I am building a large (>2000 sq. ft.) rain collection roof. Has there been any studies that you know of that look at the differences in runoff contamination between SMP vs PVDF? I would assume if the coatings are so long lasting that very little transfer would happen into the water running over the roof.
Hi, can both PVDF and SMP be painted over in the future? What type of primer and finish coats would be appropriate for such an application? Change of color is the motivation for the recoat. Any special cleaning or prep steps needed?
A little gasoline and diesel on a cotton rag(boxer briefs or flannel shirt) rubs right out. Then hit with a pressure washer with dawn dish soap air dry and you eat off next day. That's how we did it back in shipyards in Iceland back in the 60s
We have a steel roof in the northeast where we get lots of snow and ice. Which paint is recommended for this climate? It has been wire brushed where needed, and primed and painted. The last paint used flaked off. The roof has been on the house for 40 years, first time having a flaking issue.
@@TheMetalRoofingChannel Hello just seen you video. My question is i have a metal roof that is only a couple yrs old but I'd like to change the color to a blue. What do you recommend sir
Hello, Carlos! A PVDF paint system will be longer lasting than an SMP paint system, but PVDF is also the more expensive option. Thanks for the comment! -Thad
@@richardcartagena9083 PVDF and SMP are abbreviations based on the type/combination of pigments and resins used to make up the paint system. PVDF = polyvinylidene fluoride SMP = silicone-modified polyester Hope this helps! -Thad
Been to a dozen paint stores, have gotten a dozen totally different answers, on which paint correct for metal roof project. They have estimated between 1-30 gallons needed for 5000 Sq ft 🤓 then this video...
