, who I can definitely tell is quite an expert on this location.
I visited in June 2006. I travel with Corporate America and toured the Tower with them. I’m so busy with keeping them together (think of chaperoning kids!) that I didn’t get to really listen to our guide and take in everything. Many things that you’ve shown, we didn’t even go through. So this video gave me so much information and insight!! Thank you!!!

You have produced a most excellent and thorough tour of the Tower. Although I've visited several times, you had access to areas I was not able to see, which was a delight. As a professional gemologist and student of the British Crown Jewels, I hope you will accept the following note as a worthwile addition to your vast historical knowledge. Only Cullinan I an II - the greater Stars of Africa - are part of the Crown Jewels. HM Queen Elizabeth II personally owns numbers III through IX, all privately purchased from Asscher's by her great grandfather King Edward VII and inherited from her grandmother, Queen Mary, each set among various brooches, necklaces and even one ring. Ciao for now!

I really enjoyed watching this video as a disabled person I wouldn't be able to walk up all the stairs so a huge thank you for this great tour and information about the Tower of London.
Great video. Small correction. While Henry VIII had the Queen’s House built, it was not completed at the time of Anne Boleyn’s execution. She stayed in royal apartments of the medieval palace that stood between the White Tower and the other towers where parts of the medieval palace still remain. Henry had the apartments refurbished for Anne’s coronation, and as you said she stayed there before her execution. Research has shown that Anne’s and some of the other executions within the Tower actually took place between the White Tower and the Waterloo Barracks- which you showed as you left the St Peter ad Vincula.
Thank you for the detail on Anne Boleyn's time at the Tower :) And yes, I have heard about the theory that the actual execution site was in between the WB and the WT. I know some of the HRP team disagree so I went with the traditional but perhaps I should've mentioned both! I am pleased you enjoyed it and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and info with us!
@@TheMargotMoore Great video. I have been to London a couple of times but never was able to visit the tower. Lady Anne Shelton was my 13th great grandmother. She was Anne Boleyn before marrying John Shelton , and she was the aunt of Queen Anne Boleyn. She cared for Elizabeth and Mary at the tower and in Norfolk as well. I have always loved Tudor history.
@@kshelton My great grandmother is Lady Rachael Hays Beauchamp. My great grandfather is Collins which there is a signature Collins in the tower. They must of meant at the Tower of London in the Beauchamp Tower!!! Then migrated to the United States. My grandfather Collins they lived in Denver, Colorado. I am related to all the Royals.

I am a Londoner, born in St John's wood in 1929. I just love walking around London with you. As I am living in Sydney Australia, I do miss MY London, so a very Big Thank You.🙏🙏🇦🇺🦜🐨🦘
We are so glad to travel with you virtually!
Thank you so much, MsBeryl :)
We're you living in St John's during the War?
It will break your heart if you saw the state of London and it's boroughs just remember your London as it was back in the day.
Then smash that like button and share this video :)
the jewel house was relocated in the 90s . people had to wait for hours in a queue to get access into the underground vault down a narrow staircase .
A very through and informative description. Extremely in depth tour.
It was 36 years ago ffs and you're stunned a popular tourist attraction has improved in that time!
Completely transformed rather than 'improved' as a visitor experience
The Yeoman Warders are amazing. When I visited the Tower in 2015, two stood at the chapel and explained what the chapel was used as and who were buried underneath. At the end, they kindly reminded everyone that you had to mind your step when going outside.
Should any woman fall, she was reminded that these men were strong and would gladly catch them. Should any man fall, he would be reminded that the ground was rather hard.
"That's sexist!" -- Someone, probably. 😂
😆
🤣
Good one 😂👍
Excellent tour, thank you. Having visited the Tower on three occasions, this is the most informative visit of all. It's really great when someone from a different country takes such an interest in British history.

agreed very detail indeed. I've been there twice and I only briefly knew the history. I knew more of inside than outside. thank you, interesting tour indeed❤
I was there once. It was interesting.
There are alot of Monarchist fans in the US. ❤️
Delighted you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Maeve, and that I ca help you travel virtually. You are also right about the camera work - this was my first video so hopefully you'll see the improvement in my others :) ruclips.net/p/PLo-M-WVj_1AgnS93gTRHiJWxsgLzCt4CT
Thank you for your service ❤
That was excellent, thank you. I am a wheelchair user, as such I would not be able to access, many of the areas which you covered, so without you I would have missed so much ❤
So glad that we could bring a bit of the Tower of London to you.
I ditto you
I’m in the same situation, I would love to visit more of the historical sites we have but for access reasons this is more or less an impossibility. So thank you so much for giving such a detailed and informative view of this. From the comfort of my sofa I can immerse myself in our fascinating history, I will be looking out for more of your content now 😀
I’m in a wheelchair in the US. Thank You
What about them bionic legs what the US army are testing out people in wheelchairs can actually stand up and walk in them?? Probably too expensive though but hopefully in another 5-10 years they price will drop so you can afford them..
I’ll not be able to travel however Your utube tube channel allows me the joy of seeing English History.
Thank You ❤

You left out the block and axe in the White Tower. 🪓
I just found this channel and I'm so excited. London is my number one place on my bucket list to visit, mainly because of the Tower of London. I've just felt drawn to it ever since I was a little girl. I'm an American, and I think our history is so boring. English history is my favorite by far.
Welcome to the channel, Justine!
So glad you liked this one, Justine! I moved from the US to study British history in London so you and I are cut from the same cloth :)
Hope you get to visit us soon :)
Danke!
Gerne! Wir wissen es zu schaetzen, Daniel. Das ist sehr großzügig

I’m so busy with keeping them together (think of chaperoning kids!) that I didn’t get to really listen to our guide and take in everything. Many things that you’ve shown, we didn’t even go through. So this video gave me so much information and insight!! Thank you!!!
Our pleasure, Cass. Glad that you enjoyed the video. If you haven't done so already, you can hopefully check out our back catalogue of virtual London tours ruclips.net/user/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. There is more where this came from.

Same here, Sharon!
Thank you this was incredible..I was at the Tower at the beginning of the pandemic and didn't get to see everything including the White Tower this has completed for me what I sadly missed on the day I was there...awesome. I did enjoy the day with no crowds so was special for other reasons.

We love getting extra tidbits like this! Thank you for sharing :) I bet your job is absolutely fascinating!
an absolutely wonderful view of some interesting & brutal history. certainly one of my favourite videos on youtube. thank you so much for sharing your research. ❤️

Your documentary is the best I've seen. Your presentation was excellent. The different items shown were super interesting and you gave enough time to see each one. It was all very clearly seen and explained. It was great. Your voice was very pleasing to listen to.

You've got a wicked sense of humour. When talking about Tower Hill being the place where most executions took place, you said: beheading there in a minute! 🤣 37:20
I'd like to say that was on purpose - haha!
OMG
What a wonderful job you did on this tour! I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing.

Aw, what a lovely comment to read. Thank you so much!
Just an outstanding tour!
All Tudor history enthusiasts have an amazing view of the Chapel of St. Peter ad Vincula like no other. So many famous Tudor characters are buried beneath the floor of this chapel as their final resting place.
The views of all sides and interior of the chapel is brilliant!
Our pleasure.
My husband and I toured the beautiful tower in 1977. The jewels were there then and they were so beautiful! I remember we couldn't stop we had to keep slowly walking.
They are so incredible to see!
They are my favourite thing, I spend ages staring at them every time I go!
THAT was amazing!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. The history, as well as the visual, was outstanding. Well done.

Thank you for the detail on Anne Boleyn's time at the Tower :)
And yes, I have heard about the theory that the actual execution site was in between the WB and the WT.
@@kshelton
My great grandmother is Lady Rachael Hays Beauchamp. My great grandfather is Collins which there is a signature Collins in the tower. They must of meant at the Tower of London in the Beauchamp Tower!!! Then migrated to the United States. My grandfather Collins they lived in Denver, Colorado. I am related to all the Royals. Robert de Bruce on my father's O'Neil DNA. My Collins DNA is King Louis 16th. Both of course go to the Kings of Egypt. I have been twice to my Beauchamp Tower. I live in California. I am related to the other Boleyn sister.
Very interesting video thank you from the USA I really enjoyed it.

Could you please do a Hever Castle tour?!? 😊
Thank you, Christy! And YES - Hever Castle is on my list. I am hoping to film it in April and have it released in the summer (fingers crossed). My next one will be Edinburgh Castle :)
Awesome!! 😮
Can’t wait for both of those!! ❤
Thank you for a brilliant tour! As a Londoner, I’ve been to the tower many times but You made it all come flooding back. Thanks again
